I think the P870KM1 with a single 1080 Ti and vapor chamber heatsink definitely has the power to do it. But considering that's the sole on I'm confident is capable of it, I don't know if that's enough for Nvidia to make a new chip for laptops if they'll only sell a very very small number.

There will be no nVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080Ti for laptops...ever. NVIDIA is reserving it for desktops only.

Crazy though...NVIDIA put so much emphasis into the concept that laptop and desktop GPU’s were now essentially the same...finally...only to introduce the 1080Ti and create the separation again.

Dang. Just dang. So I guess the 1080Ti was too hot and power hungry for laptops. Still sad, though.

Agreed...sad. However no telling about heat and power...they just are never going to create one.

    He is a reseller Sager/Midas.

He can't link to a source like that as it would be an NDA'd source...

It makes sense, the way we are heading Titans will be lowering their power consumption to acceptable levels in a couple gens. Probably will add it in then.

Right now like 2 laptops could hold a 1080 Ti, they wouldn't make enough money.

Im sure the RBP 2016 can cool it with its revolutionary vapor chamber cooling.

You know, if Razer is talking about crazy 3 screen notebooks and Acer is doing 21" curved panel laptops, maybe another company can make a laptop version of one of those sky crane helicopters, some massive beast built around an open PCIe x16 desktop GPU bay with a separate PSU

I'm expecting flexible displays used as "roll up screens" to take up the large screen mission moving forward to deliver large screen displays without a huge footprint or weight.

It's too early to make a claim whether Nvidia is making a GTX 1080Ti for laptop or desktop exclusive only, you can't take it from just one forum member unless he can point us to an official announcement or article.

    "One forum member."

You mean a company representative with a stellar track record who has hardly ever been wrong about this kinda stuff in the past?

    He can't post a source...

Sure don't believe it 100%, but I've had perfect calls made more often than not by people like him in the past.

Well... If he was told this by "them" which he was implying, it seems extremely difficult to change their mind about it now. GPUs are designed and prepared for production etc... Months and months ahead of time. If they decided to make it now we probably wouldn't be seeing it until Volta is almost here and then it would be pointless.

Edit: I mean Volta is probably close to starting production. The Teslas at least are coming this year.

How long was Gtx980M in sales before Pascal took over the baton? Now take the same time for Gtx1080. When can we expect the next "Mobile" graphics... And AMD has not yet come up with a competitor. Why should Nvidia put out 1080TI ?

Another good point. Pascal just was a huge profit in laptops by marketing it as desktop. They are sitting as kings right now. That's not what leads to new innovations, competition is.

Can't wait to see those in action, though by the time they're viable I may have abandoned screens entirely for AR/VR projected screens, as I'm thinking cheap AR headsets are closer to production at the moment.

Looks like a couple of different companies I don't recognize for hardware, but Google, Microsoft, Intel and Qualcomm I think are the main players in actually creating os/chips. I'm keeping an eye on Intel Alloy right now, it seems promising.

Makes me wonder why they even have NDAs. You know how frustrating it is to not be able to talk about things that have been accurate on the forums for months other than a bunch of "maybe" and winky emoji posts?

Well I kinda get it for like the mobile Pascal launch. Those specs were all leaks.

I just mean nVidia themselves gave us the specs for 1080 Ti, and people here are still freaking out saying wait for benchmarks. Only a serious design issue would make them not perform where the numbers put them. Like we have the Cuda cores, ROPs, shaders, and clocks of a GP102 core... Done, performance is known within a few percent...

I don't know, I recall a lot of stuff that was very accurate in the mobile leaks.

No I know there was a lot of good information, I more meant Nvidia hadn't acknowledged it, while in this case Nvidia did officially give us 1080 Ti specs last week so there really is no doubt, unlike Ryzen where so much was new it was hard to make a perfect call (though I still wasn't surprised at all).

But hey feel free to join the discord and give us juicy info lol. What could go wrong?

Expect some up-charge for the ones with a custom shroud/fans/cooling, and more for any with a built in coolant loop. At least with the last gen, it appeared the closed loop ones were approximately the cost of the card + H100 (which I think is the pump and radiator most use).

I am debating if I want one at this point. I am off the next few days, got my profit sharing check depositing tomorrow and now I'm torn. Do I got camp out Microcenter tomorrow morning and pick up an EVGA 1080 Ti or do I wait for Volta. Hmm.. o_O Feel like I don't need it since I'm satisfied with my gaming perf, but it's the need to have the best that drives me to burn cash.

I also just got my profit sharing check and I'm definitely getting an EVGA ICX 1080 ti at my first opportunity.

That's is a very popular question over at the EVGA forums, nobody there has announced it yet.

Nexus also made 1080 and Titan XPascal hybrid's out of the Founders's Edition cards, check out those video's - completed including performance results - to see how much cooling helped stabilize clock rate and performance at high OC levels.

It should be fun to see how much lower temps help out the 1080ti :)
