According to DHL it's in the courier's van en route to my house at some point today...it left Greensboro, NC (I live 45 minutes away from Greensboro) about two hours ago. It originally shipped from Nashville, though, and went from Nashville up to Ohio and from Ohio to Greensboro, NC. Let's just ignore, shall we, that Nashville-to-Greensboro is practically a straight shot down the same interstate....

But still, it should come today! No real reason for it not to...

 

Well, no reason other than it's on a DHL truck. I'm just saying.

Hope it comes today for you RingLeadr. I have nothing but good things to say thus far about my XPS.

 

I just ordered today, I need it before my vacation on June 6th.

I got est. delivery date of June 5th (next day from ship date of June 4th). In the past every Dell laptop I ordered came earlier than estimated ship/delivery by several days.

Thus, I though this would be fine.

According to Dell's website nothing I ordered should cause a delay. However, reading posts now I'm greatly concerned and wondering if I should cancel. Is there certain parts that cause the delay ? (e.g. LED Screen (i was thinking about that option wow that seems nice) faster harddrive?

When I called this morning, they told me there is a very long lead time on batteries. Lately, it seems they are right on with their ship dates.

 

It came....it's AMAZING. No flaws ANYWHERE, and the screen is the most gorgeous electronically related item I have ever seen in my life.

Graphics are amazing....I've been installing and transferring files to it. I don't have internet on it yet though.

It's the fastest computer I've ever seen, as well. I installed MS Office Ultimate 2007 in 4 minutes....

Just called them again, apparently mine is no longer delayed and should be shipped within 1-2 days. They'd better not bring my hopes up for nothing.

What a relief........I emailed my CSR on 5/16/08 asking to be upgraded to next day shipping at no cost to me due to the long wait and I finally got a response today.

Quoted by her >>> "I will put this as an manager expedite".

Man I'm really going to sleep better tonight.

What the #*%*^! does that mean? My order still shows 3-5 Business Days delivery, that is of course if they ever get all the parts to build the thing.

 

Just ordered a second m1530 today! (Got mine in January, ordered one for my brother). What a fantastic computer! I remember waiting on edge for my mine to arrive, checking the status many times a day.

When they upgraded me to next day shipping, it showed up on the order page as soon as I got the email saying they did it.

And with the expediting of orders, I don't think they really do anything. My order has been expedited several times now. I ordered 26 days ago. Its just something to get people off the phone.

The rep contact I have is conveniently on vacation for three weeks.

 

Ugh. Got an email from a Dell representative today:

"I assure you that I am here to help you and would provide you with the best possible support from my end.
I have checked the records; I see that the battery and the LCD is currently backordered. Effort is being made to complete the order as soon as possible."

The battery...AND the LCD? Is there a single part on this laptop that is not going to be backordered?

delivery date is today, i called yesterday to ask what stage it was in, which they didn't tell me but the lady said it was supose to ship today. Status online is still "In Production"

 

Mine was scheduled for May 19, it's still delayed ("in production" status) because the 6-cell battery is supposedly back-ordered. No word yet on when it's going to be ready.

Though what makes me sad is the fact that ESD is 5/27 and EDD is 5/30-6/3!
Waiting for this laptop is driving me crazy! I unnecessarily check the status page every few hours to see if the status has changed. I can't wait to get my hands on this laptop! WAAAAHHHHHH!

Checked another thread; I guess I have OCLD (Obsessive Compulsive Laptop Disorder)!

 

I envy you. I ordered on May 13th, not shipping till June 12th. The only person that beats me is ski_merlin.

 

I wouldn't envy him too much. Given the battery situation he probably won't see his until June 12 anyway. Of course, I have the exact same specs as him and my ESD is the 28th...which probably means mid-June for me too.

 

Well Forte, I think that if your laptop is due on June 12th, I would not be surprised if they sent me an email on or around May 27th to tell me that my laptop has been delayed. I am pretty much expecting it the more that I read this thread. I think Sony (the company that makes the batteries) needs to get its act together and start shipping those batteries! Oh well, we're all in this together, so let's wait and find out what happens!

 

Does anybody know if an expedited order is any different than a normal one. I talked to a very nice, well-spoken lady and she said that if they put a "expedite" order through to the build people they'll put it together earlier than machines that aren't expedited ..... or is this just a BS thing to shut me up? LOL

The whole situation is actually due to a major fire at an LG plant in South Korea which is causing a global laptop battery shortage.

 

Thats what most of the people say. Someone had their order expedited multiple times, but nothing came out of it and they are still waiting. I'm guessing its just a way to get people off the phone, which is quite unfortunate. It would stink if you kept begging them to prioritize, and they were like "Ok, lets send him a "new" unit that is from our refurb place, or use parts that failed QC because of minor problems such as slight heat and noise". Hence why I don't call that much to ask for expedited orders and stuff.

 

Someone in another thread mentioned that they called and asked that their already delayed order be "expedited", and they were told by the rep that Dell doesn't do things like that.

So obvioulsy someone is lying...and that fact alone makes me distrustful of anything a CSR might tell me.

 

yea that's what i was guessing. i only called once and apparently it didn't help. i guess it's kinda nice cuz now they'll call me and give me little "updates".

Whoa, Forte, good point. I never thought of that from that angle! I think Dell might put crappy parts in your machines if you keep calling them so that they can get you off their backs.

 

I believe I have three 'expedites' on my order now.

 

So far i've had my order expeited three times.

And once, I was told that they do not do that.

So...it may be made up to satisfy angry customers or it may be some reps don't know what is going on.

 

I in no way was following laptop techonology for years, and I decided to its finally time to Upgrade from my HP D9000V (6150 Go, 1gb Ram, 1.6ghz amd piece of crap computer) that gets 20fps on Wow at 1024x768

So yeah, it seems like I got a good ESD. Is it just lies? The guy on the phone said the ESD is a last resort date and it is guarnteed that it will ship and im quoting "On or before your ESD date"

Is Dell full of Lies? Is it time to call the BBB? Im scared!

Im really scared here I'll be waiting forever, Im currently renting a HP V9000us and its a piece of crap! I barely play WoW with it and it needs to go back on the first..What I thought was going to be a few days without a computer seems like it could be almost a month!

 

Well, I think you're overestimating the influence that a random CSR has over the guys who are building your notebook halfway around the world. I can pretty much guarantee that no individual notebook recieves extra good or extra bad treatment on the orders of a nine dollar an hour service rep.

The rep's only goal is to get you off the phone.

 

well it was supose to be shipped out yesterday but it has not shipped. I called Dell and I was talking to a guy who sounded like he was new. He said a part was on back order but he didn't know what part. Then he transfered me to someone else who didn't know what the hell was going on either. I hung up. If it doesn't ship out tomorrow, should I ask for next day shipping or some money off?

He transfered me to some foreigner who I couldn't understand. I think he told me it will arrive at my house next week. I hung up because I was getting nowhere and couldn't understand this guy. I called on Tuesday and the lady that answered said I wouldn't get it until the first week of June and that it was going to ship yesterday. At what point do I ask for next day shipping or some kind of cash compensation?
