Thank you. I appreciate the kind words.
It is not as loud as it sounds on the video. The chiller is no louder than a small refrigerator. You can definitely hear it, but only because it is not closed up in a cabinet or stuffed up against a wall and between cabinets like the one running in the kitchen. It seems that background noises are greatly magnified in videos created using my phone. One of these days I will try to get a good camera and a microphone that doesn't pick up and amplify all background audio.
If I crank all 12 fans full blast, (16 counting the RAM fans) that can be a little obnoxious, but I seldom have a reason to do that. I keep forgetting to turn them back on after the chiller has been turned off, and it sure doesn't take long for the water to get hot with no air blowing through the radiators. It really helped me recognize how effective those two radiators are (as long as the fans are turned on) at removing heat... definitely more effective than I realized.
What is also pretty cool (pun intended) is how well having chilled water running through the radiators cools my office. It's like running an air conditioner when the fans are turned on. The air getting blown through the radiators is quite chilly. It literally feels like air conditioning. And, I suppose it is pretty much the same principle except that it uses cold water instead of refrigerant.

Wish I had the time and resources that you have. I really enjoy overclocking, and pushing hardware, but alas I do not. In fact I sold my system last month, as I hadn't the time nor the money for the continual merry go round of upgrading. Life has brought a new bride into my life from my trip to the Philippines, and priorities have changed obviously.
Keep up the awesome work @ Mr.Foxjclausius, Johnksss, Robbo99999 and 7 others like this. -
Wow, congratulations. What an excellent way to celebrate the Christmas holidays. I am super happy for you and your bride. I think Brother @Donald@HIDevolution might have me beat by a couple of years, but I have had mine for 32 years and I love her more than ever. She is a real blessing from the Lord and I'd be lost without her. Priorities have to change, and that's OK and it is appropriate that they do. If they did not it would be pretty messed up.

What is conformal coating? I haven't ever used that.Rage Set likes this.

Is this the stuff you are using?
Interesting. Don't know why I have never heard about or seen this before. Sounds like a good thing to use for liquid metal. I see it is available in a spray can as well. Might be good for coating laptop mobos to protect them from liquid metal. Does it peel off in a plastic film if you want to remove it later? Like for soldering, for example? Or, is it a pain to remove?
Conformal coating material is a thin polymeric film which conforms to the contours of a printed circuit board to protect the board's components. Typically applied at 25-250 μm[1](micrometers) thickness, it is applied to electronic circuitry to protect against moisture, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes. Most circuit board assembly firms coat assemblies with a layer of transparent conformal coating, which is lighter and easier to inspect than potting.

It's another secret weapon when using LM and with it, I no longer need to use certain protections like nail polish with kapton tape. Most importantly, it can survive temps upwards to 200'C and downwards to -40'C. I use it on all of my delids. https://www.amazon.com/MG-Chemicals...=1545608877&sr=8-2&keywords=conformal+coating
Note: This offers superior protection against LM and other corrosives than nail polish.Johnksss, Robbo99999, Convel and 3 others like this. -
Cool. Gonna have to get me some of that. Thanks, bro.
-
Yup, there is a spray-on. Might be excellent for laptop mobos. Just mask off the sockets and slots and coat everything that doesn't have a heat sink surface.

You know what, I bet that would also work for sub-zero cooling protection since it is also a moisture barrier for electronics in harsh/damp environments.
@Johnksss have you seen this, or do you know if anyone has used it for DICE, LN2, etc. successfully? -

You think this will work on my other 1080 Ti? https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=400-HC-1389-B1
-
No, it will not. One reason I bought the 2080 Ti instead of another 1080 Ti in SLI is I could not find a 1080 Ti Hydro Copper block for sale anywhere, new or used. (That and the price of used 1080 Ti GPUs is way too high.) I found one Hydro Copper 1080 Ti block on eBay that was broken and it was still selling for like $75 at auction.
I found 1080 Ti FTW3 and K|INGP|N Hydro Copper blocks on eBay, but they will not work on a standard 1080 Ti. -
One thing I did not do, that you may want to. After EVGA reopens after the holidays, call them and speak to someone to find out if they have any Hydro Copper blocks for 1080 Ti SC/SC2/generic reference cards that are not listed on their web site.

Without a doubt I had one of the worst runs of luck I've ever seen. I went through 4 RTX 2080 Ti GPUs. Granted the first was immediately (well sort of) returned to Newegg for aesthetics (ASUS Dual OC).
The second and third GPUs were a Gigabyte Gaming OC and EVGA Ultra XC, both of which failed spectacularly. The Gigabyte lasted something like 2 weeks before a slow failure and gradual failure.
The EVGA artifacted out of box on the BIOS splash screen. However this went away after a single reboot and driver install so I chalked it up to a hiccup. However, it also crashed Black Ops 4 out of box, and eventually failed in the same fashion of the Gigabyte card.
That said, EVGA was by far the best company I have ever dealt with and they have gained a customer going forward. I plan to buy motherboards and GPUs from them. I called up at wee hours in the morning and got a competent rep on the phone who understood what I was saying and truly wanted to help me out. The next day I had a follow up email from him with more ideas of how to troubleshoot, and offered an advanced RMA for the card with overnight shipping to match what I purchased with. From total failure to new GPU was less than 48 hours. My replacement GPU was brand new, sealed, and has worked flawlessly since I got it about 1.5 months ago. I also registered for the extended warranty for 5 years of coverage. I doubt I'll have the GPU that long but the warranty follows the serial number so a second hand owner will have peace of mind.
I also took advantage of EVGA promo for a HUGE discount on PSUs with an RTX GPU purchase and grabbed a T2 1600w PSU for $150, it also came with a promotional warranty of 12 years. A 12 year warranty is just insane.
Not to sound too much of a fanboi, but EVGA also doesn't place warranty void if removed stickers on the back of their GPUs, and they don't care if you change the cooler to water block. They honor the warranty for the GPU as long as you return it in original condition/air cooler. EVGA is one of the last true enthusiast companies, with close involvement in posts on reddit and their own forums.

@Mr. Fox, I used conformal coating all the time at my last engineering job. It was great for sealing boards and antennas that were subject to extreme temps and weather. Sadly it's a pain to work with, gets everywhere, and doesn't come off without a ton of work. Also it will prevent contacts from working so be careful if you use the spray on something like a motherboard. We used it on all of our MIL-SPEC stuff, it was pretty amazing in regards to the things the board survived.

Tech support is open today till 3PM PST. I'll give them a call. Thanks

Yes, been using this stuff for quite a few years.
With using the spray you have to be careful else you get it to thick and all over the place. And EVGA will want it cleaned off before they service your board. A nice even thin layer is good because it last and in the end it's not that hard to take off, but you lay it on thick and man oh man.....You will have issues. (With taking it off. Not anything to do with protecting the board.)Last edited: Dec 24, 2018 -

LOL. I got so caught up in the colors I did not read the labels.
Any impression on which is more durable and/or which one is harder to remove later, or about the same? (Acrylic seems like it would be more difficult, but I'm just guessing.)Vasudev, Donald@Paladin44 and Johnksss like this. -
I use the Acrylic more as you can see my bottle is empty.
I also need to grab some more 8309 - Conformal Coating Stripper. This makes quick work of both, but faster on Acrylic. Acrylic also ia little better for sub zero as it's temps are -65C to 125C.
I had grabbed a lot of stuff to try on my boards as condensation is real at 5C and lower under subzero temps. And the Silicone would start cracking under the use of my Phase Change unit over time, while the Acrylic would last well in to the Dry Ice and hold up longer when using LN2 and insulation. Usually Liquid tape is going to better for Dry Ice, LN2 and Helium applications. If done correctly you can pretty much just peal it off in one piece or if you are just that good.
Side note:
What's better than all of them...... Vaseline, but it can get messy, but water does not stick to parts coated in Vaseline.Last edited: Dec 25, 2018Convel, Vasudev, Donald@Paladin44 and 4 others like this. -

@Mr. Fox I am thinking about pulling the trigger on a Sager NP9175 w/9900K, and a 1070. My questions to you, or anyone else is, will I be able to get Windows 7 installed on it? I do not know
enough about the latest intel stuff, and their drivers. Will the Intel INF driver allow me to install the chipset drivers, etc? I wont buy it unless I can get the hardware working with Windows 7. -
Who are you going to buy it from?
-
Xotic pc
-
Have you tried contacting them to see if they already had a "working model" yet?
-
No, should I? Not knowing anything about Sager/Clevo. They have it listed in their options. Is the 9900K not truly been tested yet? They have cpu options of 8700K, 9700K, and 9900K.
-
Get it from Brother @Donald@HIDevolution if at all possible. Also, skip the Sager branding. They are more restrictive on things. And, you're better off with an EVOC because HIDevolution goes above and beyond on everything. If you heart is set on XOTIC, then still skip the Sager part and insist on their @Prema version (which cannot qualify for Sager branding). A Clevo (which is a Sager, and a Sager is a Clevo, etc.) isn't worth buying if you cannot get the PremaMod firmware unless you like having restrictions imposed against your will.
I do not own any nice laptops any more and have no plans to buy one in the future. I have an old HP ZBook 15 with a 4800MQ and K1100M Quadro and have no plans to upgrade or spend money on laptops going forward. So, Brother @Johnksss is your best resource here for the latest Clevo Q&A. -

Marry Christmas and Happy New Year brother Fox. I hope your Christmas was filled with happiness and loved ones.
I have all of my rigs in my basement and during the winter, it's a cool 11 to 13c down here. If I leave my garage door open, it can go a bit lower. I'm keeping an eye on the forecast, waiting for one of those cold Northeast winter days/nights that sit at 20 degrees or lower. I'll make sure to make a video of those runs from outside. I would love to use one of my rooms upstairs, but my fiancee will throw me back downstairs if I open one of those windows and turn off the heat. You would think she would mind the noise but she doesn't...just the cold. -
Well, you definitely have to keep your lady happy if you want everything else to be right.
Thanks. It was a nice Christmas. I spent part of the day with my daughter, son-in-law and 4 grandkids, then later today spent time with one of my sons, his wife and her parents. My youngest boy and his wife were here last night. Mrs. Fox is in Washington State with another son, his wife and our newest grandson (born on 12/19). She was there for his birth and will be back home with me in a couple of weeks. Our oldest boy lives in Portland, Oregon, but he is moving down to Phoenix in February. So, the entire family except for the one son and his family in Washington will be close to us here in Phoenix.
If you have a window near your system in the basement, even a small window, you could put the entire radiator outside in the cold and just have flexible tubing running through the basement window to your computer with a quick disconnect fitting on each line. Then the fan noise would no longer be an issue and they would be pushing arctic air through the radiator.

NVIDIA's recent drop in stock value shows this. Follow the money.
There's only so far you can polish a turd.
Any gains that the RTX series makes, based on NVIDIA's prior history (with Gameworks, et al) only demonstrate the company's ineptitude at understanding the needs of their prosumers.
This, in effect, translates to consumers being converted into an early adopter mentality from the word go: Move over to RTX and burn money, or hold out on Pascal which will still be kicking ass years on from now.
On one end, you have the content creators that dug deep in their budgets not so long ago to acquire the Titan Vs.
And now, you have a lower-priced SKU (the Titan RTX) that offers them almost zero incentive to upgrade.
AMD, if you're listening: Go for the jugular. -
