MSI had just released a beta BIOS last week that did nothing to help, so hopefully this one will fix it.

On the positive note, I was able to set fclk to 2000 with this 5800x and B-Die 4000 sticks and no problems after Memtest, TM5 and Aida 8hr stress tests and no WHEA errors or audio stutters. So far, so good.
WoW is definitely smoother and while GPUs are usually bound @ 4k, those dips are greatly reduced or gone locked @ 60fps. Had one of my first major gaming/raiding sessions for 4-5hrs no problems.

Since I'm not really doing anything exciting at this point in terms of benching, I decided if you can't beat them might as well join them. Maybe this will pay off the GPU upgrade that I didn't actually need in the first place, or fund an OptimusPC waterblock (or Hydro Copper as a less desirable option) if and when either of those are actually released someday.
So, I am less than 24 hours into it now. Got a Trezor cold storage wallet so I can keep what's mine without some turdbag weasel hacker stealing it from an online wallet.
I still believe this though and wish the whole crypto-crapto mining thing would collapse. Not surprising, as unimpressed as Mrs. Fox usually is with my computing hobby, when I showed her money might be incoming rather than outgoing she was actually interested for a change, LOL.
Since I seldom use the turdbook anymore, I figured I might as well get something out of owning it and put it to work as well. The 3090 K|INGP|N is totally destroying the 2080 Ti in this task and it's a literal bloodbath for the 2060N.

True, I was waiting on the i9 to give it a whirl in a 590 potentially especially if this USB issue isn't resolved with the next update. I'm not quite sure how Ryzen 5000 series owners live with this. Either way unless there is a miracle boost in performance, it looks like 5000 series will still be top dog(ish). -

True on both comments. But, I'd still like to see crypto implode and become worthless. To think that something that doesn't actually exist and is based on nothing has value is flawed, and to have imaginary currency populate a virtual "wallet" (mine or anyone else's) for doing nothing meaningful is just messed up. But, I can see where this conceptually applies to so many things it is scary. We live in a really screwed-up world with a lot of irrational people, LOL.
Even with an insanely powerful GPU like the 3090, crypto-mining is a slow process. The imaginary money isn't generated in great quantity very fast and if you have enough hardware to actually make it happen quickly it will take a long time to realize a profit because the equipment is so inexpensive. If you already have it for another purpose that's one thing (like in my case) but acquiring the equipment for the sole purpose of mining doesn't seem like an intelligent thought process has taken place. It seems more like a nefarious endeavor for someone chasing a get rich by doing nothing scheme, which is actually a sadly common mentality in today's world.Clamibot, Papusan and electrosoft like this. -
To be fair, all money is imaginary. Any medium can be used as currency, and it's only worth what everyone agrees it's worth. We could use wooden blocks as currency if everyone agreed they had value. Inversely, gold would be worthless if nobody put value in it, which would be ideal since it's much better utilized as a material for the construction of wires in electronics than being wasted on making jewlery and the like.
I will wholeheartedly agree with you on the majority of your points though. The get rich quick mentality is quite dangerous, and it's stupid to pursue. Nobody is going to make a million dollars overnight. Even if you manage to from some stroke of extreme good fortune, you'll also most likely spend it all pretty quick.
I'll admit i'm in the crypto space as well to make some moolah, but I have a long term outlook on the scale of 4-8 years. It's silly for anyone to think they can make big bucks from investing a small amount of money for only a year. It can happen, but I'd say the risk involved is too great, and such opportunities are rare.
The mining craze makes it difficult for anyone who isn't a miner to get parts, which causes everyone a massive headache (except for the miners of course) and cause prices on hardware to go crazy high. People really need to temper their expectations. This is really the only thing I dislike about cryptocurrencies: it causes everyone to go wild. That's more of a people problem though rather than an inherent problem with cryptocurrencies.Rage Set, electrosoft, Mr. Fox and 1 other person like this. -

Wise choice! Have you worked out how long you'll have to mine for to pay off the GPU (incl electricity costs)? I'm still in a queue for a 3080 at the following UK retailer, but like the company rep (named Gibbo) says it looks like noone's really gonna get a GPU in 2021!
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/forums/posts/34631013/
I'm gonna hang on & wait to see what will eventually be offered to me.....as it stands I don't really need a 3080 and I'm willing to hold out with my GTX 1070 that is actually probably worth more now than when I bought it! Nothing above a 1050ti really available for purchase in the UK at the moment. Yeah, so I'm just gonna see what the retailer eventually offers me....I may decline and get a refund instead at that point.....but seems crazy that new launches like 3080ti may happen in the current climate when customers can't even get the current cards that have been released. Tech world is on hold.....nothing happening. -
It is interesting that mining performance of the 3090 is about double that of the 2080 Ti. System RAM speed also has a very obvious benefit in mining.
No I have not because that was never the intent, merely a potentially nice side benefit that was never factored into the purchase decision. However, I did check the electricity cost the first two days with all three systems running 24/7 and the added electricity wasn't more than a few bucks per day, with earnings about 4 times greater. I wanted to be sure the benefit was actually worth the hassle, wear and tear. I am still wrestling with whether or not it is worth the trouble. In some ways it doesn't really feel like it is.
Yes everything relating to PC tech is a mess right now. There is not much too look forward to unless you enjoy frustration and getting screwed financially. It is nearly impossible to purchase desirable components due to poor availability of everything. Even the undesirable mainstream consumer parts that are of little or no interest are scarce.Last edited: Mar 14, 2021Papusan and Robbo99999 like this. -

Do it, bro. You will not regret it. It is probably the single most awesome computer-related purchase I have ever made. It's a gift that keeps on giving from one hardware generation to the next. Considering how long ago I purchased mine, the price has not changed much. Mine developed a leaky tank, which seems to be a somewhat common issue with aquarium chillers. If that happens let me know and I will share what I did to fix it. I have no regrets and would buy it again without batting an eye.
Don't forget to add the adapters. The price of those has not changed... still $11.98. You will need them to attach G1/4 fittings.

Intel have released info of their downgrade flagship but want higher price point. When you fail, then do it double (25% fewer cores but at higher MSRP). Just Epic! Not every day you see the new perform worse then it's predecessor! All I can think of in my head is the newer OS from Redmond.
Intel's Rocket Lake Blasts Off With Fewer Cores, Higher Pricing tomshardware.com
As a result, Rocket Lake's flagship $539 Core i9-11900K comes to market with eight cores while the previous-gen Core i9 family came with 10 cores and AMD's leading chips stretch up to 16. Surprisingly, Intel has actually hiked its recommended pricing on its highest-end chips despite this seeming deficiency, signaling that it thinks its eight-core chips have the chops to take on AMD's competing models.
Yeah, bigger piece of silicon cost Intel more. Hence higher price tag for lower multi threaded performance with the fewer cores. Why not just eat the rootten apple and take the loss themself? Nope.
Intel chalks much of this disparity up to GPU and CPU cores that are physically larger than those found on Comet Lake, a byproduct of backporting from 10nm to 14nm, along with the increased number of graphics EUs. Intel could have shrunk or removed the integrated graphics engine to cram in more CPU cores to meet its power, performance, area, and cost (PPAC) targets, but integrated graphics are a key requirement for the high-volume OEM systems market that tends to leverage on-chip graphics rather than discrete GPUs.
Intel admits that Rocket Lake's lowered core count can lead to reduced gen-on-gen performance in heavily-threaded applications, but the Cypress Cove architecture brings a 19% improvement in instruction per cycle (IPC) throughput and Rocket Lake also tops out at a blistering 5.3 GHz that Intel says will help reestablish its performance leadership in gaming. Naturally, higher IPC and fast clocks help offset the step back to fewer cores, at least in most applications, but there will be areas of regression.
Yeah, it's very nice Hwbot implemented Cinebench R23 with Sigle core benchmarks
Could be that the Rocket can be on top in a couple of benchmarks on the bot.

I don't really like anything in new tech at this point. Nothing from Intel, nothing from AMD, nothing from NVIDIA... and, almost nothing available to buy even if it was good. I'm quite sure Intel tried please Microsoft with the SmallBig core arch. More junkware (small thin jokebooks/tablets) from Microsoft will need power efficient cores. Apple make own chips, Amd do the same. Intel try to find their niche with coming chips due Apples goodbye. See.. Desktop chips created with 50% smarthphone cores. Yeah, the PC technology landscape doensn't look so bright for people who want high performing computing. I wonder when AMD also goes the same path (for now they try push double the amont real cores vs Intel... And all created equal. Not 50% power efficient junk as Intel's next game changer). Have you seen the DimasTech benches? I stumbled across them at ModMyMods web site the other day totally by accident. They have all sorts of brackets and accessories you can buy for them. I'd love to see your mini-review after you get one. I really like the looks of it. It seems to be well made and nicely appointed in terms of brackets and what-not.
I noticed that the rear PCI-e bracket was installed backwards, LOL. Whomever assembled it for photos wasn't paying attention. The flush side should be toward the GPU/PCI-e card with the top lip for the thumbscrews facing away from the cards and mobo.
Do you need something like this? I have one with a 90° angle on the motherboard end like the Amazon link.

Also, FYI... I found all of the 2020 extruded aluminum quad track square bar stock and brackets, fittings, etc. on Amazon to custom fab a frame chassis like I have on the little binning bench. I was thinking about building a really big sucker out of that material for the Z490 Dark so I was looking for the rear PCI-e bracket and that is how I stumbled onto the DimasTech bench. I starting adding this stuff to a list for later. As I was researching this, I see it is most commonly used for building large 3D printers and framework for things like server racks and large bitcoin mining systems. @Johnksss

Yes, it will work perfectly for that. Here is how mine is hooked up. Small L-bracket attached to an empty screw hole, so nothing fancy.

Are you mining with the CPUs too? Your office must be a sauna.
I mined during the 2017/2018 crypto boom/bust cycle. So now I just buy. I'm a slightly early adopter of Bitcoin. I love the technology behind crypto and blockchain will become a major benefit to us all. Like all early technology, greed is what pushes it forward first. The innovation is when the second group enters the industry and actually produces products that benefit everyone. That is all I have to say about it. -
Yes, I am mining with CPU and GPU on all three systems. It is a little bit toasty, but not crazy hot. I have a ceiling fan and two portable fans going, plus I have the window open and it's about 60°F right now. What is interesting is memory is what gets the hottest. GPU and system memory both get warmer than anything I have ever experienced in terms of memory temperatures. The CPU and GPU cores are not very warm at all, but both types of memory run about 30°C warmer than I have ever seen them get doing anything else.
The systems have been mining continuously for like 5 days without interruption (I even use the smaller desktop for work all day while it is mining, LOL) and neither of the desktop CPUs has exceeded 70°C. The turdbook has been hovering around 85-90°C for days, but that's actually not abnormal for a chintzy piece of crap like that. It runs that temperature constantly when doing anything other than web browsing or email.
The VRAM on the 3090 gets the hottest, but it's running 21.1GHz continuously.Last edited: Mar 16, 2021 -

My G.Skill 2x16GB sticks I just purchased a few weeks ago stopped posting. x570 won't boot with them. Popping the CMOS and power made no difference.
I tried them in my wife's Z390 and they won't post there either. Tried them in the B550 in my brother's 5600x setup same thing.
They just hang on a blank screen and the white mem diagnostic light comes on.
I was testing/using them in the x570 and I started getting random memory crashes/errors in WoW at P1 XMP settings while isolating
WHEA errors (of which I received 210 of them). Retested with TM5 and errors every which way.
Shut down, went to go boot to reset the timings to SPD (2133) and the white mem light came on.
I put my 4x8GB 4000 B-Die kit back in and it posts and works just like before. I even popped in the 2x8GB set from my brother's and they work fine.
Something was already up as a few times cold booting Windows had to repair my WD AN1500 1TB in the x570 MSI Tomahawk.

Soooo, the Corsair 680X is not likely to work with a custom water loop unless I place the reservoir/pump combo in the second chamber. While I am not a huge proponent of RGB lighting, it does defeat the purpose of having a res/pump combo that is D-RGB and not showcasing it in some way. The 680X is a looker. There are so many nice cases, and all of them have limitations. The thought of having to deal with the limitations of an enclosed case really turns me off in spite of how incredibly nice looking some of them are. In the end, I think the only way of putting up with those limitations is to value form over function.
Was this going to be for a customer or a build for yourself? -

I dusted this morning and there is already a thin haze covering everything again, LOL. Sometimes the effort seems nearly futile because it returns almost immediately. I use one of those Swiffer dusting wands first to get the majority of the stuff (dust sticks to the wand nicely) then give the surface a short blast of air to dislodge any stuck particles, and follow that with a second pass of the Swiffer dusting wand.
I use a large box fan with an HVAC filter attached to the intake side to try to filter as much of it as I can from the air, but it often feels as if the effort is tantamount to going outside with a fly swatter on a mission to rid the world of flies.Robbo99999 and Rage Set like this. -
I don't know. I tend to replace my hardware pretty often, but this rig will be sold as a whole if I do ever want to get rid of it. This gives me leeway if I ever want to changeout the 5900X for a 5950X and not have to drain the loop.
I want a showpiece for my office. My 3960X build will remain my main rig. You know me, I will likely mess around with it.

Sorry I disappeared. Since I gave up on getting a GPU (and had plumbing that had to be done at home), I started researching building myself a speaker set with some .Kartesian speakers. Should be fairly nice! But that also meant researching how to make an amplifier, crossovers, etc. So may have missed some things going on. -
