Did you guys get a ridiculous estimated ship date at first, then it changed later? Or did it stay true to original esd, except for you guys who experienced delays.

edit: need to added 4 to Year Warranty/LoJack/Accidental Damage Protection -
You have the same exact system as mine. I just got my laptop yesterday (8/20). It's awesome. Enjoy!!! -
Called to get an update (see specs below). Apparently there were FOUR back ordered items, only one of which was there when I originally ordered:
1. Base motherboard
2. LCD
3. 6 cell battery
4. And a freakin wireless mouse!
Got him to expedite and upgrade the shipping, which is probably just lip-service at this point, but at least there is someone tracking the order for me now, whether it helps or not.

Current Status: Build Stage -
Can't wait! Ordered mine 8/18 and am in Build stage since 8/19. Thought I got a fantastic deal since it included the warranty. bmerk, can't believe yours is going so fast!! Hoping for a status change on mine soon.
Excited!!!!!! -
-
. should i call customer service and ask if theres gonna be any delays?
-
-
Dell is going to call me early next week to let me know the status of the accessory kit. Also, I realized today that lojack is not on my system nor did I receive the CD. I called today and was transferred 5 times! Finally, they said that they will ship me the CD. I should get it in a week.
-
Looking at peoples posts.. I feel like I'm really getting shafted here. most people get it within 3 weeks.. im on my 5th week now and the stages are progressing extremely slowly.
Kitting took me 2 days (mon & tues)
and its been on the BUILD stage for wed, thurs, and fri.. what the heck is going on? theres no way it can be building for this long.. I really wonder whats happening to my laptop. If it continues like this, I probably wont get it until the 6th or 7th week -
wow, you're revised estimated ship date is almost 2 months after you ordered..did you call in and complain? I'm sure they'll do something extra to appease the situation. I would be frustrated if I had to wait the entire 4 weeks that it looks like it's gonna take to receive mine, let alone 2 months.
-
I got free next day shipping before (which doesnt help much, because the extra month delay pretty much negates that), and I emailed again and was basically told that they cant do much and they gave me the number to cancel my order if necessary.. I'm not sure what else I can get out of this
-
(roland) You're specs are identical to mine, although I ordered a week later (8/1). Estimated ship date is 8/27 (again, one week later). I too got upgraded to next day/etc, so I should know by Wednesday whether I'll be delayed out to mid-September like you were. If so, I'll have no choice but to cancel.
-
Well you can check your status online and if you are not past the build stage then I doubt you will get it shipped by 8/27.
Ive been in the build stage since last Wednesday.. which is ridiculous -
Ordered 8/23, estimated ship date 9/3.
Red, 2 gigs ram, Intel C2D T8300 2.4 ghz, 250 GB @5400 rpm, 8600m GT, 1280x800 screen.
P.S. Why is everyone buying it with 4 gigs?It was $100 to go from 2 gigs to 4 gigs, and with 20% off coupon, that would mean $80 to upgrade to 4 gigs. A 4 gig kit of higher quality RAM from Newegg costs $70, and then you can sell the 2 gigs that were in the laptop (for 30-ish I imagine).... Maybe you guys had different deals?
-
(roland) - I've been in the build stage since 8/4. I'm fully expecting for them to tell me it's delayed, either by the phone call I receive tomorrow or by email. If so, a canceling we will go.
(Armored) - a lot of the deals lately have been coming automatically with 4 gigs, as did mine. One of the pre-configured options. -
Ordered the 18th, been "in production" ever since.
-
Ah, ok, that makes sense. Thanks. -
I ordered mine on the 8/16. It is in production and the ESD is 9/4.
I tried calling the status update line and apparently my order shipped on April 16, 1999. Then I realized that the number is for the US only. Anyone know if there's a Canadian number to check the order status? -
-
Dell called me today and gave me a free $60 credit for not receiving the accessory kit. Yippee!
-
I think they're getting sick of me calling about my status, but today's update:
Still missing the LCD and the 6-cell battery. Supposed to ship tomorrow.
I'm about 95% certain to be canceling either tonight or tomorrow.
Oh well.

So I've now got a little bit of info gained in this process to pass on to those still waiting.
- The delay time listed on parts when you order doesn't mean squat. And in fact, if items get delayed after you order, they don't reserve them for you. For example...my order showed a 9 day delay on the LCD only. When I called a week ago, they said the battery, motherboard and LCD were all missing.
- Call customer service at least once to inquire, and tell them you need the order as soon as possible. Automatic upgrade to next day shipping (and expedited...though I don't know what that means).
- On follow up calls, don't expect your CS agent (the one that opens the ticket) to ever call you back. He/She may even make notes on your report explaining why they didn't call back, but you have to call to find out.
- When you call and get status again, expect various parts to come and go from the 'missing list'. Example - the battery showed up yesterday, but today, again missing from my order.
- If they offer to send an expedite again after the first one, they are just giving lip service. One of em mentioned to me that they could send it, but the manufacturing department would just reject it because there was already one in place. Apparently they didn't all get that memo.
- The Dell customer service agents have no clue about the 'build stages' wiki, or if they do, they don't expect you to. For example, they wanted me to believe that my order could still go from build (with missing parts) to testing to boxing to shipped in under eight hours.
- If you are nice about things when you cancel, they don't try the sales pitch. That part actually worked! Of course, I essentially recited his responses back to him, but whatever works.
Good luck on your orders, and with your soon to be new puters.
-
I placed my order on 7/31.
The ESD is 8/26 (today) buuuttt I received a call from dell today, and they told me my new ESD!! ANGRYY!!!!.
It's on 9/10 or before! =( -
Hm, this is not sounding too good. A lot of you ordered at the end of last month, and are not getting em until now?
I just ordered mine on the 23rd, ESD of sept 3rd, you think that is realistic? -
wow!!
sept 3rd??? =S -
I ordered mine a month ago.. my ESD was a week ago.. when I call its still in the build stage, before everything was cited to be delayed because of missing parts (LCD bezel), especially because it is MIDNIGHT BLUE.. which I believe causes extra delay. My build went into kitting probably 8 days ago, and then went into building 6 days ago.. but now it has frozen on "build" stage. Dont know what to think.. Im not realistically expecting it before the new ESD 9/15.. its really sad if it takes me almost 2 months to get it
-
Ordered on 8/19, ESD is 9/2.
According to the phone status thingy, it is in the 'boxing' stage, and has been for three days.
I'm tempted to call and see whether that's really true after reading all of your posts, but I have a difficult enough time hearing without having to deal with bad english and heavy accents.
-
Im on the verge of cancelling for the new E series or the M4400, those things are powerful.
-
Also the screen looks great, and the build quality is top notch. No issues as should be expected.... -
A 6-day turnaround, huh? I ordered early on 8/5 and I've been in the build stage for the last 22 days. As always, CSR says it's the lcd bezel. At least he's doing "all he can" to "expedite" my order.
-
Wooo. Shipped today - DHL says it will be here Friday.

My order.. which has taken longer than everyone else.. is finally going to be shipped soon, according to the supervisor of the rep Ive been in contact with via email. 3-5 business days it will be shipped.. meaning sometime next week, so I waited about 6 weeks for it
-
Dell said my laptop is in the final stages of production and I should have it by 9/5. Only one day after my original ESD. Not too shabby.
-
When did you order Eisengrim? We have the exact same set up. Did you get the 9 cell?
-
He said a few pages ago that he ordered 8/16, a day after you, but it seems to be random when orders are filled, as evidenced by the fact that some people wait a few days and others a month or two.
-
Arrived today, as ordered.
Wooosh! -
OMG, what's the name of your avatar. I remember the video and I want to watch it again, haven't seen it in years. But I can't remember the name! -
To whoever asked, I only got the 6-cell, which I believe was delayed at the time. -
-
My order with Dell has been pretty horrible. Placed the order on Aug 5th & est shipping was 8/29. Called couple times, everytime I called them it was like talking to the same "answering machine", they kept telling me that it would be shipped out before 8/29, even yesterday when I called!
Of course today(29th) when I called, they told me that the new shipping date was 9/15, and they're not even guarantee that.
Good thing that I've placed an order from Lenovo T400 with similar setup(slightly more expensive but better deal with faster processor) just in case it doesn't arrive in time for my next weekend's trip. ordered on the 26th, today it was shipped out! And the sales representatives whom I've talked to have been very helpful and they sounded like they actually had minds of their own.
So based on my experience, I'm canceling my dell order.
dells sucks, lenovo rocks!
-
Cancelled my 1530 and ordered a beastlier M4400. They didn't even bother to stop my cancelling, they must expect it by now from many M1530 orders.
& I wouldnt say Dell sucks, I think this is just a bad summer for the M1530. -
Well, for the first time in 24 days I'm not in the build stage...because I've gone backwards to the kitting stage. I'm just relieved to not be hearing the phrase "your order is in production and is currently...in the build stage."
In all seriousness though, should I be encouraged that they actually bothered to update the status, or should I cancel my order and go with something else?
I♥RAM, when do you expect your M4400 to ship? -
no dell sucks
Seriously though, I had 3 of my friends owned Dell's(3-4 years ago) "m" series gaming laptop and they just stopped booting after about just a year or so.
2 other people I knew owned thinkpad around similar time plus myself, none of ours broke after years of use(and abuse) until I pour a full glass of apple juice onto my keyboard on an airplane....
I would've never considered dell before the XPS series came out and then I heard some good stuff about it, now with the shipping delay & customer service like this, I probably won't consider it again unless there is a very good reason to. From what i've seen so far, thinkpads have higher craftsmanship & they're more durable than dell xps anyway. -
Sounds like a case of bad luck. I'm sure theres people with thinkpads who's experienced the same. Abrupt failure sounds like any piece of technology, still not adequate reasoning to say Dell sucks. Ive had Dells all my life and never failed on me. It's all customer preference, luck and timing, and for Summer 2008, Dell sucks. Not all the time though. Lenovo laptops are ugly to me. Rather go with XPS or Latitudes.
@ Nopal: My estimated ship date is close to what my M1530 was, September 23, 2008. Funny because I ordered that M1530 2 weeks ago. -
My BLUE M1530 finally got a tracking number, which I suppose means it's finally finished testing and is going to be shipped either today or on monday.
So that was a month and a week of waiting for myself, just for anyone else who's waiting on a midnight blue m1530 (Blacks seem to take shorter)
