That's a big no-no.
Get onto the delivery company now and explain you're not happy. If there's anything missing, you've already logged the complaint, so it's not like you've opened it, taken something out, and then claimed they took it.

I thought I would pass on my experience so far as my 1530 shipment has been delayed and see if others have better or worse luck than I.

Laptop was supposed to be shipped today but just delayed until 2/25, I ordered 2/2. After a few Customer reps, being incorrectly passed to dell credit dept, hung up on by mistake (i think) and over to another CR I asked for a manager. He was nice and was able to tell me it was awaiting the following parts:
Motherboard/video card and LCD. When I asked what manufacturer the LCD would be he could not tell me.

After I asked him nicely but "strongly" why I shouldn't cancel the order he said he would ask the build dept to expedite (put it higher in the list) my laptop and he would change it from 3-5 day ship to overnight.

I shall see. I just received a status update email with the above date.
Overall the calls were a very bad expereince with inept CSRs.

Great... it is nice to see where people are from and now that I know your from the NY area, you should get your Dell sooner than you think. I did by 10 days.

 

I ordered mine with a T7500, WSXGA+ Screen, 8600M GT, 2 gigs of ram, and a 200 gig 7200 rpm HD exactly one week ago tonight, and according to the DHL tracking information, it is scheduled to arrive some time tomorrow morning. That is fantastic, I'm very happy with the speed shown by Dell so far, I'm just knocking on wood that everything is in working order minus the screen which I know already is a samsung.

 

Good to know. I ordered mine on 2/15, almost the exact same specs (3GB ram instead), my estimated ship date is still 3/2. I actually had a 1520 in my cart ready to go with the 8600M, and when i came back later to buy it (after the whole self-discussion of will I have buyer's remorse) it had vanished from the cart, and the video card was no longer offered with that system. Called Dell, they said it, as of that day, was no longer being offered as an option.... so I wound up spending quite a bit more for an XPS, but at least got the 3-year warranty & accidental care for part of the extra money.

When you ordered your system, did it have an estimated ship date that was much further out than when they actually shipped it?

I am looking forward to seeing the magical word... SHIPPED! in my order status.

 

Lucky you, pretty much same config as mine but much faster shipping. I am jealous. How is it so far? I think I am to wrapped up in the LG Vs. samsung issue. It's freaking me out.

 

I just recieved my 1530, it's lovely! Seems very well built minus a slight bulge in the middle/top of the keyboard, but it's nothing that will bother me. I can see what people are talking about with a slight graniness to my WSXGA+ samsung screen, but honestly it is nothing that will bother me and certainly nothing that will make me want to ship this beauty right back to Dell. Maybe in a few months if I hear that all the replacement LCDs they are shipping out are LGs, I'll call in for a warranty replacement, but until then this thing looks great to my mostly untrained eye. Dagny87, when I ordered this thing last week it told me the estimated day of delivery was the 26th, but I have it on the 20th so they are rather conservative with their estimates, but some people ended up getting theirs on the actual estimated day of delivery, I guess it can be hit or miss. Time for me to start playing around with Vista!

Out of curiosity, and to see if I could help out any of my UK brethren with delivery issues, I checked my sent e-mails, and matched them against my order Status Updates.
Funnily enough, everytime I sent them an e-mail basically saying, "Hi, look, I don't understand why this is taking so long. Could I have some more information? Don't wish to be rude, but I've just spent £60 on delivery and think I deserve a little more than a one word status," my order status went ahead one stage.

Coincidence? Somehow I think not...

Lucky you ninaco, LG or samsung LCD? other that the fact that I ordered with 2.4 ghz proc. we ordered the same laptop, difference is I ordered mine on 2/2 and has been delayed. Est ship date 2/25......would anyone else know if that is a known shortage or how I can find that out, Customer service is not all that helpfull, my patience is thin. thanks!

I ordered via a link on my employer's website (to get a discount). Wonder if that's why it shipped faster. Or, maybe they're just low on the 2.4 ghz proc?

Is there a way to tell now what type of screen the notebook has, or do I have to wait for it to arrive? Of course, odds are it'll be a Samsung. Just hoping I'll be happy with it.

 

NInaco, YOu should have your service code (tag number) already, enter that in dell's site and it will tell you the part number and manufacturer. I'd be interested to know as well!

And by the way, I too ordered from my company's website using employee discount. Dell Customer support tells me my laptop has not shipped because they are waiting for the DVD+R/w and the video card - both parts yours and thousands of others are comming with. Odd isn't this? I reconfirmed that yesterday. I was promised a call back on monday, the day it is supposed to but will probably not ship. We shall see! I did save some good bucks by going this route though. Something is a miss with my order, it's already a week late and most ship early.

 

Sup peeps! New to the forums... I originally ordered my XPS M1530 last week, and decided to cancel and reorder so I could up the processor speed from 2.2 to 2.4GHz and change the Wireless mini card from Intel 802.11a/g to wireless N.

I also found out at work last week that I could get a discount through my employer.. so I applied that as well. So that in combination with a new Dell preferred customer card gave me $150 off the original total of my previous order, plus a free AIO printer (even though it is a piece from what I have been reading, but hey it is free).

I haven't received the service tag yet . . . just an order confirmation & shipping notification.

I'd really like to know when the notebook will be delivered so that I can be home. But, the status on DHL's website has been "shipment acknowledged" since Friday afternoon.

My order was delayed another week. That is 2 week delay now. ALong with my order dell has this stipulation:
"Due to unforeseen circumstance, we have experienced another delay with your order number XXXXXXXXX. Our new anticipated ship date will be on or before 3/3/2008. Due to this additional delay, the Federal Trade Commission requires we receive your consent to continue with this order else we will be forced to cancel the order automatically. "
Then I have to click on one of 3 links for further instructions.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?
Ship date is now 3/3/08. I do not understand this and dell is not being straight forward with me.

 

Mikersizu, I hope you have beter luck than me, I to ordered the 2.4 and pretty much your exact system but ESD is now 2 weeks postponed. From 2/18 to 3/3.
All is the same except I ordered black, 4 gigs of memory and 320 gig hard drive (320 not available as a selection anymore but dell says that is not holding up the order). Same screen, same processor, same video card. Let me know how your order goes.

 

Except for the fact that you ordered a 2.4 ghz proc & mine's 2.2, we have the same machine. Mine was built & shipped in three days. Logically, that indicates there's a problem/shortage with the 2.4 ghz (although logic & Dell don't necessarily go hand in hand ).

I'd call Dell & see if they'll give you a free upgrade to the 2.6 proc. That might speed things up. Doesn't hurt to ask.

 

I (almost) recently ordered a XPS1530 on the 7th of Feb, and was informed that it will be in my possession within 12 business days. That date has been pushed back twice, original purchase deleted and another order place (due to compatibility issues with hard-drive and sound-card). My original $2,800 dollar order has taken now over 12 business days and still not in production. I have read that many orders have been pushed back. Does anyone know a tactic to have my laptop pushed up onto the actual production line? I do not want to wait another 20 days. I was told by an operator (from dell) that i will receive my system "no later than the 17th" OF NEXT MONTH.

I am assuimg you are in the US. I called and asked for a manager and he said he would upgrade me to overnight shipping (he did) and call the build dept and expidite my build. YOu could also request to have someone from production call you and describe the exact parts on back order, that way you can re-order and perhaps get it much sooner, if you prefer.
Also I emailed customer support to ask what parts are holding up my order and this was their replay:
"As LCD monitor, 256 Nvidia GE force, DVD drive and Sound card are back ordered, there is a delay in shipment. Every effort is being made to complete the order. The estimated ship date would be on or before 3/3/2008. As soon as the order ships out, I will email you the status."
Lastly, you could cancel and order from the dell outlet store, there are threads here that descibe the ordering process and customer satisfaction seems high. I am not doing this since I compared my price and I am doing very well by waiting.

 

My notebook shipped Friday (2/22) and arrived today! It has a Samsung screen.

The screen isn't as bright as other glossy screens I've used. But, I think it'll be much less likely to reflect light. (The screen on an Acer I used recently was very bright & had gorgeous colors, but it picked up & reflected every little bit of light.) The viewing angles don't seem bad at all. There is a kind of texture to the screen, but I don't think it's going to bother me.

Haven't really had a chance to play with the notebook yet - only had it out of the box for about an hour. It sure is hot!

 

Well my order has been queued by an operator, who told me that he and his manager made a formal request to push my order onto the assembly line ahead of schedule . . . due to the trouble i have had to deal with. i don't know if this is a tactic to keep me at bay for the expected duration. But at least he created some level of comfort that will last a bit. So i guess the waiting game is still on.

 

IT IS IN ROUTE. the badgering is well worth it folks. everyday for 5 days sometimes twice daily. i took the weekend off but next week i was rite back at it. take some time now to shorten the wait. i didn't get any free stuff. i already loaded it up pretty well and paid for next day delivery and bought a carrying sleeve. i bet if i kept on them i could of, just wanted it shipped screw the negotiations over free stuff.

I guess I have found the right thread to post my sob story.

Originally ordered on 3/4. On 3/6 Dell offered the same system with additional $100 off. I called to get the additional savings and told that I had to cancel and reorder. Did that and then replaced my order. On 3/10 The Penryn processors became available. Rinse and spit with the cancellation and reorder process. During the whole time my estimated shipping date never changed which was 3/17. 3/17 came and went and no shipment. Called for a status and they said it was"stuck" in pre-production and got a new estimated ship date of 3/21.

I ordered mine 3/10 and it says it won't come till 3/28. It's been in the "boxing" stage for like 3 days... I'm only using regular shipping, which was free, so maybe thats why it's coming so late... right after my spring break. oy

 

i ordered mine on 3/10 and it was suppose to be here by 3/18 and when i looked it wasn't shipped out!!!! So i called them up and asked them what was the problem and i gave them a big headache about it. I didn't even recieve an email until the day it was suppose to be shipped out... how ridiculous is that? but i complained and complained and no luck. I was gonna cancel my order but i will see first how it is before i return it (if i do). This is BS. My estimated shipping date now is 3/24 and estimated delivery date is 3/26. When i called customer care they told me it was because they were lacking paint for the laptop LOL..... what BS......

my order was suppose to be shipped 3/24 but they shipped it today (3/21) w00t and i will be getting the new LG display DW306 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WSXGA+, TLF, LGP, V2 ..... hopefully its good i should be recieveing it on 3/25 so i will do a followup on it when i get it.. good luck to everyone.

And just to let you know i see a pattern in the display distribution, it looks like canadians are getting samsungs while as americans are getting LGs.... well thats what it looks like as im seeing all the posts about the displays. Mine is shipping from nevada.

How do you know whether you get the LG or Samsung screen?

 

Aww not fair! Yours was to ship in April and shipped today, mine's been in the boxing phase since Thursday and it looks like they're gonna wait till Monday to ship it.

 

Well, you americans might envy us our short shipping times, but on the other hand i envy you your lower prices.

I paid the equivalent of USD $2350 for that laptop.

So how do i find out which screen i get? I heard about the "service tag" thing, but looking at my delivery notice, the only thing that looks like a service tag (a 7 character kombination of digits and letters) does not work on the dell support site.

 

I think you have to call Dell to get the service tag. They can give it to you once you ship and then use it online to view what screen you got.

 

Sweet! Just checked my order status and it's finally been shipped out.

 

Once your laptop has shipped you can call dell and they will give you a service tag...Mine has shipped and should be here monday on a side note! I ordered it late the 16th.. Im very excited!!! And i got an LG Panel !

 

i ordered mine the 10th and its not coming till the 25th and im in a completely populated area. whats up with that. they lied to me about overnight and failed to pick it up on Friday, in addition to getting my address wrong. I am losing confidence in DHL
