If you don't know what you want than get money back, they should give you money back the way you paid for it, credit card or debit card.

They should be able to credit you in whatever form you paid- if you paid with a check, they should give you a check. If you paid with herring, they should give you herring. That may be easier said than done, though- it might be more difficult for them to cut a check than to just issue a credit via card. Can't hurt to try asking for a credit, though.

I paid via cheque. Will it affect my order? I mean, will it delay it if they agree to credit me via cheque? I am being offered around $300+ right now.

refund should effect your order, they normally issue the refund same time you get your laptop, so by time its cleared it will be like delievery day +5.

After speaking to a sales rep for an hour I managed to get a free mouse for my Vostro 1500 - that's it. He told me that due to the high demands in the UK and the low price they couldn't go down any further. Should I just try with someone else?

Yes. Ask for her manager and explain your situation calmly. I was geting only a 1-year warranty with CompleteCover. I talked to the girl's manager, and he gave me another GB of RAM and a CarryCase, just for the delay.

My compensation changed. Well I asked them to change it.

Now, I received a 2 GB RAM upgrade (today morning). I ordered 2 GB (2x1024) with my initial order. Due to the delays, they said they'll upgrade my RAM. They gave me two 2 GB RAM modules as a compensation (2x2048). It is worth Rs 25,637 right now ($600).

I got a DELL bag as well, the big one (for my 1720). It costs about Rs 4000 ($90 appx).

All in all, it makes about Rs 30,000 ($690) as compensation, on a notebook worth Rs 72725 ($1700 appx). Not bad? :)

Also, I get to keep the RAM that came with the notebook (2x1024) with me as well. I don't think I'll sell it though. It is worth Rs 3869 ($90 appx) as well.

I was told that I would be given a RAM upgrade. So I told them to take a 1 GB stick back, and give a 2 GB stick to me, thus making my system have 3 GB of RAM (1x1024 + 1x2048). But the person mailed me that he is sending two 2 GB sticks and a carry case! I got it today (I was thinking that because he was from Customer Care, he didn't know much and hence gave me wrong information about 2x2048 RAM being sent my way). So I opened the package from FedEx, and damn!

I don't have to even consider upgrading RAM, or think about many programs being run at the same time now as long as I have this machine! :D I even removed Windows Virtual RAM from the properties! :D The RAM is being shown as 3582 MB (due to my 32 bit OS). I'll take it. :) And the carry case rocks as well.

What do I do with the other 2 GB of RAM (2x1024) now useless for me? If I try to sell it, how much would it fetch me? (I won't probably, I'd rather give it to my girl-friend, so that her "Internet Downloader" (IE  ) runs fast). :D

I was congratulating the guy, not boasting or discussing my deal whatsoever.

But since you hopped in, your thread is old news but a good price for a bare bones system (low processor/ram/HD and warranty) Add up the total value of your system and then, let us know what you saved. I saved 2500 on this system alone....and then through this same deal, I got this beautiful Dell E228WFP HDMI 22" monitor for just over 50 bucks...

Is there some trick to getting stuff. I mean, I've been waiting 66 days, and they haven't offered me anything for waiting. I would be happy with whatever they offer, even if it's something that doesn't really matter. It's the thought that counts. Although, I would really be happy with a mouse or something.

    ASK!

They're not going to "offer" you anything. It sounds like you are more than entitled to compensation, but they're not going to approach you out of the blue with it.

I've found that if you're willing to be patient, email works best. I've obtained credits of $15, $25, $100 and a free printer via email persistence, and I've just been informed that an IR remote is on the way as well. Funny thing is that the IR remote was the only thing I asked for in the first place- the first credit I received, $15, was based on asking for the remote and stating that it was merely a $15 item.

Yeah, ok. So, I never directly asked for free stuff. I hinted at the idea, but never directly asked them. I figured if I asked, the Dell people would be like "Oh, sure 'we'll' give you free stuff" and then 'accidentally' hit the cancel button on my order. A bit paranoid? Probably. But I think I'll make my mother ask, she's good at that stuff.

I don't understand, why would Dell cancel your order? It should be the other way around, they should fear you cancelling your order. Because that's why Dell loses money.

    57 Days and counting …

“They” canceled my Order!? Said it was a configuration conflict (coulda-said-that-2-months-ago) however … after three hours on the phone with every Dell Customer Service rep, they finally got it reordered, exactly the same as the first one.

They threw in $150 credit after shipping and an extra year warranty as compensation. I’ll take it!

I got my screen changed twice to get rid of the grainyness, but no luck.

IMO verybody that wastes CSR's time trying (and possibly succeeding) in getting "stuff for free" or "money off" and not actually deserving it, is just increasing wait times (on hold and for systems) for those of us with legitimate issues as well as causing an increase in the price of systems that the rest of us pay....oh I forgot, we are living in a "me" driven society and really couldn't give a s@#t about the next guy...should probly rename this thread "who whined the most to get it for nothing" like I said IMO

Soooooo... you gamed the system by cancelling and reordering because Dell annoyed you. In terms of self-interestedness, this differs from contacting CSRs for compensation how, exactly?

Apropos to nothing, I got my free IR remote yesterday.

anyone wanna help me out with this one.

ordered a 1520, was delayed, finally got it, LCD was burnt out. talked to them, they sent a replacement and free overnight shipping. didnt ask for any compensation, i was happy with overnight shipping.

now i just got the replacement, and the HD is extremely noise and never stops. The blue light on the right side is one 24/7. the cd drive is even noiser when a cd is in there (plastic against plastic vibration noise), and only goes away when pressure is applied.

im going to talk to them tomorrow but does anyone have any advice as to what i should ask for etc

A quick question, has anybody gotten anything back who has ordered from Sweden? Or Scandinavia? Or Europe? :)

Also, is "the system I ordered was £300 cheaper when it shipped - 3 DAYS LATER" a valid claim to go to customer support with?

i got another $100 credit for dhl shipping my replacement ground instead of next business day like it was stated on dell's site. Wasn't trying to ask for anything, I was just calling to see if they could correct the problem so I could get it the next day, and the rep offered me a $100 coupon for the inconvience. I asked if I could get it as a credit instead since I usually forget or don't find anything to use the coupons for and he said sure. That brings my total to around $1140 for my the system in my sig plus I'm waiting on $75 in coupons.

Here's my deal, see what ya think...

Midnight Blue 1520 vista home premium
    - T7300, 8600GT, 160gb 7200rpm hdd, 2 gig ram, wireless N, bluetooth, webcam, dvd-rw, wxga+, 9 cell battery, 3 years warranty with accidental damage...
    - (2) 926 printers, both with cables, and one with a 3 year warranty, and a Logitech V220 wireless mouse

Total of everything after taxes and with next day shipping was $1433.10. I felt it was an awesome deal, and i got the second printer cause my girlfriend needed one and i got it for free anyway. I'm not even sure if i can remember everything i got back but i will try...

EPP discount, 15% off coupon bought on ebay for 2 bucks, 2 50 dollar credit back, 1 100 dollar coupon, next day shipping (what a joke!?), and then they gave me the 2nd printer/cable and the mouse for free!

How does this compare to everyone else??

“They” canceled my Order!? Said it was a configuration conflict (coulda-said-that-2-months-ago) however … after three hours on the phone with every Dell Customer Service rep, they finally got it reordered, exactly the same as the first one.

They threw in $150 credit after shipping and an extra year warranty as compensation. I’ll take it!

I ordered a Vostro 1700 on the 27th of August, and expected delivery date has been delayed to the 18th of October. That's 52 days, almost 2 months. Do you think I can request a coupon?

Yes of course you can. Call and talk politely, openly and calmly to the CSR and ask how he or she would feel in your shoes. See my article below with respect to getting money back.
