    yes.
    Notebookchecks 3dmark06 score was 8064 with ZM-86.
    Patators test was 7796.
    So a difference of about 200 3dmarks.

i think its a waste of money to purchase the laptop with ZM-86.

Well, the ZM-86 is not useless, look at benchmarks in cinebench in openGL and multiprocessing, it dominates the ZM-80 of course.

ZM-82 vs ZM-86 in the comparison, so ZM-80 will be a little less. Also patator has the newer drivers, which probably is better than the ones notebookcheck was using. Not a huge difference, since its only 200mhz to a ZM-82 but a noticeable one.

Performance is very good for a laptop. The graphics card performes very well. The laptop handles games pretty good. I played Fallout 3 with 1920 *1080 resolution, and medium details (about). And the game ran pretty smooth, with only minor chopping now and then. And it handles 1080p video remarkably well. So if you're looking into playing HD-videos, this laptop is good for that (allthough it has no Blueray-player, so you'll have to go for digitally distributes videos).

It's pretty portable beeing a 13,3" laptop. It's weight is pretty mediocre for a 13,3" laptop, but it is not too heavy either. The only problem I have with this laptop is the build quality. The keypad kind of gives after for pressure (bends downwards). And the screen lid (the backside of the screen) is kind of soft. It should be more solid, but I guess it is not a problen unless you're planning on placing som heavy stuff on top of the laptop when it is closed. ;)

I'm glad this is working and the raving madness of those we won't name weren't right after all. It would have been a large failure imo for them to design this laptop without this feature.

I look forward to seeing what lasting impressions those who have owned this laptop for some time have gathered.

Well, I think its because AMD doesnt directly support moblity graphics drivers since the X series. The IGP will take the desktop IGP drivers, but it doesnt have stuff for mobility specific stuff I guess.

Ok I need your help, just bought the SA 3650 and trying to install Windows XP:

First off I got "STOP 0x7b" error and that I knew was cause off the lack of SATA drivers. I then downloaded nLite and tried to integrate these (korturl.se/fisz) drivers into a Win XP CD but NO LUCK.

I can see that it loads the drivers but then I get the same error.

This is regardless if I set "Sata Class ID" to either "IDE-AHCI Class" or "IDE Legacy Class".

    Any help would be great.

    ---

    Clarification:

I am now trying to use "textfile" instead of "PNP" but I need "txtsetup.oem" which I cant find....hmm

Try slipstreaming SP2 or SP3 into the XP CD and if you are slipstreaming the Sata drivers as well, make sure you are not using Sata compatibility mode in the Bios or anything. If you don't slipstream the Sata drivers then compatibility mode will have to be enabled in Bios assuming that the Amilo has this option.

    > Tried with/without SATA mode and Legacy IDE mode to no luck.

Perform a BIOS update on your Sa3650 to V1.04. Download the ISO from Fujitsu Siemens website, burn the CD and perform the update. After that set SATA mode to legacy mode as told. Then you should be able to install XP.

I've done that but unfortunately I couldn't get XGP to work as it wants to install two unknown devices. A "VGA Device" and a "PCI Device". I think that something like the ATI 3gio driver for XP is needed in order to get XGP working under XP. But I haven't tried that as it was very late yesterday. And then I've reverted to pre-installed VISTA as it is supported by FSC for now.

Perhaps you will be more lucky...

I'm thinking about buying this instead of an expensive gaming notebook, but I have a question:
Is the ZM-80 processor really such a bottleneck? I mean, does it bottleneck CPU intensive games like E:TW or Crysis?

Also, can someone PLEASE post pictures of gaming on the display.

The AMD cpus actually tend to do better than Intel CPUs in games, because of the integrated RAM controller give it much faster access to RAM than Intel. In other programs it may lag Intel performance, because that software isnt capable or designed to use RAM as fast. You can see that AMD cpus are competitive in wPrime which is not a special AMD test, but a better way of making calculations that the superPi method, but software programmers dont code that way, and why when Intel has 80% of the market and cant take advantage of it.

However, with Intels latest cpus they do rock in wPrime, so maybe software coders will wise up.

So could you tell me which CPU is better in games?

The Zm-80 or, a P8600, or a P9500 (incase the AMD one actually beats the P8600...)?

Only reason I'm hesitating is because of the CPU, and the fact that only ZM-80's are available in my nation.

Also, do you think they will release another external graphics solutions, possibly with stronger GPUs?

    Thanks for the answer anyway!

Thank you, I've updated the BIOS via CD (tried doing it in Windows but got lots of errors) and can now confirm that I can install XP (didnt get BSOD anyway).

I am going to try this now but did you try to install the latest drivers from FSC homepage and it still didn't identify the Graphic Booster?

Another thing, I had to revert to AHCI mode when booting into Vista after I checked if I would get BSOD or not (XP installation) because with "Legacy IDE" mode I couldn't boot into Vista, I got BSOD and it just went into a restart loop.

    Edit:

    Clarification -

If you unplug the booster, install XP and then install the drivers, reboot after driver installation and THEN put in the booster, shouldnt it detect it correctly with the drivers installed?

If the booster is plugged in before the drivers are installed it might try to install some generic drivers and mess everything up?

The P9500 is the best of course, as Intel quickly makes up for slow RAM with higher clock frequencies. The P8600 will also easily best the ZM80. I would compare the ZM-80 to more like the T8100 or T5800, P7350, T7400 for gaming. But getting a better CPU is usually of little benefit to FPS in games and any of those wil do fine.

I think there will be several updated XGP boxes as soon as AMD loses the exclusivity rights to the port and cable in a few months. Then Intel notebooks may make use of it and catch on much better. You wont have to get a solution from fujitsu, anyone that makes an XGP box will work.

I dont know, but I'd imagaine by then the 4870 would be more available. And if it uses the same MXM form factor Fujitsu should have a drop in replacement upgrade. Or could be a simple user upgrade.

    > I am going to try this now but did you try to install the latest drivers from
    > FSC homepage and it still didn't identify the Graphic Booster?

No, I haven't, and I think that they wouldn't work with XP as they are Vista drivers.

    > If you unplug the booster, install XP and then install the drivers, reboot
    > after driver installation and THEN put in the booster, shouldnt it detect it
    > correctly with the drivers installed?

I plugged in the Booster while I was running XP. Right after that it tould me that it has found 2 new devices: an "unknown PCI device" and an "unknown VGA device". I believe that the XGP-port of the Booster is something very special and needs a non-standard driver. As currently using Vista, the only "strange-to-me" device in the device manager is the "ATI PCI Express (3GIO) Filter Driver".

    [IMHO-mode]
As the XGP-port is a special form of PCI Express, this might be the thing. And your report-xml-file shows all ATI devices except the filter driver.

    You can try this: http://www.download.com/ATI-PCI-Express-3GIO-Filter-Driver/3000-2110_4-171404.html
or this (only for Vista?): http://support.packardbell.com/de/item/index.php?i=7611550000&pi=platform_amadeus_istart

As long as you haven't got a working bus interface to the XGP-port resp. Booster, the OS won't be able to recognize the Booster.
    [/IMHO-mode]

Catalyst 9.2 works with both internal and external graphics cards. Of course, the official ATI Catalyst 9.2 doesn't support piping the Booster back to the laptop's screen...

If anybody in Sweden (pref. Stockholm area) wants to buy a SA3650 (incl. booster)+22" FSC screen+speakers and every computer item I ever own the PM me.

    Basically the SA3650 + Screen + Booster + Keyboard/Mouse + Speakers + 500GB external 2.5" USB-driven HDD
1 laptop (old one) in a so-what working condition (gets a bit sluggish after a while or under big load)
1 stationary computer with screen P4 1.7GHz,3GB SDRAM, 40GB HDD (this one got a defective harddrive)

This and ALL (I assure you this is A LOT) of my computer parts, router, switch, cables, the WORKS people for 15 000 SEK. Might go down to 14 000 SEK for a quick deal. This is worth around 19 000 SEK.

The SA3650 was bought 02-03-2009 together with screen, speakrs, mouse, keyboard, hdd etc.

I thought this was relevant since this thread is about SA3650.
If the admins want to delete this post and put it under a "Buy & Sell" subpart of the forum then do so, but I still claim that this post has relevance in this thread.

The reason is that I'm sick of Vista and computers in general.
I am going (I am not kidding you) to revert back to a analog typewriter or somewhat like that.

    Have a good day.

Send me a PM for more info.

NO, I do not want to trade for used XBOX360's, your homemade "killer" rig of a comp etc. Cold hard cash only.
NO, I do not sell any items separatly, this is ALL THE COMPUTER ITEMS I OWN DOWN TO THE LAST CORD PPL.

I was interested in buying one of these Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Sa 3650 in the UK but they don't seem to be interested in selling it so now I will not bother. Don't they want to make more sales or something?

I am now going to buy a different laptop. I wish them luck with such a great product that is so difficult to acquire.

I think this global economic downturn has put a burden on every companies ability to launch and sell products, production, etc... And Fujitsu Siemens is having a divorce issue, so Europe (the German part of the union) probably not too enthusiastic about Fujitsu stuff.

Hi guys. I'm thinking about buying this laptop and one of the ways I want to use it is for working with streaming audio. Can anyone of the owners run the DPC Latency Checker ( http://www.thesycon.de/dpclat/dpclat.exe) and post here the results? Thanks in advance.
