The one thing that everyone has to remember with their laptop screens is this... MVD or Minimum Viewing Distance. Even the most expensive LCD screen looks grainy if you get to close to it. If you are at the minimum viewing distance I bet the laptop doesn't look as grainy.

Also.. how long does it take to box a freakin laptop. It has been in the boxing stage now for over 12 hours... yep.. I am whining...

Mine's in the boxing stage too. It apparently can take up to 5 days, as boxing includes sending it from the factory to a location near your address, in addition to actual putting it into the box.

I ordered my 1520 the 13th with the WXGA+ and it says it will ship out the 9th of August. Just wondering-any idea if this likely to take so long or will it come much sooner?

I definitely agree with waiting vs have problems. I will be even more mad when my lappy is delayed (like it is now) and I still have problems with it.

Doubt most will be getting the laptops early, especially if you ordered through EPP.

    Just my .02

They seem to be pushing mine right up to the delivery date estimates... 1 is STILL in the boxing stage. I noticed lots of folks got the 1420s early. That is pretty cool. I guess I should have ordered a 1420. Then I could be posting this from it.

I ordered through the standard dell site, so I don't think that honestly makes much difference. I think it just happens to be whatever they happen to have in at the time.
ive been thinking of cancelling in lieu of a 1420 myself.

Well, if you are not a gamer, then go ahead, but if you are, then remember that the 8600M GT is NOT an option in the 1420... I chose the 1520 mainly because of it.

That was part of the reason I chose it too, but seriously, I am getting this mainly for schooling and some light gaming. As long as whatever I get can run UT3 at like mid settings? , I don't care if it is a Geforce 4...lol

I ordered mine 7/11, says the prelim ship date is 7/25. I want it to get here sooner than that.

I just tried to build 2 different laptops.. a 1420 and 1520 just to see what would set the date back. 1420 says ship 7/30 until you choose clossy screen. Then it shoots back to 8/08 and if you choose a better display, then it changes to 8/18. The 1520 ships in 8/1... No delay on the glossy screen on this one. So with that in mind, it sounds like the 1420 glossy is running out of stock... I have 2 laptops that are supposed to ship tomorrow... that better happen. SXO792

Dell offered to expedite my order (without me even asking), telling me it just puts your build at "high priority" compared to the hundreds of other orders awaiting to be assembled.

Hasn't changed my ETA any bit. Ordered on the night of Friday the 13th (equivalent of the Saturday the 14th I guess), and est. ship date of 8/1/07.

    :(

There is a delay on the 1280 x800 glossy screen. I am awaiting my repalcement laptop because my 1520 came in dead on arrival. I was told that its the 1280 x 800 glossy screen that is holding the order up.

Man I feel for you... It is like they try to think of anything to hold up the order lately... I would think they would push out the stops to replace a broken one.

DELL ASSOCIATE - "I AM VERY SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE, WE ARE OUT OF 'ENTER' KEYS AT THIS TIME AND IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL EXTRA WEEKS TO GET THEM IN STOCK"...

"11:27:38 PM Sup Bini Kumaran Currently, expected lead time is atleast a month. But, dell as a mail order company, we cannot guarantee you the exact shipment date. This totally depends on the product availability.
11:28:07 PM Sup Bini Kumaran Its been backordered with all our manufacturers and there is no specific expectation given currently.
11:28:12 PM Thomas Romano so you are telling me it will be a month before any more orders are processed?
    "

the customer service manager told me it will BE atleast a month till DELL gets more screens in. So that means atleast a month till i get a working laptop.

I am very upset right now.

I think this may have to do with where you live.. the zip code.
Because I ordered mine on 7/12 and I called today to check status, and it is in build stage/mode.. so most likely I will receive my notebook next week sometimes.
My zip code at the moment is 73132 because I haven't left for college yet ~~
If you received your inspiron early, tell us where which zip code and mabye that will help some people :D :D
(if you think about it... dell is not going to ship extra led to another warehouse and waste that shipping $$ for other people, the best is they will wait and give out extras) IMO
That is my 2 cent for the night~!

Does dell even have regional warehouses? Or are they all coming from CN (China)?

    I'm in Vegas btw. :)

I called up DELL and they told me *NOBODY* can tell me what part specifically may be holding the order up. How did you guys find out? Especially color, etc.?

What i would honestly like to know... What system or equation is used to figure out who's order gets filled and who gets pushed to a later date? Maybe location does have something to do with it. If any Dell Reps post here it would be nice to know.
