YoJr, can you say something about the dimensions (height and width) of the different models? Earlier in this thread there were doubts about the dimensions mentioned in a leaked pdf...

Just about a week left now... Yojr.. will blu ray be standard on the m1330?? man that itself is going to hike the prices by almost $500.... or is it optional??
-
-
1400 = 14.1"
1500 = 15.4" -
People! all of the XPS Laptop systems have been taken off the UK home and office site!
-
pogiboi is right... blu-ray will not be in the original rts. and yes, that will jack the price up. I can't believe how expensive they are.
dimensions.... they are a hit and miss on our tech sheets. They are not on there that I can find. -
Sorry if that has already been answered, but is the build quality on the laptops pretty solid, or is it cheaper plastic? I've seen a few of the dell notebooks with a crack near the hinges and I think my biggest overall worry about getting a dell is the build quality.
-
I just checked the UK site and they still have the XPS line up on there...
I also checked for the inspiron desktop... 2 days after RTS and still nothing announced. That makes me worried that the new inspiron notebooks wont be released on time -
RTS? Release-something?
-
-
With the Vostro, Is it identical to the Inspiron models, just with business branding? Or does it actually offer superior build quality, better battery life, lighter and sleeker ect.
-
-
Thats kinda wasteful... why not just get a black 1520. Is there battery life estimates yet YoJr?
-
Funny. The M1330 is still thicker than the MacBookPro, but perhaps this is due to the smaller space to fit all the components on a 13.3" vs 15.4" system.
I think people are being misled about the 8400M GS. According to the specs listed by Nvidia, the GS model appears inferior to the X1400. The ATI X1400 has a 128-bit memory interface and is available in a DDR3 variant (not sure what the E1505 uses), whereas the 8400M GS has only a 64-bit memory interface and may only be DDR2.
On the other hand, from what I have learned from people here on this board, the Quadro NVS 140M found in the Latitude D830 is basically the 8400M GT. It's a shame they won't be offering this in the M1330 or the rest of the Inspiron line. -
Last I checked, the M1210 had the 7400...which was also a 64bit bus chip (I don't know about the memory type though). It is possible there are some heating or PCB space issues that couldn't be dealt with. It performed fairly decently compared to the X1400 too.
-
Some more pics of the Inspiron 1720.
I was all set to buy the D630, but now I'm torn between the Latitude, the upcoming Vostro 1400, and the XPS m1330. m1330 + Blu-ray + HDMI is very very tempting, even though the 13.3" screen is a little small for me. Hmm...
-
All the Inspiron 6400's are gone from the Dell Canada website. The 9400's are still there.
I called sales and they told me that they were being replaced with a new model but they didn't know when. Then I came here and found out about these new models for the first time.
With all the talk in this thread of fancy new graphics card I hope they still offer the notebooks with just the standard integrated graphics. -
Ok, so the interior doesn't look nearly as bad as it did in Engadget's pics. I'm not sure if this is because of the plastic wrap around the notebook though. Nice find, EuroTrash.
About the Vostro models, do they have a ThinkPad-matte finish or a glossy finish that everyone has now?
They will have all three models (1420, 1520, and 1720) available with Intel GMA X3100. -

someone over on another dell topic posted that the 15 inch laptops come with a 8600 GS

According to my training pages, the 1520 will come with the 8600M GS Model, NOT THE GT. Don't know about the benchmarks. I think these test models we have might have the 8600 GS. If I wasn't leaving in about 20 minutes I could download 3D Mark and run it. Also, the unit itself seems a little thicker when closed than the E1505 did, but it is very solid and comfortable.
can someone confirm this? -
All indications at this time point to an integrated/8400 GS/8600 GT set of options for the 1520.
-
hm, just making sure we're not all disappointed because he said he read in his trainee booklet, which is something isn't it?
-
can YoJr confirm this for us please? thanks a lot!
-
Okay....
qwavel - Yes they will offer one intergrated and two discrete video cards so a total of three on the intel models and only one option on the amd models
Vivek - I haven't seen the vostro's in person but from the pics they look to be the same finish as the latitudes
FrozenDarkness - syn0s works in the same center that I do. He just started like a month ago or so (I think). He has seen/played with the exact same systems I have. He also has the same tech sheets I do...
____
Video 1520
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
128 MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GS
256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
1521
ATI Radeon X1270
____
That is a cut and past from the tech sheet
rbg08 - SOrry, no e-sata. It will have the Turbo Memory (FCM - Flash Cache Module). It looks like the system only has two slots for mini-cards. It seems that you can have either a WLAN and FCM or WLAN and WWAN. doesn't look like you can have all three but the documents weren't very clear on it. In one spot is says it sits in the WLAN slot and another shows it in the WWAN slot... and then latter in the document it says that you can have an aircard in the system. I don't have access to the pictures right now so I am going off memory, I will check them if I can or if one of the other dell techs want to chime in on this. -
Are you both in Ottawa?
-
-
Thanks, YoJr, for all the info. That sounds right about the Intel Turbo Memory, I believe the Lenovo T61 has the same options (WLAN & ITM or WLAN & WWAN).
btw, I'm also in Utah. -
i guess he just read it wrong then, no big deal
-
will the vostros have a black interior as well as outer case? and are they expected to cost more then the inspirons?
-
Just jumping in on this thread....
-
I am super excited to find out the prices on these. I recently, well kinda recently, ordered a E1505 on May 14th, I just found out today that the vid card I ordered they don't expect to get back in, the 7300, and they wanted to upgrade me to the X1400. Well as I am sure you all know, that is a better card so that was fine with me, but it's expected ship date is July 16th, so I may very well cancel that order in lieu of a E1520. It all depends on price though. I got a hell of a price for the components thats in mine, and even today can't get that same price. So I will just have to wait and see. If it's within a couple hundred bucks I will order the 1520 instead.

Are the new Santa Rosa Dells really going to replace the current 6400 and 640m?
For the past 2 days, those 2 aren't listed on the dell.ca website. -
hey man .....i cant w8 till the 1520 laptop, i hav same question with liquidx and simnorm........will santa rosa gonna replace 6400 on dell.ca?
and u guyz think the 1520 (with 8400GS graphic) might go to under $900CND when the back to school sale goes on in august? -
That probably depends on how you configure the rest of the system, looking at today's prices, I would think you would be able to if you dumbed down everything else...
-

The vostro's are all black to answer a questions above including keyboard and all (just like the current lattitudes. And yes, the E1705/9400, E1505/6400, and E1405/640m will all be replaced by the current models. Now if they will overlap them I don't know yet but they will be replaced. I am assuming the ywill since they usually overlap the new/old models. (I.E. the 710 and 720 xps.) but don't quote me on it.
As far as the pricing... it really isn't that big of an upgrade to the next models, mostly just slightly faster cpu's, more up to date video, faster RAM, etc... Most of these things I would consider just a tech update since the rest of the world moves on, they need to update as needed. I see this as that update. If it was going to be a jump in price/quality/technology I would have expected more "elite" things to be added. Things that you see on the xps'. So on pricing.... I am almost positive they will keep it comparible to what they are now. since technology gets cheaper, they can give faster/better parts for the same price.
For example, 4 years ago $1500 USD bought be a AMD 2100+, 2GB RAM, ATI 9500 pro, 2x 80GB drives in RAID.... $1500 nowa days with get me a Core 2 Duo @ 2Ghz, 4GB RAM, an nVidia 7900GS, and 2x 500GB drives in RAID. That blows my old computer out of the water!! -
-
hey Yojr...any clue if there is going to be a 15 inch XPS?
-
I don't know if that will be the case in this situation, since I'm really not familiar with the 8400.
I do wonder if the clock speeds on the 8600GT will be any different between the 15" and 17" models.
Nice to hear the new 13" XPS has HDMI (since I assume that works fine with DVI monitors), but I sure with the whole Inspiron line did -
Looks like some accessories are starting to pop up on Dell's site as well.

Any ideas on whether the Inspiron 1720 and others will be released simultaneously in Canada with the US?
-
Should be a worldwide release -
Maybe I missed it somewhere, but will the new 1520/1720s be able to support up to 4gb of ram? It's not hugely important now, but in the future it might be more critical than it can accept 4gb.
-
I'm going to be pulling the trigger on a new laptop here shortly (1505, possibly 1520) currently I can get a solidly built 1505 for ~$1400.(T7200, 2GB 667Mhz ram, etc) My question is twofold: 1) Do you expect the 1505's to be offered concurrently with the 1520's for a bit while they phase them out or will I no longer be able to come by a 1505 from Dell's site after the 1520's release? And 2) From any past experience with new notebook lines should I expect a similarly configured/better 1520 for the same price upon release or am I looking at a "sweet spot" for a deal on the 1505 right now as Dell dumps them for the new models?
-
My biggest question is will Dell be offering coupons, or intro deals on the 1520. That was what gave me the great price on my 1505, was a $500 off coupon.
-
well i just looked at dell.com and the 1505 is missing from the inspiron lineup, but the 1501, and the 1710 are there, to take up space it looks like they put the 12" xps there as well.
