My first couple of delays were like that too. But when your order is delayed as bad as mine I guess there are actually laws in place. It said that it is required by the Federal Trade Commission that they have my permission to delay my order further. That is pretty bad when you are delayed so long you start bumping into federal laws. My case manager emailed me today about my cancellation and gave the the canned apology for everything again and said she would reinstate my order if I wanted. I told her unless Dell is willing to offer me something significant to compensate me for all of this that I don't want to reinstate the order. If they offer me anything over $100 I would think about it other than that it will stay canceled. I am doubting they will offer me anything though. It is funny how they are having these delays when I am reading stories about how much sales are down and how Dell stock is going down as well.

I apologize yours did not ship! I'm sure it will soon, keep your head up! =)

Actually I was in the habit of calling the automated number a few times a day and to my surprise this time it said it shipped! Never got an e-mail but on the dell website it had my tracking number.

It says mine is shipping from Nashville, Tennessee.

Well I got the email from Dell notifying me that it shipped, but there is no carrier information, tracking number or shipping origination information on the Dell website. I got a tracking number (and thus the carrier) from a CS rep on the phone. However, the tracking number is not yet recognized by DHL. DHL reps say that the tracking number should show up in their system 30 - 60 min after the package has been picked up, but after about 10 hours, it's still a no go.

asus - Does your tracking number show up on the DHL website?

asus - Do you have an address and zip code for Dell in Nashville? DHL is asking me for this when I call them on the phone, but I am unable to comment.

My tracking number is still not in the DHL system. Every time I call DHL on the phone I get a different explanation. The most recent one is that one of 2 things have happened.

    1. Although Del has generated a DHL tracking number, it is still sitting on the Dell dock and has not yet been picked up. If this is true Dell's EDD of 9/19 (Friday) will not come to pass. (BTW, the carrier information and tracking number now appear on the Dell site).

    2. It was one of many systems placed in a larger container, and although the larger container itself has been scanned, the individual items within it have not. If this is the case, I will probably receive it on Friday.

I'm really hoping for #2 as I would like to get this for the weekend!!!

    SHEEESH. What a hassle.

Update: It now shows up on DHL's site and should get here on the 19th - which agrees with Dell's estimate. I'm glad to see that the carrier agrees though.

whoo-hoo! I get to join the shipped club! Just as the rest, mine was shipped 9/17/08 with EDD tomorrow. I am out of town on vaca but thankfully I had it shipped to work, so while I have to wait til Monday at least I don't have to take time off to go pick it up at DHL

asus - whatr is a shinza?

The Shinza ZeroShock III 15" Wide version is a Japanese branded sleeve cover that fits our M1530 pretty well and is protective (water, scratches, and mild bumps). No, I'm not a salesman. I have the 12" for my XPS M1210 and it was pretty good albeit slightly expensive.
I'll definitely get one if Dell doesn't give away the free case anymore.

So it looks like a bunch of orders shipped on 9/17/08. I HOPE it arrives by tommorow (9/19/08) because I have the day off and it would be perfect but I don't want to get my hopes up.

I let them cancel mine more due to my work situation changing than the delays. If I still really wanted it I would have kept it. None of you guys that have had yours shipped had a Blu-ray drive and that is still on back order. I am sure mine still wouldn't have been shipped. They just called me yesterday when all of yours were being shipped and told me. I sent my email after hours yesterday. I will see if my case manager responds with any goodwill offers today that are worth my while. Otherwise I have no regrets.

I got a call saying DHL tried to deliver this morning, but no one was home and they require a signature. So I rerouted the shipping address to my parents' workplace so that they can get it, since I'm at school a 120 miles away from home.

I haven't heard anything from the case manger so far today. I got an out of office reply yesterday. I don't know if that was just because it was after hours yesterday or if she is really out of the office for a few days. As far what I want to do now, I guess move on with my life. I have an existing laptop that works fine for everything except playing games and watching Blu-ray movies. This was just a new toy for me that I didn't really need in the first place. I use my desktop at home 99% of the time. The only time I get use out of my existing laptop is at work and now since I ordered I was moved to a different workgroup where I doubt I will have a chance to use it much anyway so when that got combined with Dells inability to deliver a laptop in a reasonable amount of time, there was enough time for my excitement of a new toy to wear off and realize I had things to do with my money right now. I would have canceled even sooner if I hadn't have already bought the new hard drive for it.

OK here is the latest. My case manager just called me and it is almost as if they read these forums because wouldn't you know it she offered me $100. Exactly what I said it would take to change my mind. So I said fine go ahead and reinstate it. But then as we were wrapping things up I decided I better go ahead an make sure that in this process I wasn't losing the $75 GC I had already been promised for not getting the accessories. Of course she then went into a spiel about how that was for the previous order and this is a new order, yada, yada and then she put me on hold and came back and said because I had already gotten so many discounts there was basically no margin left in my order and the best her supervisor would let her do was give me the $75 GC and another $75 credit. I said OK. Like I said I really don't need this thing anymore but it is still fun to get new toys and I figured I am getting such a ridiculous deal I couldn't pass it up. The only rub is it kind of sounded like it will be entered as a new order so I will lose my place in line but like I said when I built another computer the other day online the ESD was only 10/9 and she again confirmed the Blu-ray is still back ordered so I don't think it will make much difference. I actually can't think of anything I want to buy from Dell with the gift card so I was going to push her for just a $150 credit but was tired of dealing with it. I figure I will also be saving the $30 on restocking and shipping fees with the HD I was going to send back to newegg. Now I just have to wait and see if I get this thing before November.

Just checked in with Dell and was informed of three parts on back order

    1.)LED LCD
    2.)BluRay Drive
    3.)8600m GT

Seems like dell replenished their stock of LED's with all these orders shipping. I really hope they don't run out of LED's again while the other parts are on back order...

I was given a thirteen day lead due to the shortages which pushes me outside of my ESD. Havent gotten an e-mail though so I'm still a little hopeful.

8600m GT being backordered seems like a good thing. Seems like that would mean we would definitely be getting new chips.

    Hey Guys!!

I finally placed the order for the M1530!! YAY!! :D
A big THANKS to Cin, fonduekid and Rhodan for helpin me with all my endless queries! ;)

    Here's the final config..
    Processor - Intel C2D T9300-2.5Ghz/6mb Cache..
    Ram - 3GB..
    Video Card - 8600M GT-256mb..
    Hard Drive - 250GB-5400rpm..
    Display - 1440x900-LCD..
    O.S - Vista Home Premium..
    Optical Drive - DVD Writer..
    Battery - 6 Cell..
    Warranty - 1yr..
    Colour - Tuxedo Black..
    Intel Wireless-N Mini-Card..
    Dell Nylon Backpack..

Estimated Delivery Date - 7 to 10 business days..
I don't have the order no. with me, therefore cant check the actual delivery date on the website.. Will do it 2moro!

    About the ordering process..
I tried to haggle, actually, I tried to haggle a lot!! But man the CSR's here in India are stubborn!! I was juggling around with 5 different CSR's since yesterday, and today itself I answered around half a dozen calls from each of them! Tried all the techniques listed in Les's awesome thread, but had no luck! None of the CSR's were willing to offer me any sort of discount or free upgrade!!
So finally I contacted my faithful 'computer guy' (who happens to be the major I.T Hardware dealer here in Goa), and asked him whether he could get me a better deal for the M1530!
Within an hour he called back sayin that the best he could do was get me a 100$ discount! Which was gr8, considerin the fact that the CSR's weren't ready to leave out a single dollar!
He also told me to stick with the 3gb ram, coz the 4gb upgrade via Dell costed 52$, whereas doin it myself l8r on wud cost me around 22$!

So the final price for the laptop came to 1456$!!
Since everythin sounded pretty good, I told him to go ahead with the order.. The best part is, I dint have to pay him immediately! He said I could pay after I recieved my lappy! :D

So thats how the ordering process went... Wasted the entire day for it, but I gotta say, it was and (hopefully :D ) will be worth it!!

And now comes the hard part! Waitin for the lappy to arrive!!
I was at a book store last week(searchin for the latest issue of maxim.. :p ), and came across a Pregnancy book entitled "What to Expect when ur Expecting..."....
God, I wish they had somethin lik that for laptops! :p :D

To piggy-back off your thread, here's my story...
I ordered a Studio 17 last week well discounted through USA DPA program, but decided to cancel (which I did) and instead order a 15.4" laptop. With current promotions on XPS units right now, I can buy an M1530 similarly equipped to a Studio 15 for prox same cost. Right now, I've got both configs saved in my DPA cart and will order one of them later today. Please take a look and let me know if there is consensus that the M1530 is an overall better laptop for similar (actually less) cost than Studio 15.

    TIA
    Jeff

So I received mine this morning and no free laptop case or earbuds etc... except for the media remote. Eh. Good enough.

Anybody know how to check on my warranty because there is no warranty information with my package?

My custom specced M1530 was in the final stage (delivery) within 72 hours of ordering, maybe I'm just lucky?

Apparently we get our Dells faster in the UK as we have the Irish assembly plant here.

    Ordered 17/9, EDD was 1/10

Hey Nik.. Why couldn't you try to get the XPS from US. It's much cheaper in the States than in India. That's how I'd done. But it's a gr8 lappie mate. And with Far Cry 2 to be released soon :D :D :D

Well, my friend...I don't think that your wait is going to be long...according to your estimate of 7-10 days!! I think that will go by fast for yah! ;)

Although your proximity to the production plant is surely a factor, it is still the particular specs you chose, and the availability of components that will ultimately determine your delivery date.

Mate, whom did you buy it from? How can you pay after the laptop is delivered. I have never heard of post delivery payment from Dell, unless you ordered it from a Local dealer.

I just ordered my lappy yesterday.

Yea i ordered from a local dealer.. a close friend of mine..
the difference is, its not a pre-configured system lik wht u mostly get with other local dealers..
i got to choose my components, and plus, lik i said in my first post, that friend of mine managed to get me a good deal thru his contacts.. the 'post delivery payment' is just my friend's goodwill.. lol.. :D
yeah if Dell provided COD facility, it wud hv been gr8! :p

wht config did u order mate? oh and, congrats!!

So I did my morning order status check and waited to hear ..."build stage" but to my surprise I've moved on to the boxing stage!

So here's hoping it gets here soon!

I am still just waiting for my new reinstated order to show up on my account. Also I see Samsung has a 500GB 7200 RPM drive out now. If only I wouldn't have known how long this computer was going to take, I wouldn't have ordered my new HD yet.

Woot!! My laptop is now in boxing stage.... btw, I know I read somewhere here that boxing stage usually takes 3-4 days.. however, I just got a call from a Dell rep telling me that my laptop should ship tomorrow (TUES) or on WED. Is this unlikely?

Got it on the 23rd at 9am, totalling 6 days from order to delivery. It's got an LG screen too.

Extremely pleased with Dell and Walsh Western (Dell's UK courier company). The laptop's pretty amazing too!

Only complaint so far is the McAfee rubbish that automatically installs itself as soon as you connect to the internet.
