What cooling are you using? (Sorry if previously mentioned)
EDIT: I remember you guys mentioning a vacuum or air duster you guys use for PC's, would you guys mind linking it again?
Ive been debating getting one for over a decade and I think its high time I grab one, its about time I clean up my desktop, want to replace some fans while I am at it.

Nice! and right in line for ~4825 clock. 11th and 5000 series are really a pick 'em now depending on your priorities and if you don't mind the lights dimming and a personal space heater.
Here is my updated ~4.7 run where my 5800x stably exits the building that puts it right in step with your score @ 125mhz faster:
Like I said, it is a wash now 11th vs 5000. It comes down to silicon. It just takes Intel much more pull and heat to get it done.
How did you build out the 5800x? What chassis and GPU for the build?Rage Set likes this. -
Well, I did it to my work PC this weekend. And, about 30 minutes into the build I remembered even more clearly why I said hated enclosed cases. What a pain in the butt, LOL. I gave up on the idea of mounting the reservoir inside. Just too cramped for my style. So, I mounted it to the rear panel and I think I actually prefer that and would now do it by default. I think it looks better and filling the system is definitely a lot more convenient. But, it is what it is. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't. But, it'll be fine since I am not tinkering with this one... just using it.
I didn't notice that the 5000D Airflow has a dark tinted side panel. My preference would have been clear. Now I need to get some LED strips to have more light inside of the case. It's too dark.
I went from this:

Now it's back to work mining again...

I actually like the external reservoir setup. I've seen it on a few sff builds and it works. You just have so much crammed in there. Case looks good!
On a serious note, I don't think you have enough displays.....you really need to work on that....

Thank you. I do think it looks nice, but I really don't like the inconvenience. The reservoir on the outside was a fortunate afterthought and I think it is definitely the superior approach. It's not even visible since it is in the back, and in a corner. It is also a good way to making sure you don't have PC ventilation restricted by having the rear panel exhaust pushed up against the wall and blocking the air flow. You can't do that if the reservoir is in the way.
I would be lost without all three displays on my work computer. All three screens are filled with activity while I am working. I often have 2 to 3 Excel sheets, instant messaging client, Outlook and web browsers open and multi-tasking with all of them all day. Having to manage all of that on 1 or 2 screens would really suck. Alt+tab is not an acceptable substitute because I often need to look at things on each screen simultaneous rather than cycling through them.electrosoft, Clamibot, Rage Set and 1 other person like this. -

I only use one monitor on my benching/gaming/hobby monster PC. I don't want or need more than one screen. I only have three on the one I use for work for the reasons mentioned. Otherwise, I would have only one on that one as well. The amount of work I do with Excel and needing to work in multiple spreadsheets with a lot of columns is the primary reason why I need multiple screens for efficiency. But, it is also a huge help in terms of productivity when I need to compare photographs to documents the photos relate to, which is also something I do on a daily basis. Being able to view everything like that in a side-by-side is far more beneficial than alt+tab. If not for the business need, I would be doing it with one screen just as you are, because I don't like spending gobs of money on PC tech that doesn't make my machine run faster. But, know this... they are inexpensive AOC 1920*1080 144Hz VA panels. I spent less on 3 of them than many people do on one expensive monitor. I am not really into high-end displays at all. Because I don't like spending gobs of money on PC tech that doesn't make my machine run faster. (Yes, I said that a second time on purpose, LOL.)
Having 3 monitors also seems to be a little more ergonomic than 2 monitors. I make the center screen my main display. Otherwise, I find my head is pointed left and right all day long. It seems to be easier on my tired old man neck when the center panel is the primary display.
I don't game much lately because I don't have time for it, and I seldom tinker with NVIDIA Surround. If I were inclined to do that more often, having three eliminates the seam in the middle that is so distracting, but it still gives you a broad field of view for first- and third-person shooter titles. That makes it harder for the sneaky cotton-pickers to ambush you.Last edited: May 3, 2021 -
I am the complete opposite. I can't and won't do anything less than IPS. I can easily tell the difference between even the best of TN, VA and IPS panels from one another. I have bought and returned most of the 49'' monitors on the market. I want a 4K 144hz 1500nit HDR panel that is 32'' with HDMI 2.1 AND DP 1.4. Asus's up coming monitor is very close but for some dumb reason, they chose HDMI 2.0.Clamibot, Papusan, Mr. Fox and 1 other person like this.

Testing out the EVGA 3060 in WoW. It is, without a doubt, the quietest RTX card I've used to date. Zero coil whine and even with both fans going, a nice whisper like "whoosh!"
I always look for noise/whine old school with an empty paper towel cylinder (EPTC).
When I popped the KPE 3090 back in, loaded up WoW in Bastion which pulls ~380-400w+ in the hub and re-checked with the EPTC the KPE 3090 is definitely back to its nice quiet, former self.
EVGA is 2-0 so far.....

Ditto, IPS only for myself and it has been that way for quite some time. I tested the Samsung G7 and promptly returned it because of the VA shifting angles. I did acknowledge the higher refresh rate when playing, but the poor color gamut and VA panel angle limitations was an immediate deal breaker.Clamibot, Papusan, Mr. Fox and 1 other person like this. -
This is what my 3 panels are:
AOC C24G1 24" Curved Frameless Monitor, FHD 1080p, 1500R VA panel, 1ms 144Hz, VESA, 3-Year Zero Dead Pixels Black
I find them to be very good and within a price range that makes me happy. I paid about $145 each when on sale. No regrets. The combined cost of all three is substantially less than just one of my other monitor.
This is what my single panel is:
Acer Predator XB271HU bmiprz 27" WQHD (2560x1440) NVIDIA G-SYNC IPS Monitor, 144Hz (overclocking to 165Hz)
I absolutely love this monitor and 2560*1440 is my preferred resolution. I wish I had more just like it. Everything about it is wonderful. But, the price is totally unacceptable. I purchased it in May of 2018 on sale for $599.99 and I have never forgiven myself. It is about $100 less now, but still far too expensive for me to consider purchasing another. As much as I love it and wish all of my monitors were this one, I don't find the pleasure of owning it sufficient to justify the cost. The cost diminishes my pleasure in equal measure.Last edited: May 3, 2021electrosoft, Clamibot, Rage Set and 1 other person like this. -
I am using the 680X for this build. I really wanted to use it for a personal build but it is the only case I have available. The GPU is a watercooled Asus Strix 2080 TI OC (my last 2080 TI I have) hooked up to a EKWB Phoenix 280 of which I tucked into the second chamber. On a side note, I really wish EK did not discontinue the Phoenix series. I understand they were pricey but they allowed you connect via EK QD connectors custom watercooled components like this GPU.
I took out the fans that came with the case (I'll use them somewhere) and put in some extra Corsair HD single zone RGB fans that are controlled via switch.electrosoft, Clamibot, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -
Ditto on the IPS, the only panel left to replace on my assortment is my primary, got it while I was climbing back up from my hole. Its a refurbished 144hz Acer TN panel, by all means I think its pretty great for 120 USD off of Acer store via ebay. I've been tempted time and again with 21:9 over 16:9 for my primary, been eyeing it for years.
Kind of put it under wraps when all those LG panels had light bleed problems but I imagine it might be a little better now, anyone have experience with them here? Gaming or otherwise?
EDIT: Im embarrassed about my mess, picture tomorrow lolelectrosoft, Mr. Fox and Rage Set like this. -
The Corsair 680X is a really fantastic-looking case. It might even be better than the Lian Li. I like the wide body with the PSU standing on its side in the second chamber better than the typical bottom PSU mount in a narrower chassis. The only thing worse than that is the icky old way of mounting it up top. That really sucked, but that was back in the day before liquid cooling became totally common and more normal than air cooling.
I am down with a design concept of having a massive, cavernous case that is difficult to fill up because it has more space than there are parts to fill them. It would be nice to have one that holds a MO-RA 360 in front and a second MO-RA 360 in the top. Then you need a space large enough to put it. Maybe add a cushion on top and use it for an ottoman, LOL.Last edited: May 3, 2021Ashtrix, electrosoft and Rage Set like this. -

I love the Corsair approach of using the secondary chamber for the PSU with plenty of depth for proper cable management. The 540 uses the same approach and it is still my favorite case for working within and I only switched to the Phanteks because the KPE 3090 was too big and the 3x PCIe ports on the end require even more room.
The 680x continues that tradition, but that glass on the top and front would be the first thing I would toss and $250 is a bit pricey. It doesn't give the extra length I would seek over the 540, but it is much MUCH better looking than the 540 series.

Part of me wishes that I would have just left it alone and stuck with that awesome little aluminum frame open bench that I already had. It was working flawlessly and now I feel kind of silly for wasting any time and money on it. It certainly didn't look as polished and refined. To be honest it was all fine until CBR15 was the bog-standard and it was easy to measure and understand, then they launched CBR20 to measure tons of cores, well it was okay I guess, but threw off some of my scaling in mind personally then the CBR23 for the "World's fastest CPU core" bs of M1. Now we have this folks.
Completely different sets of use cases on DIY PCMR vs the pathetic ARM processor where you cannot even control the damn filesystem forget the stupid benchmark, we are reaching peaks of stupidity nowadays. I think it makes sense ? Windows is now handled by Surface trash team only kept alive due to the Enterprise AaS and Win32 ecosystem with GaaS pass.
Both on Android and iOS (known since first) filesystem is castrated, with Android 11 the Scoped Storage nukes all apps privileges to write to the user specific or any folders to one and NO you cannot bypass it as it's at Playstore level mandate, to check, any simple download you do won't be going into the easily visible folder on root of parition but it will go the appdata folder, and no filemanagers still not got that bs vetting process of submitting for permissions. Setting the bar for the next generation of mobile devices
3DMark Wild Life Extreme sets a high bar for the next generation of Android and iOS devices. Don't be surprised if the frame rate is low as the test is too heavy for many current phones and tablets. -
Sometimes its good to put a hobby on the backburner for a while and come back to it later, I am that way with multiplayer games lol. At first it was the most amazing thing ever when I was younger, but have been slowly stepping away from it until a few months ago where I just dropped off entirely. Still play a game here and there but its only ever campaign or maybe the occasional title with a coworker.
Now if I could just rid myself of this desire for 5800x/5950x and a 6900XT I would be set lol -
The mere concept that anyone attempts to play processor-intensive games on a phone or tablet is a joke in itself. I might play something like Flow Free or Bejeweled on a cell phone to kill time in an airport terminal or while waiting an inordinate amount of time in a doctor's office waiting room if the doctor is lagging on his appointment punctuality. But, those silly time-killers don't require a device with any level of performance. And, I certainly don't burn a lot of calories testing or worrying about how "powerful" my cell phone is. It's a stinking cell phone. It is supposed to make phone calls and text, not serve as a pathetic two-bit gaming device or a chintzy substitute for a PC, LOL.
-
Wow, 3DMark for phones? If you're gaming on a phone, you're not doing it right. Desktops, laptops, and consoles are the way to go, preferably desktops or laptops. The experience is vastly superior.
I just take my Ranger with me everywhere. It's a very rare occurrence for me to not be within 100 feet of it.

So I started evaluating some Z590 boards, from Asus. I know, I know. I am supposed to stay away from them, but my clients still desire them. I got them for good prices. For example, the Maximus XIII Hero, I got from Amazon Warehouse for $200 off its normal price. It was supposed to have major marks on it, yet the board appears brand new. Unless they are talking about the marks on the protective film....
I also have the Asus TUF Z590 Plus WIFI and Strix Z590-E Gaming mobos. For CPU's, I have the 10850K, 10900KF and I'm trying to find a 11900K for MSRP. I'll keep you guys updated.

I think if you can get them extra cheap it's perfectly fine as long as their mobo failures don't kill an expensive CPU. I despise ASUS, but have a Strix Z490-H. The only reason I have it is the same as your example. But, there's no way in hell I would pay retail, or close to it, for their buggy, failure-prone trash. Interesting. I've only ever had good experiences with Asus. A considerable amount of my hardware has been from them, and I've only once had one of their products stop working on me.
That product was a screen, which they replaced promptly after I did an RMA. I had like a week left on the warranty, so I was cutting it very close.
All brands have bad batches of hardware sometimes, but the way you're speaking suggests that this happens very frequently for Asus. If that's the case, then I may just be lucky to have gotten mostly good hardware from them.Mr. Fox likes this. -
I simply can't fathom ARM64 has reached peak gaming perf in terms of perf/Watt. I simply like PCs more than phones/tabs.
-
Asus's older mobos, in my opinion, were built very tough. Their modern mobos are overpriced trash. I had to replace both variants of my Zenith Extreme II mobos. Both @Johnksss and @Mr. Fox had to get their boards replaced along with their CPUs.
Asus is like the Intel of old, barely competing but still pricing everything higher than everyone due to their brand recognition.Ashtrix, Vasudev, electrosoft and 3 others like this. -
It also makes it hard to cut them any slack or give benefit of doubt with respect to having honorable intentions when every mobo seems to mysteriously have "user-induced damage" like bent CPU socket pins or water damage. Even my Rampage motherboard that had fan controllers catch on fire was "my fault" and "not covered under warranty" on my FIRST phone call to open a warranty claim. That was declared within the first 60 seconds of getting a support person on the phone. Never mind the fact that no fans were attached to it and I was using my Lampron fan hub with its own discrete power source. And, it took those losers a month to get a replacement in my hands. In the meanwhile, I moved to an X299 Dark and never looked back. The Rampage replacement was sold on eBay.
Had it been an EVGA board it would have been resolved with a cross-shipped replacement within 48 hours. That's where my bar is set now... so knock yourselves out, ASUS.Last edited: May 5, 2021 -

I ended up upgrading the wife's Ode to EVGA custom build with the EVGA 3060 that arrived Monday since she's fully into WoW as much, if not more, than myself and I've been playing since 2005.
I replaced her Asrock Z390, 9100f and EVGA 1060 6GB SC with an Asus B560, i5-11400 and EVGA 3060.
She games at 2560x1600 and went from a routinely chunky setting 7 to Ultra 10 60fps everywhere so she's very happy now. Turning on RT definitely is a big hit so she plays without it.
In the last ~8 months since she first stepped foot into Azeroth, she has gone from gaming on an Alienware 18 with an 860m to a 970m to a desktop with a 9100f + 1060 to now an Intel i5-11400 + 3060. -
Its always nice when couples can share the same pass times to varying levels of degree.
I surprisingly wasnt that into it with my ex, though she would scream and get overly excitable playing overwatch which I suppose is the opposite to my general demeanor.
If its fun, its fun. If its not, time to try something else
Simple is sometimes best. She would fume over a lost match of overwatch. Which would confuse me, I dont mind losing a game, if its fun then who the hell cares? If its not then maybe its time to put it down for a while or take a break etc etc

One thing that's gets me every time is that she doesn't mind the noise of fans. Not even my servers bother her with their Deltas. Lol. She's the blind one of the marriage and I'm clearly the deaf one. Server noise and loud music will do that.Ashtrix, Vasudev, electrosoft and 2 others like this. -
It is a wonder that I am not deaf. After years of heavy metal, thousands of rounds of gunfire and years of using pneumatic air tools like impact wrenches and air chisels with no hearing protection, I should be deaf. Thankfully, my hearing is still pretty good. My dad is just about deaf though, so I should not count my chickens before they hatch. My vision is also good and if I don't count colorblindness it is better than average vision according to my optometrist. My eyes are very light sensitive though. I cannot see well in low light situations.

I love the industrial look and I have been eyeing those radiators. How are they? It is hard to find good looking radiators that aren't painted that perform very well.Vasudev, electrosoft, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -
They are actually really good. They do an extremely good job of cooling and I am super happy with them. It is difficult for me to believe I got them so dirt cheap. They are a little thicker than your average radiator due to the outer frame, which makes using a case like this one even more of a challenge. There is not enough space for fans between the radiator and motherboard.
They are made very similar to the MO-RA 360. The core looks much like an automotive radiator and the outer frame is also similar to the MO-RAs.
The other thing that works surprisingly well is the CPU water block. I was as shocked at how well it works in addition to the radiators. I was expecting the water block to be a piece of junk that I would need to replace. I was totally wrong about that. It works very nicely. It won't win any beauty contests, but there is nothing to complain about in terms of how well it works.Last edited: May 5, 2021Vasudev, Clamibot, electrosoft and 2 others like this. -

Before the pandemic, she was scared of computers. She barely touched them and that was only if she had to and she only used her iphone and ipad for gaming and checking her email.
Once we were on lock down, she had to have a home bound system and really had no choice. When I initially set her up with my Alienware 18 w/ 860m I told her over and over, "There is nothing you
can break that I can't fix. Explore and if you get in trouble or unsure just call for me."
First month (or two) was numerous call outs but eventually they started to wane as she became more comfortable until it was maybe once a week. In the interim she went from being afraid to heading up her small group for building out a website. Throw WoW in there and
now she can't imagine NOT having her own computer at home.
I'm sensitive to high frequency noise (as I'm sure you've noticed over threads), but her? Nope. When I was pointing out the coil whine on my 3090 and then 3070, she just looked at me like I was daft. I told her I would switch out her EVGA 140mm AIO fans for Arctic Cools since they're much
quieter and she said she thought the computer was already, "crazy quiet." Sounds like your wife is blessed with the same noise canceling ability too.Vasudev, Papusan, Rage Set and 1 other person like this.
