Build still, wooooo.
-
Have they given you any reason?

Just called again this morning and got all to excited because I had it on speaker and there was something playing on the tv and I swore they said something that wasn't "build". Unfortunately after repeating it was still in build. 5 days till my Ship Date. I was looking at macbooks and I could have one of those in my hands before my ship date.

Ok, I probably need a little help here guys. Finally after being stuck in phase 2 for about 3 weeks, the Order Status page suddenly changed to phase 5 in this evening. It said that my carrier is going to be UPS and the date of delivery is today, which is the 9th of June. The problem is I don't have any tracking ID whatsoever as the carrier link in the aforementioned Order Status page led to nowhere.
This is Dell Germany though so the mechanics should be similar to Dell UK or something if it helps. -
-
-
Finally decided on getting an M1530. Ordered it last night, I hope it comes as fast as it says it may.
Order Date: 6/9
ESD: 6/17
Just called and it's in build. Can't wait to get it =D -
Man... this build stage dealy needs to finish up...
-
Mine is exactly the same as mojojoe (order date, specs), except for overnight delivery making the EDD 6/20/08.
-
Exact same as above too, except 3-5 day shipping, and a different hard drive. UGH!
-
Thought I'd pass on a positive story which might help anyone keen to get their new laptop a little quicker than usual.
After plumping a XPS 1530 after much research (specially on this site/forum), I was going to buy from a reputable eBay reseller due to their very quick delivery times as I'd heard Dell could take upwards of 2 weeks to deliver. However, I couldnt get the exact spec I wanted from the reseller - plus those Dell discount vouchers made the price difference negligible. I put together an order on the UK Home site, then rang up Dell CS. I said I'd like to confirm the order but I need the machine fast (my current lappy is on its last legs), so I could only order direct with Dell if they could prioritise my order.
I called on Sunday (8th June), and the woman said (after consulting her manager) they could guarantee the machine arriving by this Friday (13th!), so I took that but wasnt too confident (asked for them to confirm in writing, but the invoice that came thru said June 23rd!).
Anyhoo, checked order status yesterday - Phase 2, being built; sceptically checked the order status this morning and lo and behold it had already been despatched to the courier! Spoke to the courier shortly afterwards and I have a delivery slot for tomorrow morning - just 2 1/2 days from picking up the phone to (hopefully) the box arriving.
Super impressed with this and just shows what you can get if you ask
Looking forward to playing with the following tomorrow:

Well mine is still building. I may call later today and fight my way through the reps and demand an answer. I was at Best Buy today and saw the m1530 in person for the first time in a long time. I almost bought the overly priced crappy spec one but am trying to hold strong.
-
Just ordered mine today
Ordered: 6/10
ESD: 7/7
EDD: 7/10 - 7/14
It's going to be a long wait... -
Hey Lord Egregious, I have the same exact order date / shipping date and I'm having the same problem - EVERY TIME i call it goes "BUILD" stage. (most irritating thing in the world). I also just saw it in best buy and was like...... "damn i need this computer before i go crazy". Anyways, I've called and gotten no reasonable answer from the crappy customer service people as to how long this delay is gonna be, so if you make any progress PLEASE tell me. Also, keep me updated on your "build" status and I'll do likewise for you. Let's get through these rough times together =.=
-
Yes together... one antsy group.... waiting and waiting....
Im still building today... -
Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
Called and still in build.
I emailed the customer service again telling them that I didn't appreciate the three times now that they've lied saying it would ship by the date they gave me. I called on Saturday asking if it was the battery and if it was then they should just throw a 9 cell in it since they are giving them away on their promotion. He told me if I wanted to do that I'd have to cancel and reorder.
-
I'm a bit confused at people ordering the exact same model I did getting theirs far faster despite also ordering the 6-cell battery.
I ordered as part of the 5/30 "deal" of which virtually all the placed orders were cancelled, however as I'd made mine over the phone with an EPP rep mine survived. So, I am reluctant to call about the timeline because I don't want to risk mine getting cancelled, either! -
I was epp also.

Well so far from my experience calling doesn't get you anywhere. I get the same answer of no delay, no problems, it will ship soon. I may just cancel on friday if I get a delay message because this has been ridiculous. I could have ordered last friday and gotten the same ESD if I went with the 9 cell.
If they are having such a terrible delay on the 6 cell then they should have called people and offered them the 9 cell for maybe 50% off or something. That way they are still paying for the 9 cell but also relieving the pressures of the growing 6 cell pile. -
So when I came home from work today, I got the dreaded UPS InfoNotice slip in my mail box. For those who are experienced with UPS, I'm thinking of changing my delivery address to my workplace in the slip but will it take another day to deliver the package or will the guy deliver it on the same date as he picks up the InfoNotice slip? My office is just about 3km from my home.
And I assume I could not go to the Service Center to pick my package up without the slip right? Thanks in advance. -
Just ordered my XPS M1530 today boys, specs in sig.
I can't wait.
I ordered from Toronto, Canada. The dell location is a 30 minute drive from where I live.
Hope it arrives within the next 1.5-2 weeks -
Why do these things take so long? Mine is supposed to ship on the 19th which is a build time of almost 2 weeks. It can't take more than 30 minutes to put a laptop together if you got all the parts. And I choose to not pick any items that would delay it. Others who bought parts that were delayed wait a month or more. Crazy I tell you.
I have ordered many Dell desktops years ago (2003 and prior) and they would get them to me within 4 to 5 days of ordering. -

End of the day report. Still in build and no response to an email I sent yesterday about any possible delays. I'm nervous since I moved the funds to cover the laptop that I may just buy one when I'm out and about this weekend after the inevitable delay email.
I hear the ASUS laptops are great but there is just something weird about buying a laptop off newegg even though I do all other kinds of business with them. -
K so got some "good" news lord egregious. I just called customer service again and made sure to make it clear whether or not my computer would be shipping by the ESD of 6/13, which you have too. (I also ordered 5/26). I asked "If my order is delayed, will shipping be upgraded to overnight for free" and she responded that "your order won't be delayed, you would have already recieved an email saying it will be delayed. The order status should change today or tomorrow". So if she's not right and we are delayed on the 13th, I will be seriously ticked off with Dell and may just cancel my order. Anyways, if she's right, thank the heavens.

That does sound good. I'd be relieved to hear that on the phone. All previous delay letters have come around noon of the ESD though so I don't know why she would say that we would have already gotten them. Tomorrow I'll have to stay busy to not think about it as much but Friday is going to be crazy.
Both times I called today my mind trying making it sound like she didn't say build. I'm going crazy. -
Yeah same, I convince myself it's mutated its way into boxing but in my heart i know it's build. Anyways, i know about the "around noon on the day OF ESD delay" and I agree, i'm very skeptical of what she said. But we can hope. GOD I HATE THIS WAIT.
-
Well, there was a little change in my order status page. The tracking number info chaned from "No Data Available" to "Data Temporarily Unavailable". I'm not sure if I'm imagining things.
Now, I'm ordering from Mexico, the process is you have to wait until the box goes through customs and then 4 days more to even know your tracking number. There's no other shipping options and the current one takes from 9 to 13 days. Bummer isn't it?
Update: it seems it's just Dell.com having temporary issues -
Just ordered my Black Dell XPS M1530 tonight, 12/06/08. Got fed up with Acer...
Specs and ESD in Sig, I will update later with final delivery date.
Ordered within Canada. -
Nice system.
-
artful, I've got all the same specs as you, and ordered 2 days ago. Hopefully nothing we ordered will be delayed.
-
Now this is relly interesting. My Shipped date changed from 6/6 to 11/6.
What is going on? -
Thanks mattocs, I really hope I have no crazy issues with dell, but I've got 4yr CompleteCare coverage as well.

Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
Still in build the day before my ESD and I received a reply from the Dell rep. Instead of the usual it will ship before or on, he gave a speech about how they may have shortages on parts or it may take extra long to test because they care so much. He pretty much guaranteed my delay without actually mentioning delay.
-
Hi everyone. I just signed up for the forum specifically to hop into this thread. I read about notebook review in a couple news articles about Dell shipping delays.
I build PCs and I was going to put together a new one, but laptops really are catching up to desktops for performance so I decided to try the 1530 from Dell.
I'm thinking it was a mistake.Ordered yesterday, 6/11, ESD is 7/8. With delivery time that's better than a month. Far cry from the near instant gratification of putting together a tower.
Changes I made to the default build were the LED screen, the solid state drive, the t9300 cpu, bluetooth, and the 802.11n wireless. Dunno if it's really worth the wait, but I guess it gives me comfort that others are suffering with me. We'll see if I can stick it out or if I lose patience and spec out a desktop for half the cost.
-
Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
Ddraig, you could probably get it shipped in a week if you order the 9 cell battery. I haven't' seen many other orders with the SSD though so that may cause a little delay.
-
Ahh, it's the batteries that are causing the crazy delay? Does the 9 cell add much size/weight? I really like the slim form of the laptop, I'd hate to add a battery hanging out the back, or tack on a couple lbs.
-
Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
I don't know about weight but it doesn't hang out the back. It goes down from the unit so its like a little stand in the back. People mention that its more comfortable to type with a 9 cell and it adds more room for air ventilation. I didn't order one when I ordered but now they offer 30% off and free on some units.
If you are on the order page it will show what parts add days and which don't. Toggling between the 6 and 9 usually changes weeks.
Update: I've got someone who is actually emailing me back and I just received this reply. "I have reviewed your account details and see that 56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion P Primary Battery, for XPS M1530 is backordered and that is the only reason your order is taking time."
At least I have an answer instead of everything's alright. Not sure what I'll do now considering I don't even have a time frame that they may be able to get it out to me and I ordered with 3-5 day shipping. -
Here's an update: After your suggestion about the battery (and thank you very much for it
) I called Dell to ask what was delaying me. They also said it was the battery. It took about 30 minutes and 3 different departments but they canceled the order and placed a new one with the 9 cell and it's actually costing me about 20 bucks less (I triple checked all the components, it's the same exact laptop, they gave me a discount).
Knocked about 2 weeks off the estimated time, and the rep said he would talk to the higher ups and see if they could shave any more time down. I'm sure he's just saying that but he was very nice and I appreciate the words anyways. I didn't haggle or complain, just asked if they could help me out, that a month seemed excessive. -
Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
I will definitely talk to them later today. I usually talk and they just tell me it will come one day and I'm like alright. I'm still emailing and talking about how much trash this is. I'd definitely rebuy with the 9 cell but for some reason its over a 100 extra even with the free battery. I don't know what happened but something must have raised somewhere from when I ordered.
Update: I called and as usual with the India reps I got told from what I understood that it will ship tomorrow. I asked if there was anyone else I could talk to about why maybe the order was talking this long and if they were going to delay it tomorrow when I wanted to do business today and I was told nobody else could talk to me about it. I must have terrible communication skills -
i ordered yesterday and my etd is july 9th, wow, why does it take that long? thats about a month of wait..
nvr heard of laptops taking this long to come, i mean 15business days is enough but a month, come on
whats going on -
I got my tracking number today, 7 days after shipping. I should get it in no more than 5 days.
Update: It's in my city now.... I may get it this afternoon.... -
Still in build, guys. I have no doubt that I'm going to get delayed now, and that I'm supposed to go up north for a week when the delayed delivery date probably is. Yay.
-
3rd time is a charm!
I am sending my replacement unit back now. I got a chance to fully examine it today, and there are DENTS in the palm rest. \
I told the rep to send me a palm rest and i'd install it myself. She kept trying to get a tech to do it, so finally I told her I am still in my 21 days, and I demand a replacement.
Sooo, I am sending it back now and getting a replacement.
I hope this one is perfect. -
Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
That sucks to hear mattocs. That is why I ordered as early as I did for the fall semester. It has already taken about three weeks to build and I can only imagine the trouble to get a perfect unit.
-
Sigh... so egregious... this is complete BS. I called again and they are like "you will probably be getting a delay notification tomorrow" (which is completely contradicting what they said before) and then i asked if my shipping would be upgraded or if i would recieve a rebate and they said "no, you would have to cancel and reorder to upgrade shipping". They said that I can either wait it out or "cancel my order". Some customer service... that's just great. About a month of waiting and all we get is "screw you : keep waiting or cancel the order".
-
Don't despair jmg731, I've got very contradicting messages from them but in the end my experience has been OK, it seems it will arrive before the ESD.
mattocs, wow, You're a really pacient person.
I called the shipping company. Even though the package is on my city and it was brought here exceptionally fast for ground shipping they said they're not obliged to deliver it until the 18th so I may or not receive it before that date. Doesn't cheer me up to think it will be sitting there, 40 blocks from me until the due date. -
Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
I also got told that they couldn't upgrade my shipping. That seems like the thing to do if they aren't going to hold to the dates at least give 3-5ers overnight and give overnighters free shipping. I may call later today again or email because I'm still upset that they would treat us like this after we purchase $1000+ laptops.
I just received an email two hours later from the conversation I had with a rep. Here it is incase anyone wants to see it. Seems like I'm still just waiting for my delay letter.
"Thank you for contacting Dell Online Customer Care. I am a Manager with Dell.
I understand from your e-mail that you are not satisfied with the services provided to you. I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you. I will be glad to assist you.
I understand that we lose faith in a company if we receive poor service from them. Let me see what I can do to resolve your concern at the earliest.
I am concerned to read in your e-mail that the company provided you with anything less than the most courteous and professional service. This is not the way we train our people to conduct business services. It is something that we are constantly focusing at, as a daily business practice for improvement. By bringing this to our attention, you have provided us with crucial data in our ever-vigilant efforts to raise the standards of individuals, upon whom we rely to give excellent service to our customers. Your feedback will continue to be seriously considered in our ongoing endeavors to improve services.
I can understand the frustration this may have caused, as I would also have felt the same had I been in your place. I would call this a rare case where we did not meet our customer?s expectations. We, at Dell, firmly believe that we have reached such heights only because of customers like you. It is our endeavor not only to just fix the customer?s problem but also to make him happy during the interaction. I assure you that such a mistake will not be repeated and all steps would be made to make improvements. On behalf of Dell, I apologize to you.
I have also escalated this issue to my manager and we would look in to it that nothing of this sort happens with our valued customers in future. Your feedback is very imperative to us. We do appreciate your efforts and time." -
