Yes, you have to be REAL NASTY though .Ask for the customer service manager. I was able to get a $100 credit but they refused to give me my money back and for me to send the non working one back in.

So instead they gave me a $100 credit. So I am still waiting for the replacement but I am $100 richer lol

That doesnt mean anything. The build stage is usually where the laptop gets delayed.

I don't think so, because I talked to a rep on the phone and she told me nothing was in delay, and she would follow up with an email. But who knows, we can only WAIT :p

lol trust me I have been on the phone with maybe 7 different reps. The lazy reps will tell you everything is fine.

They have to check deeper into the system. The normal program that the reps use will basically just say the stage its in. You have to tell them to dig deeper. They will then use another program that will check the specifics of the build stage.

I had to get the customer service manager to get the specifics for me. He supposedly talked to the backend people who told him it would take a month to get the new shipment of lcd screens in.

My replacement has been in the build stage for 10 days and the status still says in production even though the ship date has past. So I would call again and ask if they can check up on the build status.

Manok, where for art thou? I just called and laptop 1 of 2 is now SHIPPED!!!!!!!! whoooooooohoooooooo. Bout Freakin Time. And it better work too. Now for some odd reason. The plain jane 1520 with nothing extra
except pink color (for my wife) and premium for some strange reason is STILL IN BUILD STAGE. This one was ordered BEFORE the one that is shipping. Again this stuff doesnt make any sense. I called customer service, and spoke with a young lady who was awesome. I could fully understand her, and she credited 50 bucks back to my account and said they were running low on GLOSSY SCREENS NOW. 14.1 and 15.4. When she mentioned the credit before I even started griping I knew it was not going to be good. oh well.. my wife is going to be mad that I got mine, before she got hers...

    SXO792
1520, pink, intel 1.5, premium - STILL IN BUILD STAGE. Ordered July 3rd
1520, black, intel 2.0, premium, 8600gt, SHIPPED. Ordered July 5th

Well, if you really think about it, it makes sense. Since Dell wasnt expecting so many buys, they are backordered on parts. Also, more people buy just the base system from stores or websites that dont offer customization, therefore most people get the base system, and since there was such high demand on it, the standard parts are even more backordered than the other, customizable parts, and finally, there is a longer wait. :GEEK:

Ok, but doesnt it take a core system to make a modified dell? If so, why not just fill in the orders in the order they were received. FIFO first in first out...

well, not really... the only things all of the laptops probably have in common is the motherboard and case... no, nevermind, the case is different too, because of the color change option, and the optional webcam.
So all the laptops probably have the same, standard motherboard, and lower part of the case, and maybe connector cables.
    Everything else can be changed

I am in the home state of Dell. Less than 3 hours away. So being a local isn't helping squat.

That depends... Are you 3 hours away from the place they build them, (where DO they build them?) or are you 3 hours away from the main dell offices? Theres a big difference.
Not that it would change anything... The only thing that could change it is living right next to the UPS, Fed-Ex or whatever other carrier's destribution place. Then youd get it faster. By about 2 hours.

At least I will have something to play with while in line for the new Harry Potter book. SXO792

I ordered my 1720 on 7/8 and it came out to a 7/20 delivery date. Up to today it's been in the build stage and I was getting a little concerned as to whether or not it would be able to get to me by the 20th, so I called them to inquire. (I'm in the Army and won't be around after the 20th and I'm having it shipped to my unit's address because it wouldn't let me enter my home address.)

So, I talk to the rep and tell her my situation and I was just wondering if it was going to be delivered by the 20th, if not, I was going to have to make some arrangements to actually gain control of it once it actually is delivered. She puts me on hold for 2 minutes and says that she has put and expedite flag on my order to help me out. I thank her and hang up.

Two hours later I recieve a call from Dell saying that my delivery date has been changed to 7/27 due to my product being back-ordered.

Thank you very very much, Dell. Used to love 'em now I pretty much hate everything about 'em.

Actually, there is an opportunity there. But you have to be able to act really, really p***ed. You call them once more, tell them what happened, and ask why that is.
    {Woohoo for you!, you probably get: A)Free next day shipping or B)Money compensation or C)Some other nice goodies :D}
They'll probably say that they will expedite your order, but that is crap.
Oh yeah, demand to talk to the manager, he has the AUTHORITY to do something.
Also, a little threatening to cancel never hurt a customer...On the contrary, it helps :p

I ordered my 1721 on the 7th and dell called and said something about it either shipping on the 24th or being here on the 24th. Good news is, 24th is a day before my "weekend" (i get 2 days off, wed/thurs) So whether it gets here the 24th or the start of my weekend on the 25th, I have 2 days of fun time to mess around with it.

ok... from me to you all. PLEASE IGNORE ALL THE WHINING on the forums.
I am on my 1520 right now. It is freakin phenominal. No buzz on the headphones, speakers sound great, screen is awesome, speed is good. I haven't had time to install many games. I think the is just awesome. So far I am far beyond impressed. Unless you get this laptop and something is seriously not working then I think everyone is just hating.

Tested with Sure E2C headphones. Several Cd's, several mp3s. I am so impressed. Now I get to upgrade the memory that I purchased this week to 2
    gig.

I hope all those waiting get theirs soon. Now I see why the list is long to get
these damn things. Now I only have to wait for one more laptop, my wifes.

    Best Wishes,

Ooooh! did you get the dvd burner? Somewhere I heard that it has burning problems and the files are unopenable in other pcs. I am almost sure that that was just one messed up burner, but I am not sure. I hope what you say is true!!

I want mine to arrive too.

Ordered on 7/7 (although it says 7/8)

Estimated shipping date is 7/25 - but some people report having it shipped early... so Im addicted to checking the status. Ugh.

Im having it shipped to a third party in Montana before having it shipped here though, to save $150+ in tax. That will probably add another 3-4 days...

Ok, I just got done upgrading my memory to 2 gig, notebook 5300 667mhz.
It pays to be a Certified Dell Tech. However, I DONT WORK FOR DELL...
It takes about 20 minutes to change the memory. (I also had to put my kid to sleep so that took a few minutes). The reason folks have problems with the burning software is as follows... When you utilize the operating system to burn discs, it does not CLOSE THE SESSION. This causes bookoo problems on other systems. My advice is to continue utilized NERO or something other than the included software to burn media. The burner is just fine.

A word to the wise when changing the memory... Once you remove the keyboard, make sure don't try to jerk it out. Carefully pull the keyboard until the tabs release on the right and left side. Their is a very thin, small cable that is connected with a blue tab. Carefully pull the blue tab up, and then remove the thin cable that connects the keyboard. Others have documented the procedure. I just want to make sure everyone is careful. AND IGNORE THE WHINERS...(unless your laptop is really broken)... Then feel free to complain... I know I would.

    Best Wishes,

    SXO792

DELL 1520> That is true, however there is also another bank underneath the keyboard. They come stock with 1 gig, 2 512 dimms. That way it utilizes the dual channel function. So I changed each dimm and replaced them with a 1 gig, kingston, 667 mhz, for a total of 2 gigs.

    Take Care,

Yes, I have been using the 1520 for a while. I love it so far. No whining, no complaints, just smooth sailing and looks great. Ignore the haters.

I completely agree with one exception. Sure there is minimal graininess, but that is not a problem. The only problem is the headphone jack, it does have some problems, although i have not actually tried to listen to anything with my headphones, without any other sound it is very noticeable.

Day 2 on the new 1520. I am listening to new Harry Potter Book, while ripping the discs to mp3, while surfing. I love this notebook. I hope everyone enjoys theirs when they get it. I am going to install SWAT4 later tonight. (one of my faves) and see how it plays on here.

    Best Wishes to all,
