Can Amilo sa3650 owners download radeon graphic drivers directly from ATI site? ...Or do they have to use gimmics to get 'em work?
I am sick of OEM graphic drivers, and want to know this before getting my hands on with this graphic booster+sa3650 :)

I got my hands on with new Amilo 3650+ graphics booster.
    Bought from Finland, Netanttila.

Everything looks pretty good. Had some minor difficulties to find graphic driver that works with XGP and utilise laptops own display. But finally found it.

    With details:

Does anyone know if this is the latest driver?

Everything works pretty well, only sounds I have problems with optical out (spdif) connection. Cant get it to work with yamaha amplifier at all. Have the latest Realtek HD audio driver installed (6.0.1.5683) from Fujitsu website.

At least HDMI out and speakers seems to be working perfectly. Does anyone know how to make it work? .. And yes have changed it to default but no luck with that one.

Graphics booster gives solid 7200-7300 with 3DMark 2006. Does anyone know how could I overclock that booster unit a little ;) -Have seen some youtube test videos with graphic booster mobility radeon HD 3870 and 3DMark scores of 8100??? -How is that possible?

My unit comes with AMD ultra dual core Turion X2 mobile ZM-80 processor. Cant be much diffrence in 3dmark scores with better ZM-81-84??

The Graphic booster comes with the PC. And yes, it uses a special connector.

I dunno about that much, but yours is the first ZM-80 I've seen benchmarked..

The benefit to yours is the lower power consumption and heat.

    and it gets hot! ;)

Just got (yesterday) my Sa 3650 (ZM-80) + Graphic Booster (in norway), still havent had time to test the GraphicBooster, but I will (of course)

I Installed Windows 7 (RC and 64bit) , and it went great, but the wireless wouldnt work (and the Fn+F1 didnt activated it either), so... now Im trying aswell to install MAC OSx 10.5.6 (ideneb 1.4) and it gives me "instalation succesful" but it doesnt start (get hangen on apple logo at start), and without the dvd in, gives me a error boot thing. :(

Still trying to get it working. Would be nice to have Win7+Leo10.5.6 (both 64bits) on the machine ;)

Let me know how you got everything working with Win 7! :D

    Bye,

Actually the connector in Amilo sa3650 IS external PCIe connector. Couldnt find much of info about it, is it possible in the future to change some other manufacturers external graphics unit to this laptop remains to be seen...
(first this was introduced as only capable of boosting external monitors and hdmi stuff but then there came the possibility to boost laptops own display, maybe someday we can install another manufacturers high speed external boosters ;)

But right now Amilo sa 3650 is only "gaming" laptop in the market that utilizes this external PCI express connector... correct me if Im wrong...

well.. TWB, the sa3650 + graphicbooster isnt really a "gaming" laptop, by yes, you can do some gaming on it (that you cant on all, of course)

the cable connector is some kind of "special" is a PCI 2 and no other company has used it yet. Maybe.. (I hope) there will be soon, more and more used (if Fujitsu gets it sold, cause they got the patent (I believe)). But would be beneficial I think.. If that connector where just used by others, and Ati the only one to produce external boxes and cables. (win-win situation).

And us, people.. could benefit from all that.

Now I got the Graphic booster with the HD3870, but who nows.. maybe some day, they start making boxes with even better cards! ;)

UPDATE on Hackintosh: Leopard is installed, and it doesnt hang like before... but now, I do a "dumb" problem, it tells me that I have no keyboard connected!.. so If I had an usb one, I could connect it and get to the system... then from there, is easier to just activate internal laptop keyboard

I'll see if I get one.

If any of you with sa3650 got win7 with working wireless (internet) tell me please how. ;)

Ok, but I dont think its ilegal!.. cause there are several "stores" selling their PC's with Mac OSx pre-installed (and they are hackintoshes, cause they arent Mac machines from Apple).. <-- apple sued them (I believe) but they lost! Cause the software cant be monopolized.. or something like that. (dont know really, but stores won, and they still sell the hackintoshes)

Tomorrow arrives my Sa3650 with GB...I read all 32 thread pages...

I suppose to make a ssystem with:

    - vista (I think 32 ultimate)
    - xp (first answer: except GB, is possible to install XP? work correcly all devices?)
    - suse (yes, i use it) or ubuntu

I wish to use (on Vista) GB with Internal Display...Are the Cata 8.57 beta the only way to use it? I think that the switch betwen the displays is an option of CCC: someone try to install only cat 9.3 or 9.4 (without CCC) on 8.57beta to see if crossdiplay works?

    Thank you...

    Excuse for my little english

@Beni79: Only for curiosity: Leopard works with all devices( 3200hd, wifi, sound, ecc), or is still only "start"?

    Hi!

I recieved my sa 3650 two days ago and, because I can't stand Vista and because I need to use the cross-display drivers, tried to install the beta cross-display drivers on Windows 7 (32- and 64-bit) and on Windows XP without any luck.

In Windows 7 I got a message in the Device Manager that the HD 3870 could not be powered up or started, or something like that (with the beta drivers, the supplied drivers and the newest ati drivers v. 9.4).

I am now running Vista with the cross-display beta drivers and everything is running smoothly. I haven't tried too many games, but I ran Fallout 3 with all settings maxed in the native LCD resolution (1280x800), 4xAA and 8xAF with some minor stuttering in heavy combat. I suppose I should've lowered some settings to make it smoother, but I haven't found the time to do so.

So far I'm extremely happy with value/performance. I bought this on sale for 6000 norwegian kroner which is approx. 920$ or 675€.

What a long and messy post... But anyways, I would be very interested in hearing if somebody has managed to get the cross-display drivers in Windows 7 RC1.

    Cheers!

    Ok...I received the note...

For now, all is ok: i have installed Xp (with sata driver slipstremed on XPcd), Vista 32 Home Premium and Ubuntu64: ALWAYS works correct (every device in every S.O)

In a few day i suppose to make some test with and without GB...

    Good Note

Does anyone know how to get access to overclocking and fan speed settings of the graphic booster? Atitool, rivatuner nor atitraytool seems not to be working with this unit. Somehow there is videos in youtube where someone has overclocked his graphicbooster quite a lot :)

Hey, I just wanted to say that I just installed Windows 7 (64-bit) and found that this error can be resolved by downloading an optional update from Windows Update.

    I suppose it's this one:
ATI Technologies Inc. - Display - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870.

I also installed the cross-display beta drivers and it all works like a charm!

I'm so happy that I don't have to use Vista anymore!

Just a short clip to demonstrate:

    Robotfighter: Sounds great!
I assume you're using the Win7 rc1. Have you benchmarked the system with 3dmarks06 in win7 and are there any differences in results compared with vista?

I just bought the sa3650 thinking of throwing in win7 straight away.

    Hey tanion!

I haven't run any benchmarks on the system yet. The in-game performance is similar to the one I had in Vista, can't say that I've noticed any big differences. However, the performance of normal tasks in the OS itself runs faster and smoother. That's reason enough for me to switch. :)

My system is now up and running. I get a score of 7500 in 3dmark06 (1280x1024) on my external display.

I have an irritating problem though. When starting the computer with an external display connected to HDMI port the screen looks kind of scrambled. Hard to explain. The resolution is correct (1680x1050) and the proportions are correct but the deskop looks like when you take an image (1680x1050), downscale it to 50% and the upscale it to original size again. No text is readable and everything looks aweful. To correct this temporary I change the resolution or color depth to something else and then back again. :(
    Any ideas?

I also got a bit irritated on that the wireless cant be enabled as default when starting the computer. A workaround can be found here (post 12).
But i still want to find a way to use the default buttons (FN+F1) to enable/disable directly.

    You have to change this:
    WshShell.sendkeys("{TAB}{TAB}{LEFT}~")
    To this (due to bluetooth):
    WshShell.sendkeys("{TAB}{TAB}{TAB}{LEFT}~")

I'll try to run my computer with an external display tomorrow, and see how it goes.

The wireless thing is annoying and I'm also using the same workaround. I would really appreciate if anybody knew how to fix this- or even replace the whole OSD - the icons are really ugly and annoying- especially the completely unnecessary caps-lock icon.

I totally agree, very ugly OSD.

A fix for the Wireless could be done by implementing a program that enables/disables wireless and replace the original program. C:\Program Files\Launch Manager\WisWBSet.exe
It is possible, just rename <your_program>.exe to WisWBSet.exe. It opens if you use FN+F1. The tricky part is to implement the program.

BTW it would be appreciated if you try to connect an external display.

Another thing that came up is that Task Manager only recognizes 2269 MB physical memory. Isn't that a bit strange? Well i know that 32-bit OS cant handle the full 4 gb memory but still < 3 gb should be recognized.

Now I have an answer for my own question. A BIOS update resolves the issue with wireless being turned off during startup. This was resolved in BIOS version 1.04.

Hey, sorry for the late reply.

I tested the GraphicsBooster with a BenQ W5000 projector, running in 1920 x 1080, and some other lower resolutions without any problems with image quality.
    I'm using W7 64-bit and the cross-display drivers.

Btw. I also had the same issue in Vista (32-bits), with the OS reporting only 2,2 gb ram.

    No problem.
I managed to resolve the resolution issue. Cant really understand how/why but there is no problem after i connected the display to DVI instead of HDMI port.
The other issue regarding RAM seems to be because of the integrated HD3200 which allocates a lot of ram.

Hi all, after reading the whole thread I managed to run cross display driver in my amilo sa 3650 but the 3dmark score is only around 6800, and still looking for ways to improve it. Thank you for those who have provided this information.

I tried to install Windows 7. the OS itself worked perfectly, but the wireless hotkey to turn it on didn't work so I could not really proceed with updates etc. For those who have managed to install it perfectly, can you help to confirm if all software included with this notebook can be installed well? Will BIOS update solve the wireless hotkey issue? Thanks.

Vista 32 see 4gb but use 3,1gb...Ati Hypermemory use about 1gb ram...So in Vista 32 you have 2,2gb...

For this, i have installed Vista Home Premium 64 and everything works much fine than the 32bit os...With some optimization, Vista work great...

So, at the end, i have 3 os: Xp 32 prof, Vista Home Premium 64 e Ubuntu 64...

N.B:Only in Vista i can use GB (With Cata 9.1beta end crossdiplay). I try Crysis: about 30fps, 1024x768 all high without aa...Great!

P.S: Sorry for my little english

Hi _aaabbb, sorry for the delay. In fact I just got it working today, cause I didnt had a USB keyboard, and the install wouldnt let me get into. At the moment, I cant say its functional.. no sound, no wifi, no graphicbooster! :(

But.. there is a lot to try yet... so I'll let you know asap.

    Heisann!

I got the same deal at komplett.no (same as you I may believe). 5995! ;)

Running Win7 RC 64-bit (build 7100) + XGP (8.57 driver) and dual boot with Leopard (still in WIP mode though)

I had first the Catalyst 9.5 with the newest driver, and it didnt allowed me to use the cross-display. But now after hours of research, I did found and installed the 8.57 driver. <-- it messed a bit my color profiles, and in fact, I disabled the cross-display, cause I use the laptop with a 24", and if cross-display is activated, only the laptop screen would work. (have to try connecting the 24" to the laptop dvi, that would be another day)

btw robotfighter, where in norway do you live?... Im close to Trondheim.

I updated BIOS to 1.05. I got the .iso file from Fujitsu drivers page.

    It solved:
-Add new WLAN radio item in BIOS setup menu. It can control the WLAN RF disabled each boot or just keep last setting. No more manual activation after each reboot.

    - Battery capacity can't be shown immediately when fully charged.

Does anyone know how hard it is to change processer in this laptop?

I have the ZM-80 and would like to upgrade to ZM-86. For a little more CPU power.

Is there a service manual or something that you guys have come across?

I have been checking ebay and such for getting a hand on a ZM-86 but it's not easy to find. Have you come across an good sellers?

Finally I managed to install Vista 64 bit and Windows 7 RC 64 bit in my Amilo Sa 3650 with ZM-82 and 4GB RAM. The cross display work great with Vista and I have about 7250 score in 3DMark06. In term of OS Windows 7 does work faster than Vista 64 bit.

However I still have problem with installing the 8.57 cross display driver in WIndows 7 as it seems that the install seems to be stalled in the middle all the time. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

By installing BIOS 1.05 it does help to solve the WLAN issue so it will always be activated after restarting the Windows.

Hi Robot fighter, do you have a problem to install the webcam driver? It seems to me that no driver available yet for WIndows 7.

And do you know how to instal cross-display driver in W7 as everytime I tried to install it was always stuck in the middle. THanks.

Would anyone please post a exact description of how he/she managed to get the graphicbooster working under win7?
I've tried anything. I installed various Catalyst versions but none worked.
Strange to say I just can't find an optional windows update which has anything to do with the mobile 3870. Still getting code 10 all the time. Very frustrating :-/

You have to validate/genuine Windows 7 RC against Microsoft. Then refresh Windows update. Then there should be a 3870 driver(XGP driver included).

After install the booster will start to work against external monitors. If you want to accelerate the internal screen.
You have too use this driver: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=M21LDFZS
(this is the only working driver för internal screen boosting)

Install it after you have done the one from Windows update.

@Flippin: Thanks finally got it to work :) Cleaning my registry from all the junk the various Catalyst installs had caused lead to success.

Hey guys, good to see this technology is working fine :D The results are looking great.

I also wonder about - - -'s question, anyone tried to change the card in the booster? or is the booster actually sealed shut or can it be changed out?

This would be great with my 40 inch tv, its native res is 13**x7** i didnt look before i buy so i got a bad res, but for games its amazing, and the amilo should handle that res spectaculaly.

I did this to make the cross-display driver work in windows 7:

pdharsono: I've got no problems with the webcam. Have you tried installing the Fujitsu drivers?

In games, when using antialiasing or anisotropic filtering I'm getting a black screen every other minute or so, that lasts for anything between 5-30 seconds. Anybody else experiencing the same thing? I can't play anything with AA or AF enabled.

    Hello all,

I just got one of this notebook. I use win7 32bit with no problem (after I updated bios to 1.05). I just bought 2G extra memory so I have 4 now. I have tried to install x64 win7 to use all the memory, but I have no luck :( 3870 driver installed but has an error: can't turn it on. I have use the same driver in 32bit (ofcourse in 32bit version) and it's working fine, but in 64bit it doesn't.....

Is there any solution for this problem?

Yepp that is the driver I used :( The fact is that there is no problem with the driver, or the error message doen't said anyithing about is. It's only said that device can't turn it on. There is no missing driver for any device or any error in device manager....

I think it is a very good product and I was was very happy to have it, but the support from fujitsu side is horrible... And the fact that there is no XP support.. No comment
