I dont have a decent enough camera to do it justice sorry stanton!
Vista is pissing me off tbh, the hard drive is constantly in use when i'm on the desktop doing nothing! It looks nice, but I think I would rather XP :/ *EDIT* The Vista reinstall took me down to 45 processes from 70!
-
Here are some shots I took... didn't take many (all 'detail' shots) but it will wet your appetite
-
Is it wrong that I just had an orgasm?
-
I believe there is probably a way to turn this feature off - although I'm no expert, having never used Vista before! -
Wow F355, very nice pictures! Very nice indeed. Do you mind me asking what camera you used there?
+Rep -
Thanks for the rep -
Mine has gone back into production (it's already been in production before but then went back to pre-production) and hopefully it'll be built soon...

Also forgot to mention - F355 - thanks for the pics! They were breathtaking! I wish I could take pictures like those!! Very professional!
-
I shall do definitely matey! Got people in the house all day so should be fineWill post my first impression pics tonight
-
Mine shipped today 8 days! cant really complain!
-
Its finally here! My vostro 1500 just came in! I must say im impressed by it, looks nice, sleek and most importantly sturdy. I've been using it for the last 30 mins with no probs, the inital boot was slow but that can be expected. I removed some of the bloatware but still deciding if i should go for a clean install or not. The lappy came with all the manuals, cds, cables etc. I checked the screen carefully and it looks fine, no graininess, smudges or dead pixels. The only minor issue i noticed was the slight light bleed at the bottom of the screen but its not enough to bother me. I managed to take some pics but they are not of the best of quality, sorry in advance! If anyone has any questions or wants me to test or check anything, please do ask.

Definitely do a clean install I say, after doing a reinstall over the top yesterday I still wasnt too happy with losing disk space to the recovery & media direct partitions so I am currently doing a complete format and fresh install.
The brown Dell OS CD is bootable and is normal Vista businessWith all the dell junk installed your likely to have about 70 processes atm, clean install will see you with about 40!
-
U sure the brown cd is vista business? Mines does state its home premium on the cd.
-
Ah well it will be that then, I ordered my vostro with Vista business so mine is that
Still, its a properly bootable OS!
-
Depends whether you ordered the upgrade to Home premium or not. I think he was just stating that the brown cd is the one with the OS on it

After receiving my 1500 this morning my 1700 has just moved to production, yay
-
Yey mine shipped today.
It left EMF LIMERICK at 17.00 today and I live in the UK, is it likely to come tomorrow or the day after? -
i got a new EDD today, it moved from 24/8 to 24/9..
If i look at the dell site and i go to the Vostro 1700 then it says that delivery time is 3 weeks... 3 weeks? i wish! -
Received mine round about 12 o clock today and must say so far I am impressed, no dead pixels no screen bleeding, no wobbly screen. Greatly impressed with my baby!

Someones having a laugh - what is it that's taking so long. Called customer services yesterday, all OK for delivery 28/08/07 - now this. Also NO reply to on-line queries sent 21st & 22nd !!! -
dude!!
we have the same laptop ordered on the dame day and given the same original EDD and have changed to identical delay dates!!
coool
so what action are you gonna take? im writing an email to my dell guy. -
Emailed, tried to call but n/a after 8 minutes! Will try later - not amused as bought this laptop to take on business trip early in September -will see what they have to say about that as I will have hire/buy something else for the trip.
-
Unfortunately have been having nothing but problems with my laptop! Had a problem after all regarding 'screen wobble' when my laptop is closed shut there seems to be a bit of movement, the laptop is not tightly closed. Been contacting Dell yesterday and they were able to sned someone out today to fix it however could only half fix as my laptop needs to be sent off for repair! I explained the situation and have now decided to replace my laptop and I can keep this laptop in the meantime while my 'new' one is being built, what a nightmare! Anyway I got round to sorting some compensation they upgraded my original order of 926 printer (which I have with me right now) to a 966 and also gave me some extra ink cartridges, and said I can keep my current printer aswell! Cant ask for more than that, at least something is being sorted!
-
My 1700 has now been shipped and I have to wait another week for it to be delivered, a bit crap but at least I know I'm gonna get it soon.
For all those with a delay on 1700 I think yours will be build in the next couple of days, because it looks like they have sorted their production problems, whatever it was... -
I contacted them via email and they have asigned me a case manager...person who says the laptop is in production but as a nice bonus he is going to contact me via phone on the 28th to keep me up to date.

My order has had the following status for the past 24 hours:
"Your order is currently with the carrier and a detailed status on your delivery should be available shortly."
Anyone know Dell's definition of "shortly"? -
phone walsh and western and tell them your order and customer number. their geographical number can be found on saynoto0870.com -
Thanks, I phoned Walsh Western and the delivery is scheduled for Tuesday next week with Business Post.
They also gave me the details for tracking on their website. My Dell Customer Number / Order number didn't work on the Wash Western website. I had to change the GB at the beginning of my customer number to 02 for it to work. -
I managed to pick up my laptop from the depot today rather than waiting until Tuesday.
So far so good. No wobbly screen, no dead pixels, no grainy screen. A little bit of light leakage, worse than my previous Dell Laptop but not too bad at all. -
My laptop had been into production for the second time today .....I hope this time it doesnt come back to preproduction again......U never know with Dell......
-
Same here krishna9349.
-
matthew, I doubt if my laptops is in production.....because till morning I could see "Preproduction as of 17th august 2007" but now i can see as "production as of 17th august 2007".....If the production of this laptop started today the message should be "production as of 25th august 2007"......Completely confusing to me.....All these can be cleared only when the status changes to Delivery preparation (which doesnt seem to be very near).......
How about urs.....Whats the date and the message..... -
The date is the 12th, as it was before, which is the date the order was placed.
Dell have said their EMEA is broken and while a lot of people blow this off as a lie or a trick I'm half inclined to believe them.
From my POV, I ordered on the 12th, It apparently went into production ~7ish days later, it went back to pre-production a couple of hours later. I then contacted Dell and they assured me it was in production (via email so it's on record) and they would ring me on Tuesday and after it has shipped to keep me up to date. Now 3/4 days later it has again gone into production (at a strange time of day...) 5 days short of my EDD.
If it turns out it is not being built and it's not sent out on time - I have quite a good case for compensation heh.
Time will tell, we can't do much else. -
Well, First I would like to tell you that the EMEA is working very well....Coz my friend who ordered a Vostro 1500 received on Friday (2days ago) and the status of his order was shown very well all through from preproduction to delivery in the EMEA. You can never believe those Customer service Representatives (CSRs) . They lie in most instances as they don't have any other option. The CSRs in dell dont have any extra information about the production or Delivery of an order. They know the information what we know or we see in the EMEA. i can tell you this coz, Im from India (now I live in England) and the annoying Customer service office is located in my City (Hyderabad, India) in the Silicon Valley or also called as Hitech City. I have a friend who is a manager in the Technical support team and he told me all these. The sales team doesn't have any technical knowledge of the products dell is selling. They are just there to assist customers in ordering and to promote their products with offers. I asked my friend about my order....he told me that no body in the Customer service have access to the Ireland factory and they can only order products and retrieve information about the order if posted by the Ireland factory people.
If something is promised by a CSR about your order and if that happens. You can think u are lucky as that could happen only with luck or if its in the place to happen.
About the compensations the UK.....
I had a strong conversation with my rep and two managers on last Thursday to get me some compensations......they say that nothing is in their hands as the shortage of laptop parts is a global problem. I asked my friend about the compensations...he told me even "if u say u want to cancel the order....u may not get a compensation as the dell right now is welcoming cancellations because of the overwhelming orders which it can not handle well".
If you get any compensation....then u are the most lucky person and pls tell me what u spoke to them as i wasn't successful. -
Dell seems to be playing with my laptop build.....Mine had been to production Yesterday for the second time but had been back to preproduction again today...You never know with dell.....I think there is serious problem building vostro 1400s in ireland factory.....I think they are trying to build the laptops but things seems to be not working at the moment.....
If the EMEA is right, then they might have tried to build the laptop but had been unsuccessful for the second time...... -
I'm back in pre-production as well. If I get a phone call on Tuesday as promised I shall attempt to get this sorted out - but we can only wait as I have said before. Besides that my original EDD has not yet been missed, so until it is I am not going to make a fuss.
-
OH **** RIGHT OFF.
Order Date: 12/08/2007
Pre-Production Tuesday, August 28, 2007?????????
Estimated Delivery Date (on or before this date): 21/09/2007 -
I feel the same way mate, except I have a bog-standard Vostro 1400 with Bluetooth, it supposedly meant to ship from Ireland on the 19th!
And the lady said she'd call back tonight, is that actually viable or is she telling pork pies? :'( -
I am meant to have someone calling me today, if they do not by 6pm I am picking up the phone myself and calling.
Very - Annoyed - Teenager.
I cannot wait that long, literally cannot. I need it for College and mine cannot be moved without it beaking (again, not over exaggerating!)
Matt -
Same here, starting A-level in less than 2 weeks!
-

I'm doing Law/Biology/ICT/Multimedia, especially for the last 2 doing it without a laptop is ridiculous.
