***XPS M1530 Order Status Thread***

This makes sense. My order did not include the AGN card and was built and shipped in 3 days. Beware modifying your order. In this case it may be faster, but I've never actually heard of them modifying an order without starting the whole order process over again.

 

Hi trancekr. Yours did not have the wireless A/G/N? Because I'm surprised yours shipped so fast. I ordered on Jan.5 and still haven't heard any good news. The order status shows "In production" ever since. My configuration is exactly as yours but since someone here has mentioned the A/G/N thing I just want to compare with you so see if this is indeed the reason of the dealy. Thanks.

 

Mine has been in build since mid/late last week and I did order a B/G/N card

 

So what are the stages that it has to go through?

1. Mine now is "In Production" (been this way since day 1)

What should I be expecting next?

 

On the website it will just go from In Production to Shipped. However In production is made up of things like, kitting, build, testing and boxing, in that order. If you call the automated order status you can get this detailed order status. I'm not sure if this is up to date information, but this was how it was a while back. Boxing is actually shipping from China and usually takes from 1 to 3 days depending on what shipment group you fell into, but there are always possibilities of any stage being slowed down by something.

 

Thanks for the info! I just did (call the automated order status line) and found out that my order is in the "build" stage. Is that a good sign or should i not be getting my hopes up? Do you know how long it usually takes form this point till it ships?

 

It's hard to say. It seem like this is the stage where people are recently stuck. However, mine went in one day from Build to Shipped. Lucky me, at the last second I had my order changed to remove the AGN card, since I already have a Broadcom N card.

 

yeah, that is definitely the "N" thing that is causing the delay. I placed my order way before yours- exact same configuration- but with the wireless n (unlike you apparently). See they dont tell you what is that actually causes the delay...Had I known that this is the reason I would have removed that since I myself have an n card.

Who figures a company like Dell (which building computers is ALL they do) can run out of parts?

 

jcamdog the tech told you there WAS a shortage (as in not anymore)? If this continues did he tell you when they expect to get new supplies of this part?

 

This UPS wait is sickening. They are long overdue with this delivery. I'm going to call in a while to fleck them up.

 

Got mine! Yeah! I extended my lunch period as long as I could get away with and went home, and by chance, DHL came during that period. Hoping you all get yours soon.

 

Just to update:

I called Dell today, and they couldn't get me a lower deal on the laptop price, so I'm keeping the same order. It still says 'build' stage. My delivery date is 1/22, i'll start to look for consideration over the weekend if its still in the build stage.

 

Well looks like I'm back at square one. UPS "lost" my 1530. Basstardssss

The screen is questionable (DP: RP636, 1280x800, Samsung) but everything else looks in order... getting sound was XP harder than expected (tip: don't use the setup app! go into device manager and install it that way!)

Jan 16: Tech came and fixed trackpad, refused to fix screen
Jan 17: On its way back to Dell

 

I had no problems getting sound on XP, what problem are you having?

this means your machine has been put together and if being tested for quality. After this comes boxing, where it is shipped to your country, and then final shipping. You're rounding the corner and heading home!

IT also makes me somewhat happy, as yours was ordered on the same day as mine with a similar configuration. Hopefully i'll get mine before the holiday weekend.

 

well, as i read here most of people gets theirs laptops very fast and i am woundering if it is just in the states them have so fast delivery, or just me thats not lucky. Its just so that i ordered my on the 9/1 and in orderstatus page its says that calcylated delivery date is 29/1 and my order is still in stage 2, preproduktion. Is it just longer delivery in europe?

 

Not sure about the delivery dates in Europe. But not everyone gets their order early. I ordered mine 2 weeks ago according to the website it is in 'production' and should ship on the 21st or January, but according to the 1800 number i called it is in 'pre-production' and should be shipping on the 4th of February. So i decided if it does not arrive by Monday, then i will look elsewhere for a new Laptop, if they cannot get that straight i would hate to see what they would do if i had to get it fixed. Needless to say it has been a crappy experience with this and between this and all the new parts that are bad with a PC build i am doing, i wonder why i work in the IT field at all.

My 1530 was ordered thru EPP on 1/4
And, still in "Build Stage" on 1/11 -
Dell EPP Support called me in the evening on 1/11 stating "there was a problem w/the sku on the Wireless N card" affecting orders, and would have to cancel the order & "refresh". "They would also need my DPA account number to clear account & re-enter order again".

Order would be same, nothing would change "stet" per se.

Today, status on automated phone line- Still in "Build Stage". Status online is "in pre-production". Which totally confuses me!!!!

Instead of original shipping date of 1/21 (from original order date of 1/4), it is now 1/28, and instead of overnight delivery ~ it is now 3-5 days.

The rep was supposed to expedite the shipping back to the original estimated shipping date of 1/21, and expedite back to overnight shipping. And, contact me when this was complete, by e-mail and phone. She has yet to do this. I'm now sure how long it take's to expedite shipping takes?

She was supposed to follow-up w/me on 1/14!!! So, I will let it stand until 1/15 ~ I guess.... Lack of followup by customer service can annoy me.

 

Called again to get the update on my system. The representative looked into my order and found that the backordered A/G/N wireless card had been filled. He did note that the WSXGA+ screen was also backordered and still waiting to be added to the machine, and that this was the last part to be added to the laptop (Which makes sense on an assembly line). He guaranteed a call back tomorrow with an update on it, and stated that the original delivery date was still good.

I've noticed i get the best CS experiences when I speak with the indian representatives as opposed to the american reps. Much more attention to detail.

 

I ordered on 12/27 and it was delivered one week later.
I have no complaint whatsoever about the product nor the delivery system.

 

Are the estimated ship times on Dell's website accurate? They claim my approximate ship date is the 23 of January. I do see though that when I ordered it claimed my LCD screen has a 5 day delay, you think that's included in this approximate date?

 

The estimates are accurate to the degree that they usually aren't late, and usually are a couple days early. The part delays mentioned in the configuration will be factored into the predicted shipping date. You can actually see the shipping date change when you select or deselect parts that have delays.

 

my M1530 was ordered on 05/01/08, EDD was 24/01/08, on 13/01/08 it moved from pre production to dispatched all in one go and actually turned up 16/01/08, sadly it was DOA and I'm now waiting for a replacement, kinda makes you wonder if they just decided to skip the whole testing stage.

I doubt it, mine was ordered on the 4th of this month and it is in the boxing stage today. estimated ship day from original order is the 21st, looks like it will hit the mark or be shipped today, but not a week early, like 2 days if i am lucky.

 

Well friday has come and gone and it is still in boxing. So maybe Monday it will ship (that is the ship due date)

Update:LoJack received - DHL delivered - left package w/no signature!!! Stated - Signature release on file???? Hmmm....I don't recall EVER signing for anything w/DHL....Luckily, my neighbor was home & is going to keep for me until I am able to get it from him tonight.
1530 & printer are being delivered now - tracking # is temporarily unavailable!! estimated delivery date 1/22/08 - hoping that DHL doesn't leave these at my door, also

i also ordered it on the 19th and the phone system says it's on it's way to the shipping carrier. the website on the other hand says that my lo jack has shipped but the laptop is in production.

today I received an email telling me that part of the order was shipped, and I was so happy ... until I found out that it's the Computrace LoJack that was shipped, not the actual laptop ... (I ordered mine on 1/18)

yep, same thing happened to me. 2 days after order i got an email saying it was shipped...only to find it was the lojack. i was ready to call out record timing...but

anyway....ordered 1/17, still estimated shipping of 2/4...currently in the testing stage

strange thing happened:
i called yesterday around 6pm and it was in the testing stage right
called around 11 pm and it went BACKWARDS...into the build stage
got worried...then called this morning around 8 am and it was back in the testing stage....

has this happened to anyone else?

i wonder why it did that....did they find something wrong with mine and go back and fix it maybe....i know you all won't really know the answer....just thought I'd let u all know....

Hi, my estimated shipping date is 2/4 too But how do you know which stage is it in now? Cos when I look it up online they just say it is "in production". Do I have to call the Customer Service for that info? Thanks.

Edit: nevermind, I called the number on page 2 and found out my XPS 1530 is in the boxing stage. Should be shipped soon

Mine is estimated for 08/02 (UK dates!).

Although I've had a change of heard about the HDD and have asked them to bump it up a grade.
