that's what expediting is to them, giving you a better shipping method. Check online and see if your estimated arrival date is the date after the estimated shipping date.

I got my laptop today. I ordered it on 07/12. It was shipped yesterday and I got it around 2pm today. That's the quickest I've ever got any laptop. Only took 3-4 days in total!

I just called and asked about the shipping date and they upped it to next day shipping...I was pretty impressed especially since I wasn't really asking for it directly.

Why is it that some people who order their 1520 get theirs within a week, while others (including me :( ) who ordered the same 1520 configuration earlier are still at the "build" stage more than a week after the order?

I'm getting worried that my order might be stuck, especially since I never received a formal Acknowledgment and Confirmation email. (Had to call in about it, and they sent a summary sheet instead)

Same thing happened to me. I called and said "I didn't get an order confirmation.." and they sent me a "Dell Order Summary"

My card hasn't been charged either, but I guess they do that when it ships. The only thing thats reassuring me that its in production is if they had any flags on your account, they would have never let it out of order processing.

Hmm... That's unusual. Almost everyone here says that there's "in production" then "boxing"... but when I checked online, it says that there isnt even a status named "boxing" it says that "in production" includes everything, including boxing and shipping to carrier. Here is their copied status list:
    (From dell.com)
    "
    Pending
Your order is pending and Order Number(s) have not yet been assigned for specific items within your purchase. Please check back again later.

    In Production
Upon approval of payment for your order, the order will be In Production. Production time includes obtaining the parts, assembly or build time, and shipping preparations/transit to the carrier. Shipping preparations will vary based on type of order and size.

    Shipped
After an order has completed the manufacturing process and shipping preparations it is transitioned to the carrier for delivery. Shipping time will vary based on type of order and size and shipping method chosen.

    Canceled
This status means an order has been canceled. For any questions regarding a cancellation, please click on the Contact Us Page.

    Changed
This status means an order has been changed. Go to the "Order Details" page to learn more about a Changed Order.

    Order Processing
Order Processing includes time to process payment. Approval times vary based on the designated form of payment.
    "
    Whats up with that?
Oh yeah, I live in the US.

You have to call the automated line to get the specific stage of the in production phase.

I think to get more specific stages, you have to call 18004339014. Online isn't as specific.

I ordered my Spring Green 1521 on 7/13 with an estimated ship date of 8/6. When I was ordering my laptop, I used two different addresses. One for billing and my dad's box at the UPS store for Shipping. I triple checked that I put the correct address in the correct spot. My Confirmation e-mail had them flipped. I tried to fix it online, but my default addresses on my account were correct. I guess when I hit the submit button, it switched them for some reason.

I called Customer Service, because I was afraid that with the incorrect name and address, that AMEX wouldn't clear the charge. Dell finally fixed the addresses yesterday, but didn't change the names. I'm wondering if this is holding up my order. I'm still in Build stage.

Also, yesterday I got an e-mail saying that my Customer ID wasn't right. I copied and pasted it. I e-mailed all of this to the Customer Service Rep, but I haven't heard anything yet.

    Anyone else experience anything similar?

I dont think you need to. All you have to do (probably) is call Dell, and act really mad. You can also tell them that you are going to cancel your order if it doesnt come fast... Leave out the "redo order" part though.
That should really speed it up.

I'm with you, I've called and asked if there are any delays. First CSR chat told me all screens delayed 10-14 days, got on again and a CSR chat told me it's the wireless card. I called in and they said there are no delays.

I ordered 7/6 and still in production while others have theirs 3-4 days after ordering.

Won't help, I have a case manager and everything. I have been trying to get a notebook from Dell for 2 months now. Actually 2 months and 3 days officially today. I ordered my 1520 on June 28th and it is still in build stage. Supposedly last I knew it was because of the color I chose that is holding it up.

I just called in about my order (ordered 7/7, still in build stage) - my rep said that none of my parts are on the wait list, but that it's possible my notebook wasnt working in the testing stage, so theyre trying to fix it.
at least he was really friendly about it, and he said he'd look into my order personally and update me via email. I'm wondering if it all depends on which factory is making the order...

OK, so here's the skinny, basically the screen is (supposedly) what's holding it up now. The WXGA one, and it is (supposedly) due to arrive at the facility tomorrow, so with a great deal of luck, I might have my laptop by the weekend.

Maybe all the people that got their laptops within a week configured their laptops with an LCD screen that was readily available. If you got your laptop early, could you tell us what screen resolution and type you ordered?

Ordered hi res screen on 1420 on 7-10. Ship date is 8-14. Online chat guy tells me hi res screen on backorder. The automated status number tells me its in build stage. Call up CSR and they tell me its in production. Online chat tells me in production.. but automated number says build stage. The CSR I called gave me overnight shipping on my order.. I did not even ask for it.. so that was nice. But I am very disappointed that Dell can't get me consistent status on my 1420. LCD cannot be on backorder and not at the same time.. or can it? Can it be in build stage and production at the same time? You would think Dell could set up some kind of computer system to eliminate the confusion. I am just hoping now that its in the build stage and gets shipped before months end. Somehow I think this mess is part of outsourcing more and more off shore. Heck, even Intel is leaving.. they just announced 1500 layoff in their biggest fab here in Albuquerque. I guess we can't expect much in customer service if everything is price driven.

freakin finally... I called the status line for my 2 inspirons and strangely enough the one with more parts is in the BOXING stage. How long does this stage take from past experience? The standard laptop 1520 is still in production BUILD stage.. how stupid... oh well.. maybe I will get one before the weekend... SXO792 ps... ordered on July 5 and July 3rd respectively.

I spoke to a rep earlier today about it, and he said he would "personally" look into my status...I wonder if this is because of that.

Glossy my friend. I felt the higher contrast ratio that is supposed to be toted with this was worth it. Plus I like the look of the glossy. I do plan to get a screen protector off ebay though. I have seen some of the glossy screens on fellow students laptops and I don't know how they let them get that tore up, they were scratched and... it was nasty. I always take incredible care of my laptops. I had one for over a year and when I sold it, it looked identical to the day I bought it. And that was with taking it to school and back regularly.
