    ***XPS M1530 Order Status Thread***

    Heh, that's pathetic... Dell just informed me that my system will be shipped on 27th of May (prelementary ship date was set to 21st when configuring). My system is being build for 17 days. 17 days - that's quite a lot ! Where do they take components from? Mars? ;] Does Dell offer any recompensation for such a delay? :p
    Unfortunetely, it's not me who ordered this lappy (I'm abroad) so I cannot call them and force anything :/

    I heard that some people complained to the CSR and they got moved up to one-day shipping. I have not heard anyone get money out of the CSR for waiting, however. However, I do think its ridiculous to wait a month for a laptop.

    I just did a Dell Chat to check my order status, and they told me my XPS was not being assembled in another country, but right here in the ole' USA.

    Do they do that, or am I being lied to again?

    I don't know; they might have changed since 2006. Last time I ordered the XPS M1210, I remember the box had a big sticker label in HUGE font, boldly stating that it was "MADE IN MALAYSIA". They might just be lying or they might actually make it here. I know they have a few factories in Texas that make computers, but I don't know.

    I dunno whether they actually build XPS's in the US, but I do think that CRS's pretty much will tell you what you want to hear. Whether they're lying or just generally misinformed, who knows?

    When (if) you get it, it's should have a "manufactured in..." sticker on it. it'll be interesting to see what it says.

    Yeah...They can make it on the moon for all I care...I just wanted to know if it was still going to ship on time, being three days from ship date, and still being in build stages in Malaysia or Taiwan. They then told me it was being built in the US.

    You need to choose any XPS or Inspiron laptop on Dell site. In the upper right corner of screen You'll se an icon to chat (next to the configuration options)

    These chats are tricky, you need to connect to a smart consultant. When I was looking for some info about WUXGA Screen for XPS M1530 only the third one (it was a woman, to be honest) helped me with that. You have to be patient, patient and... patient :)

    @idq000, that was unfair. He's just a consultant and You cannot complain to him about all that. If You want to - make a call to someone who's responsible for sales. These consultants work just like a helpdesk, they may only provide You with some info, but they can't really help You.

    BTW, I'm already waiting 15 days.

    That's actually true. It was a little unfair. But I initiated a chat on Friday when it became apparent that there was no way they were going to hit my ESD. I wasn't as combative as idq000, but rather I legitimatey pointed out that making my ESD seemed impossible, and inquired as to whether he (the CSR) had any specific information regarding what parts might be holding it up.

    If he'd said, "I don't have enough information to answer that," then I'd have been understanding. But the guy insisted that there were no shortages, there were no delays, and that my order would ship on or before my ESD of 5/28. When pressed about the unliklihood of making that date, he said, "I guarantee that it'll ship on time." By the way, I never gave him my order number, so it's not like he even checked anything.

    That's the beef with these guys. They exist not to provide info, or at least admit that they can't help. Rather they seem to exist to feed loads of BS designed to get rid of you. How can that guy tell a customer, "I can assure you once you get your laptop you will not have any problems with it."

    Hey guys I've been following this discussion closely. Lurking you might say :) Needless to say, I was reading several of your comments about delays related to the 1530 and I was concerned. I've been out of a laptop for several weeks due to my HP DV2000z going out on me.

    I ordered my 1530 on 5/16 and I went with the Product Red version that includes both the T8300 and the 6-cell battery which have been reported as delayed. My ESD is 6/3 and EDD is 6/6. I just went into a chat discussion with a sales rep about my order and I had him double check the parts in my order to see if anything was on back order out of stock. He assured me that those parts would not cause a delay. I then called a CSR and she checked on those parts for me and I kept bringing up the point that many people I've talked to had delays on these specific parts. She again assured me that there were no delays on those parts.

    Well, who knows? Dell Rep "Christain" assured me that there were no parts or manufacturing delays and that mine would ship on time too. Those assurances and 25 cents will get you a giant gumball. :rolleyes:

    Of course, your 6/3 ESD is still possible. I'm sure Dell gets deliveries constantly. It's not delayed until it's actually late.

    I guess all I really took awaw from this is that they're not really considering your individual situation so much as they are simply parroting some official company line. Like when he tells me the ESD is the worst case scenario and that it might ship earlier than that. As is that's even possible!

    I also found it interesting that he told me it was built in the US. I'm not sure I believe that.

    See, that's what I mean. They just give robotic responses with no consideration for the actual situation. Again he parroted the "on or before" line when it's impossible for them to ship yours "before." Maybe they're just Bots.

    Just to add to our little discussion here, how much gaming do you folks plan on doing with your xps? That is, if it arrives before its parts are completely outdated! I plan on trying to play company of heroes, the sims 2 possibly, and maybe a few others.

    Hmm.. I wonder if it's the 6 cell battery that's putting you on hold. That's pretty shoddy customer service that you experienced there. I suppose since he realized he wasn't getting a sale out of you, it was time for him to go.

    I got a voice mail yesterday Sat. 5/24 from a Dell rep manager who is taking over my account and upgraded me to next shipping (free) as well as expediting my order (BS). He also said he would be calling me to keep me up to date on my order, we'll see if that happens.

    Apparently my original CSR is off for a while because she isn't feeling well and this guy is taking over. I emailed my CSR last week and requested free next day shipping which I now have so my EDD is 5/29 (not holding my breath).

    I still can't believe it should take a month or more to get a freakin' laptop... :mad:
