Well, finally in the boxing stage after 24 long days. Fingers crossed that it'll be here by Tuesday with next business day shipping.
-
Well I ordered my 1530 yesterday and My ESD is 9/16/08, but my rep thought it should ship out sooner.
-
Mine arrived 19 days before my ESD, haha.
-
Well I ordered mine online on 8/6 and my ESD was 9/2. I was doing this with the assistance of an agent via both online chat and phone because I was having some issues my credit account and applying some coupons and I was told that even though the website said 9/2 that it would really ship within about 5 days. Of course after about 5 days I contacted the agent again and he just BSed me and said he would look into it. He never got back to me so a few days later I emailed him again and he emailed me back and said the delay was the battery but it was in stock now so it should ship soon. After a few more days I just called the 800 number and they upgraded me to free shipping and supposedly sent a message to the build center to expedite my order but said the web cam was back ordered and they couldn't promise me anything sooner than the 9/2 quoted. So it has been another week plus and nothing and now here it is 9/1 and I get a message on my phone saying that my computer is delayed for the battery again and they can't even quote me a ESD right now. I don't know how some people that ordered after me with an LED and 6-cell battery already got theirs a while ago.
-
Hi, I ordered my Dell XPS 1530 last week 24th August and received it yesterday 1st of Sept...my EDD was 4th Sept'08.
So, 3 days before my EDD. Also I checked my order status...it's still in shipping stage...while i have my lappy in front of me...
And yes, i asked for all forms of customization from Processor to RAM, Screen and so on...
Overall am pretty happy with my XPS...no issues thus far.. -
-
fonduekid, thanks for the tips mate, have checked almost everything except the card slots...all's working fine...
-
OMG you've given me such hope! My ESD is 9/5, and as we're drawing nearer to that day, still in production stage. I was fearing it wouldn't come earlier like many people's laptops do. But now it just might
-
I'm happy for some of you guys that got your laptops, I ordered my XPS Aug.12/08 and had an estimate time of delivery Aug.28/08. Guess what nothing happened in fact I called and wondered why it hasn't left production yet, they told me of part shortage, which was a battery, didn't know 9Cell batteries were that popular and that my order won't ship until Aug.29th. Well isn't it the weekend and monday is a holiday, so I told them so I will have it by the 1st or 2nd, they said yes. Went to check the status again online not left production yet, and I called and asked why the laptop hasn't shipped yet, they told me they have all the parts and is still waiting for the battery, this was after they told me that they were missing 5 parts. Seems like they make up excuse after excuse to give you a reason to wait. Now my ship date won't be until the end of this week and I won't receive it until the end of next week that would be Sept12/08. What the hell, it takes 5 days to get from their fast shipping factory in texas to canada living just across from detroit? I order stuff from tigerdirect and their products tend to be shipped from the us to canada and it only takes them max of 3 business days. What's wrong with Dell, do they really want to lose this many customers?
When I get this laptop I might order a 6 cell battery and if that takes me about a months time to get, that's the last time Dell will see my business.

They don't build them on the North American continent. They build them in Asia. I ordered 8/5, been in the boxing stage for 5 days, and I got a call today saying that they hope to ship it by the end of the week (it's already been delayed once), presumably because it's still sitting in Malaysia and they don't have enough completed systems to fill up a plane to North America.
Once they've filled enough orders to make it worthwhile to send a plane over to this continent, then they'll box them up in retail packaging and ship them. -
If this is correct, it's a real bummer. I live in Dallas and have always received my desktops "next day" with UPS ground shipping and was counting on that. Guess that advantage is blown out of the water when buying a Dell laptop. -
After getting my delay phone call yesterday which they wouldn't even quote me a new ESD, I also got the delay email today with a 9/9 ESD.
-
These people must make up a delivery date because they said it will now ship on the 11th, are they creating a joke here because guess what SEPT 11th. What a bunch of bull this company is putting its customers through. My stupid idea was to give my HP laptop to a cousin because it was a 17inch laptop the **** thing weighed like a couple of cement blocks on your shoulders, and the battery didn't last more than 2 hours. Now I'm stuck waiting for this laptop and DELL (HELL) making up excuses as they go along. I swear MICHEAL DELL is so stupid for letting this happen, I guess they really want to lose customers, and if it wasn't for their in house financing some people wouldn't have bothered with them, now I'm giving them a try to see if their quality is any different. Guess they showed me that they can't be trusted and can't be relied on for any type of customer service. Parts shortage my ***, they have been giving this excuse out for since I saw these forums a couple of years, you would think they would have resolved this issue already. I work for Chrysler Canada and if we ran our company like DELL we'd loose all of our customers and not to mention suppliers. So for them to give me this issue about supply shortage is totally bull, we run our company on per order basis and supplied parts on demand yet we dare not delay our customers.
-
Yeah, I hear you. I had to wait almost a full month for mine to be built, and now, after having been built and tested, it's been sitting in a box in Malaysia for 6 days, likely because they don't have enough completed orders to fill up a whole plane. So not only did I wait for MINE to be built, now I have to wait for enough OTHER systems to be built before Dell sends them over to the US. It's this kind of stupidity that allows some people to get their systems 5 days after ordering and other people to be stuck in limbo for a month and a half.
-
Yeah....... Well, its the original ESD, and go figure, the laptop is being delayed. -.-
When I called up Dell customer support, they said that although the laptop was in the boxing stage, the EDD is 9/23. When I asked why it would take so long if it is already in the boxing stage they said they didn't want to raise my expectations, so it is an overestimate......
Wait.... Isn't that exactly what they did when they sold it to me, and the sales rep assured me that 9/3 ESD was an overestimate and it would probably ship before that? mhm......
When I asked if I could get the shipping upgraded, they said its impossible to change that after the order is placed. Anyhow, Dell needs to stop throwing sales on these suckers and assuring the customer that they will receive it soon (if supply is down, prices are supposed to go up.... not down....). They need to stop thinking about making more money, and start thinking about serving customers with accurate information.
P.S. What is up with some people getting it in a week while others wait a month or more? Anyone who gets it in a short time, please post your system specs please. -
Now Dell is showing a 15 day delay for the Blu-ray drive which I have. I wonder if I am going to get caught up in that now too. Lets see I have LED screen, Midnight Blue, 6-cell battery, Blu-ray drive. I figure I will be getting mine about October 27th.
-
After 19 days in "Build", yesterday it changed to "Testing" and overnight it's in "Boxing".
Specs:

4GB RAM

256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive for XPS M1530
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery

My ESD is tomorrow, the 5th, so it seems to be on schedule. EDD is the 10-12. -
this is really weird because in the uk we only have 4 stages, order processing, pre-production, in production, delivery production and delivery.
-
In the U.S., you have to call in to get the in-between stages - kitting, build, boxing, etc. The website only has the pre-prod, prod, etc. -
I have never called and used the automated order status before but I just called and it said I am in the build stage. Does that mean they are actually building it now or could it still be waiting for parts? On the website it has just showed in production since day one and hasn't changed.
-
Ok...enough of the stupid talk...the truth is, it may or may not actually be building and may or may not have all the parts. Call and speak to a CS rep and ask if it is being delayed for any part shortages. Only way to find out...and even then they may be telling you false info.
Good luck. -
Well, Dell finally shipped my order today after 30 days. And of all the days they choose, it has to be this one, such that it will be delivered tomorrow, when I'm leaving on business and won't be back until Wednesday. Oh well. Good to at least know that it will be waiting for me when I get back.
-
Well, it looks like mine has shipped.
Maybe all my complaining on the phone helped.
Should arrive Monday 9/8. So 17 days from order to arrival. -
Called the rep today to find out that the 9 cell battery is what's delaying my order. Apparently everything is ready except they are waiting on the battery. I don't know if I should believe them, but I don't really have much choice. They switched me from ground shipping to next day shipping, so I guess I've been appeased slightly. Ship date is still scheduled for September 11, but the rep told me that was only an estimation, and that she didn't want to guarantee anything. If it's past September 11, I'm going to be pissed. I know I ordered late, a week before classes, but first tests are coming up in a week and a half, and I would like to have my laptop by at least then. If it doesn't ship on the 11th, I'm gonna call everyday and **** people off.
-
Mine finally shipped!
It should be here by Monday. -
-
Just be glad they gave you a later ESD, rather than giving you an earlier one, getting your hopes up and then crushing them by giving you a later date.
-
Guess we all must be getting our Laptops on the same day, or at least they seem to have shipped the same day. I don't think all the systems are built in Malaysia or the US Dell must have a factory in both places because having spoke to a customer rep here in Canada my laptop is being built in Austin Texas.
Finally my laptop is on it's way after waiting for a whole month and trying to figure out when I'm getting my hands on it. It's like Christmas that never comes and you just keep waiting and waiting it drives you batty.
But all this after the sales rep lieing to me about it being shipped on Sept3 where in fact after checking with Purolator i was shipped on the 4th. So I won't receive it until maybe 8th or 9th depending on how fast customs processes the systems destined for Canada.
Wait is almost over, no sigh of relief just yet.... -
Just got an email saying my order has shipped
Strange that I got it this late at night though. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to get through customs.
-
Strangely enough I just got an email telling me that my ESD is delayed until next Friday, when it should have shipped today. It's in boxing already, hopefully they are just exaggerating.
-
Well my delayed ESD was today 9/9 and I went to the Dell site and now I have a delayed, delayed ESD of 9/16 and it actually came up with some thing saying I had to authorize the delay or they would cancel my order. I don't know how all you guys that ordered yours with LED screens etc. after I did got yours already and I am still waiting. Maybe it is because I got mine so cheap they are hoping I will cancel. I bought this mainly to use at work and now my work situation has changed in the month plus I have been waiting and I don't know if I will be able to use it there anymore so I am seriously considering canceling except I got a such a good deal and have a freebie $70 gift card coming for not getting the accessories they used to include and I already bought a new hard drive for it that I have no other use for.
-
I just called today, and after about 3 weeks in the build stage, apparently it's in the kitting stage. Does that mean I have to wait another week or so as it goes through the build stage? Or does the kitting stage usually mean they finally got all the parts together and are going to finish building it asap? My estimated ship date is 2 days from now, and I really hope they will have it built and shipped by the 11th. -
edit: perhaps your notebook never left kitting stage... makes more sense than it going backwards no? -
Is there a pattern with the delaying of shipments if you order via EPP or regular home customer? I ordered mine 8/26, it immediately went to "In Production" (there is no sub-status report such as 'kitting' or 'boxing' or anything) and has a ESD of 9/11/08 but I'm skeptical.
I bought the deal through EPP with the 3/4 year warranty where you get a gift card if you choose the 4 year complete care. -
Also who/where would I speak to about shipping and/or asking about gift cards and whatnot if I don't get any accessories?
-
edit: -
Well got my laptop Monday upon opening the box, to my dismay manuals that were suppose to be in plastic was not, a Software Case that was suppose to hold all the essentials was not there. THe so called sleeve that was suppose to be for the laptop wasn't there. I was afraid to see other things missing but I guess this would make due, I'd rather not ship it back and wait again for a perfect shipment. At least the laptop works great, fast, and I mean fast seems to be on par with my desktop.
Hopefully for you guys the wait isn't much longer...ordered the 6 cell battery to make things lighter when travelling, this 9 cell is huge. -
XPS 1530:
Ordered 5th September, AM delivery date arranged with courier for tomorrow, 11th September. Fantastic service!
Muuuuch better than my previous Studio 1535 order -
-
Well I just got a phone call today and they didn't delay it again YET but they just were informing why it was delayed. It was just as I suspected. It is for the Blu-ray drive. So it is obvious the way it works is they don't save parts for your computer. You just have to be lucky enough for all the parts needed for your computer to be there at the same time. At first it was the battery, then it was the LED screen, then it was the LED bezel, then it was the battery again and now it is the Blu-ray drive and next week when they get the Blu-ray drive in they will probably be out of batteries again. It is a total joke.
-
-
Hmm. So I have a ESD of 9/11/08, today, and it has not changed. However, I'm still in the "In Production - Building" stage. Looks like I'll be delayed.
I have the exact same setup as unprecedent3d except with a 6-cell battery. -
Well my 1530 shipped out yesterday/last night. Dells automated system says the estimated arrival date is tomorrow.
-
Okay well, my XPS 1530 came earlier today... Around 10.30am I think. Brilliant laptop (so far), I've just been customising it all day; installing all my applications I use for work etc, but more importantly, I've been doing it downstairs; I'm not stuck in my office :-D
Fantastico!
With just the one screen, though, I'm so much more appreciative of having multiple monitors with my desktop; sooooo much easier to work with. -
I received an e-mail, my revised ESD is now 10/07/08. I am considering canceling.
-
I just received an e-mail as well telling me it will be delayed, but without an estimated ship date. I'm going to call them tomorrow if my status doesn't change. At this point I've waited long enough to say whatever to another week of waiting, but I'm still going to demand at least a gift card in return for the delays. Monday will be a full month of waiting, and I'm not even sure if it will be ready by then.
-
-
wow man i guess your order hit a lot of the "out of stock" items.
-
Dude I am 8/6 order date and 9/16 ESD and I am betting that is going to be pushed back again. You guys should consider yourselves lucky if they ship on those dates.
-
I'm debating whether I should cancel this: survive with my current laptop until about November and hope the Studio XPS 16 has a decent price.
