I finally asked for compensation today (ordered July 8th) and politely explained that I ordered my laptop so early because I wanted time to use it a bit before school and that it seemed like I wasn't even going to get it FOR uni. The rep told me that they don't give compensation for lost time. Boo.

Dell Canada too, by the way.

After waiting a week for a reply on an email I sent to Dell, I was told that Dell doesn't give compensations for production delays but since I ordered Alpine white I should get it this week. It's nice to know that after waiting for a week for what seems to be an automated reply, I obviously get mixed up with another client... Makes me feel so special

alot of you, seem to be getting alot back from dell. But i cant seem to get my sales rep to budge. Are you getting compensation from the sales rep's or the customer service? What are the tricks to getting a better deal?

    I have already used:
    $219 Instant Savings + $325 Coupon = 400 off somehow???
$9 off for a dell preferred account
7% off for Complete care plus.

I have some legitimate grievances though,

    >the particular print ad model i'm buying comes standard with the colored back panel. but the colored back panels delay your ship date and my rep wont give me any compensating for downgrading to the matte black.

    >I have heard the IR remote comes free with a lot of peoples systems. How do you accomplish that? my rep wont budge on that either.

    >and i still dont understand how people are getting the upgrade to wireless N for free?

Kayos..Good Job!!!!! Its nice to see others with success like that.

As for people in the same situation as LocalmotionSC, do you always get put back to the same CSR? Can you not call and speak with another?

I really feel foolish because the only thing I got was free next day shipping. I ordered my dell through our employee purchase program (EPP) and ended up saving about $400 right off the bat. I guess I should have complained more and got some free accessories or discounts.

I know when I placed an order using a $150 off coupon, I only ended up get $128.40 off instead of the whole $150. I pointed this out to the rep and he said that's what the price adjustment came out to be, so there wasn't anything he could do. So I called up customer care and explained this to them and they arranged to credit me the difference after it ships. What I am saying to you is, if you only got $400 off instead of the whole discount, which is what I am assuming you are curious about since you said it only came to $400, just call up customer service, explain to them what happened, tell them about the coupon and discount you were supposed to receive but didn't get the entire amount, and they should be able to help you.

When I ordered, I got one of the discounts (about $200 off). Adding the $300 couple that was available at the time would have overwritten the $200 discount, as those deals don't stack.

When I ordered, I forgot to enter the online coupon ($300). I rebuilt the system online, and saw that I would only save $100 when using the coupon, but called anyway. I told the CSR that I wanted to add a coupon. When he added the coupon, it stacked! I saved $300, instead of $100. That is the reason I haven't canceled my order over these delays. I actually got a better deal than I was supposed to ($200 better than the best online coupon). That is also why I also haven't asked for a free bag (which I need), as I don't want to get TOO greedy =)

it took me FOREVER calling dell up and chatting online, i eventually responded to one of those logged call sessions and a case manager got back to me saying I can get the messenger bag of my choice for my 1520, so i got the chocolate/tourmaline to match my blue lid.... but i also included the part # for the VX nano just in case =). the timbuk2 bag is too small for my 1520, says it only holds 14" laptops

If you keep talking to the sales rep and the sales rep won't budge, STOP TALKING TO THAT SALES REP. If you haven't ordered yet, start over with a new sales rep. If you have ordered, others can correct me if I'm wrong, but you shouldn't even be talking to the sales rep in the first place- go to customer service.

LocalMotionSC-- For me I placed my order with CSR, and was able to stack coupons. I'm also on my third delay, and when I speak with them I am polite and courteous. If the CSR I'm talking to and I don't 'click' I don't have a problem asking if there's someone else I can talk to who may be able to assist me better, or simply ending the conversation politely and calling back. Here's how my conversation today went.. "I know it must be very difficult for you to have to deal with all of the frustrated customers who must be calling in right now because of the unexpected delays in these systems. I personally have been a dell customer for many years, and order a new system almost every year, and this is the worst experience I've had with Dell. Do you know if there is anything Dell is offering in order to make these delays more comfortable for its customers?" i was put on hold for about five minutes, and then the CSr came back and asked if I'd be interested in a $100 concession coupon after my system shipped. I said that'd be great, but I'd rather have something credited back to my account, and thats when I got the $75 credit.

flamenko---hey thanx! i admit reading your posts about getting comps, and it has helped. particularily shopping CSR's. esp. here in the states. i'm almost not minding the delays now, lol. don't get me wrong, i want my lappy! but the comps do make it much easier to wait.

I tried to get a Belkin messenger bag from the CSR in a chat. He said that they were not providing any messenger bags for delay compensations. I am not sure if I should try actually calling? Or should I give up since my machine I think is going to make the second ESD date.

Managed to talk my way into a 5% discount... about 55$ after the CSR told me that my laptop isn't even in production yet and not goingto enter until September 1st. And I got the CSR to get his supervisr to contact me tomorrow...
I made my point on the fact that they advertise their laptop for bck to school and that I won't get mine before school starts.

Ordered the $1499 EPP bundle with the printer and 3 year extended warranty. Cancelled the printer first for a credit of $106.31. Called the next day and was assured by a CSR that the warranty can be cancelled..it was just a matter of being transferred to the "correct" department. After being transferred 5+ times, I finally reached the "correct" department, and they shot me down. I asked to speak to a manager, but got transferred to customer care instead. They looked up my case from when I was told that I would be able to receive a credit for the warranty, and eventually gave in. My total comes to $106.31 (printer) + $657 (warranty) + free upgrade to next day shipping. I have no idea where the $657 came from. I was expecting ~$250-300 for the warranty, but I'm not complaining!

Edit: Today I was able to get a free Timbuk2 messenger bag.

After I read this thread, I called dell on 8/21 after my order had been delayed to 8/28. I got the free NSD but asked if I could get any other compensation since I heard of others being given credit. He was very friendly and talked to his manager, came back saying to call back after I received my laptop to see what they could do.

This morning since the automated order status phoneline was still not working, I logged on to chat just to get an update on my 8/28 status. After confirming the 8/28 shipping date (which I doubt) she commented that it was a very long wait and automatically gave me a $50 credit. I didn't complain or ask for anything. Weird, but I'll take it. After it gets delayed again I'm sure I can get more compensation.

yup they said if mine was delayed anymore then I would get a call and they would try to give me something. the guy i spoke with today was one of the nicest csr's his name was Abninder. He actually ordered a compensation for me and provided me with a order number. on the 8/21 delay the guy I spoke with just said that I would have the compensation that i asked for no order number or anything. Even though dell sucks this guy made my day.

OK- not quite finished with the process, but I think I have a pretty good idea what my final tally will be. I ordered a 1720 on 8/4 with a sticker price of $1584; I used the standard $300 off coupon coupled with a $50 off provided by another NBR forums poster to bring it down to $1234. I've secured credits of $15, $25 and $100 to bring the pre-tax price down to $1094 as well as a free 926 AIO printer.

I'm trying to get a free IR remote as well, but the CSRs I'm dealing with don't seem to fully understand what that is. Still, I'm pretty happy with the outcome.

Seriosuly how are Dell still making money? they seem to give **** away for nothing. So far after talking to 4 reps and playing 1 of against another i managed to get £110 incl VAt dicount as well as Free shipping at £60 so total of £180. which is sweet considering it got me the ideal spec i was after with 2 year warranty for an afforable price. However i got a quote atm valid for 7 days and im worried that if i keep pushing the sales rep that they are going to turn around and 'mark me' and cancel the quote.

I know i can push for a free case £25 because i did it earlier even though i wasn't given documenation, im going to be ordering tomorrow most likely so im going to charm the **** out of the sales rep girl or guy :p All the ones ihave spoken to are foriegn, I dont even know if there are sales reps in Britian but would do you think i they would put me through to one in Britian if i asked the secetary?

As i got pretty much the spec i wanted i was thinking of getting some more accessories but i have very little to bargain with, i may go to customer service after i order and state i wasn't told of any delays and see how that goes. Bit of bending of the truth but he who dares wins.

After the initial NSD upgrade (weeks ago), I was able to get a free Timbuk2 bag today. I swear, dealing with Dell is like a bad relationship:

    Me: That's it, I'm leaving.
    Dell: But I'll try harder.
    Me: I've heard that before.
Dell: What if I gave you next day shipping?
Me: For all my heartache, you give me next day shipping?
Dell: It's all I can do.
Me: It's just not enough to make it worth it.
Dell: What about a timbuk2 bag?
    Me: Okay, I'll stay.

I don't want any compensation(they did give me free next day shipping and it shows on my account)

but im not all into the whole "trying to get something for free wagon" i consider that "Social Engineering" and dishonesty(not calling anyone here dishonest) im just saying such tactics are against my religion

look..i see it like this...you bought the notebook, regardless...if you got thesr things or not, besides Dell has given me enough free stuff...i got Free 160GB Hard drive, Free 2GB memory upgrade and Free Windows Vista business Edition(in my opinion the only version of Vista worth anything)

Ultimate? ha im running Ultimate right now, and it is not worth it and here is why

    Windows Vista Business: http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=en-us&p1=11707&x=6&y=14
Mainstream Support retired 4/10/2012(Support through Microsoft)
Extended Supprt retired 4/11/2017(will get Windows Updates/Service Packs and Hotfixes until then)

    Windows Vista Ultimate http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=en-us&p1=11734&x=10&y=10
    Mainstream Supprt:4/10/2012
Extended Support NOT APPLICABLE(This means no Windows Updates after 2012 which is 5 years...that sucks..

Windows XP Pro will receive Windows Updates until 2014( http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=3223)

so as you can see the free upgrade to Vista business is a much better option that Ultimate. plus Vista Business allows Complete PC Backup/Restore...only the Business and Ultimate editions allow that...Vista business is = to XP Professional..mean for business use...the only thing Ultimate has over Vista is Media Center(will just use Media player for all of that, an over-rated feature) and Bitlocker(not needed because Vista Business comes with EFS(Encrypting File System) and you need TPM(Trust Platform module 2.0 built into the motherboard to use Bitlocker effectively) and most PC's/Notebooks don't come with it

So if you can. get XP Pro or Vista Business with your Laptops...the supprt is important...Microsoft will treat you like they treat small business when you clal them if you have a business edition of their product the support is much better and much more extended than home versions(Ultimate is considered a Home Version) i have Ultimate, and if i had it to do over again i would have gotten Business for my PC...luckily i got a Free Upgrade to Vista Business from Dell

    they have given me enough

You say that you do not want any compensation but in the class action thread i read that you may possibly make a case against them. If you do surely you will be compensated also or will you solely just be making a case against Dell out of principle?

Some people do have very bad experiences with Dell and in my opinon definetly deserve some kind of compensation from Dell. I am not just talking about late deliveries here.
Also though even Dell has offered all their customers compensation in the past before for extreme late shipping times.

I will only make a Case(Lawsuit) against Dell under the follwing circumstances

    1. If i don't receive the Product I ordered.

2.I ask for a refund and get stuck with taxes and other fees(which i will not pay)

so pretty much if they delay me much longer, and i cancel...as long as they wipe off all the charges off my account, i'll let bygones be bygones so to speak

but there are "others" that are way more effected by this than i am...and would probably have legitimate reasons to sue i would suppose

im just saying i don't want any "compensation"
in the ways of freebies or credits..i just want the product i purchashed..i have told CSR atleast 3 times this week..i have turned down 2 100 dollar credits, a free bag, and 2 50 dollar Dell coupons..i told them the same thing i said here "i don't want no freebies i just want the product i ordered"...thats it really, thats all i want

now granted when i bought this computer i "Bargained" with the Sales rep..(The Memory and Hard Drive were allready included) i called and bargained with a Sales Rep and for the Vista Business offer i got which he gave to me due to being a Loyal customer for a long time

but other than that, i just want what i paid for, nothing more, nothing less

Woody 79_00 I did read that you would possibly sue Dell and get some compensation if you do not get your computer before you start your studies. Basically you will be getting compensated if you do this still but it won't just be through Dell. Some people have just accepted Dell's compensation for their troubles.
    Thanks for explaining though.

Fine if you dont want money back its up to you, but look at it as if someone in the street gave you £10 you can either keept it, refuse it or give it to charity. Obviosuly dell can afford it so why not accept and give to charity?

Agreed. Before ordering, I dealt with a phone CSR who rather artlessly lied in order to pressure me to use a Dell Preferred account rather than my credit card- when I mentioned the standard $300 off $1299 coupon code that I had used to configure a system online, she repeatedly tried to convince me that the only way the coupon could be used (either over the phone or online) was if I put the purchase on my Dell account. After I hung up with (on) her, I dashed off a polite but very detailed complaint to Dell via email; it took them a couple of weeks, but they came back with an offer of $100 and a free printer as an apology.

As for Woody, I don't mean to be rude, but your position- as I've been able to make it out from your posts- is somewhat morally incoherent. You make it sound like you feel it's unreasonable for people who've waited months for a product that was promised to be delivered within a couple of weeks have no right to petition Dell for compensation while stating that if they get anything wrong with your order, you'll sue them. I don't think that merits too much analysis.

Just rec'd a third ESD from Dell for my second Laptop. Only had two delays for the first one I ordered.

They are offering plenty of compensation for a company that has a pretty narrow profit margin. My biggest complaint is that the sales rep SHOULD have warned me BEFORE I completed the sale. They’ve given plenty of opertunities to cancel but for the price I paid (and now the credits) I can’t beat this price at any of the electronic stores.

Still using my old desktop for college work but the laptop sure would be nice.

Called, said I was ready to cancel.
Escalated to a supervisor, he immediately offered $125 credit after it ships if I don't cancel...
So that, plus free next day shipping, plus the $100 coupon...
Guess I'll wait one more week.

I ripped DELL a new one. Their lame technical department don't know that they are giving GDDR2 in 8600M, and not GDD3, and it is actually their decision, and I have to stick by it (they even tell this to us on their webpage while we are configuring). So I said I feel cheated, they said they'll compensate! :D What should I ask for? My shipping is already paid for.

Next, I'm planning to ask for compensation regarding the 5400 RPM hard-disk. The second Customer Care I talked to (after the GDDR2/3 one) promised me compensation for that as well.

Then, ofcourse there'll be delays as well! :)

So, what should I ask for???? Carry bag? Wireless headset? Wireless optical mouse? All of these 3? Something else????

CREDIT! Better to have them give you money back to spend as you please than to get something you only marginally want.

You get the credit only if you have a credit card, isn't it? :( I don't have one. I will have it later this year when I get a job. :(
