I also hope that the XPS comes with the sleeve and ear buds. Those Creative buds that I've read about seem like they'd be decent. They look like my Sennheiser CX300 pair, which I absolutely love. I need another pair for working out. I also hope that the cord isn't asymmetric like on the CX300s.
I got my tracking information and checked it this morning. It said that it as acknowledged in Tennessee (?) and is currently being processed at the Wilmington Ohio DHL location. That was as of about 2:30 this afternoon.
I just looked at my LoJack DHL tracking info and Wilmington Ohio was the last stop before heading to Cedar Rapids. From Cedar Rapids it was delivered to my house. If my computer departs from OH and gets into IA tonight, maybe there is a chance of it being delivered by tomorrow!
---
I was going to try and add my computer to my systems list because I wanted to check and see if I was going to end up with a Samsung screen. Unfortunately, whenever I search for my order I always get the page saying that no results matching the criteria could be found. I guess I'll just have to wait it out and see how it looks. I've already prepared myself for the shock of booting it up to reveal the less-than-astounding Samsung panel.
-
Sounds like yours has a good chance though. My EDD is Monday, so at least it shouldn't be too much longer.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I wonder what made yours seem to get a bit behind. It is unfortunate. I am excited at the idea of it getting here tomorrow, but I'm not going to hold my breath. My current EDD is Monday also.
I hope you have good luck with the shipping. Monday isn't a bad day to receive a new computer. At least it'll break the typical Monday routine.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

Wow awesome deal! Thanks.
-
Shipped, to be delivered by tomorrow.
Pictures to come tomorrow. -
When did you order it spirit?
-
I ordered it on the 27th.
-
Wow so 5 days from order to arrival.......you obviously picked the overnight option which I saw was free but when I ordered it later they all had prices again so I don't know how that works exactly.......Oh well, I will have mine next week either way.
-
Yeah I also screwed up and didn't take advantage of the free next day shipping. My EDD is Monday, but it looks like my Lojack will arrive tomorrow, as it is only an hour away right now.
I'm a little worried though about the XPS. I got my Shipped confirmation from Dell 9 hours before the Lojack, but the only tracking DHL is showing for the laptop is that the shipping info has been received? They received the shipping info at midnight on Tuesday for the laptop, but DHL still doesn't show it as having been scanned at any hub.. I'm hoping someone at DHL doesn't steal it and sell it on Ebay. Is it possible that it just didn't get scanned? It looks like it would have to go through 3 different hubs though before it got to me.. Bleh, well if it shows up tomorrow I'll be pleasantly surprised. -
What day did you order yours dood?
-
I ordered on Sunday, Jan 27th. Not a bad turnaround time, really. The original Estimated Ship Date was Feb 7th.
-
Oh wow so going by that I should have my computer tuesday or wednesday? Awesome!
-
My computer has left the DHL facility in Wilmington. The next stop is hopefully going to be Cedar Rapids! I'm sorry for going on and on, but this is just so exciting.
I was looking at my order and looked through the list of stuff for the computer. One thing was Turbine The Lord of the Rings Online. Does anyone know what that is? If it is the LotR MMORPG, that'd be pretty cool. I'm not a big fan of PC gaming and I don't think I'd be willing to subscribe to play (busy schedule prohibits that), but that would be fun to try out.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
OpenFace, what is it giving you for the amount of days to ship your laptop?
-
Hey don't feel bad, that's what this thread is about! (I hope.. <_< )
LOTRO is indeed the MMORPG. I actually tried it out for a few days in beta. It was ok, but I was playing WoW at the time, so I didn't spend much time on it. I've heard it's improved considerably since then, so I might give it a try. It's cool they threw it in I guess, but I just don't know if I can throw away my life.. err.. get into another MMORPG.
Also quick update here. My Lojack went from Memphis to Ohio and then flew into Minneapolis. I'm hoping the lapper follows the same route! Can't wait! -
Doodman how many days did/is it taking to ship your laptop? 2 or 3?
-
I received the "Shipped" confirmation from Dell yesterday evening. (Jan 30th) According to DHL, I should see the laptop on Monday, Feb 4th. I placed the order Sunday, Jan 27th.
This was with the standard 3-5 day shipping. -
I got the 3-5 day shipping (the others weren't free; perhaps it had to do with the educational purchase program). It shipped on the 30th (my order was placed on Sunday, January 27th) and is estimated to arrive on February 4th; however, the DHL tracking says that it is already out of Wilmington, Ohio. As long as it gets to Cedar Rapids before the trucks get loaded for delivery, there may be a chance that I'll see it arrive tomorrow. Of course, I am assuming that the route goes from Ohio to Cedar Rapids. I'm basing my assumptions on what happened with my LoJack shipment. They could vary a bit, but hopefully not.
I shouldn't be getting all worked up about the potential of it getting here tomorrow, but I need something to look forward to.I sure will be let down to find out that I do end up having to wait until Monday.
So, long story short, it is estimated to arrive on the forth of February. That would be an eight day gap between ordering and receiving. Not too shabby. If it does get here tomorrow, it'd have been only five days.
---
Awesome, Doodman. I look forward to playing it (as long as there is a free period of play).
That'd be great if the computer was close behind. I'd feel guilty getting mine earlier (for a little while, at least) and knowing that people are still waiting for theirs over the weekend.

Most peoples laptops shipped with their Lojack or just after, yours seems like it was a bit behind on that front. I'm hoping that my laptop ships tomorrow after having been built and boxed today.
-
Doodman, I just read the thread about Dell shipping and saw the DHL phone number you posted. I called that bad boy up and checked the status of my shipment. The system told me the expected delivery date is tomorrow!
That just made my night and weekend so much better! Thanks a boatload for that number!
For those that are curious, the number is:
1-800-225-5345
Call that, say "track", and then say your tracking number to (hopefully) hear some good news about your shipment!
Thanks again, Doodman. You single-handedly relieved me of a great deal of doubt and worry!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Alright guys hopefully tomorrow when I get home I will have good news on the laptop being shipped front for you all! Can't wait, OpenFace congratulations on the scheduled date tomorrow, I hope you receive it! Talk to you all tomorow
-
Glad I could help and that is GREAT to hear that you will see that beast tomorrow!
Can't wait to hear how she runs. -
I have school and work tomorrow, but I'll try and get some pictures and stuff up tomorrow night (I sure hope that DHL is accurate in its shipping claims). Until then, take it easy and good luck with each of your own shipping ordeals!

Three weeks estimated turnaround, but I can wait -
And so the tracking hath started.
What really irks me is that although the laptop's being shipped via next-day air, DHL offers three different types of next-day air shipments, so I have no idea when the hell it's coming in. XDDD -
Does anyone know if the Computrace Lojack thing is an actual shipment? My Dell tracking said that that shipped, but I didn't know it was something separate... I got really excited for a minute when I checked my email.
-
The Lojack should be a separate shipment from the actual latptop. At least mine was.
-
Cool, I just called and had my shipping bumped up to the free overnight option! Saves at least a few days that way.
-
How'd you get free overnight shipping? I paid extra (over free 3-5 day) for 2nd day!
-
Because overnight shipping right now is free for everyone if you pick an option for the Dell Preferred Customer to be applied to your account. I didn't see this and thought to call them and ask if I could have it bumped from 3-5 to that. You should call them right now and see if you can get that deal as well.
-
Well congrats on the shipping upgrade. When I tried to have them do that for me (Dell Preffered) they told me they would have to cancel the order to change the shipping! (this was when it was still in the "Boxing" stage) I would have my laptop for the weekend if they could have helped me out with that. I guess I did screw up when I ordered though. I didn't realize that all the shipping options, including next day, were all free.
Apparently I got a crappy CSR.. -
Ya well I am going to keep a close eye on my order to make sure that she didn't leave out that little "detail" or something. On my order status page the shipping hasn't changed to next day or overnight or whatever, it's still showing 3-5 day. WILL it change?
-
I didn't have to be a Preferred Customer to get free overnight.
My laptop's out with the courier. Should get here before lunch. :3 -
I didn't say you did, you just have to select that option. My laptop is still in the build phase about 42 hours after ordering. How much longer until it should be shipped?
-
Give it until approximately the fourth day (96 hours) after order.
-
Will the laptop continue to be built over the weekend? If so hopefully it will be done by Monday and shipped out and arrive on Tuesday!
-
I got mine today! I was worried for a while because I called the status number and they took the estimated arrival date off. I figured that the snow storm ripping through that region put the kaibash on a few deliveries. Fortunately for me, it was being delivered right as I was pulling up the driveway.
I'm not sure what screen I got, but I'm not displeased with it. If it turns out to be the Samsung, I'll probably wait to get a replacement LG. I can see some granulation, but it isn't enough to make me regret my purchase. It could also be in my head.
I am absolutely loving this thing! The Creative earbuds are a lot like my Sennheisers, so they will actually be useful. They sound great.
Dell sure does know how to take care of their customers. The packaging was great, and a lot of the included goodies are neat. There was a strange odor in my box, for some reason. Some parts of the boxing smelled strange.
Well, I have got to get ready for work. I just wanted to drop a line with the good news!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Congrats OpenFace! Be sure to let us know your full opinions once you break it in a bit! Enjoy my friend.
-
Hey that is great to hear you got it and are lovin it OpenFace! So the screen is pretty crisp for the most part? If there's not a halo floating above your laptop then it's probably not the LG! How are the viewing angles on that baby? I guess I don't see the big deal on that issue, since I usually don't find myself sitting across the room kitty-corner from my computer, but then again I haven't had a laptop in a year, so what do I know!? I suppose the wider the viewing angle the better, regardless.
That is fantastic about the earbuds. I had considered buying another set recently, since my Shure in-ears are absolutely shredded. (the chicks dig the tape around the wiring I'm sure) What a great throw-in. How is the cord on the earbuds and are they comfortable?
Good to hear the overall package seems to be high quality. Man I can't wait for this baby to show up! Mine should arrive on Monday. Bummer that I can't sit in front of it all weekend, but for once I have a reason to look forward to Monday! Huzzah!!
I'm thinking maybe I head in to work Monday morning with a story about how I was sick all weekend with "flu-like symptoms." Then once the laptop arrives I play it off all cool like it's no big deal, then a half hour or so later I say I just can't bear the nausea and I should really go home.. The only problem I see with it is Sunday is Superbowl Sunday, so they would likely think I just got drunk at a Superbowl party and was hungover. (could legitimately happen now that I think about it.. lol)
Anywho, well let's hear some more once you get to really take her for a spin Open! -
The viewing angles aren't bad. I'm not one to judge because I've never paid much attention to them before. Compared to my brother's Toshiba from about three two years ago, it is superb. I'd have to test the angles with a movie to see how well it works.
The Creative buds included are comfortable, the cord is reasonable. It is a bit on the short side for some uses, but for using the notebook, it is about perfect. They come with three different sizes of tips so you are able to get a great fit. I really enjoy them and am very pleased that Dell opted to supply the buds that they did. They could have gotten a lower end pair, but they were considerate enough to give out the nice buds.
Monday will be a great day for you. I am sure that you will be very satisfied. You should do whatever you can to snag the notebook and test it out for a few minutes (or hours).
Now I'm going to get all setup to reformat. I want to know how well this machine will perform without all of the Dell "extras".Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
How fast is it man?
-
It's impressing me every time I launch an application.
Of course, I am coming from an Inspiron 9200 with 768MB of RAM and a 1.6GHz Pentium M. That was and (with the exception of my hinge issue) still is a fantastic machine.
I'll take some pictures and post my opinions about it once I reformat it and mess around with it some more.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Sounds like so far, so great! Can't wait to hear how the reformat goes. Seems like it should be straightforward, but usually you get tossed a curveball at some point! Hope it all goes smoooth.
Enjoy!
P.S. Any other details on the LOTR Online deal? You get the full game and a free month at least?? -
By the way, I'm assuming you're sticking with Vista on the reformat since you didn't mention otherwise.. How is Vista on the XPS!??
-
Here is my order status as of today. Looks like I have a two week wait.
And I wanted it yesterday!
I whited out some numbers...
-
The Lord of the Ring game is merely a two week trial. I'll definitely try it out sometime, but it may have to wait until I have more free time.
As much as I would have liked the full game, I'm not too let down by it. I've never been huge into PC gaming.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Do you think my printer could be holding the order up? In that video they said they have to ship everything at the same time, maybe the printer hasn't come yet......?
-
How long do the computers usually stay in the "boxing" stage? I ordered on the 30th and the automated phone service says "boxing" but online just says "in production." Is that normal?
-
I ordered on the 30th too and if yours is in boxing, then mine can't be far. About what time did you order on Wednesday? And yes that is normal. Only the automated voice will tell you specifics, the only thing the site will tell you is just a vague "In production".
