    Lord,

State that you've seen it done before, and sure they can't change the hardware in the laptop but they can change the shipping date. Ask them to speak to a manager.

My dad was on the line for an hour, after a while he just went:

"You cant modify my order? Then what exactly is the f&^*ing ORDER MODIFICATION department for?! Let me talk to Customer Service, not this Customer Care bullsh%^!" ... 5 minutes later he was talking to a supervisor, getting free upgrades

Well, it sounds like I will be cancelling my order. Once my mom gets home, it looks like we are going to order this:

    XPS M1530
    T8300 2.4ghz 3MB Cache
    1440x900 LED LCD
    4GB DDR2 RAM
    320GB 5400RPM HDD
    8600GT 256MB
    Intel NextGen Wireless N
    9-cell battery
    Integrated SoundBlaster Software Edition
    2-year In-home Warranty

    for $1408

Sure, a slower processor, but I get same RAM, larger and better HDD, same video card, samre wireless, BETTER SCREEN, BETTER BATTERY, Better sound, longer warranty.

Just gotta wait for mom to get home... ;)

See usually I'm off the handle crazy screaming but I figured that if I took the nice approach that they would take care of it for me. I emailed them so maybe I'll get a talk going about how much I hate Dell. Maybe I'll just wait now and take my huge desktop with me to college and then buy one later on in the year.

    Got approval from the mother.

Looks like my new system will be:

    T8300
    4GB RAM
    8600GT 256MB
    1440x900 LED LCD
    320GB 5400RPM HDD
    9-cell battery
    2 year warranty

for $1500, about $150 more than what I originally paid (but like $400 in upgrades, so good deal).

Mom is making me chew out the guy though because i got a runaround of excuses, and she wants this laptop for the original price that I paid. :D

Polarix did you order it yet? If so what was you ESD? I just talked to the order number and it seems the website is showing incorrect ESD's because the ESD on a 9cell is 7/8 right now.

Yes, I ordered. The ESD is 7/8/08, but I'm willing to wait until then if I get a 9-cell and an LED LCD.

Don't worry, with 9-cells people have been having them ship a week ahead of time.

Edit: I just ordered the computer 10 minutes ago, and it's already in the build stage? LOL.

My second delay notice got here this morning. I was so pissed I called and cancelled, then had second thoughts and reinstated the order. I figure they will be prioritizing the backorders now that the batteries are in and it should be soon. My ESD is the 27th of june now.....

Nice work Polarix. Thats mad crazy if you get it by Friday. My mom refuses to call for me even though i do it all the time and get shut down. She thinks I need to just go to a store and buy the most expensive one and be happy.

Well I got it today, and I am typing from it also :).

It is perfect, I was worried because it was refurbished but it looks brand new. Great screen, no keyboard bulge and everything else is good. Right now looking at things before I reformat it.

One thing though, it does not sit flat. It wobbles every so slightly when I put weight on and off from typing, but not a deal breaker at all.

good to hear about your reburbished laptop. I searched for awhile but couldn't get what I wanted from the outlet. Maybe the dell gods will shine on me and I'll have mine shipped soon.

I am in exactly the same boat as you. My system was ordered June 3 and on June 6 I found out the ship date was the 27th. I've been going back and forth with Dell with no major results other than getting next day delivery when the system is ready and a $50 coupon to shop on the Dell website.
My biggest problem with Dell is not disclosing that the battery was back ordered and not upgrading to a 9 cell for customer satisfaction. I even called and offered to pay to upgrade but I was told I could not make any changes unless I canceled and re-order.
Good luck to all of you that are waiting

    tonyb

This is the system I ordered:
    XPS M1530, Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 (1.83GHz/667Mhz FSB 2M L2 Cache)
    Tuxedo Black Casing XPS M1530
    3GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm, for XPS M1530
15.4 inch Wide Screen WXGA TrueLife LCD with 2.0 MP Camera for XPS M1530
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
160G 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive Free Fall Sensor

After the second delay I also called and spoke to order modifications. After hearing the story from the rep that I couldn't get upgraded shipping unless I cancel, I asked to speak to a supervisor. After he said the same thing I told him that I know of people who are getting the upgrade in shipping. He said that they are suppose to tell us that they can't unless they cancel and reinstate the order. He said that he could put it in the system and yes it will reflect on the website but manufacturing will still send it normal shipping and they will not get updated unless it is canceled and reinstated.... :(

Good news though. Although we are the unfortunate ones who have to deal with delays he did say that he knows that they have put in "massive" orders recently for all the delay parts which should be in or coming in soon.

He actually wasn't Indian or anything and did sound genuinely helpful.

Maybe the end is near??

I really feel for you guys waiting for your notebooks. I've gotten mine just 1 day after than original EDD ( delay was for two more days ) - thanks to DHL for delivering it to me one day ahead of schedule. The XPS 1530 is very nice -so far everything is immaculate (especially display - LED screen is gorgeous ).

My only gripe is that it didnt ship with Vista SP1 as the new builds are supposed to - so you got to factor in all the extra time to download and install updates. Furthermore, I tried to resize the partitions but ended up making the machine unbootable. Spent a whole morning rebuilding the disk using the included DVDs. Here's what really got me - some of the drivers included in the Dell utility disk don't work my machine  - especially the bluetooth and Dell WLAN drivers. I had to go online, enter my service tag to get updated working ones. The bluetooth utility will not install until you added a special patch from a European Dell support site. Weird.

Finally I have everything redone to my liking - but it took the better part of a day and I really got rid of a lot of bloatware, and a special thanks to many
    great folks in these forums.

You can just be my mom too, lol. What she brought up was the fact that we've been waiting for 3.5 weeks, it was supposed to come here for my grad party, and now it's not (party is tomorrow). Blah blah blah, demand that it be here before the date, blah blah blah expedite blah blah.

Edit: MrBoyd, as I heard they got a shipment of batteries in today, and are expecting them in on Sunday as well.

Don't matter to me though, I'll wait an extra week or two for an LED screen anda 9-cell. Yay for inclined laptops :)

finally joined after reading forever, had to share the sweet sound of the testing stage. called up expecting the same "build stage" but got a pleasant surprise.

so everyone on the fence about canceling this should be the end, at least for us may folks.

my buddy ordered his a week before me and got his june 2nd so the jealously has been building.

Yah, I almost crapped myself this morning when I heard that beotch on the line say my system was in testing now. I still don't have faith that it will ship on the 23rd as stated, but its closer now.

I do have to say I'm disappointed though that I never got any compensation for this. I tried a few times. All I really wanted was a laptop bag or something to make up for my sticking with dell and not forking $1600 to someone else.

Well, this just goes to show Dell does not prioritize based on order date. Congrats to everyone who is in boxing, but it is kind of messed up that folks who ordered days after I did are seeing progress yet I'm still stuck in build.

I am seriously beginning to believe that I will never get this laptop.

It's the people who ordered 5/25-5/27 who have progressed to testing/boxing/etc. If you ordered before that, you have every right to complain. If you ordered around that date, you should be getting to the next stage any hour. If you orderered after that date, you are wrong about the prioritizing.

Dell apparently got a shipment of batteries in yesterday, so they may be backed up in trying to build the m1530s. Whether or not it's true, I don't know...but give it a day or two and hopefully yours hits boxing too.

Sorry rated, I've gotten the same msg and my date still the 27th. They did
promise to ship next business day at no cost to me but that remains to be seen. I am pissed because I bought thru an Employee Purchase Program and I was told that it was just very busy at Dell (lie) and they put the date of the
27th but it would for sure be sooner.......by the time I found out about the battery it was too late to get out of the deal. Other people called and they were given a free upgrade to a 9 cell and their laptops were shipped in a few days. Dell also seems to have different standards for their customers. I am trying to find some big wheel at Dell that I can write to because the battery was not the only problem.

    good luck to you

I canceled my 6-cell order because I didn't care if it came next week now. It had been too long and I called to tell them that it was the most ridiculous experience I've ever dealt with. I reordered with improved shipping, a larger hard drive, and the 9-cell. Maybe I'll receive this before school.

Well....the wait may be over. I called for the hundredth time today and instead of being in the build stage, it is now in the boxing stage (Yay!). Must be the batteries are being rushed to the oldest backorders first. I bet it will be shipped by monday morning. (it is now saturday night). I can't wait! Glad now I reinstated the order after cancelling it.

I ordered my laptop xps1530 on 05/27. I called to complain with someone at Dell 2 days ago. He was very rude to me, and said I should have cancelled my order. I have been waitting my laptop for a month, and now you said I should cancel my order?!! Fusk you Dell!!! Sent my laptop to meeeeeeeeeeee, and go to hell!!!!

I really hope that theory is correct. I looked back and you ordered yours on the 24th, right? I ordered on the 25th so MAYBE mine might see some kind of change in status either tomorrow or Monday.

The website still says build stage. If you call the number, the nice prerecorded voice says its in the boxing stage. Batteries came in on friday, and more tomorrow as well. A rep told me they are prioritizing on a first come, first serve basis.

Well, I dont know where on the website you are seeing build status, but it only says "In Production" for me. When I call the automated line, it says "your order is in production, and is currently in the build stage." That's all I've heard for 28 days and counting. So I am still in build until I hear that lovely little voice say boxing, and I'm not holding my breath for that.

I do wonder though, how accurate the statement is that they are prioritizing shipment based upon order date. Plenty of folks that ordered weeks after we did, i.e. June order dates, (with 6 cell batteries, as well) have had their systems shipped and delivered already.

I'm starting to think maybe my system fell off a tray somewhere along the line and is gathering dust under a conveyor belt. :)

Well it shipped as of 6/22/08! Whoo Hoo! I guess it was all boxed and ready to go, just waiting on the batteries . Build stage for 3 weeks, batteries arrive on the 20th, boxing on 21st, ship on the 22nd. If this hadn't been on a weekend, it would have been all on the same day.

Mine is still in build stage, and doesn't seems that it'll ever get out of there.

I'm having no luck upgrading my shipping either. But then, since they can't answer what in the world is a "center dashboard" either (Refer to my last post if you want to know WTH I'm talking about), I'm thinking that they don't even know how to build my laptop or something.

Yea that pretty much must have been the case. The same has happened for me with boxing on the 21st then shipped 22nd. OMG to call and not hear build stage is amazing. EVENTUALLY I guess Dell gets something right. If ordered in may I'm sure all the orders are on their way out.

So, my order went into boxing on the 21st of June and today I log into dell to see that they want my consent to delay the delivery until June 30th. I said ok, but for christ's sake it had better ship before then since it is in boxing. 27 days and counting now and 3 calls to CS for upgrades with no results. I will NEVER EVER recommend a Dell to someone again after this experience.

Rickorion, these people have no shame, how can they ask you for more time? what would happen if you say no?
