Do I need to completely wipe off my driver to install this? Or just download the file and let it basically update from 12.8 to 12.11 Beta?

before stock clocks (with hp drivers) :

after 12.11b stock clocks: AMD Radeon HD 7750M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3720QM Processor,Hewlett-Packard 1851 score: P2383 3DMarks -
Many use driver sweeper but here's what I do...
-Uninstall all AMD stuff in add/remove programs (usually 2, just CCC and CAP). I reboot for each uninstall.
-After uninstalling and rebooting for both, go back to add/remove programs and you'll see CCC still there. Uninstall it again. It won't ask you to reboot this time, but reboot anyway.
-Go to your explorer and check the ATI folder in program files. Make sure there's only one folder there (I think it's PX?). If you see the profiles folder (CAP), delete it.
-Then install the new drivers (12.11), reboot, install CAP (12.10 CAP 1), reboot, done.
For those having problems with Afterburner, can you describe what you have? Which version, do you OC, what triggers the BSOD, etc.? I have zero problems with it. I've played games with it on and the fps OSD. No issues. I haven't OC'd and I have version 2.2.4. -
Thank you so much Seanzky! I will be doing that now! Rep!
Well, I only have AMD Catalyst Install Manager, and why I try to uninstall it, it tells me three options.
Uninstall Manager
Repair Catalyst Install Manager
Express Uninstall All AMD Software.
so third choice it is? -
I always do custom and I select all to uninstall. After choosing "Change", look for uninstall and then when the uninstall wizard comes up, custom -> select all.
UPDATE: Sorry. Not the third. Pick the first. They both might lead to the same steps, but I've never chosen the third before. Ever since stock, to 12.6, 12.7, 12.8, 12.9 and now 12.11, I've always done these steps by choosing the first one. -
Thank you very much! I'll let you know about my progress!
Thanks for a very detailed explanation and help.
UPDATE:
Thank you so much man! I'm all good to go now!
12.11 baby!
Wow! My standard average on BF 3 is on 50 FPS!
Goodbye 40 FPS! Yey!

It started BSODing immediately after I hit "apply" to set core and memory clocks, but after I tried reinstalling it to fix the issue and getting a few BSODs in the process, my computer started crashing randomly on start-up. It has been fine since I gave up and uninstalled afterburner. I think I'm going to wait until the final 12.11 releases and do a fresh install of windows/afterburner/etc. and hope I don't have any issues then. I have an ssd that I'll install the os on, so I have to do it anyway. -

No BSODs, No Crashes at all.
I overclocked my 7970M using MSiAfterburner. Here's the result.

So Happy!
I'm glad I upgraded! A lot of significant increases! -
I had similar issues with afterburner when I first installed my 7970m. I was getting horrible results with benchmarks and gaming, not too mention numberous crashes. I tried everything I could come across in the forums, with multiple uninstalls/reinstalls. I finally just reformatted which didn't take much time. Anyway, it fixed those issues I was experiencing.
The only issue I continued to experience was afterburner causing a screen freeze. Johnnyman's tip for unlocking overdrive in CCC has worked wonders. See this thread where he gave me the advice.
Its been working flawlessly for me since. -
failwheeldrive Notebook Deity
Thanks man, I actually started getting the BSODs after I tried activating overdrive on someone's suggestion in this thread. At 1st afterburner would only show "zero" in place of the core and memory clocks, but after messing around and trying to get overdrive working, afterburner started showing the clocks. Only problem was I got a blue screen any time I tried overclocking lol. I'll bookmark that thread and try it once I do a fresh install of Windows. Much appreciated! I would rep if I could

Great stuff, people are enjoying themselves
-
failwheeldrive Notebook Deity
Yup, I'm totally fine with afterburner not working if it means my benchmarks are 15-20% better and I don't have to suffer through under-utilization any more
I'm really happy I had faith that amd would fix the problems and chose this card over the 675mx!
Stock 3DMark11 is up almost 1k points

the new driver is spectacular as everyone here already showed. I didnt catch any crash playing Max Payne 2 and The Old Republic. Just thought someone may want to know

you can revert back from the effects of -xcl (e Xtend Clock Limits) switch by running MSI Afterburner with -rcl ( Reset Clock Limits). maybe that'll get rid of your BSODs. -
No, it's 950/1375. I can't go higher because of the bug we spoke in pm ( and i still didn't solve this, i don't understand everything ).
At stock, i go 5800 with 12.9 and 6300 with 12.11.
But yes beta1 ( the one guru3d deleted ) as several little bugs. -
failwheeldrive Notebook Deity
Thank you darxide, you've been really helpful the last couple days! lol
I'll try that, but I'm not sure if it will work, because I never got -xcl to enable overdrive. I tried it several times and it never prompted me to restart the computer after entering the command. It's definitely a good idea though, thanks
-
Ideally, for a clean install of new drivers:
- Uninstall old drivers from Control Panel
- Restart into Safe Mode
- wipe drivers using Driver Sweeper
- Install new drivers
- Restart normally
EDIT: Guys, on MSI Afterburner with 12.11Beta3, all the values are showing up to be either 0 (zero) or blank (null), and the sliders don't work AKA I can't OC. Any advise, anyone? -
nice scores Pakii94...
i see you have good boost performance!!!
very nice
-
I told you that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:hi2:
didnt i

Has anyone installed this on a W8 Enterprise? When I made a clean W8E install all the versions avaible like 12.6, 12.7 12.8 etc would install everything but the display driver. I'm running w7 at the moment but i'm tempted to try W8E again to see if this driver works.
-
I'm running this driver currently on Windows 8 Enterprise x64. To install non-WHQL drivers on Windows 8, do the following:
- cmd -> Run as Administrator
- bcdedit /set {current} testsigning yes
- Reboot
- Install driver
- cmd -> Run as Administrator
- bcdedit /set {current} testsigning no
- Reboot
-
After I follow all the steps to remove/install drivers I'm able to reboot once and I get Bsods on the 2nd reboot after logging in.

same thing happened to me; eventually it started showing the clock values but I got a BSOD every time I tried hitting "apply" on the new clock values. I finally gave up after the BSODS got random and uninstalled afterburner. Been problem free since then. -
I can neither see any values nor change them. No BSODs though.
-
Ah I see, that might have been why it didn't work before. Should I just follow your steps straight off or should f ex {current} be replaced by something like my computer account?
-
No need to change anything. Instructions are pretty straightforward.
-
failwheeldrive Notebook Deity
I started seeing the clocks when I added -xcl to the afterburner shortcut to try and activate overdrive in the ccc. It doesn't work on EM laptops though. It did get afterburner to show clocks, but at the expense of giving me a BSOD if I messed with them. I don't recommend trying it lol. -
I think I'll avoid it altogether for now then, until even more mature drivers come out. With the performance gains thus far, I doubt I'd see the need to OC anytime soon.
-
Got it to work. Fraps was causing bsods. Usage still gets down to 20% in bl2 at points.
...tapatalk... -
I have a problem with 2d clocks, can't go under 400/1200. I have told that i am not the only one, so i will wait for final version while using 12.8. But 12.11 are fast!!!!
-
failwheeldrive Notebook Deity
exactly, I'm going to wait as well. Once the official driver releases I will do a fresh install of windows and driver/programs onto my ssd. Right now my stock performance is WAY beyond what I could have achieved overclocked on stock drivers

Any benefits for those of us without the latest and greatest GPUs? The 12.9 betas have been rock solid for me, but if there are notable performance gains on GPUs that don't have a 9 as the second digit, I'd be willing to give them a shot. For those who don't know, Macs don't have GPU switching in Windows, it's all Radeon all the time.
-
failwheeldrive Notebook Deity
It seems the beta doesn't like to cooperate wit lots of programs. Afterburner was giving me BSODS, but fraps is ok. I'm seeing a little bit of underutilization here and there, but it's always when fps are 60+. It's weird, almost like the gpu doesn't give its full potential because it doesn't have to. Once I play anything demanding utilization stays at 99.9% -
failwheeldrive Notebook Deity
ummmm yeah, our benchmarks are up 15-20%, it fixed enduro utilization, etc. the 7970 is actually beating the 680m in stock benchmark scores now. Not bad for a card that costs a few hundred less. Btw my dad has the same year/model laptop as you, and I've always wondered how it handles games. What kind of performance do you get with the 6770? -

I'm still using 2.2.1 and haven't had a hiccup, try that version after you've made sure all profiles and other AB files are gone. -
transphasic Notebook Consultant
With the new release yesterday, the results are confusing, to say the least. When testing was done on the new 12.11 driver release, and shown on Anandtech, it contradicts the results from other tests, and it shows that the 12.9 release was better in more comparison tests than the 12.11 release. Jarred from Anandtech showed in his tests that the newest 12.11 driver release was in some cases WORSE than the 12.9 especially at higher resolutions.
This is confusing and contradictory, because there seems to be a worse result on some, and not nearly as good result than what we expected on others.
I ran 3Dmark Vantage testing, and came away with a nearly 3,000 point increase, which is surprising and nice, but other testing done by other people in other forums shows hardly or no overall benefit to the new 12.11 release compared to previous driver releases in the most popular games.
Am I reading this wrong, or is there something more to this?
What do you guys say on this? -
After i have installed this driver, the memory clocks on my 7970M stays on 1200Mhz when idle in Windows - it does not downclock.
Any ideas? -
UPDATED OP for NEWER Beta 4 driver release!!
-
Exactly the same. With beta 4 too.
-
Posted this in another forum, guess there are updates for all GCN cards
I'm running a FirePro M6000 (aka 7870M, an underclocked HD7770)
3DMark 11 with 12.8 driver, overclocked to 1000/1250: P3316 (2987 graphics score)
3DMark 11 with 12.11b3 driver, stock (800/1000): P3351 (3008 graphics score)
I can't overclock for now though...
gonna test 12.11b4 later. -
I think you are misunderstanding this a bit.
A lot of reviewers tested the 12.11 driver against very early drivers, almost when the 7970/7870/whatever was released which of course show a lot more improvement than the reviews that tested against later drivers.
3DMark score might have increased but that doesn`t reflect directly on FPS increase. For some games it might, for others not so much.
The driver Anandtech used in the Sager review was with the driver that had the upcoming hotfix. If you looked at the graph (click here), the 12.11 gives 7970M owners 10% better FPS in AVERAGE over the previous driver which you guys had, the 12.9 beta. Right on the nail on what AMD promised and what Anandtech found out yesterday.
There is 2% difference between the driver Anandtech tested in the Sager review, than the 12.11 driver you guys are using now. Absolutely nothing to complain about.
So allin all its a extremely good driver and AMD gave people what they promised: Fewer but much better drivers. Huge Kudos to AMD for this  -
Does anyone know why MY MSI Afterburner 2.2.4 does not work? I put -xcl at the end of the target and it does not open anymore.
-
darxide_sorcerer Notebook Deity
^ it's not supposed to open when you run it with -xcl. you have to run it only once and then reboot (it should ask for a reboot). after the reboot, remove the added -xcl from the shortcut, and it will run properly again.
-
it never asked me for a reboot
-
listen guys i just finish my test(stock),on bf3 multy 60players back to karkano(ULTRA)
Im f@@@g amazed by the performance of my card.
It didnt fall under 46 fps and max 59fps.
So smooth..........
I dont know what else to say....
Well done AMD -
Installed 12.11b4, still can't overclock at all
results were a bit better though!
P3371 (3019 graphics score) -
So is it worth jumping to Beta 4 from Beta 3?
-
Dunno, I didn't install beta3 as I wasn't home

How long do you guys think it will be before the final driver releases? Are these betas usually out for a long time before we get a proper driver release? I'm just wondering because I'm going to do a fresh install of windows with the new driver on my ssd just to make sure everything will be working fine, so I would like to have an idea about how long the wait will be for the final release.
