Yes, standard MS sticker.

Just got my shipping confirmation email today. When I went in to check my status, it actually shipped on Monday, and is almost here.
I'm still wondering 2 things:
1. Does running the Dell Upgrade Assistant after a clean install do anything? (e.g. help find missing drivers)?
2. Is booting to Vista and selecting "Custom Install" any different than simply booting to the install disk? In my case, I have no partitions or anything to deal with. -
-
Could anyone confirm if they've successfully Custom Installed Win 7 with the CD and the Key has been accepted?

I can confirm that you can do a clean install by just booting from the Dell Win7 operating system disc. No need to even put the Dell upgrade assistance/ driver disc in your computer. Once you finish your clean install they will ask you to enter your product key which is found on the microsoft cd sleeve. Only thing is you will have to manually update all the dell drivers. Make sure you have Dell Quickset saved or access to the internet because without this driver it will be difficult to eject discs on the studioXPS16.

Mine still has no status....

I ordered on October 21. -
-
Got mine today.

Well, mine went from estimated ship date of 11/2 to 10/28. Now I have a tracking and it shows that it was shipped on 10/26 and will be receiving it tomorrow. Nice.

Ok, I have it all up and running. To answer a few people's questions.
You can do a custom (clean install) without any dramas. The disc supplied says upgrade but it seems to be a full version. I backed up my documents then rebooted. Boot from the Upgrade DVD (forget the Upgrade Assistant at this stage) and when you get to the stage where you pick where you want to install, pick advanced or whatever it is, where you can delete, create or format partitions to install on.
During install, the only things I had to do was enter the product key off the packet with the disc in it (which incidentally seems to be the same as the OEM Dell one that was leaked months ago) and my wireless key.
Once it was up and running, I used the upgrade assistant which installed a few more drivers for me.
All I had to do after that was download and install a few things off the Dell website that I couldn't find on the assistant disc, namely Dell 5530 HSPA Mini Card Drivers, Ricoh Card Reader chipset driver and the Intel Chipset Driver. You then need to install Quickset from the Dell Upgrade Assistant Disc plus whatever else you can find that applies to your machine.
It'd have been nice if the upgrade assistant could install the right things (such as Quickset and the trakpad driver) for me rather than me looking through quite a convoluted file system for them, but at least they're there. -

Ah wait, my mistake. My key is just similar to leaked ones so when I typed it in I thought, "I've seen this key before". Guess not!
Sorry! -

Just got a confirmation email that it has shipped. For the curious, here's a pic of the Order Status page.

And yes, I don't like to blur, so the values in the above pic are edited/changed.

Quick Question for the ones who received the upgrade kit (preferably UK)
Did you have to sign for the delivery or was it just left in the letterbox? -
I had to sign for it from the UPS man.
-
My ship date has changed from Nov. 11 to today (Canada)!
-
Got my disks on hand =) Supposed to get it yesterday but I came home late and the rental office is closed. Awh Win 7 Win 7 =)
-
My shipping date was On the 29th of October. Today is the 30th and I still have no status or email letting me know my upgrade has shipped. Maybe it will come today?
-
For my case, it takes about a week to reach. I mean from the date I ordered, 22th Oct. To get it on 29th.
-
I live in Washington. Why no status update or email letting me know mine has shipped? The shipping date was yesterday.
-
-
Same here. I ordered mine on the 22nd, it was shipped on the 26th (according to the envelope it came in) and arrived on the 29th in the UK. My status on the win7.dell.com site is still blank as is the estimated shipping date. I'd say it's safe to pretty much ignore whatever that site says given that some have had their disks through without any change on it and some have had no discs after the day the website says they have shipped.
-
Oh ok thanks for the info folks. Maybe I will get lucky and get it today. If not than tomorrow.
-
Yea. I only got my shipping email after I got my disk. Funny ? No worries, from the date it says shipped, you just have to wait for 2 more days.

I received mine today!! It never updated on th website and no confirmation email but it arrived today!! Now just to wait for windows 7 ultimate for my replacement computer....

To those of you who have already done a clean install of windows 7, is it necessary to use the secondary disc that dell sent you or is windows 7 able to handle all the drivers fine and/or are you able to obtain them online on your own without the use of the disc?
-
There are 2 discs given. First is the Upgrade Assistant which basically removes all the incompatible programs and the second is the Win 7 disk.
-
Can anyone answer this question for me? I got the 32 bit version of windows 7 from Dell and I was wondering if I could use the licence that comes with it to install the 64 bit version.
-
so u dont need the 2nd disc for drivers and that kind of thing?
-
For those who have used the disc to do a clean install, you all complain about having to search for drivers and how the upgrade assistant doesnt have all of them or the right ones...Think about it for a second..Prior to your clean install you had all the correct drivers. The disc shipped is meant to be an in place upgrade (although of course you can do a clean install) which means it will add things to your system, not take away. The Dell ugrade assistant only includes drivers that you should need when UPGRADING, not a clean install. Many of the drivers that work for vista work for win7 so they are not included on the disc as you SHOULD already have them on your machine. Doing a clean install is the reason why you are having to look for drivers
PS: Got my upgrade in the mail today. The mailman forgot to scan it or something so about an hour later I got a knock on my door asking for it back. I'm like ? He scans it then hands it back to me and then scurried away...THey're tracking these pretty tight I guess? -
Got mine today, will play with the install when I get the chance. Nice job Dell.
-
Still havent got mine and my ship date was apparently the 29th
-
Ship date is today for me apparently....
Nice to see that you can Clean Install (which I will be doing).
Just will have to download some drivers in advance...Notably QuickSet and Chipset drivers... -
For those who have got the DVD, can you tell if the COA is a sticker or not. If yes, are you able to stick it below the battery besides Vista COA?
-
doest look like a sticker, well it surely was a sticker but it has already been stuck .. on the paper cover. I also tried removing it .. did not come out well, so i might have to keep the sleeve safely somewhere
... of course it will be with the 7 disk.

Does anyone know if Dell would ship to a country not listed in the shipping form? I'm eligible since I got my 1640 just a few weeks ago from a retailer in the UK; but unfortunately they don't list the Maldives.
