Well, they keyboard bulge is easy enough to fix, that's true. But the fact that this problem is so widespread seems to indicate something about the quality control with these laptops.

As far as the screen...sure, they'll come out and replace the screen...with another Samsung. Guys who ended up with LG's reported spending hours on multiple calls and suffering through multiple screen or full system replacements. I don't know about you, but I've got better things to do (sort of) than spend days and weeks arguing with Dell tech support and Customer Service. Why should anyone have to do all of that just to get the product you paid for?

If mine sucks, it goes back and I buy something else. Hopefully I'll get lucky and it won't suck.

It all arrived today. Computer, X-Fi card, TV remote, the works. Ordered 5/15, delivered by DHL 5/29.

Everything looks good, but I haven't started the "de-crapifying" process yet...

I cant believe you would rather return the whole laptop and buy something else after everything you went through so far rather than get a replacement screen..To each his own though, and happiness is what matters.

If the screen is that bad then I'll have it replaced or something...
I just really want my pertty laptop...

Apparently you didn't read the 1900 post thread about how to get a non-grainy screen. It's not just a simple matter of "getting a replacement." If it was, that thread would be 19 posts long, not 1900.

And yeah, if Dell sends me crap, I'll return it and buy something else. Not sure why that'd be puzzling to you.

Because you've waited so long for this laptop. I still refuse to believe every single Samsung screen is grainy.

Well, we're a little ahead of ourselves. I haven't even received it yet, let alone had a chance to be disappointed by it.

But in the abstract, I think waiting a long time for something and then having it be garbage would only make me MORE likely to move in a different direction. I don't think my first inclination would be to wait even longer on the company that had already let me down.

But let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Not all of them are...but even the good ones are crappy compared to the LG. I will have them replace it 100 times if needed. I will do my best to get an LED out of them.

And then, if I am not satisfied, I will sell it and buy from a real company. **** Dell.

They've given you a pretty long lead time there. Unless you run into a serious backorder situation, I'd have to think you'd get that before those dates. But you just never know.

Has anyone called the automated order status hot line and compared it with the online status of your order?

I did and according to the bot, mines boxed but not sealed. BUT! The website still has it in production. What gives?

If they bungle this ETA, I'm more than willing to make contact with my higher ups on this. You see, the company I work for does 6 to 7 digit purchases yearly with them. To get the ear of someone with some clout to investigate this chronic issue, would do some justice for all.

Exactly, if I wanted to or had the time I would have built my on laptop on the likes of a Compal (world's 2nd largest laptop manufactor) chasis. I don't want to be working on a NEW laptop nor should I have to. I build all of my desktops in fact I just built this one in Jan. '08 and I love my Samsung 226BW (2ms response time) LCD & the 2 Samsung DVD burners that I used (fastest read time I have seen) so I don't have anything against Samsumg they make great stuff.

That said when you wait 31 days to get a laptop, listening to one excuse after another, that is supposed to be top of the line you would think they could get the basics right.

Whew, that feels better, I just needed to vent... :D

I'll let you know about the screen later tonight when I get back but if I don't like it I may see about an upgrade to the 1440 x 900 LED (on Dell) in compensation for waiting so long and recieving a laptop with 2nd rate workmanship. I don't have to have the 1680 x 1050 res. Having been in construction all my adult life and running my own construction company I'm all about workmanship.

I'm sort of irritated with myself for not getting the 1440x900 LED in the first place. Even if my 1680x1050 screen turns out to be OK, it's probably not the best for my 40 year old eyes. Report back on the Samsung. Mine should be here tomorrow, so I guess I'll find out myself soon enough.

I got the dreaded "delayed" email today.

Only moved back one day. . . until I get an email Friday.

    Why they delay? Battery? Screen?

    Anyone have a guess????

Well, @Fountainhead, if You receive a lappy with crappy Samsung screen You can replace it for other Samsung (cause not every Samsung screen is grainy!) or LG. But I ordered a WUXGA and Dell take this screens only from Samsung. So it seems I have no choice. If it will be good I'm gonna order the second XPS with same screen for my wife.

Here is the thread about WUXGA in XPS M1530 >> http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=243174

Maybe not the worst, but they really have some trouble completing orders these days. I've purchased a few things from Dell in the past and building as well as shipping were incredibly fast.

Canceling my order will be shooting myself in the foot because I want the dang thing.

I honestly believe its the 1680x1050 LCD you ordered. They're probally trying to sand the grain out of your screen before you get it :p

I still feel bad for you all getting delayed and screwed, and I have voiced very well my disapproval for my order flying through before ESD while people like you get screwed matt.

I should have done my research before ordering. I should have got the LED screen, and 9 cell batter. And the 320GB hard drive. Price would be the same ($100 more for the LED, and $150 less for the HDD. Not sure about the battery price..) If I would have done that, I probably would have had my system weeks ago.

True, 9 cell is an extra $169 dollars.

I paid 1704 all together after tax. I got ripped off, but it shipped early! I got a whole year to pay it off so it doesnt really bother me.

Hey guys, I am so frustrated from Dell, I ordered mine on 4/24/2008 and NOW I got the second delay email, so the new EDD is 6/6/2008, I called the CRS and the told me that I can only cancel my order, they even refused to give me a (Second day shipping upgrade) !!!!!!

I am really thinking to cancel and get the (Gateway), but just after all that waiting I am also thinkiong to hoild on but that would be almost 50 day for waiting !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you know any similar case like mine, or am I the worst?

That's pretty bad. You must have gotten real unlucky with your components, ie, you were backordered on something earlier and then when that supply came in there was something else backordered. Lather, rinse, repeat. Have they given you any details as to what you're waiting for now?

I give you full marks for patience though. I'd have told 'em to bag it long ago.

Ha ha. Close. 11:35. I'd literally walked into the house (being relieved not to see the notice on the door), patted my dog on the head, and the DHL truck pulled up. Literally one minute after my return.

Notebook is going through the initial boot. Exterior cosmetics look fine. No bulge in the keyboard. Just got into Windows...monitor shows as SEC3350...definitely the Samsung. My initial observation is that it looks fine. Had I not read this forum, I'd not have any reason to think this display sucked. We'll see if I notice any suckiness as I move forward. I was worried that the 1680x1050 might be too small for my eyes, but it looks pretty good.

I'll post more observations later if I see anything noteworthy. So far. So good.

Oh yeah, the Midnight Blue is much darker than the pictures on the web site lead you to believe. My initial reaction when pulling it out was, "Hey, they sent me black!" But it's really just very dark blue. Looks good though.

@Fountainhead, as You can see You're an example of satisfied Samsung user :p

I hope my 1920 will be so good, so I won't have to replace it. My wife is still complaining that I'll lose my sight (such a shame, cause she doesn't know that if everything is fine she will get this lappy and I'll order the second one with better specs) ]:->

Still there is no tracking number for mine.

As for the Dell delays. I think the reason are these 250GB 7200rpm HDDs. I've ordered 250GB 5400rpm, so mine is already shipped. But what is that HDD ? I'll check Seagate/Hitachi/Samsung websites to find these, but the biggest 7200 I've seen is 200GB.

Well, I've found Seagate 250GB 7200rpm, it's brand new series Momentus 7200.3. But it seems they're still not on market.

And there is 250GB 7200rpm hitachi as well. It's Travelstar 7K320 series.

Hope to see them on newegg.com soon !

Well, as I posted in the other forum, I can see what some people may be talking about with regards to the screen. If I get up to it and look very closely, there is definitely detectable graininess, and the whites may not be the brightest I've ever seen. Like I said, if someone had great eyesight and was particularly picky, they might be bothered by this screen. My eyes stink though. To me it looks pretty much like most other notebook screens. If you sat it next to one of the LG's, I'd probably be disappointed in mine.

Moral...don't sit it next to an LG.

Tracking takes quite awhile to show up. It's possible DHL doesn't even have your package yet. Dell has simply transmitted the info.

I received notice from Dell that my package had shipped late Wednesday night. I didn't get an actual tracking number until Thursday morning. And then it was early this morning before DHL even had record of that number.
