And exactly what part might that be?
-
what do u mean? the fugly part or the sweeping the floor part? the whole setup on both counts, actually!
it just looks so janky, haha. but i was never one to promote form over function, so its all good
whats the actual hardware currently installed in this, anyways? the specs in your sig?

Mechanical keyboard lovers, I just bought a new mechanical keyboard because my Thermaltake Poseidon Z Brown Switch was having double hit key bounce issues (even after cleaning). I got one with real Cherry MX Red Switches, it's this one: Gigabyte Force K83 Cherry MX Mechanical Keyboard ( https://www.gigabyte.com/Keyboard/FORCE-K83#kf)
So far it's been my favourite keyboard I've ever used & it was really good value too (probably best value mechanical keyboard you can get), because they've kept it minimal with no lighting you're just paying for the quality of switches - very satisfying to game & type on (touch typist) - I'd recommend this one! I'll report back if it ever develops issues. -
Yeah, that's what I thought, You're about anesthetics over convenience. This setup will constantly change as I start swapping in and out parts. If I wanted the "hey look at me setup" I would have just bought a case went all out. Since I would be trying to keep it and the parts till the end of time. Which I have no desire what so ever to do, but thanks for the input.jaybee83 likes this.

oh i totally got that part, dont get me wrong. for your needs its absolutely perfect and will surely serve its purpose beautifully. i was actually trying to point out the irony of your "janky looking" setup smoking like 99.9% of other "perfectly styled and looks-tuned" systems out there. its basically the same reaction ud get when showing off a laptop that beats a desktop in specs and performance numbers
id choose your extreme performance but "janky" setup over an all-RGB tempered glass build with cable combs and the whole shebang but "mainstream" parts / performance any day, every day!Johnksss likes this. -
Yes, we hear this all the time when doing something different. Like running dry ice in a laptop or running an ac unit to cool it. People had lots to say about that. All negative in the beginning that's for sure.
Funny you should mention that. I do have all blue cables/ Corsair memory fans/ vrm mount and fan kit/Kingpin heat sink shroud since no one is selling the actual OEM water block./shorter cut tubes with direct paths. 9 RGB fans sitting on holding list in amazon account. (Since 3 months ago). And remove all motherboard protection for 5C to 10C water temps.
Yes, I could make it "un janky" and convert to "bling" I may do that at some point for modrigs, but not today.
Wonder what this one would be called....
@Mr. Fox
Some more ideas.

LOL omg are those THREE 360 rads in push/pull config? i wonder if CPU / GPU would even register above ambient temps with this setup
love it!

1 360 and 2 480's. And they are all different sizes to boot.
Good question.jaybee83 likes this. -
yep on second look they all seem to have either different THICCnesses (couldnt resist ^^) or fan diameters. quite the setup! jealous...Johnksss likes this.

My office is still torn up, but I skipped working on it after work to put this together. I still need to attach the thin radiator up front. It's just sitting there. I also decided that I am not even going to mess with RGB fan crap. I will let the person that buys the View 71 have the 3 120mm Riing RGB fans and controller along with the 140mm Riing fans (3) that came with it. And, I am not putting on the Phanteks RGB rings either. I did put my magnetic LED strips under the motherboard tray so I can turn on the lights to see what I am doing. Those will stay off most of the time. I also didn't bother using the buttons. Motherboard already has it's own, so I will just leave those holes empty.
I think it looks awesome. That hardcore industrial look is always nicer than gamer-boy bling (to me anyway).

Looking good.
How long are those hex bolts for the fans? -
Thanks. They are 30mm. Here is where I bought them a while back. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015BSAQ0OJohnksss likes this.

I think I need to get an open air setup with a closed loop setup like you boys. -
I think I am going to have both in back. This seems to work better. The GPU pump doesn't like the radiator being that low (in front). It chatters like that (which was also mentioned in the EVGA Hybrid instructions as a "no-no" for the radiator orientation).
OK, time for bed.
Congrats on the new CPU @Talon. Looks like a really good one, bro. -
Because there is no where for the air to escape. You usually have to turn the radiator with the fittings up for the air to surface. Then it usually heads for the reservoir. With the hybrids they do not have that so the pump gets air trapped in it and the only way is to keep the radiator higher than the pump.
Better watch out though @jaybee83 might consider it "janky", but then it's you so that may never cross his mind.

Congrats on the open bench, I think I prefer cases due to appearance & dust extraction, but this open bench probably suits you better: easy to get to the components & possibly better temperatures. You get better temperatures? -
The GPU closed loop has a cocktail of whatever Thermaltake uses for the Floe Riing AIO and whatever EVGA had in the hybrid cooler. When I put the two halves together, both sides had whatever was in them and I lost maybe a teaspoon of fluid. (I cut the EVGA 120mm radiator hoses at the radiator barbs and the Floe Riing hoses at the pump barbs, held the hoses up straight the whole time before plugging the ends of the hoses with the quick-disconnect fittings.)
This is what I am using for the CPU. http://www.xs-pc.com/coolant/ec6-coolant-clear
Yeah, the dust was one of the things that caused me to do a lot of thinking, especially considering where I live. I love the way the View 71 looks. Probably my favorite case... gorgeous. The only thing wrong with it is it is a case. I don't think I would have liked any case better than the View 71. But, this is definitely more my speed. As far as the temps go, it seems like they are lower. But, I haven't really had much time for testing to confirm it.
I love the way the Praxis WetBench is made and looks. As Brother @Johnksss mentioned, there is a bit of flex to the mobo tray in the front part that overhangs. That is only there for aesthetic purposes., so it's not a big deal. It only flexes if you push on it, and there's not really any reason to be bothered by it. About the only thing that I can see so far that would have made it better is if the motherboard tray would have been made out of thicker steel, or if the accent plates (colored plastic sheet like Plexiglass) would have been made of like 1/4 inch anodized billet aluminum. That would probably double the cost of it, and it is already somewhat overpriced. I doubt I would have been willing to pay any more for it than what I did. It is very sturdy though. I like it a lot.Last edited: Jun 21, 2018 -
Dusting takes all of 1 minute or less with a dust buster. And no case to take apart and outside to do it. So at that point, way less wiping going on.
Right now i'm just using purified water. I still need to clean my lines with hydrogen peroxide and then push pull the lines with a shop towel. Was using 50/50 Merc radiator fluid for a few years, but once I swapped out the parts, been trying to get the lines back clear. -
Robbo99999 Notebook Prophet
If you ever get the time to do stress testing on it to compare temperatures like for like with your case vs open bench then I'd be interested to see what you find, (assuming you've already got stress test results from when you had your case).Last edited: Jun 21, 2018 -
Since the temps were already pretty decent before, I did not save much in the way of temperature examples. (I am almost positive there are examples in this thread showing temps, but I did not save them to my Imgur account.) It is 106°F outside right now and my house is 78°F (about 8° hotter than my normal ambient temps) with the AC running full blast trying to push it down to 70°F and the temps are every bit as good as they were with the house at 70°F. So, yeah... seems like they are better now. I did not do anything with the thermal paste when I moved the parts to the WetBench. I just took the water block off and put it back on. Did not even re-spread the paste that was on it, LOL.
Side note: Applied new BIOS v1401 about a week ago and it seems like the system is more stable now with lower voltage. I am running 52x6 with the voltage setting on "Auto" in the BIOS. The only manual overclock settings applied are the core multiplier and RAM settings, and maxed out power limits (amps and watts).Last edited: Jun 22, 2018Johnksss, Robbo99999 and KY_BULLET like this. -

That's good then, lower temps on the open bench! -
I am probably going to scrap my current 7980XE later this year. Looks like X299 is a dead platform. Either switching to LGA 3647 or SP3 probably......
Also needs new GPUs considering I dont really have a working one right now.hmscott likes this. -
Do you mean a dead platform for you or are you speaking in general?
-
To me personally, yes. X299 lacks many things and it doesnt seem motherboard manufacturers are working on fixing it. For example, there isnt a single working, usable PLX x299 board.
In general, I would not be surprised Intel moving away from X299. LGA 2066 simply wasnt a good choice to host HCC/XCC chips due to I/O and power draw. The rumor is that cascade lake x is a net increase in power draw. Especially with the new 28 core moving to LGA 3647, I wouldnt be surprised LGA 3647 takes over and LGA 2066 go EOL.
Might move to x399.... depending on the new boards...Last edited: Jun 24, 2018 -
So this board doesn't work?

The slots are 1 slots on x16 multigpu configuration. I need to use single slot cards. Not exactly practical.
-
Okay, you lost me.
If you are running 4 dual slot gpus then you are fine.
If you try running 3 slot gpus, then not so much.
And if you really need that much space then run it in a mining rig setup. -
With the soft extensions?
I mean, that board will work but... yeah, I do not find it ideal. I certainly ready to test out some of the newer stuff coming anyways and I am not keen on upgrading boards within the same gen generally.Johnksss likes this. -
Probably haha. Arent you excited about all the stuff that was demoed? Intel finally brought out the hexachannel 28 cores. AMD has an interesting way of bringing out the 32 core but cripples the I/O. I am interested in mostly the AMD products tbh. You?
-
I haven't been on the forum much and probably won't be much this week due to my office remodel project. The house is a mess now, LOL. All my office stuff piled up in the living room, dining room and hallway.
But, I did take a break for some cable management on the WetBench. Amazing what cable combs, velcro and zip ties can do to tidy things up.

Ha, that's right, your office needs 'overclocking' right now! -
I think I need to be overclocked right now as well. I'm not even half way finished and I'm ready to be done with it. I took vacation time to do that project and I'm hoping to have at least a day or two to enjoy it before I have to go back to the grindstone.

Chiller.... at 5ghz though.
I am more interested on the GPU side though.... Volta is already 1 year old tech so...Johnksss likes this. -
Well, it's been a long time in the making but my project is finally nearing completion. Finishing up making sure there are no leaks or anything after a small leak over the weekend during my leak test. Plan on buying custom sleeved cables for my GPU and the 24pin power cable for my motherboard and getting cable combs, but I'm happy to finally have the thing up and running and almost done. Ignore the ugly lights as I have not gone through and changed anything or even put the panels back on the case but soon I should be able to begin OCing.
Edit: Okay wtf am I doing wrong that I can never post images on NBR?
KY_BULLET, Convel and Robbo99999 like this. -
Ah yes, your right. They did mention it being a chiller.
Volta is far older than that.....And really shouldn't matter unless it's 50 to 100 percent faster than current gen. A new GPU just to get 5 FPS more is not a real improvement....unless you were only getting 5 FPS in the first place. But still, interesting all the same.
Looking good.
Only one recommendation. And that is.....use the blue shop towels. they are way better for catching water and are also reusable.
-
Congrats. Looking forward to seeing more about it. Nice looking setup, bro.

Using the BBCode option is as easy as clicking on the blue "Copy" button and then pasting that code into your post.
You can also right click the image and choose "Open image in a new tab" and use that URL. (The URL in the new tab that opens is a direct link to the image.)

Looks good! Let us know more about it when you're done. -
I estimate that VRM setup is designed to take around 1300-1500w steady state, transient up to 2000/2400w. For 28 cores.
As for Volta, I already tested a Titan V awhile ago and I currently have some big discounts on GV100 Quadros but as you said, its not that big of a improvement and Volta has other issues. Tensor core is very nice though but still...Johnksss likes this. -
Well, little by little. Got the closet done and the drywall textured and primed. Tomorrow I will paint and lay the laminate flooring, then Thursday install the bi-folding door and trim work. I'm ready for this to be finished. I'm tired and sore, LOL. I'm good at carpentry work, but do not care for it. But, I'm not going to pay someone else to do it. Will make a nice new home for Trómos and Machete, and the turdbook I use for work.

Thank you. It will be nice having a place to store all of my junk, LOL.
I'd really like to slap the idiot that thought it would be cute to build a house with angled walls. Opposing corners in my office are like that. What a waste of space. I suppose they thought it would add character, but I think the architect that designed it that way was a character. -
Looks awesome. Nice job!
