Hm...

I ordered my laptop on the 21st and got the order processed on the 24th, after the 9-cell delay. My ETS was August 7th.

I just checked the site and they said that my laptop shipped today and I should get it on July 2nd.

I'm happy that mine shipped so quickly but I can't help but feel bad for others who've waited so long. I also find it extremely strange that it did so quickly.

 

Dells system is weird. Your system is not built until all parts are in. They don't 'hold' parts. You may have lucked out, and everything else was in.

 

My second replacement shipped. It says it will arrive on Tuesday. If it is not perfect, it is going up for sale or it is getting returned.

I only had to wait 17 days

 

So finally my laptop shipped yesterday after the order being placed on 6/1. I spoke to customer service on the phone the day before the laptop shipped and they were absolutely zero help. The woman was obviously reading from a script and told me about this warehouse fire that supposedly had taken place. I'll list my specs so that hopefully others can get a ball park time of when theirs will arrive.

THE AUTOMATED LADY DIDNT SAY BUILD STAGE! LOLOL! its in kitting stage now. anyone now how long that usually takes until it goes to shipped?

 

Kitting is before build. It's when they place all of the parts in a kit to send down the assembly line. However, most people who go back in status like that seem to go right up to boxing and shipped within the next day or so.

I believe they do build and your status will change on weekends. Hopefully they ship it out within the next couple of days.

 

Could people who have recently received their XPS list what accessories they have received? It seems to be VERY random nowadays and I want to know what to expect. Thanks.

Still in Boxing, I'm hoping for it to ship today or tomorrow at the latest

 

Mine shipped yesterday. They never upgraded the shipping so I guess I will be receiving it in 3 to 5 days. I am just glad it shipped before the third ESD of 7/3/08. Does anyone know where they ship from? Dell has a problem providing tracking numbers for whatever reason.

 

is it normal for a order to go from building stage to kitting stage back to building stage?

 

This gives me hope! My system's almost identical to yours save for the LCD screen. I wouldn't care so much when mine's getting in if I wasn't leaving town on the 8th. Hopefully it gets out of "build" soon, this is making me nervous!

As of this morning mine is "in production", it was in "pre-production" for about a week. Things are moving along swimmingly now.

 

I ordered mine on 6/12 with an ESD of 6/27. I got a call saying it was delayed on 6/27, with a new ESD of 7/3, It was in the build stage then. Today(or last night), it changed to testing, and this afternoon it changed to boxing. I'm hoping to have it by early next week.

same here still in boxing with identical specs as ace except black instead of blue, and I ordered on 6/2.

It would appear that the bottle neck is finally opening up and that some orders are leap-frogging over others. I know mine has, ordered mine of 6/11 and still in boxing. IN any case, there's obviously a conga-line of new Lappy's leaving the factory so everyone rejoice!

 

So I'm at work (Geek Squad), myself and another agent were talking about WoW and how with my new laptop I'll be able to play WoW and WC3 on the patio, then go jump in the pool right away (haha).

Decided to call up the order status line to hear "boxing" again and...

My order has been placed in the hands of the carrier and will ship the next business day!!!!! OMG!!!

Yaaaahhhhh!! I should get the laptop tuesday or wednesday. Woooo, no work then too, ALL DAY to play with it. Gaahhhhh, I can't wait. Woot!1

When should I be getting a tracking number?

It can take up to 24 hours to get a tracking number. Mine is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday. Third times a charm....I hope.

 

I hope to god that mine doesn't have any defects or problems like you've had, Mattocs. I hope your third one is the perfect one

Question for ya though; if mine were to come with a defect or dent or bump, do I get to keep that one until I receive my replacement, then ship off the old one? Or do I have to go weeks without a laptop again?

 

You can keep the defective one, and use it, until the replacement arrives. When it comes, since it will have the same hardware configuration, or close to it, you can just swap hard drives, and you are ready to go. Don't have to reinstall programs, redo settings, etc. My second replacement had a different LCD and DVD, but when Vista booted, it updated the device manager to reflect any changes. I had never done that before, and was worried Vista would flip out and i'd have to reinstall.

The replacement comes with a prepaid DHL label. You put the old one back in the box the new one came in, call DHL, and leave it on the door step for them to get the next business day.

 

Ok cool, so I don't have to worry much (unless if I got a bad one and dell would not let give me a new one lol).

Ok, I finally got a tracking number and the lady told me it was shipped today and since they gave me next business day I will get it tomorrow.
I am going to the DHL website to check the progress.

Sounds like we're all starting to make progress now. It was so great to hear "testing" last week, then "boxing", then "hands of the carrier" two hours ago, and "this order has shipped!" a few minutes ago.

@Polarix: I'm very jelous of you man, very similar systems, ordered the same date, same ESD, and yet mine is still in the build stage :'(. Did you do anything special? I've called dell a few times, but they're 0 help.

 

Mother opened a can of whoop-butt on a CSR and demanded it to be expedited like crazy - top priority.

 

I never got a shipping #? I think ours is sent through Canada post so it'll take 7 years.

 

Mine is following right behind polarix's it was in boxing until about an hour and half ago then it said in hands of carrier yay.

 

ohhh, my laptop is in America, has to come to Canada.

Very nice, I called up the order status number today and it said my computer was in the "Build" stage. I went online to check my order also and it said it had shipped and will arrive on 7/1/08, a week ahead of schedule. If it really shows up then I will be very pleased with Dell.

 

What should I believe?

Website says EDD is 7/2/08...

E-mail says 7/1/08.

 

By website, do you mean the DHL tracking site? I would believe it...but it depends where it is at.

I know UPS will come early if they can. From my experience, DHL will let your package sit until the said delivery date.

If it's at the center, can I just go pick it up instead of waiting for it to come? lol..

I've tried whispering sweet nothings to the automated phone lady...no change yet but she will give in.

 

I called DHL about that, you cannot on a weekend, and they said they usually want to make a delivery attempt before you pick it up.

 

I've got shipping info as well now also it says edd of 7/01 but I guess that depends on whether they actually have the package or not, since TN is very close to me.

 

Still in build here....should be going into testing or boxing here soon I would think since people that ordered after me have their's shipping already...unless they have forgotten about my order

 

Holy Crap!!! I thought I would check on my status one more time before heading to bed and it is now in the testing stage!!! Maybe I will get it before the 4th when I have a long 4 day weekend!

 

Ordered 6/12 ESD 6/26 delayed to 7/2 with upgraded shipping to next day 6/27 boxing 6/28 shipped estimated delivery 7/1 and in the email 6/30 but that is impossible because there hasnt been one business day in between for DHL to process so I would believe the website
