Hey well that's not bad to be only 10th in line for getting there just 30mins early! Does your FTW3 Ultra power throttle at all then? I guess you've maxed out the Power Slider in overclock software? What is the max percentage figure on your Power Slider, for the higher power cards it seems to be lower because the power limit is already higher at stock - I remember seeing some cards on Guru3d with only a 104% max figure allowable on the Power Slider.

Anyone seen these Corsair 1000D cases? I am interested in one of these. Finally a case that I could fit anything I wanted inside. (2) 480MM radiators in the front, and a 420MM in the top! And a 240MM on the back.

This is a serious super tower!

$499.99 is pretty steep. But not insane by any means for a case of this magnitude.

I am loving this new DDR4 quad channel set. Samsung B-Die on A2 DDR4 sticks is just so easy to overclock, and I suppose they really do look nice, the gold and RGB has grown on me! I was already running 3733Mhz quad-channel before. But they were the worst quality of any ram you could probably purchase, using high-quality memory has allowed me to run much tighter timmings and at a slightly faster frequency too. So, it is about 25% higher bandwidth. And around 35% lower latency. I will never buy cheap memory again. Unsure about any performance benefit in games yet. Maybe who knows.

Oh and Skylake X runs 1T so easily. I’ve run this same setup in hci memtest, and it passes for an hour with fans pointing on my DDR4 modules. I know that’s not very long. But, good enough for me.

I was going to pick one up as I love huge cases but I found that I change hardware wayyy to often to use a case. Now I only use one case for my gaming rig and all of my other rigs are on wet benches.

That’s what I am debating over right now. My main system is in my signature, and it is always getting messed with or taken apart frequently. So, I am considering a praxis test bench as my daily case also.

When I saw the 1000D I thought it might work because there’s so much room inside, I could literally fit both arms with room to spare all around the motherboard, I found a company that sells them for $366 dollars brand new shipped. So it is really hard to beat that. But then again, I would like an open bench for ease of access.

My current case has no front panel, no door, no side panel, and I am considering drilling the rivers and removing the top portion of the case.

It’d be nice if Apple made the RTX3080/90/70. Everyone could pre-order and we’d all have one on launch day in millions and millions.

Now the 3070 is coming soon. And those will be about $1,000 on eBay after they sell out in 0.01 seconds. Nvidia can only produce about 10 per day it seems. So there should be about 25,000-50,000 available to be shared between the world on the 29th.

The GPU market Is such trash right now. Pricing on 2080Ti’s is back to where it was before the 3080 was even here. I really wish AMD would stop gluing CPU’s together for just a moment and launch a 2080Ti competitor.

I really don’t understand how a product can be released to the masses, but it cannot be obtained.

I should have never sold my 2080Ti. And even though I fetched beyond retail. The performance of my 1660Ti is unbearably slow.

It's a hard life tps3443! :D But you know what Papusan & tps, I bet NVidia & partners will start ramping up big time.....sure they'll be out of stock till next year if they've forecast that, but that doesn't necessarily mean that will be weeks of lead time between buying a GPU & receiving one for the rest of the year.....the worst shortage is happening right now, I can't see them not ramping up production and getting more GPUs out the door pronto.....it'll be on an acceleration curve if you like, the worst of it is now. Some customers on overclockers.co.uk are thinking they'll have to wait till next year if they're say 2000th in line for a GPU, but I think it will be way before that. I'm 1313th in line, I can't really imagine it not arriving this month or November. Having said that overclockers.co.uk have hardly received any GPU stock recently, just small amounts (they report in the thread what comes in), but they are adamant that they are a priority customer to "NVidia & the board partners" (my quotation marks), and they are quite a big deal here in the UK is my impression.

I tend to think the 2000 series was so overpriced and such a small step up from the 1000 series that many 1000 (and even 900 series) owners opted to wait. The 3000 series provided a big enough boost at
a very attractive price with the 3080 the demand was bound to be insane.

I truly do hope AMD brings the pain with the 6000 series. While mustering 2080ti levels of performance would be admirable, I'm hoping for >=3080 with the 6900xt or a killer price point if it only manages 2080ti
level performance. I'm fine with either Nvidia or AMD. Price, performance, availability....all options are on the table. :)

This means they can't go much above $499 for 6000 series. Can't be big business for AMD if the 3070 die Size is 392 mm² and comparable silicon from AMD is above 500 mm².

I’d buy one in a heartbeat too. I am actually considering getting in line at a micro center in a bordering state to purchase the 3070. I feel like I would actually have to get there about 2-3 days early and literally camp in front of the store until the 29th comes. Seems crazy, just to get a dang video card.

Our Microcenter is ~90 min away in St. David's and the closest one. I've thought about taking some rides up there especially with @Talon getting such magic at his local Microcenter.

The 5700xt can kinda/sorta hold down 4k a large portion of the time, but it has too many lows (which have suddenly gotten much now with the new memory kit along with FreeSync). 3080 literally doubles its performance at 4k:

So a 6900xt at or close to a 3080 would be more than acceptable.

I love this memory. I run my Royal Z 4x8GB versions at this daily now. It never gives me any trouble either.

I use 1.55V. I’ve either got a really good IMC or it’s just good memory. Or both. It just runs like a clock!

Hey, that's a good point, they'll steal some of the NVidia sales and allow them to catch up! :D Hopefully there's some folks ahead of me in the Asus TUF Gaming 3080 queue that like the looks of AMD this year instead.

EDIT: over on overclockers.co.uk the admin is saying that board partners will be ramping up production at the end of this month and continuing that ramping up in November, I'd say it'll be November when I get my card.

Power limit be gone! With the Strix OC vBIOS the card is essentially shunting itself and waay under reporting power draw around 330w max while OC and fans at max. Someone done messed up or maybe they never thought to try this combo. Either way the power limit is basically no more and no need for hardware mods.

So am I right in thinking that you flashed a Strix OC vBIOS to whatever 3080 card you've got?? What card did you have? (Or do you mean you've got a Strix card but it has a BIOS switch and you've just tested the OC Bios?)

Ages ago I flashed a Gigabyte vBIOS to my Zotac GTX 1070 and it underreports power too, I think it's because it has a different power pin layout (in terms of Zotac is x2 8pin and Gigabyte is a different layout)....not that it matters for my GTX 1070 because it was never bouncing off the power limits, but yeah (same as you) I found that flashing a different vBIOS can cause the card to underreport it's power usage if there are these design quirk differences.

I have an EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra, sold my previous XC3.

Flashed this FTW3 with the Asus Strix OC vBIOS. That vBIOS is supposed to be 450w max, but it appears to be under reporting the power and allowing my FTW3 to run beyond 450w. I am estimating around 475w of power draw since power cable 3 is not reporting anything. If it follows cable 1 and 2, then its around 475w under load with 90% TDP reported. This allows PWL to be removed in most cases.

I have been considering one but holds less stuff than my caselabs TH10 not to mention thinner rads and 2 less 480mm rads and its bigger... very poorly used space. You can buy a second 2 480mm rack for 4 480mm rads in the 1000D from coldzero.

Do you see similar behaviour from the Strix OC vbios as from this video? This is of course with the 3090. And how much advantage you get from swap the vBios? I mean in gaming.

New display arrived early. It decimates my old ZR30w in every way possible. HDRi (HDR applied to SDR) is pretty nifty. Freesync was instantly detected and panel has zero bad pixels (my biggest fear). Image quality is outstanding and better than the Samsung G7 32 I returned. It's a keeper.

Bad news is as expected with the 5700xt, WoW has turned into a frame plummeting mess in 5 mans even to the mid 30's when the spell effects light up the screen @ 4k. Raids plummet into the high teens / low 20's on encounters and pulls. Previously with my ZR30w (2560x1600), frames stayed pretty much @ 60fps everywhere no matter what @ Ultra 10 with the occasional dip into the 50's. Letting the 5700xt render as high as possible @ 2560x1600, it would usually top out around 75-80fps @ ultra 10. This is even before prepatch and especially when the Xpac hits in most likely December now (Bliz pushed it back due to very glaring issues). Dropping the level to 6-7ish fixes the frame rate issue for the most part.

I'm definitely going to need a new GPU but at least Blizz pushing it back a few months gives me some breathing room along with prepping for 2077.

Ah, probably very similar to my GTX 1070 flashed with a different vBIOS. Given that you say cable 3 is not reporting anything does that mean you reckon the GPU is just sucking power from two of them now.....or I'm thinking it's probably still sucking power from all 3 cables and thereby underreporting power use.....but have you validated with some comparative KillaWatt electrical outlet readings to confirm that the card is indeed sucking more power now with the new vBIOS vs the previous vBIOS?

EDIT: on the topic of vBIOS flashing, that gives me the idea of flashing my TUF Gaming 3080 (when it arrives) to the OC model, same design (on the surface at least) just different vBIOS, do you reckon that's a good idea, especially if the max power limit is gonna be higher (but I don't know that yet)?

I am sure it will work but if Asus does any kind of binning on their GPUs, you likely won't see major results. With that said, it wouldn't hurt to test a variety of vBIOS.

I think there is a BIOS switch on the TUF Gamings, which would make vBIOS flashing safer. My only concern would be if the card failed whilst it was in warranty and had the OC vBIOS installed on one of the switches....in a way that I wouldn't be able to flash the stock vBIOS back - would invalidate my warranty right? Or most card failures aren't catastrophic and would allow me to flash back the stock vBIOS? On a practical level it's a bit moot because I won't be needing the extra 5% (if that, figure plucked out of air, not gonna happen on air?) anyway, so practical argument would be not to flash it during warranty period.....but I like to max out the potentials, ha!

It's 100% pulling that additional power. My scores went up significantly across the board. My highest stable clocks and stable voltage again all far far higher, as did my temps lol. The good thing about the Strix vBIOS on the FTW is that they're both 3 fan design, they both spin at 3000rpm max fans, fan controls, leds, and EVGA ICX sensors all work on the Strix vBIOS. The only draw back I found was the loss of a single DP port. Otherwise my other 2 DP ports and HDMI port all work. The vBIOS also works on the MSI Gaming X Trio.

Right now all 2x8pin cards are power limited, but it's not all that bad. The high power limit is really for benching and squeezing every last fps out of the card where inefficiency has crept in. You can't cross flash the 2x8pin cards and get any change in power limits (yet). They cross flash fine, but the 320w cards are stuck at their 320-340w limits. As soon as they hit 320w draw they begin to PWR throttle, its ridiculous. I flashed the TUF OC vBIOS to my old XC3 and while it worked fine, it didn't unlock any higher power limit even though it was reported in GPU-Z. Nvidia is playing some games this time, and it's almost as if they created another "A" vs non-A chip situation but didn't go public about it. I think there is something in the vBIOS that needs to also be flashed to allow for the higher power limit. I tried every single vBIOS available for 2x8 pin and 3x8pin available on my XC3 and nothing worked. Other with varying brands have also tried and failed over at overclockers.net forums. Again my guess is that Nvidia has forced the AIBs to lock down the 'reference' boards to 320w and not allow cross flashing with custom board vbios. The TUF is technically a custom board and allows for 350w-370w as it begins to PWR throttle at 350w. These chips are thirsty.

In the end I gave up on my XC3 and am very happy I did. Now bring on AMD offerings! I am actually looking forward to seeing what they have for offer. Maybe they'll blow us away and force Nvidia to get Hopper out next year.

You can flash the chip on board as long as it's standard. Or you can use a cheapy second card to boot from and then reflash your bricked vBios. These are two of the best recovery options available.

So do you think the shunt mod is going to work for the locked down cards?

This is exactly why i'm looking for a 3 8pin 3090 card from jump.

Shunt mod works as long as you shunt 10 spots lol. First attempts failed because they weren't shunting the PCIE measure. Just get a 3 8pin card and then wait/hope for XOC would be the best bet.

    That's what I figure.
Looking at the 3090 FTW or Asus Lighting/Strix or MSI Gaming Trio or Kingpin. Not necessarily in that order.

Unless you're gaming at 4K, that will be enought to keep relatively high boost clocks. Coupled with a great cooler for lower temps you will really like that card. It's a custom card with a great VRM design and dual bios. It's best value card IMO, and for $699 cannot be beat.

The RTX 3080 will finally bring 165FPS gaming at 2560x1440P in probably any title.

I know a lot of people are considering 4K gaming and things like this, and it will certainly do that too. But, really we’ve never been able to achieve 1440P in all games with 165 FPS.

I can’t wait to get my hands on one. Because water cooled at 2.1Ghz, it will be a beast for 1440P gaming.

    Edit:
    https://www.anandtech.com/show/1614...en-3-on-nov-5th-19-ipc-claims-best-gaming-cpu
They are claiming 19% IPC increase, some clockspeed gains, and price increases. The 6 core is now $300, the 8 core 5800X is $450, the 12 core 5900X is $550, and the 16 core is $800 now.

    upload_2020-10-8_10-39-26.png

    Edit 2: upload_2020-10-8_11-4-2.png
that is the preview, but used the 5900X with it. This is their claimed increase in some games over a 10900K.
    upload_2020-10-8_11-7-40.png

So, they don't give the uplift in those games specifically, meaning that even though the numbers look similar to the Nvidia 3080, some of that may be attributable to the new CPU architecture. So people need to be careful on claims that the 6900XT will beat the 3080. But it does seem competitive, nonetheless, and not as close to the 3070 as some claim. But, who knows. We will know next month and these are first party numbers until then.

That's some impressive single thread improvements then from AMD, better than Intel in single thread! So that should mean that these AMD CPUs are better gaming CPUs than Intel now. Yes, I can see what you mean by that CPU advantage possibly being the cause of the framerate lead in the Radeon 6000 series slide, so yeah we can't draw many conclusions re the speed of the 6000 series vs NVidia 3080. Yeah, so AMD CPUs might be the gaming king now!

I’m telling you. IPC looks good. That 5950X may be tempting. But, I assume they are pre-overclocked and you get what you get. AMD doesn’t like to leave much on the table.

That's true, AMD have been very poor overclockers recently, but from a practical perspective in gaming (& other workloads) these CPUs will be faster than overclocked Intel CPUs (I think, not done a detailed comparison).

EDIT: 5900X (12 core / 24 thread) looks like the best value product, some future proofing and also in terms of performance/value generally it's pretty sweet.

Seems so. They now are priced like Intel, roughly. I'm waiting to see if they drop the value chips at CES. They have the keynote there, so that is likely where they announce the mid-range GPUs (since the high end GPUs get announced on the 28th and drop next month), so throwing on the value salad makes sense (also as Intel is rumored to release their Rocket Lake chips with willow cove cores backported to 14nm+++++++ in Q1, which tigerlake has some good single core performance, so adding 14nm with about 10% more speed on it, even with a little performance sacrificed in the backport, they will need value to counterpunch Rocket performance). But that is speculation on my part.

Yeah, definitely worth keeping an eye on. Unfortunately, with the Nov. 5th release, we will not have hard numbers from third parties to then evaluate their first party claims on performance of their graphics cards on the 28th. But, AMD, generally, has been doing better, at least regarding CPUs, with fewer crazy claims (not saying they don't exist, but they are being more transparent in the past year or two). So time will tell all tales.

Yes and no. They are pre-binned for speed. Best you can do with AMD is great cooling and minor tweaking to optimize the performance beyond their algorithm.

But anymore, Intel also isn't leaving the 20% they once left on the table either, now down to about 10%, give or take, you can get in your all core OC.

But you are correct, you cannot expect a lot. Also, they did the speed in the same power envelope. Now it is waiting for reviews to see all core performance and overclocking. GN will LN2 it. So will Bearded Hardware. I could see Roman water cool it for reviews.

    Generally though, you are correct.

In my post, I showed anandtech compared the single core performance of the 10900K overclocked to 5.3GHz in Cinebench R20. So, if that is true...

@ajc9988 , I found this link re expected performance of upcoming Radeon card:
    https://m.hexus.net/tech/news/graphics/146008-amd-outs-radeon-rx-6000-performance-rtx-3080/
They've dropped in the performance vs their other cards tested, and it looks like it's gonna be about same speed as NVidia 3080. They say the game was tested at the same settings, although AMD were a little vague about the exact settings in the slide, but they do mention that there's possibility it's not 100% like for like settings.

I'm cleaning out the spare room that I've been using for storage for family coming to visit. I'll take a screenshot of the GN post of the slide in the slide deck with testing setup info in a little bit.
