Well, I 've just been bumped to 18th November as well. I can only assume that Dell are having massive supply problems and are putting the UK/Europe to the back of the queue.
I'm just going to forget about it from here on out and hope it arrives at some point. I'll just be very cynical in the future when Dell promise a "free" upgrade![]()
-
got my shipping confirmation today USPS, but info seems down right now.
-
I could not be arsed to wait till the 18th November. Frankly, I doubt it will ship on that date anyway.
I got my sisters .ac.uk email and ordered Windows 7 Pro x64 online for £30. I already have it downloaded, unpacked the .box files and created an ISO image...
Tonight Ill burn it on DVD and then try and install it. -
It is unbeliveable, but now I have my W7's in my hands. Considering yesterday I received confirmation about expedition and tracking number, I was shocked parcel is already in my city
and today early morning they delivered. I'll try upgrade different ways and post way how's working.
According to COA:
It IS a sticker. Kind of double sticker in fact. First I thought it is attached on the paper cover, but it is not. It is on double-sided sticker tape, so first layer is attached on envelope indeed, and you can carefully peel off the primary sticker and attach it on your comp.

My kit just Shipped!!! Shipped with UPS. I got a tracking number and also the update site is updated with new info. I'm happy now
-
I'm wondering if it is because I'm a dekstop owner that I've been shoved to the back of the queue? I mean laptops seem their biggest concern these days.
-
I don't think that could possibly be a reason. Till now as per comments, its all random.
-
I have W7 Ultimate on one of my 1520's (got the full version), and I'm hoping my new 11z will arrive with it already installed. It's pretty nice, but there are still some annoyances I'm trying to figure out how to disable.
Rob -
Well, I went over and whined on Dell's own forums and within a couple of hours my status had changed to Shipped with a UPS tracking number that works. It might just be a coincidence - but I strongly recommend anyone who has posted here to go and post there, too.
-
I did the same, sent them an email saying all the fields were blank, and sure enough the next day it had changed to "Shipped" 31/10/09. Theyve given me a tracking number, but the shipper just says "DMG4" - soo i have no way of actually tracking it!
thoughts? -
Well, it's now showing that it's been shipped and according to UPS, it's going to be delivered on the 10th Nov (I'm in the UK btw).
We'll see

Hello Kavitar, I guess you're from India. If yes, keep an eye here.
http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/19301995.aspx -
My tag seems to be directly stuck to the disc envelope, rather than on top of a double sticker =(
-
I received my sxps 16 on 10/30/09 (see sig). My service tag was finally recognized today. I placed the order for my upgrade (Windows 7 Ultimate) at about 3:00 p.m. today I received the shipment confirmation email at about 6:00 p.m. with a tracking # so maybe they are speeding up!!
By the way for the poster quite a few pages back that asked if getting a warranty replacement for a computer that was purchased before the upgrade program started. Yes it does I purchased mine in march and my replacement was eligible. Just make sure your replacement is NEW not a refurb and your good. -
I checked twice and mine is double sticker, as my friend as well. 100% sure double sticker.
Firstly this sticker seems to be permanently attached on paper, but after careful bending of the envelope corner, I can lift a COA sticker and take it out. It is important to catch all those pre-cut edge pieces). First layer is smooth paper as like normal sticker base (it has green-bluish shade), but attached hardly to envelope. It is very thin and totally invisible looking at the edge of COA sticker, so I suppose you could miss it.
Or, option two - someone attached it wrong way at the factory (rather impossible, sticker seems to be attached on the automatic line).
Try carefully from the paper corner, not from the foil.

So is anyone noticing something strange with regards to the tracking information provided by UPS/USPS? I see at Dell's site that my order has shipped but nothing indicating an estimated delivery date. if I paste the tracking number into UPS/USPS's website, they say electronic shipping info has ben provided, but nothing more on delivery date or if it actually left the shipping facility. I live in AZ and they are shipping the package from Rancho Cucamonga, CA which is about 6 hourse from me. Hell, i could get in my care and drive there pick it up and come home in one day. This info i got stated it was done on the 3rd, it's the 5th. Frick'n Postal Service must be shipping by horse these days. i know I sound impatient but I had a "blue Screen" day recently and I had been on the fence about how much to restore on my laptop and if i should wait to do anything else because of the shipping of the upgrade kit and how I'd have to restore everything all over again....it is frustrating when you don't have all the facts.

The version of windows 7 I registered for was 32bit. I haven't received it yet but asked dell that I wanted a 64bit version of the OS through technical support. They sent me the 64bit windows 7 and told me that it will not be an upgrade disk and that I will have to reinstall the whole operating system, works for me.
The best thing is that I have received the disk via fedex (next business day) whereas the upgrade site will send them via ups which will take another month or so, yet to receive those.
For those who haven't received can try using technical support and you can tell them that you have got the disks and you would like to install the 64bit version.
Hope that helps for some of you guys out there.
Also I would recommend asking for the drivers disc as well. -
My experience has been that even refurb replacements are eligible. And usually no wait is necessary to register the upgrade; they are recognized by the website immediately.
-
Hmmm, I sent them an email last night and suddenly today my status changed to shipped (prior estimated ship date was 11/15/2009).
Still have one order left with an estimated ship date of 11/23/2009. I'll send them an email about that to see if that's expedited, as well. -
I ordered my upgrade disc on the Oct. 24th. I received the order this past Saturday (Oct. 31). I just checked the Dell W7 site... it doesn't even show that it shipped yet, after I received it 6 days ago.
-
ah you're right! I took out the disc and looked to see what's the surface facing the clear portion, and it's the blue double-sticker! haha, thanks for the pic!
-
So,are these disc being shipped UPS or USPS?Cause I'm seeing allot say the UPS guy was the one dropping the disc off,but I was told mine was sent through ups/usps (first it goes through UPS and then it is shipped through usps...) very confusing, anyway my package was shipped Tuesday, and noone from UPS or USPS can tell me a date...not even an estimate
-
Mine was through USPS.
-
Thats cool no experience with refurb replacements here.
By the way they updated my status on the website. The tracking # they sent saying it was for the new system has been changed to the one I have already received...
My Windows 7 Ultimate says ESD 11/29/2009.... Maybe they are slowing down...lol
-
C'mon, fella, I'm sure we're all happy you got them to ship it faster and [a little unbelievable...but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt] managed to wangle a 64bit copy when they've made a HUGE song and dance about the upgrade being like-for-like only, but the comment about UPS taking a "month" isn't helping anyone at all. Unfortunately, the other 99.9999% of us have to rely on UPS....and no, it is not taking anyway near a month. Several UK customers I've chatted with on various threads have received theirs 3-5 DAYS after their shipping status was put up - and that is coming across the pond. So while I'm sure you're very happy, and we're all happy for you, please try not to add to our misery with scaremongering comments like "you'll have to wait another month". A: because it makes us feel like crap when we already do, and B: it simply isn't true. Thanks!
-
Wow the sticker is such a piece of technology.
-
It is sent by UPS from Dell in California then got transferred to USPS and to me.
-
Very cool !! My Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade is the same way!!
Thanks!!
Repped!! -
hi,
just wanted to ask if this call you made to Dell Tech support actually worked things out fer ya...cz I'm expecting my packages (2 x windows 7 home premium 32-bit English) to be delivered although I dunno the dates..and I don wanna screw things up..wat if I call up the dell tech support and the packages I'm expecting are cancelled..cz they'd think that I've already got 'em.... -
I used online chat and yes it worked great. No I don't think they will cancel but you don't have to mention that you have received the dvds. Just tell them that the dvds you ordered are 32bit and now you want to upgrade to 64bit and I guess they will send you the dvds.
The rep connected me to the supervisor who then ordered the dvds. I have an xps 1340 with vista ultimate and I got win7 ultimate. Also I now have the usps tracking number for my win7 that was to be sent by dell last month, so don't think they would cancel and I can only say that it works for xps support.
Will not recommend calling them, use technical support chat.
The guy first told me that he can only send me vista disks. Tell him that you have upgraded to win7 32bit and you would wana convert to 64bit and that dell is obliged by law to provide you with a 64bit version of the operating system. -
Well as an update and perhaps to shed some light on your situtation, I was in the middle of backing up all of my personal data on my lappy in preparation for the upgrade coming, which according to the status through UPS/USPS, there was no eta. Funny though, my intuition kicked in and I decided to get the mail since the status I saw last evening showed it as USPS destination received tracking information.
I went to my mail box and there it was, big as life. When i returned to the house and looked online again, the dates shown were about a day and a half behind, so keep that in mind as well. Overall, the UPS/USPS joint venture for tracking sucks. UPS by itself works wonderfully and their tracking is much better but combined with the Pony Express affectionately known as the US Postal Service, it's no wonder no one uses the mail anymore. lol
Anywho, I received two discs which were both Dell branded, one being the OS and the other being a driver and utility disc. I was already running the RC version on my laptop and when I upgraded last evening, it took all of a half an hour and that's with doing the custom install. I still have yet to get the rest of my drivers in order, getting Win7 updates and reinstalling software (have to get up at 4 am for work), so after work today, I will spend some very careful and meticulous time sorting everything out so this machine runs as efficient as possible.
-
I finally got it yayy..
-
Christ mu upgrade is taking forever to get here. It's been in my state for 2 days now and in my city since 8:30 this morning. Mail just came and it was not there. Can they be any slower?
-
Yup. Sent them an email last night about my remaining order with ESD of 11/23/2009, and -- lo and behold -- it shipped out today. This was for an order placed 10/31/2009.
For anyone still waiting for their upgrade to ship, I would get in contact with customer support and let them know you would appreciate your upgrade order being expedited. -
Just got the shipping notice and update on the site today, 7 days after I actually received the discs. That's classic.
-
Completely agree. I had one disc ship out before another and I sent them an email asking why the 64bit ship date was pushed from 11/4 to 11/16... checked the status this morning and it shipped out yesterday
-
Got mine. Now, my question is: is this simply a Dell branded Windows 7 disc, or does it defer from what can be purchased in stores somehow (Dellness installed and such).
Also, is the second CD just drivers? -
It is practically the same as a retail disc
As soon as you install QuickSet the branding is added to the Windows Mobility Center but then that is all. No annoying software etc...
The disc allows a Custom and Upgrade install...
As for the second CD, it is just drivers yeah, after the install Windows 7 put the disc in and checks for any drivers. It also has all the other drivers as well.. -
I had it delivered today.
Custom install went like a dream and all drivers installed.........In half an hour !
-
Okay, I was just wondering if its a good idea to stick the win7 COA besides vista COA?
I have a Dell Studio 15, and there is small closed rectangle kind of shape besides vista COA. Would it be alright to cover it? -
I just stuck it by the service tag sticker...
-
Personally I prefer to keep the stickers off the bottom since the licence key and service tag details rub off quite rapidly if you use the laptop as a laptop!
-
Just wondering, did anyone who has recieved their package get an "estimated shipping date"?
Patiently waiting in New Zealand -
Patiently waiting? I wonder how long you will be patiently waiting for? I would'nt hold your breath on this damn upgrade kit.
-
Well,I called Microsoft (Becuase this is still their software regardless its for dell PCs,and because someone said it was"illegal for me to use this upgrade DVD on my PC,and was not possible to use on it too"My HP Brand PC"),and they said it was fine for me to put this upgrade on my PC regardless of make/model/brand (I have an HP).I explained to them that my Brother does not want this upgrade but said that I could use it if I wanted to.They (Microsoft) said that it will work on any PC (Which it does),and as long as I use the key for one PC (again, regardless of brand,etc..) then I am not breaking any of their rules.
So now I am enjoying Windows 7 and am guilt free becuase they (Microsoft) said it was not an issue.
-
Thats nice. I think they are ok with any good faith use of the software, is the pirates that they care about.
-
got my disc in.. although I'm sure many of you have. It was a Dell disc like the original recovery disc and said it was a win7 home premium disc. neat.
-
Yep, did the same thing on my end. Ran the custom install, although it did NOT save all of my files, settings, programs, etc in the windows.old folder. No biggie though as I was prepared and backed up everything to my external HD. When it came to installing drivers, I played it safe and downloaded everything I needed from Dell Support and so it went, everything installed fine with no probs. I found it funny though that Dell put up a download for the Dell Dock (which was custom made by Stardock) and all it had in a ZIP file was a text document that told you to go to another address to download it. So i got the latest one there but it no has different dock icons than the previous one i had when i got the system. Again, no biggie, it's handiness is enough for me (and I'm probably the only person actually uses it, lol).
-
Well I finally got my upgrade kit today. Even though I got it I am not pleased with how long it took to get in my hands.
-
Still havent got mine.
Registered way before Windows 7 was released!
