If people have received the upgrade disks, could they please tell us if the disk has both the 32 and 64 bit (like the Microsoft upgrade ones).
i.e. can you do a CLEAN INSTALL of a 64bit version on a 32 bit system with these disks (As you can with the Microsoft upgrade ones)?
Cheers

When did you guys order your upgrade?
-
I just went to my account and im now getting an eta of 11/25 ? There must really be a queue or something...Good thing I read these FORUMS and found out I had to actually order it when in fact I registered for it (which included shipping info) months ago. No email, no instruction of telling me I had to order it..Thanks alot Dell/MS!!! -_-;;
webweezy, squib when did you "order" yours? Also is the Win7 DVD an upgrade only? can you do a clean, full install? Also whats the Dell Upgrade Asst and anyone know why do you need to insert it first? Wondering if its just BS dell OEM crap or if its essential for the Win7 to install. -
Just checked and my order status has been updated with a shipping date of "12/09/2009" !
-
Mine's still showing blank and no estimated shipping date. Have emailed them about none times and they just give be generic responses like please see the FAQ or please check your order status online. Bah!
-
I ordered mine on the 21st and still have yet to see any estimated shipping date. I wonder how they are arranging who gets their upgrades when.
-
IT's SHIPPED !
-
From seeing an estimated ship date, how long is delivery usually taking for people in the UK?
-
The order status says: Shipping date - Dec 5th.
I reckon it's not that much different for UK customers -
I ordered the upgrade on 21st midnight. Yes, win7 DVD is an upgrade DVD only. Not sure if we can do a full install or not.
Dell Upgrade Assistant needs to be inserted first as it takes care of all the drivers update and other necessary requirements to prepare installation of win7 over Vista. -
Is anyone able to track there package? My order says shipped and displays a tracking number but for the past two days clicking on the tracking number gives me an error page. I tried entering the tracking number directly into UPS.com but it isnt showing up
-
For $29.00 I got the Win 7 Pro compete version, downloaded it and have it installed for a week. I'm not waiting till December, I'll give my copy to someone. No brainer.
-
I dont even see estimate .. and i hate the blank status and everything blank except order date and order number .. this sucks ..
Ordered on 22 october.
Why are they randomly shipping ? -
I ordered mine on the 21st also and still no status...
-
-
Canada:
order date: 23 October
est. ship date: 11 Nov.
Kind of bs really since I actually registered for the W7 upgrade back in August. Then I still had to place the official order once W7 released on Oct. 22. Yeesh! -
I think they are randomly shipping .. i am surprised how people are reporting shipping. But nobody has hands on the update disks as yet
-
-
My Estimated Ship Date has just changed from 15/11/2009 to 30/10/2009
It seems they are doing this very randomly!!
Do we have to do an Upgrade or is the option to Custom install also available? -
Jid when did you order the upgrade ?
-
Mine's shipped, but tracking number is not working yet !
-
-
-
Ordered on 10/22 and today it updated to Estimated Shipping date 11/2. We shall see.
-
My estimated shipping date changed from 10/27/2009 to 10/29/2009. Hopefully, I'll get some confirmation that it shipped tomorrow.
-
Update: my shipment status changed from november 25th to oct 30th. I'm happy but ?
This seems very, very random. No rhyme or reason.. -
OK
I even got it - was a pleasant surprise to see it in the maibox. (It comes to your USPS mailbox). - Return address from Ontario - CA 91761
My status
- Ordered update on October 22
- Everything is blank for me ... no status, no estimated shipping .. only thing that is visible is my tag and order number.
I got it delivered too ... i have the disks in my hand. !!!!
Anyways thanks Dell, atleast it was delivered fast, just that the status system is screwed up big time. -
Can anyone take a pic of the disc, and also can this be installed on another PC besides a dell?Cause my bro said I can keep his if so.
-

Here is how my shipping looks like .. now that i got my disks .. i am using the tracking number from the shipment, i never knew about the tracking number before
Looks like everyone will start getting it soon .. remember it is most likely shipped from California, so it might take 5-7 days for reaching east cost. CA guys should get it today or tomorrow.
-
-
Well, mine changed from 11/2 to 10/29. I guess it is pretty random, we'll see if it ships tomorrow.
-
Has anyone from the UK managed to see the website with tracking info yet? Or better yet have it delivered? Are UK ones coming from California too?
Edit : As if by magic, mine arrived this morning my UPS! Seems to have been shipped from California on he 26th. Website shows nothing other than my service tag and order date so it looks like there is still hope! 3 days from the States isn't bad!
Impressed with how quickly it got to me. Not impressed with Dell's customer service. Emails like the folowing do not endear me to them.
-
It updated again with an ETA now on the 31st and lists a tracking # and status: shipped. Tracking # doesn't work. Sigh.

Hi there,
I ordered my upgrade disks on the 21st, immediatly they were shipped before the 22nd strange, They left the us on the 26th, arrived in the uk the 27th and are out for delivery today (29th)
Now it's just a wait for ups...
Btw the tracking number only works on the ups website when they recieve your disks from Dell so the link will fail. Hope this helps

My Estimated Shipping has now changed to the 31/10/2009 !!
They don't seem to be able to make their minds up??? -
UK order on 22nd, no sign of an update on the Dell page, but my disk arrived by UPS from Dell Ontario, CA today!!!
Standard Dell disk packaging, with a Microsoft licence sticker in the pack. There is a separate Dell 'upgrade assistant and drivers' disk. Haven't used this so far, instead I'm running setup on the Win 7 disk from my torrented Win 7 installation and 'upgrading' over that. -
I wish they would hurry on up with mine
-

The desktop is almost unchanged apart from a 'Windows compatibility report' and it's put back IE shortcuts. I also think it changed the saturation on the AtI Catalyst centre, the compatibility report says that isn't compatible, but it's working OK. The Dell is an SXPS 16, and I'm using the beta 9.9 Ati CC which may explain this.
PS I have never run this machine with Vista, I took out the original Dell disk on receipt without powering the machine on, and put my own disk with a 250 GB XP partition and an empty 250GB for the Win 7 torrent installation. -
ANother thing .. if you are not planning to upgrade (depending on how long you had your vista) you can first start with the 7 OS disk and boot from there and install, and then once 7 is installed, then put the upgrade (dell) disk and let that work through and keep installing whatever drivers it is installing.
I upgraded (thats by booting into vista and then putting upgrade disk and following instructions .. that was also speficied in the booklet they gave .) , and it was a total mess.
1. It of course creates windows.old where it stores old windows (vista) files. - 25 GB size.
2. Somehow even after i deleted windows.old, i see 60GB being used .. even tough i check the files i see only 20GB being used including hidden and system files .. i dont know where the remaining 40GB is being used !!! its like something hidden and inaccessible.
3. I then went and did a clean install and i see only ~15GB of the hard disk being used ...
So my recommendation for the sake of disk space .. do a clean install unless your windows vista had lot of softwares and customizations you dont want to lose. .. i was ok since i got my lappy about 1-2 months ago and i was using it as though its not my computer .. since i knew about the upcoming upgrade and somehow i was feeling unsettled .... -
Did it activate the clean install without any issues? -
EDIT: Just checked and my shipping date says "11/03/2009" -
In the MS instructions it indicated that you could boot to Vista, and the choose "Custom Installation" for a clean install. Is this the same as booting to the upgrade disk? Or is booting to the disk a cleaner version of a clean install. Thanks.
-
So there's one Disc for the Win7, and one disc for the drivers?
If you boot to the Win7 disc (instead of from Vista), then is this similar to installing a 'full version' clean, and can I still maintain my recovery drive? Thanks.
