You need to install the driver for dGPU. Even though the external monitor is connected to eGPU, windows will failed to pick it up if you do not install the driver for dGPU.
eGPU + Mac OS X Lion
The key to get eGPU to work without any mod is to get the GPU that officially supported by Mac OS X. Any Mac user should already know this fact. There is already a solution on getting unsupported ATI GPU to work on Mac OS X by binary-patching the driver (re-mapping the display outputs; HDMI, DP, VGA, etc). Solution also available for unsupported Nvidia GPU.

In the first post you can find several successful eGPU implementation on AMD notebooks. If your notebook doesn't have ExpressCard slot, you can use the available mPCIe port. You probably need to sacrifice wireless for eGPU. AMD notebooks only supported PCIe x1 link. If you doesn't play bandwidth hungry games like Battlefield 3, you good to go. Bad Company 2 running with micro lags in some scene/map when running on PCIe x1 link only. You also might need to find out whether the notebook chipset support PCIe rev 2.0 or not (hint: find it in AMD website or read the datasheet).
Is that CardBus/PCMCIA to ExpressCard adapter? If yes, it will not work because it doesn't have PCIe lane. -

According to product sheet, yes your notebook does have ExpressCard slot.
You can use the PE4L v1.5. If you're in the US, you can order it from HIT. Does your notebook have Intel GMA4500MHD? If yes, I recommend getting Nvidia Fermi graphic card. -
I need a little biut help with this yet...i tried to switch the dGPU off with the program now. after that i wanted to do the Chainloader mbr...then there pops a message that i have to do the PCI compactation first. so i did this, but when it should be finished it just freezes...:

After you do Video cards->dGPU[off], select Apply config.Chainload mbr, ignore the warning message about pci_alloc_valid=yes and just hit ENTER to proceed to chainload. -

Yes, you can get from HWtools. Product sheet stated your notebook have Intel X4500 (= GMA 4500MHD). For eGPU I recommend getting Nvidia Fermi graphic card because you can do x1.Opt setup with Intel GMA 4500MHD.

not i got 9900 3dmarks 06 instead of 6760....but the biggest problem is that i have big laggs at the beginning of 3dmark06, and if i open a game i have less frames than with my onboard graphics oO...
only the furmark score seems to be ok
in RE5vr dx9 i only get 53 fps -

Your score is too low. A i5-2410M +GTS [email protected] should get well and truly over 13k in 3dmark06 since a i3-2340M 2.3 [email protected] got 12064 ( hglr).

1) yes, but considering that you have a 6-series chipset, I suggest to use a PE4L v2.1 to grant the benefit of the PCI 2.0 speed.
2) Yes, as long as it's a single chip card (due the need to address only one card on the PCI bus). nVidia cards are suggested due the possibility the have a fragmented address allocation (starting from 8-series cards) and the Optimus compression (starting from Fermi cards, so 400-series) that boost even more the performance. -
Have you checked in the nVidia control panel that the specified application is bound to the dedicated GPU and not on the integrated one (or left on "Auto")?
Disabling the dGPU could leads to have the pplication run on the Intel HD 3000 automatically, instead of the eGPU. -

Are you running 3dmark06 on the internal LCD or the external one? Also, what does GPU-Z when you run it? Does it say "x16 2.0 @ x1" or "x16 2.0 @ x1 2.0"? The 3dmark06 of < 10k would seem about right for x1.1Opt running on the internal LCD or if you connected your LCD to the notebook rather than the eGPU's output HDMI/DVI port. -

The PE4L has an open ended "x1" slot, so your GPU will fit leaving uncovered about 3/4 of its connector. The PE4H has a sturdier connector x16 long, but your bottleneck will always be the bus available on the Notebook that cannot exceed x4 (but on your notebook x1 connection only will be available). Considering the benefit in having 2.0 speed, i won't care about the "physical" size of the slot at all.

i was too stupid for all this xD...i needed to deinstall the NVIDIA drivers of the dGPU first. then install the new drivers for the eGPU and now it works
bus interface is x1 v1.1 :/
the only problem is that i always have to restart the notebook if i want to switch on/off the egpu...otherwise i ll have a performance lost of about 50-70% oO...but i think that this problem cannot be solved.
so in my mind the eGPU is nice for users with intel chip and without nvidia dGPU onboard

8560W=bad choice for an eGPU as it has no active iGPU. The better choice from the HP stables is an iGPU-only 8560P. Or else look at NVidia dGPU-equipped Lenovo T520/W520 or Dell E6520/M4600. All of those have a primary Intel HD3000 iGPU so when using a Fermi/Keplar eGPU, the NVidia driver will engage pci-e compression giving 20-333% better peformance. The iGPU-only versions with a slight edge on better eGPU integration as the dGPU needs to be disabled with only the T520/W520 having a bios option to do that. The Dells require Setup 1.x pre-boot software to disable the dGPU.
It could probably be solved. There is an experimental Video cards.Hybrid gfx->dGPU on-demoted item in Setup 1.x you could try. The idea there is to give the eGPU a higher bus priority then the dGPU in the hope that the NVidia driver will choose it over the dGPU for Optimus functionality.
Unfortunately I never had a iGPU+dGPU system I could attach a eGPU to test that or devise a neater solution. Best I managed was to boot Setup 1.x on a shop display notebook, disable the dGPU then chainload windows and confirm the dGPU wasn't showing in Device Manager. -
Good idea! There are some smaller and thinner "poker set" suitcases, that would be good for the portable eGPU version with xbox PSU.

I have just ordered Lenovo T420s with proper configuration for 1.2Opt eGPU. Hell yeaaah!
Now I want to buy PE4L ver2.1b from Bplus ( www.HWtools.net ??????????) but I just can't find 2.1b on their website. Newest revision I can find is 2.1a - which as far as I have read from previous posts needs soldering to work in PCIe 2.0 mode.
Where can I order 2.1b? Please help me. Also I have question about cable lenght - anyone having any issues with longer cable than the standard 60 cm? I plan to buy it with 100cm.

i use case for CD's. small mod was made, to fit it togheter. now, it is almost perfect fit. maybe 2 or 3 cm less in lenght.

A 8560W is not the best candidate for a DIY eGPU due to the aforementioned lack of iGPU. You'd get x1 2.0 link width (no compression) with a PE4L 2.1 and a AMD/NVidia card. It's gaming performance would depend on the bandwidth requirements of the game.
Is there no way your work can give you a cheaper iGPU-only 8560P if it's a HP house or swap with someone? There you could consider a GTX560Ti+PE4L 2.1b+xbox360PSU+small enclosure that could be used near a power socket to meet your 3D work requirements.
Prior to the Keplar release, the GTX560Ti had the most powerful CUDA after the high-end Quadro desktop cards. It's considerably more powerful than a 8560W's FX1000M. You'd save you work $$ by not ordering the undesirable (for eGPU purposes) FX1000M. -

I tried all of your suggestions like DSDT override, using the setup 1.x and so on. But the eGPU will only work with 2 GB RAM installed.
The fujitsu hangs after 5sec if i tried to use the PCI Compaction.

Thanks for the quick response. My laptops dGPU only works with Windows generic driver. If I install any (oldest or latest) nVidia driver for my dGPU, then I get startup error during the boot. So, I thought, I will use eGPU to extract the good quality video and game to an external monitor. But it seems that the eGPU wont work if dGPU is broken or not have the latest driver for dGPU. I think it is a good lesson for non-technical person (like me) to know that eGPU only works with an active dGPU (please let me know if my assumption is worng).

Can you confirm there is Large Memory tree in Device Manager >> View >> Resources by connection? Did you connect eGPU right before windows loading (press F8 to halt windows loading)?
When I test the DSDT override for the first time, windows 7 at first also refused to re-allocate eGPU to 36-bit space but when I got it to work, it work flawlessly. For me the trick is connect everything including eGPU to notebook but eGPU is in OFF state, then power ON notebook, right before windows loading, press F8 until you see windows 7 boot menu, then power ON eGPU, then finally resume boot into windows.
Actually this is windows weakness or bug. When dGPU only use generic driver, windows will failed to detect the secondary/external monitor connected to eGPU. What error did you get if you installed driver for dGPU?
You can try these:-
- Disable dGPU in Device Manager
- If you have Setup 1.x, try disable dGPU & see whether your notebook will make eGPU as primary adapter or not
- Install the driver for dGPU but afterwards disable dGPU in Device Manager
Yes, you can use latest PE4L v2.1a/b with ExpressCard 1.0/PCIe 1.0. Yes, if your notebook have Intel GMA 4500MHD, then Nvidia Fermi graphic card is preferable for eGPU since you can do x1.Opt setup with the Intel GMA 4500MHD iGPU. -

Unfortunately Win7 will not use the eGPU driver without the primary video driver active. If one doesn't exist for Win7 then need to load the XP driver instead for both his dGPU as well as the eGPU. You will lose Aero+DX10 using the XP driver but it's certainly better than no eGPU functionality at all. -

Thank you both for showing me some avenues to try this weekend. The problem with my dGPU is whenever I install the nVidia driver (win7 or XP) my laptop gives me startup error during the boot and ask me repair and goes back to windows generic driver and then laptop boots up OK.

That sounds like the NVidia detect is causing the NVidia dGPU driver to fail, so you are using unaccelerated VGA drivers instead as a workaround.
So yeah, you'll need to go back to the XP driver for both the dGPU + eGPU to have a chance of working. Then it's possible to use Setup 1.x to disable the dGPU altogether sothe XP drivers will roundrobin to the next available device (eGPU) and function without the primary working. Your Setup 1.x startup.bat file would look like the following to make this work:
Do note that with the dGPU being disabled, you'd be booting blind into Win7 until the eGPU activates.Code:call speedup lbacache call vidwait 60 [PCI ID of your eGPU] call dGPU off :: Run the results of last pci compation (if any done) if exist pci.bat call pci.bat call grub4dos mbr
Other issue is introduction of the NVidia driver for the dGPU to get this to work would would mean that when not using the eGPU you'd either need to disable that NVidia dGPU driver in Device manager or hit F8 on bootup and choose "VGA mode" to avoid your BSOD on startup. I believe using the standard VGA drive wouldn't allow this to work. -

Mine took 2 days to arrive UK, but was held by DHL for another day as they won't deliver until you paid the VAT import (£11).
A Corsair 500W PSU would be sufficient for your GTX560TI, I believe, and leave a bit extra for overclocking if you want. I used a 750W PSU for my GTX680, but feel quite redundant
