Hmm. Maybe I spoke too soon. I'm not interested in any nonsense. If Ryzen only works well when it is allowed to function dynamically or adaptively, then I think I'll pass and stick with what works for me. If that means no newer hardware purchases for a long time, then so be it.

Guys I have someone willing to sell me a Gigabyte 3080Ti Gaming OC for MSRP plus taxes. so ($1600 shipped)

I’m not a fan of the non reference board design of this Gaming OC 3080Ti. This makes waterblock choices limited. But I have found some chinese branded blocks available.(Mostly really ugly RGB blocks though)

The bios is only 350 silent mode /370 gaming mode watts. So I am not sure if an alternative bios is even available that’ll provide more power to provide full potential of a 3080Ti.

More than likely, I will have to just solder some tiny components on to the card. And I can get another 40% power to work around this.

I could get the card for $1,600 shipped for a 3080Ti Gaming OC (Brand new) The purchaser of the card bought it from
his work (Bestbuy) with intentions of scalping apparently lol. Well, he see’s the resale of 3080Ti’s aren’t really all that impressive now due to LHR and what not. So he’s gonna actually return it, or sale it to a friend. (2) 3080Ti’s popped up at his local bestbuy, a customer retuned them both at the same time due to LHR as well. So my friend on steam bought one without a 2nd thought at all, thinking he could just go re-sale it for like $2,400-$2,500 or something silly like that. Well now, he’s seeing nicer AIB models like even the FTW3 available on ebay for roughly $1800+ taxes+ shipping of course.

    What are you guys thoughts?

It really depends on how fast I could move my 2080Ti’s (At a great price of course) My wife wouldn’t dare allow me to just outright buy another video card, or toy in general lol.

Man, i’m all over the place with this build that’s for sure.

If you want to get it to get it then get it but....

    Downturn in Crypto
China (and other countries) cracking down on mining
Limiter cards that aren't as appealing (as seen by the scalping prices)

I mean if you can get it for MSRP go for it, but the idea of hardware limited cards doesn't sit right with me and I'm not a fan of mining.

What's your budget and what do you really want? If you're settling with a 3080ti secretly wanting a 3090 you'll regret it down the road.

I wouldnt bother with the 3080ti personally but my bias is stemmed from the mining side of things.

If it were me, I'd spend the extra $200 + taxes for the FTW3. I'd consider it to be worth the modest extra cost. ($200 isn't chump change, but when you're already looking at $1600 for an inferior product, I think it's better to just dig a little bit deeper and get something that is going to do a better job overall rather than compromise and wish you had decided differently later on.)
Yes, totally. That fits the same train of thought about spending a little extra for the FTW3. Same exact logic.

If you want to save money, just buy a 3060 for playing games and call it a day. If you're not chasing numbers and trying to turn impressive benchmark scores, anything more than a 3060 is a waste of money for playing games.

I would not factor in mining ability. I think that mining is going to further vaporize and end up not being an endeavor worth pursuing in the near future. I think there are some dark political forces and nefarious characters actively working to undermine crypto (no pun intended).

That is really what brother @tps3443 needs to spend his money on. It'll open up a can of whoop ass on that 3080 Ti. If I had the discretionary funds I would take it off your hands in a heartbeat and sell the 2080 Ti in my work PC. I didn't like how much it initially cost me but I do have to say out of all the GPUs I have owned over the years this one (with the Hydro Copper block installed) is my all-time favorite.

Yes. I have been very picky to whom I offered this card to. I have had offers of 2.7k+ and I have declined them. That could have been a stupid mistake on my part but once I tested their OC knowledge, the buyers failed and they were either going to try to flip the card for more or use it exclusively in their mining rigs. What many do not know is that I'm only truly asking for what I paid (cost, tax and shipping), that's it. I'm not going over my original invoice cost. In the meantime, I am going to keep it close and may be, just may be I can get that damn block that I've been queued up for and predicted wouldn't have until the middle of the summer.

It would look purdy paired with an EVGA x570s motherboard down the road....

on the other hand, @tps3443 might be better served selling his two 2080ti's and picking up your KPE 3090.

That’s one thing I dislike about the kingpin cards, is that AIO cooler.. The AIO cooler is nice, and considering its included as a “get me by” but it’s just inconvenient and wasteful at the same time.. Evga could possibly sell the kingpin model without a cooler, but I think evga would be gimping how many potential buyers there would be. Evga is always selling the kingpin which is something extreme, to the average buyer who is extremely casual lol.

    Kingpin 2080Ti for-sale
    “NEVER OVERCLOCKED”
    lol

Also, when evga sells a kingpin card I think they should include a “Kingpin Hydro Copper” (Place marker/voucher) in the box. it would essentially guarantee you the waterblock for purchase. Even if they’re out of stock. Your voucher puts you directly ahead of anyone else. (So scalpers cannot possibly be above you in line)

Thats how I have been when ever someone wants to trade down to one of my 5700XT's though for different reasons. When I am looking at a potential transaction I have to ask a few probing questions to make sure they even have the card otherwise I run the risk of getting robbed.

The second 3080 I recently acquired is working quite well, I like that the ftw3 card is thicker but also shorter in length. Makes it much easier to work with in my TU150, sits perfectly on my low profile fans I have in there.

In my case I need something more powerful since I'm chasing 120 fps in all games. :p

That said, the RTX 3060 TI should suffice for me. Unfortunately I can't find one for MSRP and I won't pay even a cent above MSRP. It's MSRP or nothing for me. I'm not paying ludicrous prices for computer parts.

I can outwait all the scalpers. Patience is a virtue that is duly rewarded.

Well its right around the corner. Video card prices have already come down so much in just the past week. (Possibly from LHR variants). Unfortunately, AIB card prices have jumped wayyy up over what the Founders Edition models cost.

    RTX3070 FE 8GB is $499.99
    RTX3070 FTW3 8GB is $699.99
    RTX3070Ti 12GB $599.99

So technically, I would say you could spend up to $700 for a 3070FE.

The RTX3000 series was such a good deal initially during the paper launch, that board partners made their own new prices for them I think.

You are a better man/woman than me, I gave in a while ago. Though I did sell off a bunch of decom equipment so most of the expense didnt come directly out of my pocket :3

Ive been heavily thinking about getting the watercooled 3080 eGPU box from Gigabyte to cap off my investment into mining / gaming on my P750FM. It would be my first experience with eGPU and Thunderbolt though. have to do some research first and see if there are any issues I should know about.

With the eGPU setup, you can expect to lose some frames due to a bandwidth bottleneck between the system and GPU from the thunderbolt interface. However, I hear this bottleneck is eliminated with the newer Tiger Lake systems and thunderbolt 4.

That being said, it still sounds like a fun project, and is definitely still worth doing if it drastically increases performance.

I'm still waiting on someone to create a 17 inch version of the Eurocom Commander 2 laptop with a Z chipset motherboard and thunderbolt 4. That would give me a laptop with an overclockable desktop CPU and eliminate the headache of hunting down MXM GPUs. It would be the ultimate laptop + eGPU setup.

My fraud radar antenna usually goes up when someone wants to "trade" rather than buy. Trades of dissimilar items of similar value make sense when you have something you do not use that someone you know wants or needs. Otherwise, the premise of trading something superior for something inferior and/or of lesser value is illogical and a major red flag that something isn't right. Unless it is someone I know and trust, and the trade is offered as a kind gesture stemming from an existing friendship, I generally won't even acknowledge their offer.

So far so good! Quite pleased. Initially it wouldnt initialize but after a weekend of troubleshooting I determined that it was actually just the Precision towers I am using, for what ever reason they refuse to initialize 2x 3080's :/ Thanks Dell.

I am probably just going to move them over to my desktop during the holiday weekend, its running all the time anyways due to it also being my Plex server so it just makes more sense long term. Of all things my ITX board supports bifurcation better than anything Dell has produced, but well thats what I get for using free hardware, cant complain too much about it.

I have attempted to trade a few times but every single time it fizzles out after I ask for a time stamp picture of the card in operation. If plugging in a GPU for a picture is too much trouble then you dont actually have 1800+ worth of hardware to begin with. IMHO of course. Its either that or they value my card at MSRP while they value theirs for 2.5x MSRP lol

I think I will probably get the Gigabyte 3080 eGPU sometime soon, I believe the P750DM-G motherboard has thunderbolt but I will have to double check that. Even if mining goes away I can still use it for gaming :)

True there is some loss but Im not worried about it, mining doesnt use hardly any bandwidth and it will be plugged into an external monitor as well. I originally dismissed it since I thought it would have the MXM card in it which means its actually a 3070 but it turns out its actually a 3080 desktop card under the hood.

I dont plan to get anything from new from Intel, no justification or desire.

Thunderbolt 4 isnt really looked upon fondly as the bandwidth is the same but you are no longer communicating (or finding out if) through the PCH and instead going straight to the CPU, akin to the Alienware Graphics Amp which was silently taken out back and shot.

I'm not too crazy on RGB, and never understood those who love it so much. I only keep RGB on for my mouse and keyboard as it acts as a backlight for the keyboard and so I can see my mouse better in the dark, and that's it, but to each his own I guess.

I am actually pretty excited that EVGA is making a DARK X570S board and a FTW (not really designed for us). It will have feature parity with the current Z590 DARK and will allow 5000+ on the memory. Certain Asus X570 boards already do this but I suspect EVGA is going to be better. Does this mean that Asus is going to be forced to produce an Apex-like mobo for AMD? I do not think so. Here's hoping they produce a TRX40 mobo too!!!

I'm going to keep my Gigabyte board and just slap my golden 5800X into it. I'm still trying to get a 5950X for MSRP.

Yes that is very exciting news. I would say the best news ever since the first Zen CPU release. Lack of excellent enthusiast motherboard options has really held them back.

The 5950X does pop up on Amazon and Best Buy from time to time at MSRP. Not as often as the 5900X but I'll get one sooner or later. I'd love to see what you can do with your chiller, 5950X and 3090 KP.

    Picked up another 11900k

    1.4v BIOS pulling 1.412 max under load at 80 temp and 295w for CB23 @ 5.3ghz

Compared to my (RIP) Best Buy 11900k 1.525 BIOS pulling 1.539 max under load at 98 and ~370w and I had to take the front of the case off to get maximum air in there....

Both using the same EVGA CLC 360mm

    SP94 11900k 1.4v BIOS 5300mhz CB23.jpg

More importantly for me is it is a low leakage chip so lower range runs ran noticeably cooler than any other chips I've tested even if it is pulling a little more making it suitable for X170KM use (or X170SM if it ever gets a BIOS update support either OEM or Prema). For the 4.5-4.7 range it stayed around 58 max with fans at 60% (my fan curve). Pure stock (4800) 62 and that was without dialing in the actual lowest Vcore which comes next.

I'll be setting this one aside for when I eventually find a killer deal on an X170 over the next few months.

MSI's Bios update for the MSI Z590-A Pro chopped down those ridiculous SA/IO default settings for 3600+ G1 settings from 1.6 to 1.4 now. I pushed them lower to 1.1/1.2 to lock in 3600 since there's no way an X170 is going to ever do more than that (if ever).

ASUS is making an X570S refresh for one basic, Strix, ProArt, Crosshair total 4, confirmed already. GB did already and I think they also put a new revision (they already had 3 revisions on 1.x) to X570 Aorus Xtreme (rev 2.0.). MSI also joined as usual.

They are having an Extreme Crosshair variant vs their already passive cooled Crosshair Dark Hero. They also mentioned that X570S chipset is not a new one, it's the same silicon in X570 but a firmware/AGESA update. So far none of these boards were reviewed. And no user feedback as well. It's going to a huge wait for EVGA board though, 7 months since Z590 DARK and still no news, maybe in the next week Z590 DARK queue starts.

The beautiful thing about the AMD series is while they use PBO to achieve a natural clock optimization and people go on and on about curve optimizing, in the end they will respond to core overclocking tools like Intel and you can pump as much Vcore as you like into them as long as the cooling is there for benching. Like all silicon, there are a range of chip qualities too so binning is in effect.

If EVGA does as good (or better) of a job as Asus, and depending on chip quality and cooling, you can push AMD chips pretty far using good 'ole tried and true methods. Here is my favorite WoW content creator pushing his 5950x to 5.4ghz all core:

    @Mrfox there is a
Wow, that’s actually pretty good. R23 doesn’t like suicide runs lol. ( Being a 10 minute long test) I have been using R23 quite a bit lately. And usually if it can get through R23 it is (relatively) stable. An excellent benchmark to use before moving on to longterm stability testing.

Looks like Vince (Kingpin) is directly involved in the Dark development and trying to get his mind wrapped around the AMD quirks with things like memory overclocking, F-clock weirdness, etc. But, the Dark is definitely being built with extreme overclocking as the primary objective.

The Project Hydra info is interesting. It's also interesting that AMD isn't putting more effort into things and Ryzen Master is so messed up because they "don't care" about overclocking or that their own product is so poorly designed that it can kill their CPUs.

This is an unfortunate example of one reason I have a hard time embracing AMD. As a company, they are still pretty half-a$$ed and ignorant/inexperienced in so many ways. (They hired Azor, so that says something about them that is not very flattering.) With Intel, this sport has been a high priority for a long time.

Yep, it will be fun benching the new coming phone processors that need the tacky touch friendly Win 10 11 to work properly (new scheduler to boost the two different type cores) :(

I think I will pass on that opportunity. The Redmond Retards have their filthy claws in all of the hardware manufacturers. It is unfortunate that they (hardware manufacturers) lack character and are willing to bow to Micro$lop. That is like the tail wagging the dog.

The future looks damn dark bro Fox. Intel will try to please M$ as I said. Or they will loose a lot of the market share for processors. They simply won't put all the money into DIY/retail chips for power enthusiasts. Most likely a push for server chips and chips for thin and flimsy + OEM desktop builders. Where the money is. Tomorrow's Intel mainstream desktop chips is in short, built up from notebook processors for slimy and thin. Same arch but with higher power limits.

Edit. They should have scrapped iGPU in processors for desktops but the OEM need/want it as you know. Even AMD will try and grab this market with 6 or was it 7000 series chips.

I think you are correct. I honestly have no expectation that anything good at all will surface again in the computer technology industry for a long time. Maybe even never again. The wrong people are in charge, their views about technology absolutely suck and their focus is on producing pathetic low-power disposable trash that fits in your shirt pocket or can be hidden in your butt crack. And, there is an army of zombie consumer idiots that thinks the way they do and want that sucky trash tech. Those zombies will gobble up that digital dung as fast as they can push it out of their digital foundries rectums.

Lol OMG i’m dying here man. I was going to tell you something, and must have gotten distracted and like laid my phone down and forgot.

Ok so yeah, there was a guy on Overclock.net selling binned 5950X’s and he was posting a few here and there, and getting them regularly apparently. I know you mentioned that platform as a possibility in your future, with the addition of a evga X570 Dark board.

I don’t see any on there now, but they just pop up randomly it seems from the same guy.

Oh, and I am getting something REALLY REALLY COOL from @Rage Set

I figure anyone on here who’s been following this desktop part thread knows what it is.

My (2) 2080Ti’s are gone, lol. Working on getting the rest together. It’s coming along smoothly so far.

    Look at this..

Intel Books Two 3 nm Processor Orders at TSMC Manufacturing Facilities

This is a shocking move, they barely even started on their BS IDM2.0 plan where they were supposed to make some Silicon on Intel fabs plus get some tech from TSMC and collab like their Intel Xe GPUs but now this is crazy, they are ordering 3nm parts ? and the news mentions CPUs. Guess what those would be lol, I'm sure they are thin and light BGA trash, probably Raptor / Meteor Lake parts for BGA laptop garbage.

And yep the future is grim. Not just the market-share for desktop power users and enthusiasts is being slowly sidelined, I bet this is the reason why we got RKL on 14nm but not on 10nm like that TigerLake garbage BGA. Could also be wrong on it since RKL might not have worked well on that node, too many Schrodinger cats only Intel has the real cat since they probably had a lot of design iterations for LGA1200 RKL. Also on the same note, the OSes are becoming DUMB on the front end UI while locking down and closing options and user choice in the core parts of OS applies to Android, Windows for the first time thanks to Win11 puke and Apple as always. And consumers are equally wanting the same garbage, If people were repulsive against these pathetic moves there wouldn't be Windows11 but rather Windows 7 Service Pack 3.

But we still have AMD to kick Intel, their Genoa is going to crush for sure. The rumors are pegging at increased core count for total CCDs to 80-90+ from current top 64 cores. That will not only wreck Intel but also Anandtech's uberhyped ARM. Esp their Neoverse N2 and V1 platforms. With added SMT and all it will be superb, but the shame is AMD still didn't launch the Threadripper Genesis Peak which is supposed to be based on Zen 3.

Maybe we will see consumer chips from TCMC and high-margin server processors from own node :) And both the future AMD and Intel chips will overclock equal good bad.

Report: Server Chip Shortage Worsens, Intel and AMD in Tight Supply

AMD and Intel cannot supply enough server CPUs.

Inventec, for example, reportedly claimed that supply of server processors from Intel and AMD is tight. Both CPU makers usually give priority to production of high-margin server processors over regular chips, but it looks like this is not enough to meet demand.

Stealing capacity from TSMC is also a new nice move to try destroy for AMD.

LoL. No worries. That happens to me once in a while, too.

I would love to have a binned 5950X and an X570 Dark to experiment with, but not as much as I would love not spending as much as it would take to buy them. That would be a very costly experiment.

I don't mind spending money when I believe my risk of being disappointed is very low, but I am very apprehensive about spending money on something if I believe there is a moderate chance I will regret it. I am not a risk taker or adventurous when it comes to adopting something new and expensive. The more expensive it is, the less adventurous I become. I am worried that I will quicky get frustrated and bored with something that is a struggle to overclock to impressively high clock speeds.

But, I would be lying if I said I am not curious and open to the possibility of being impressed. I would welcome that. It has been a while since I have been.

I'm surprised 3nm has come this early, and am actually wondering if it really is 3nm between the source and drain of each transistor. It was just a few years ago that we were using 22nm-16nm transistors and now we are at 3nm lol. My biggest concern is what will really happen below about 1-1.5nm as blocking the current is the biggest issue at hand, (or at least I think.)

Hopefully Intel can catch up a bit as I feel AMD is getting a bit too comfortable in their position, and competition is always the best for the consumer :)
