I will try to help, and maybe other can as well. I was about to go to bed (3AM, LOL).
What system do you have the 880M installed?
I will check for your reply after I get some shut-eye.

Thank you.
I am using Windows 10 with latest updates 1903.
As you know the NVIDIA stopped updating kepler mobile so these modified drivers enable me to use the latest drivers despite that fact.
Good night then!
It is only 12 AM here haha
-
Yes, they did stop supporting Kepler and older GPUs. 1903 is also a terrible mess and that could be contributing to the grief.
By system I meant what laptop and what specs? Is the AC adapter connected when the GPU will not hold its core clocks?
Talk to you in a little while. Maybe @Papusan will have some suggestions while I am asleep. -
I see.
Its G750JZ.
4700HQ
32GB of ram
GTX 880M 4GB
Yes AC is connected and battery is plugged in.
Also I think the problem happens because of the modified drivers itself and not because of the OS because I had something similar happen to me before when I tried to install modified drivers (I don't remember what it was). It probably doesn't help the fact that I have optimus. I read that most folk have problems with modified drivers and optimus.Last edited: Sep 29, 2019 -

Yeah, it's a nice laptop for what it is. Those look like some good thermal pads they've used on the heatsink, they look like they'd transfer heat pretty well, they've got a 'wet' kind of look that makes me think they're really malleable and make good contact, doesn't look like they've skimped there, plus the placement looked accurate & fully covered chips, etc.Mr. Fox likes this. -
Why do you think your MXM died? Was it because of the high temperatures or something else? -
Well, improperly modded drivers can cause some problems. But, probably not like you are having. 880M has had problems since the beginning and I found this problem was not correctable with 780M SLI unless I used much old drivers. Maybe you can try an older driver version like @ssj92 is with his M18xR2. There is a good chance you are having issues that are NVIDIA's fault with incompetent Kepler support and if that is the case the only fix might be to use ancient drivers that worked correctly before they screwed things up. That sucks six ways to Sunday, and it is why I sold all of my older Alienware laptops.
But, first make sure NVIDIA control panel is set up correctly. I will post some screen ahots later on when I have computer access. I am replying from my phone at the moment.
I do not think it is an Optimus problem as much as it is the kind of laptops that typically use Optimus, that has created the stigma associated with Optimus.
While you are waiting for screen shots and info from @ssj92 can you clarify what clock speeds you are seeing? How low do they go? Do they drop and stay there or constantly fluctuate erratically under load? Does the CPU do the same, or does it run at full turbo reliably and consistently? -
-
I guess I can reveal that I have the Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED. It has the i9 9980HK, 2080 MQ and 64GBs of RAM. I got it to video edit on the go and while it works for that, it runs like a furnace. Great video, very informative bro! I got to push myself to make them that aren't long tangents.Mr. Fox likes this. -
They pretty much stay at 2D clocks so 324Mhz for both cores.
If I run render test it stays there when under normal behaviour it should hit 993 and 2500mhz.
The games perform the same. It stays at 324Mhz and Rivaturner repots 0 usage and activation which again confirms that the clocks stay locked to 2D activity.
I do not want older drivers as I already am on older drivers D: The whole purpose of this is to use the newest drivers because the support was dropped at 425.31 drivers.
I love my 880M otherwise because I have a custom bios for it and I can easily oc it 100/500 at 1020mV and its stable or have it at 975mV with 70/400 overclock stable. Its just the driver support that saddens me because some newer games run like absolute ass with older drivers. -

Ha, you caught me out of left field with that question for a second, and then realised you're referring to what I say in my Sig about my 670MX in my M17xR3! I think the GPU died, but I can't be 100% sure. Occasionally it used to have issues when being powered on, if I remember rightly there used to occasionally be black screens and a series of bleeps - when that happened it would eventually fix itself by turning it on & off multiple times, removing the battery, unplugging & replugging the power cord, I can't remember the exact sequence that would bring it back and to be honest I'm not sure I ever knew the exact sequence that did! But anyway, it did that over the last year of it's life every so often, and it did seem to start sometime after upgrading to Windows 10, but don't know if that's a factor at all. The GPU temps were fine and during gaming it was under 65 degC even with my overvolt & overclock. It never had any degredation of the overclock over the life of the card, and I ran it overvolted & overclocked "to the max" like that since I bought it for over 3 years. One day it failed and wouldn't turn on with the GPU installed, I think it was the same beeps, or were there no beeps, I can't remember, I definitely couldn't get it to work again anyway. When I use that laptop occasionally now I just use it with iGPU of the 2920XM CPU I have in there (I've taken the 670MX out of the laptop). -

Replying to my own post with an update. I didn't really see any further increase in performance with BCLK/FCLK at 140Mhz vs the 110Mhz (all other clocks being equal). In fact I've plumped for a middle of road BCLK now at 120Mhz, but I've also decided to go back up to my previous 4.7Ghz overclock (I had been using at 4.6Ghz) - I keep cycling every once in a while between rock solid 4.6Ghz and not so rock solid 4.7Ghz! When I say rock solid I mean OCCT stable for 1 hour. In fact at 4.7Ghz and 1.39V I can't even test OCCT anymore because it triggers thermal throttling of the VRM's on the motherboard (in HWInfo IA VR Thermal Alert & RING VR Thermal Alert). I think my VRM's need re-padding or something. But, I don't really need to repad them because normal use sees a max of 90W from the CPU whereas OCCT draws 130 odd Watts! 4.7Ghz @1.39V is stable on Prime95 non-AVX and stable on an overnight infinite loop of x264 (which is AVX). Yeah, so gone back to my highest 4.7Ghz overclock now, but with the addition of a 20% overclock on FCLK, which does offer a very small bump to GPU performance (1% if you're lucky!). Update ended, many thanks!!
Oh, and here's a link to FCLK testing from a review site, they found as much!

Check your NVIDIA Control Panel settings.
You can use NVIDIA Inspector to change all of the settings on this page and save the changes to a nip file that you can import to save time later. (See zipped file attached.)
Yes, the driver support is very sad. I fear that you are doomed to using only super-duper crazy old drivers. Sad, but many 780M owners are in exactly the same boat. The only solutions to use antique drivers, get rid of it and buy something else, or just live with it being a sucky pile of crap. The Green Goblin really screwed the pooch... and they had puppies. Last good Kepler driver was 345.20 (released February 2015)... bastards.
Looks at these videos from my YouTube channel. Is that how your is behaving?

It could also be a cancerous BIOS update if you started having that issue after your last firmware change. it could also be some foolishness with Windows 10 "power management" feces. All of these stupid goons have developed some sort of disgusting retarded obsession with saving power. That sucks, but that's the world we live in. Tree-huggers galore.

There's been numerous BIOS updates for my motherboard since I've had it, a lot of the later ones have been updated microcodes for Spectre. So I can't rule out a BIOS update as a cause, but I suppose that would indicate a lowered max allowed temperature for the VRM's in one of the BIOS updates...if it is caused by BIOS update. Windows 10 can't influence VRM Throttle temperatures can it? -
Thanks! I will try, luckily no. I had custom bios made for my GPU and I can run it 975 at stock instead of 1012mV and then have it overclocked and what not with same temperature as with stock. This is actually second hand 880m bought off ebay and it performs much better than the one I originally owned.
Other than trying custom drivers and having them not working eveything else performs fine. -
Try these drivers, I was surprised to see 780M SLI working with the LATEST drivers thanks to @j95 driver: More versions can be found here: https://premamod.wordpress.com/2017/08/15/j95-nvidia-inf/
Be sure to boot with driver signature turned off.
A couple of things to try...first, is your system running Optimus (Can you see both 880M & Intel HD Graphics in control panel)?
Are you able to change which GPU is active in BIOS (880M ONLY, iGPU ONLY, etc.)
Try putting the computer to hibernate then turn it back on.Papusan likes this. -
Those are the drivers I was trying and received the problems.
Yes and yes.
No, the bios doesn't have such options.
I also tried that and it didn't work. -
Did you try using the last officially supported drivers and modifying the inf yourself?
-
I tried that once already but couldn't get the drivers to be installed,
I might have had wrong instructions, mind telling me how to do it? -
Basically, download the driver version needed from nVidia website.
Get the modified INF from J95 website
Reboot with driver signature turned off.
What I do is, I copy the files I need to overwrite, then start the installer. When the installer reaches around 60% I overwrite the files in the C:/NVIDIA folder and install the drivers.Rage Set likes this. -
For me, the download speed have been the huge problem. Not so much the upload. And I don’t like put my files in the Cloud. So I could easly live with a lot lower Upload speed
Did you use DCH or Standard drivers. What driver versjon works for you? I mean the latest one. Tried with previous OS version(1809)?

SO if I understood you correctly. First I copy the files as I would normally then I install the drivers and then at 60% I copy the same files again?
Also, what drivers should I download? For desktop kepler?Last edited: Sep 30, 2019 -
WHQL drivers since I have this GPU. Any drivers work as long they were officially released for my GPU by NVIDIA
So anything below 425.13. When I tried modified drivers I tried both versions.
No. Only with 1903. I cannot go back to 1809 anymore so that is out of picture.Last edited: Sep 30, 2019 -

I think installing a modified driver is fairly simple. I used to use laptopvideo2go website to download the modified inf file for each Geforce driver release: https://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/242-geforce-r435-series/. I also used to edit the inf files myself as another option, but sometimes I would use laptopvideo2go. I think all you need to do is download the latest mobile driver from NVidia, extract the contents of the installer using 7zip, then download the modified inf from laptopvideo2go for that driver. Then you just copy and paste the modified inf into the folder named Display.Driver that you extracted from the installer. Then you just run the setup file in the extracted NVidia folder to install the driver (but you disable Windows 10 driver enforcement first, because otherwise you can't install modified drivers).Last edited: Sep 30, 2019 -

Tinkering with the BIOS @Prema provided for the new Tongfang turdbook and tuning it as best I can with locked core ratios... Poking around in my HWBOT account and looking at some interesting results here. I'm actually pretty impressed, all things considered. And, the temps are not half bad either. The turdbook is beating all of them, including the 4960X, LOL.
Having the right amount of voltage control (setting it static at 1.150V and capping the maximum at 1.250V in the BIOS instead of adaptive with a negative offset) really helps the temps a ton.

Not bad at all. Accelerated progress for year on year performance even though it's in a thin a light compared to your thicker notebooks of the past. Using your scores, 3 years gap between 4790K and 7700K and 19% performance improvement, only a 2 year gap between 7700K and your 9750H and 15% improved performance, so that's accelerated performance year on year vs your past CPUs. We've got AMD's competition to thank for that, and the realisation that Intel were stuck mostly on 4 cores & 8 threads for an eternity (2009-2017 Q4).jaybee83, Rage Set, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -

This is just amazing and goes to show nVidia could have fixed their 780M SLI driver issue years ago. Idk if it's because I rebooted using BIOS instead of FN+F7 but @j95 drivers have allowed my 780M SLI config to not only work on the latest drivers where nVidia has stopped supporting them, but I haven't had any throttling issues at all at stock config. Next will be to test OC

That's not some bad performance there, about half the GPU score of my GTX 1070 - so if you get 'perfect' scaling in some games then that's still playable on a lot of modern games, at max settings in some cases....so it's a pity that NVidia stopped supporting Kepler when it comes to new driver releases. You really need new drivers for new games, so it's not really an issue if you just play old games, but sli users can still use Kepler to good effect in modern games if it were to just come down to rendering power and if they had driver support....and I suppose 780ti users could still get some use out of their cards in modern games if there was driver support (VRAM limitations could be a problem though). And on this topic there's this: https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/3446-nvidia-gtx-780-ti-revisit-in-2019-benchmarks
From the above 780ti is about GTX 1060 performance, sometimes lower, so it's not quite dead yet.
Overclocked 780ti got 13005 Graphics Score in 3DMark from this guru3d review ( https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_gtx_780_ti_gaming_review,27.html), so that's not far off your GTX 780M sli score (which is not overclocked yet) - so that kinda helps prove that your 780M sli should not be quite dead yet in terms of relevance.
The normal user is locked into DCH drivers on your laptop are they?? That sucks, I always thought that DCH drivers were an optional choice rather than a necessity?Last edited: Oct 5, 2019 -
Nope, I am not locked into them for anything but the Intel HD graphics trash drivers. Now, if you let Windoze OS X do its own feces without taking the right steps it will install DCH drivers by default. But, I don't put up with that baloney when there is another option. The morons at Intel only have DCH drivers for the Intel Graphics. There is no standard Intel Graphics option for this generation that I am aware of. But, I am running standard NVIDIA drivers with all of the rubbish folders deleted like the @j95 mod. I don't have the INF mod yet. I think most normal users are muppets that just don't understand how to work around the DCH crap. Many of them are just lazy and some are OK with sitting back letting the Redmond Retards molest their PC.Last edited: Oct 5, 2019Rage Set, Papusan and Robbo99999 like this.

Right, so if users want to use Optimus (ie the Intel iGPU), then they have to use DCH drivers from NVidia (& Intel)? Or after re-reading your post you mean you can easily transfer to NVidia standard drivers, but still have to use Intel DCH drivers? That's a bit rubbish, what's the main problem with DCH drivers, I think I heard it means you have to get them from the Windows Store or something? -
Nvidia killed driver support for the Kepler Mobile cards. Not for the desktop line cards. Aka latest screw up from Nvidia.
See below
https://github.com/CHEF-KOCH/nVidia-modded-Inf#sd-cd-grd-dch-or-standard-drivers
The DCH drivers is still on Nvidia's diver/download page. It's because of the Nvidia control panel you have to visit Windows Store (forced if you don't use mod Nvidia Control panel). Nice, you think? A solution Microsoft is very happy with. Because this generate trafick to their useless Store. No Thanks!Last edited: Oct 5, 2019Ashtrix, Rage Set and Robbo99999 like this. -
