I also got the DREADED email today. Originally I was excited, since I signed up for shipping email notification I thought it was the shipping notice. Boy was I wrong. I ordered on 8/26 and had an original Est. Ship date of 9/11 but now have a new Est. Ship date of 10/8.

I thought about calling and threatening to cancel to see if I can get a free gift card or bag or something, but then I remembered that I got one hell of a deal here(Most likely due to an error by the sales rep) and probably won't get anything remotely close anywhwere else. So I will wait patiently for now.

I just checked my order status today, and it says my order esd has been pushed to 10/07/2008. I'm going to give them a call after class today to give myself enough arguing time. This is just ridiculous.

You are getting screwed more than I am, but I still have a right to be angry about this. There are enough people here who had later order dates who got their laptops much sooner than even my original estimated ship date was.

So it looks like everyone is getting pushed to around 10/07 or 10/08 regardless of when you ordered. That is completely screwed up.

unprecedent3d, tell us how the call goes.

It is not everyone. I ordered on 8/30 and mine shipped on 9/10. Everyone who has had their order pushed back had the LED screen, which leads me to believe your delays are due to a shortage in the supply of the LED screens, as I ordered the WUXGA screen instead of the LED.

So I called and they said the LCD is on backorder for the next 8 to 12 business days. I'm pretty sure they'd rather have me just go ahead and cancel the order than wait for the notebook, because the rep kept saying that my order was in a stage where I can cancel, and even in the e-mail it said if I wanted to cancel then I just needed to call a certain number. I asked for some type of compensation for the wait, but the rep only offered me a laptop case, which I already have, or a $25 gift card. I told her that others were getting around $75, but she said that $25 was all she could do. She said she'll give me a call on Monday regarding the status of the order, and I told her that depending on the order status, I might just go ahead and cancel, which she replied that there's plenty of time to cancel if that's what I want. Strange business.

I am still 9/16 so far but I am just waiting for a 10/07 ESD email. Lets see that would be 2 months and two days. I can't believe the system they use. Since I ordered they have had all the parts in stock at one time or another but until I get lucky enough for them to have all the parts in stock at the same time I guess I will continue to wait. I was originally told by the agent my order would ship in about 5 days despite what it said online.

I don't know if I should stay with this, or cancel it and get a new one. I'm very well thinking of getting a new one, but there don't seem to be any good deals out there like this was. I might do a rent a laptop for the time being however. Costco has some decent laptops that are 100% refundable within 90 days. I might do that just while I wait for the Dell.

Exactly in the same boat. I don't want to let this one go so easily especially with the 3 year warranty but I do sort of need one as soon as possible.

Well my 1530 was attempted to be delievered yesterday, but I was at work. I was going to pick it up, but they said it wouldn't be back at the distro center until 6pm, and of course I was going out of town this weekend(left town at 4), so looks like I won't get it until Monday.

Has anyone who has ordered this in August or later have successfully asked and received the extra accessories (earbuds, case, etc...)? Is there no point asking anymore?

I just called in, and was told it's in the boxing stage as well. I'm expecting a call from a rep tomorrow, so I'll confirm it with her. Boxing should mean I could get this within a week right?

It doesn't come with it anymore, but you can still ask for some type of compensation. I tried, and failed, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Assuming there are enough orders to ship them over to the US (I'm assuming you live in the US), then we should be receiving them shortly.

Because most of the recent delays have been due to the LED LCD, and seeing how we are in the boxing stage, this assumes they have finished all M1530's with the LED monitors and that should be enough orders to fly them over.

Hopefully anyway. Tell us how the call from the rep goes!

My order progressed from "build" to "kitting" just today (or is that a backwards step?). I was expecting a delay from the reading I have done here, but maybe it will indeed ship on its original estimated ship date.

Edit: I just called back and I'm in the "build" stage again. I have no idea why I seem to be getting contradictory information from the automated system.

I am waiting to get my new delay date tomorrow. I am wondering if I will get bumped straight back to 10/07 or if I will get the usual 7 day bump. It is funny I just went to the Dell site and configured a laptop the same as mine and got a 10/9 ESD. So if they go ahead and bump me straight back to 10/7 like some of you guys the 40+ days I have already been waiting doesn't mean anything. Someone can just come along today and order and get theirs as soon as I get mine.

I have been watching this board over the past few days with great interest. My system is in Production - Build. I was orignally fuming and ready to cancel when the email with the revised ESD was sent to me, then tried to find a system I liked as much and could not so decided to hold on. I was encouraged by molarman's step forward and now see he has stepped back again. Sigh . . . what a roller coaster!

To my knowledge, "kitting" actually comes before the "build" stage.
The order is Pre-Production, Kitting, Building, Testing, Boxing, Shipping.

Are you sure you are not in the Boxing stage? You seem to have the same revised ESD as I and unprecedent3d have with similar configurations. If not, it would seem they ran out of the 320GB harddrive.

Well it appears that progress is being made, although I still don't know why I went from "build" to "kitting" earlier today. It now is in "testing". Perhaps it will ship on schedule tomorrow.

I am now in the "boxing" stage, so today I have gone from "build" to "kitting" (makes no sense...perhaps a mistake) back to "build" to "testing" and now to "boxing". A 9/16 shipping date is looking more and more likely.

I have also moved to the "boxing stage" on the phone status. Fingers crossed! What seems odd is the est ship date online is still 9/11/08. Has anyone seen this date change or just received the change to ESD via email? TIA

I'm thoroughly pissed. I ordered the M1530 on 8/19 and ESD is on 9/15. However, today I got an email saying it was delayed until 10/09. On the site it still says ESD 9/15 - In Production, and has not been updated to 10/09.

However, when I use the phone order status it says it's boxing... So I don't see why it should be delayed unless they are lying and it's not boxing... When I called CS they said it's delayed and they cannot give me an exact date when it'll ship!!! I hope they will ship it before my birthday in January :(

What's worse, the M1330 seemed to have gone through the same delays. This is ridicules, you'd think they'll learn from old mistakes :(

Believe me, you and many others, including me, are in the same boat. If the phone says boxing, it means it's done building. I was waiting for a phone call from the rep, but after I didn't get it (not surprised), I gave them a call. They say it's boxing, so we have to wait for it to ship from whichever country they built it in, and wait for them to send it to our country, mine being the US. After that, it'll take however many business days your shipping method states. The rep told me I could get it on Friday, but by the latest it'll be next Tuesday.

Now I am confused. I had been told that (at least for US orders) they were all assembled in the US once the parts were received from the far east, and that it would ship from within the US (two possible locations being Austin, Texas and somewhere in Tennessee).

I have been in the "boxing" stage since sometime last night.

I have been in "boxing" for 2 days. This stage "usually" lasts approximately 3 days but with how things have been handled lately for the XPS laptop series, it'll probably be a lot longer.

everest123: I first received the delay notice via e-mail then the website updated with the new ESD about a day or so later.

What is somewhat curious is that last night, when it first went into the "boxing" stage, the automated phone system gave me an estimated shipping date of today (9/16). Today when I call, although the system still notifies me that it is in "boxing", there is no reference to the estimated shipping date (as there was last night). Perhaps this is an indication that they have no idea when it will actually ship. :) :(

They won't change the estimated ship date unless there is an obvious delay. If your laptop was just in the boxing stage, I wouldn't count on it being shipped today. They really have no idea when it will ship exactly, so I as well didn't receiver a estimated ship date from the automated number. Just expect it to be delivered by the beginning of next week.

Well I got my usual 7 day delay today. Went from 9/16 to 9/23. I have finally had enough. I got the best deal on this laptop that I have seen on this board in the month plus I have been here and was upgraded to overnight shipping and a $70 GC for them not shipping with the accessories anymore and I hate to let it go but between waiting this long and a change in my situation at work which means I probably won't really get to use it there which is the main reason I bought this in the first place, I finally decided to forget it. They sent me an email saying I have to approve the delay or they will automatically cancel my order and I am just not going to aprove it. It sucks because I already bought a new hard drive from Newegg and now I have to pay a 15% restocking fee plus shipping to send it back. Funny I have only returned a few things in all my years of internet shopping and this is the second time it was from newegg so I got screwed with the restocking fee. About $25 in this case.

Apparently they have them now because a bunch of us with the LED LCD has moved onto the boxing stage...

somekevinguy, was yours still in the building stage or did it reach the boxing stage?
Seems almost a waste of all that time canceling your order but best of luck to you!

I now too have received the dreaded "your order has been delayed" email. Frustrated, I called customer service and the person I spoke with told me that, according to her records, it is in the "manufacturing" (I think that is the term she used) stage and could not explain to me why their automated system is saying that it is in "boxing" and that it has already made it through testing. She indicated that she expects it to ship within the next 2 - 3 days. The email (according to her) is only an automated email and always sets a new ESD three weeks into the future even if the product is nearing completion. She said these emails get sent out when it is apparent that the original ESD cannot be met, and do not necessarily reflect the actual anticipated shipping date.

I have no idea how accurate this information is, but that is what I was told.

It is has always said it was in the build stage up until the last time I called yesterday. I got another phone call today saying the that Blu-ray drive and web cam were still back ordered. The fact that I literally spent 5+ hours on the phone and online chat and them canceling and placing about 6 orders before they finally got my order and financing straight sucks too let alone the 40+ days of waiting for it.

Perhaps you are correct. My point, however, was to indicate that her information indicated that it has never made it even to "testing" yet, in spite of what the automated system told me. At this point, I (the paying consumer) have no clue where it stands, and even worse, don't know who/what is able to give me accurate information - and that is a sad statement indeed!!!

Furthermore, there may be some truth in what she said - even if only to an extent. I mean, her story seems more logical - "it has not yet been totally assembled so it can't ship on time (today)". That makes more sense than for there to be a significant delay in shipping if it is actually being boxed for shipping.

    What a mess!!!

My order was done 9/2/2008 and my EDD 9/18/2008
    No revised date yet.
Currently still "In Production" (boxing at this point?)
    Ordering for Montreal Canada.

Currently they told me(oddly they were specific about location and all for once):
Rep: Your computer is in transit from Malaysia to Nashville. It should ship from Nashville in 2-3 days. Once it ships from Nashville, it should arrive to Canada in 2-4 days and then 1 day once in Canada.
than he adding something about finish touches in Nashville
So by the 30th given 8 "working" day.

So I guess thats boxing stage

This notebook included the LED screen.

Well I'm guessing you ordered at a good time, because the LED LCDs were back ordered until now. But did you call the automated number to make sure it's in the boxing stage?

:) :) :) :) :) :) :) I guess you are right because today the order status online and phone says that it shipped, though no carrier info yet. I guess the estimated ship date is as molarman said, which is set just 3 weeks forward but doesn't mean it won't ship before. Dell should have said so and I wouldn't have been so upset. Can't wait to get it....

I totally agree. I think it is rather sad that a company selling information technology products has to rely on emails such as these notifying us of arbitrary ESD's. One would think that their system would be a bit more refined than that.

BTW, mine shipped DHL. Customer service was able to give me a tracking number.

I just got my email telling me I have to approve my latest delay or Dell would cancel my order yesterday 9/16 and now this morning 9/17 I got an email telling me my order was canceled. Dell sure doesn't waste any time canceling order after you have been waiting 40+ days for it. I wonder if I really did still want it and I called right now if they would reinstate it or they would tell me I am screwed.

The delay email I received said that no action was required from me unless I wanted to cancel my order. Interesting.
