Welp, I just received my delay e-mail as well. 26th for me too.
How did you find out real information about the order? Did you call the customer service number? Each time I called I got nothing but a re-read of "in production" and the build date by clueless Indian call center reps. Did you ask to talk to a supervisor or something?
-
-
Yup epp support number- Being nice and pressing questions and using words such as "unacceptable" and having a good story/ reason the pc is needed will get you far. You want a case number so they have record of you. You want to bother them as often as you feel the need. You only get "treats" like upgrades to make you go away. My next conquest will be a dell mug when I call monday. You have to have goals.
No need for bosses- they can't do anything more than the reps. Maintaining calm niceness when you are full of bitter hatred, and in some cases whiskey, seems to work well in wading through their "service." -
Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
What number did you call exactly? I've tried many different approaches to get to someone who would help me and each time I've been ignored. I'll probably be waiting till tomorrow to get my second delay and then calling because its absolute trash that they don't provide overnight free with two delays.

1-800-915-3355
But i just say "person" or "operator" from first set of options till i get a person. Usually this person takes info and gets you to another group...thats were i have had success. -
Well, the planets must have aligned, because I just had some luck with Dell customer support. I am shocked.
Called and asked the first rep about finding out why the machine has been delayed so long and if I could get upgraded shipping. She said that the order modification department would have more information and more ability to help me, so she transferred me there.
Got on with the order modification rep and told her the same story, waiting 25 days, blah blah blah, unacceptable, need shipping upgrade. Initially she said that since this was the order modification department, they might not be able to help (groan) but that she would talk to her manager. So off she went, about 2 minutes later got back on and said the reason for the delay was (drumroll please) backordered batteries. She didn't have a better idea as to when it would ship, but her manager DID approve Next Business Day shipping for my order.
Logged onto order status page, and the estimated ship date still reads the 19th, however it now shows Next Business Day shipping in place of ground.
Still not thrilled about this ridiculous delay and the seemingly random way in which some people are receiving their machines before others, but at least I won't have to wait 3 or 4 more days for ground shipping.
Agree that the best way to handle this is to be as polite and understanding as possible. Calling up raging mad probably won't get you anywhere. -
Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
Unintelligible you haven't gotten a delay message when your ship was today? Don't tell me Dell is getting lazy with the delay message now.
-
I received my delay message at around 3:30 PM EST today.
I've still got my hopes up that since other people have been told the 20th that I might be getting mine before the 26th. And since I'm one of the folks that's been waiting longest I'm crossing my fingers that it might get out tomorrow, if indeed the batteries come in then. -
Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
Damn. I get mixed up with all these messages about delays and batteries. I don't understand how if there was a battery shortage how people who ordered in June were getting theirs with 6 cells. Oh well I'll be waiting for my second delay tomorrow.
-
I'm only guessing but I would assume all Dell laptops aren't built in the same area... diff area's diff supplies, that being said you would have to take into account where your system is being built...
I could be wrong! -
Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
I thought all dell laptops were crafted in a dark hole in Malaysia. Of course we all know that the customer service is outsourced to hell.
-
1530s are made in malaysia.
-
Well I did cancel my order, after they gave me a two week delay email.
So I went and watched around the Dell Outlet for awhile until I saw something I liked, and grabbed it. I ordered it Tuesday Night (6/17) and it will be arriving tomorrow (6/19). The one I got even has a few upgrades from what I was getting.
New Specs:
m1530 Tuxedo Black
T9300 2.5GHz
4GB Ram
8600m GT
320GB SATA
1440x900 LED LCD.
Hopefully its a good one.

Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
Good to hear FreekBoy. I was looking at Dell Outlet too but I couldn't get what I needed which was exactly yours. I may be looking more closely at the outlet after I see what my new dellay date is.
-
I was going to get a 1530 off of Outlet, but finding a LED screen was a pain
-
Guess what guys!!!!!
Build stage. Still. -
-
omg me too!! ....
I mean I ordered a laptop?? -
Ordered on 6/15 and it looks like it shipped tonight (6/19) with an EDD of 6/24-26. Didn't get an email about it yet, but the order status screen says shipped, sooooo....
Tuxedo Black
LED LCD
T8300 (2.4 GHz)

9-cell battery -
Ugggghhhh....

4GB RAM
250GB 5400RPM HDD
1440x900 LCD Screen
6-Cell battery
Ordered 6/8.....ESD 7/2... still "In Production"
Did they forget about me or something? -
-
Mine was just delayed a SECOND FREAKING TIME. ESD of 6/13 delayed to 6/20 delayed to 6/27. Now they have put up a thing on the page that asks for my CONSENT to continue with the order and "all future delays" or an option to CANCEL the order. I'm telling you I have never seen a company work harder to get someone to cancel an order than dell. GREAT customer care.
-
Yo polarix, I just checked out the new deals they have, and my dad is a world-clas negotiator ... so he got on the phone
an hour later, im getting a 70g hard drive upgrade, upgraded monitor, an extra year of service, for free, well except for a 5 day delay
edit: 6 cell -> 9 cell upgrade free as well -
Hahahahh. I'm not the only one who has to wait a month now... Hip Hip Hooray Delay
-
Well I've had mine for 2 days now and it's been working great. I put a fresh load on it with some games. It came in perfect condition. Screen is great, no dents/scratches or wobble. So far so good. I hope you all get yours soon as it's a great laptop and a great deal.
-
I have been looking lately on the outlet site and found one with all the specs I want but it says it is scratch and dent so I don't know if I want to order it or not....do you know if they fix them or not on the outlet? Specs are:
Vista Ultimate
T5750 2.0GHz
250 GB HD
3 GB Mem
128 Video
Bluetooth
Wireless N
Midnight Blue....all for $929...what do you guys think?? -
That's actually not that great of a deal. Look at what the XPS starts with for $999. It's not too far off from that, is it?
-
Is it just me, but I am not able to configure a system on the dell site...it keeps me going in circles but I can't get to the screen to configure a system...I just wanted to see how long the delay on the batteries are now but I am not able to get anywhere to configure it...maybe they are not accepting new orders for a little while? I am not sure.
UPDATE: I contacted Dell chat and they had done an update so it is working for me now. -
I have talked with someone from Dell and he said that the delay is because after the earthquake in China the lithium-ion factory burned down so it has slowed down them receiving the batteries. At least he gave me a reason whether it is right or not I am not sure but it sounds plausible. Told me mine is very short on the list and should ship in the next few days so we will see.
-
I'm serious. -
Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
So just got my second delay. Can anyone actually use the dell customer chat online? I've tried over 50 times and never gotten through to anyone. I really want to talk online since I feel I can better convey my disappointment. Maybe firefox is blocking it?

Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
Well thats trash. I sit for a whole hour just hitting go on that and it tells me they're all busy. I'm still idling figuring out if I'm going to go ahead with the dellay or not. I'm trying to get random members of my family to call for me since I obviously can't do it right.
-
I'm on hold for the order modifications department right now. The FIRST thing the Dell CS rep said was "This order will be shipped out on or before XXX, but if you do not wish to wait you can Cancel". I said no and he said "Are you sure you do not want to cancel?"
He then told me that, after I asked for compensation, that everyone will say the same thing: No. I still asked to speak to a manager or the Order Modifications Department, with no avail. Finally, after demanding to speak to them, he said he would forward me to them.
Progress, maybe? -
On hold again, the rep sounds like he is going to upgrade to next-day shipping for free.
However, he kept stating that he would have to cancel and re-order if we were to make ANY changes to the computer itself. Redskins, did they have to cancel and re-order? -
Wow, Lord, u got a new ESD??!?!!
That is ridiculous, Dell should really compensate to buyers who've been
waiting for like 3~4weeks. Geez,,,
And goodluck Polarix speaking with the rep and give us an update with that -
You are having better luck than I did....I called last night and she told me that there was absolutely nothing they could do after the order had been placed....absolutely NOTHING.
-
Got free next-day shipping.
The rep said that there was no way they could modify the laptop itself, which I can possibly see without re-ordering which I do not want to do. Maybe, if it's delayed again I'll do that (ask for compensation on hardware and reorder). But, if the laptop is already made and all they are waiting on is the battery, I can see how we can do that.
He said that I am virtually at the top of the list for waiting on a battery. Also, the rep said that, unofficially, there is a battery shipment coming in today, and another on the 22nd. -
Gzz.... So I called to ask some questions after getting my new esd for the 27th and I first asked
"So my laptop has been delayed twice and I believe it is due to the 6-cell battery correct?"
He was basically like "Unfortunately I'm not provided that information, I just know that there is a delay in manufacturing" "Thank you come again"
Haha ok he didn't say the last part. But gzzz they don't know anything I wanted to confirm and find out if they were going to get this shipment of 6-cells today I hear people talking about. I then asked to be transferred to order modifications and he did but I didn't feel like waiting. I'll call back.... -
Polarix, what number did you call and how did you go about getting the free next day shipping?
-
-
Tialmo,
I called and did the usual run-around with the CS rep, then asked to either talk to a manager or talk to the Order Modifications department.
Can someone please confirm: If DHL is shipping to my house and I get a tracking number, can I call DHL and tell them to hold my shipment and let me come pick it up, or have them deliver a certain date? -
Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
So call 1-800-964-8321 and then after they give you the same story ask to talk to order modifications?
-
After nearly a month of lurking in these forums, I felt the need to express my displeasure at Dell as well. Like many of you, I ordered a m1530 with a 6-cell battery towards the end of May (5/27) and today received a second delay e-mail (Revised ESD: 6/27). I seriously cannot believe how pathetically slow the company is at fulfilling orders on time. I think most of you would agree with me when I say that we could have ordered from almost any other major computer manufacturing company and received our orders in under 3 weeks. Obviously we wouldn't be getting an m1530, but right now I'm seriously questioning whether its actually worth it anymore to wait any longer for the notebook.
By the way Dell, JIT stands for "Just IN TIME" not "Jolly Incompetent Twits". Get it straight, for God's sake.... -
Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
I hear ya Kentric. I had my mind set on an m1530 since January and now when I needed it I'm waiting over a month.
-
Can anyone confirm: if I get a tracking number, can I ask them to hold it? -
I would assume that if you have the tracking number I would contact the sort facilty where it will be delivered to before the courier gets it and I would think they should be able to look for the tracking number and hold it for you..
-
Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
Well I just learned not to call the random number from the email. I was asked if I wanted to continue the order and I said yes and he says good day and it was over.
Now I'm off to the general number. Woot I made it to the order modification department. I'm scared that they'll ignore me.
Update: Looks like the order modification department is a one man band. Been on the line for 27 minutes and counting. -
@Polarix: DHL will hold the shipment at their facility for you. Alternatively, you can call them and authorize them to drop it off at a nearby friend or family member and they should be able to do that too.
-
-
Lord Egregious Notebook Evangelist
Thats it. I wait 30 minutes to talk to someone and I get told that its just batteries and its not their fault and that I can't get any upgrade on shipping and there is nothing they can do for me except cancel my order.
