3DMark Vantage stock clock scores, for 7970m CF by jywang:

also in 3Dmark vantage, I noticed that a couple of users have run vantage at higher clocks than others on both core and memory, but still got significantly lower scores, such as this one (more than 3k difference in gpu score):
    @ 1055/1600 , only got 24.5K in GPU score AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3720QM Processor,CLEVO P170EM score: P24498 3DMarks
@ 1040/1540 ,nearly got 28K in GPU score AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3920XM Processor Extreme Edition,Alienware M17xR4 score: P27782 3DMarks

does anyone know why these two scores vary so much, I know the driver versions are different, but what optimization can be used to have such a high score?

weird. I have a much lower vantage score.
This is with the 9.0.0 7900MOD driver but I had simmiliar numbers also with the stock drivers.I thought that lower scores on clevos are due to enduro but now that I saw your score i'm a bit confused :wideeyed:
how ddi you install your 12.7 driver.?? Or does that stornger cpu also affect the gpu score that much??

vantage is heavily CPU affected. if i add the 400 mhz to my 3720 my score goes up substantially

That second one is absurdly high... May have been an error at one point during the test that caused false reporting. Did you run again at same clocks and get the same results?

    @Sega
Can I ask you how did you installed your 12.7 drivers?? casue your score is much higher than other vantage scores in clevo-it seems like it is running without that enduro cripple.

these results are not run by me, but ya the user ran it a couple of times and still getting the same result, it is not false reporting and if you check the link and look at the detailed scoring, you will notice that all test were running fine without any abnormalities...

I just got mine today and benched in at p5803 and 20333 on vantage. Vantage feels a bit low but p score seems ok. Want sure how to link them. Are y'all just using the basic version to bench with and going with defaults?

Also, hwmonitor isn't picking up my GPU, just the CPU. Any advice?

Yes those scores are what I , and other users get on stock clocks so yor machine is alright.
If you want to monitor temps you need to wake up the card first. You can do that by launching any dx application and then turn on HWinfo-I use that as hwmonitor doesant seem to work right for me.
I just launch msi kombustor (it shuold be set to hight performence) ande then launch either HWinfo or MSI afterburner which can also monitor your gpu ussage and temps. hope this helps

Yep thanks very much for your advice :) now if I can just find a guide for installing 12.7 beta lol. From what I hear, it's a hassle and a half. Should I even bother if I'm running ok on the stock drivers?

    Glad I could help :).
When I installed the 12.7 I just instaleld it express ower the stock ones, however you wont see any drastical performance improvement. Sager just released some beta drivers but they also didnt corect anything with the enduro. I would suggest to stick with these drivers, and wait a while for some normal ones. Hopefully it'll be soon as we know now that mythologic and sager are working on it.

    max payne 3 is smoother
    rage is fine
    bf3 is fine as well
crysis 2 seems a bit slower but could be a placebo effect (my card doesnt like OC at all, its defective, hopefully ill get a replacement soon)

    Hello

how much is your metro 2033 Benchmark Average fps result ?

(with latest driver and 1920x1080 DirectX 11 / very high AAA 4xAF (disable Physics and enable Tessellation enable depth of field) Setting , also without OC and with OC )

    Thank you

Metro 2033 Benchmark results, latest drivers installed.

DX11 @ 1080p, Very High, MSAA 4X, AF 4X, Physx disabled, Tessellation enabled, Depth of Field enabled:

    850/1200:
    Average Framerate: 24.20
    Max. Framerate: 43.23
    Min. Framerate: 7.72

    920/1600:
    Average Framerate: 29.40
    Max. Framerate: 54.92
    Min. Framerate: 9.81

DX11 @ 1080p, Very High, AAA, AF 4X, Physx disabled, Tessellation enabled, Depth of Field disabled:

    850/1200:
    Average Framerate: 44.80
    Max. Framerate: 103.04
    Min. Framerate: 9.45

    910/1600:
    Average Framerate: 50.80
    Max. Framerate: 131.13
    Min. Framerate: 9.34

I did the first series of benches with MSAA X4 and DoF both on so that every graphical setting was completely at maximum. I find that DoF is a much harder hit on performance than MSAA X4. The second series of benches are using settings I would expect most users with the 7970M to use with DoF off and using AAA, which looks almost exactly the same however maintains excellent frame rates.

Stock clocks, Very High, AAA instead of MSAA X4, DoF disabled instead of enabled: Avg. FPS increase of 85.12%
Overclock, Very High, AAA instead of MSAA X4, DoF disabled instead of enabled: Avg. FPS increase of 72.79%

EDIT: OC core clocks are different between the two benchmarks because for one reason or another, 920 core wasn't stable with MXAA X4 and DoF off. Strange brew.

    Thank you

how about DX11 @ 1080p, Very High, AAA, AF 4X, Physx disabled, Tessellation enabled, Depth of Field enabled ?

Depth of Field reduce performance more Than MSAA X4 ?

    Thank you again

Yes, you will gain more performance by disabling DoF than turning down the AA. The best boost obviously comes with both settings dialled down of course as the effects are compounded, which is how I prefer to play.

DX11 @ 1080p, Very High, AAA, AF 4X, Physx disabled, Tessellation enabled, Depth of Field enabled:

    850/1200:
    Average Framerate: 28.80
    Max. Framerate: 46.06
    Min. Framerate: 10.52

    910/1600:
    Average Framerate: 34.40
    Max. Framerate: 61.05
    Min. Framerate: 8.36

DX11 @ 1080p, Very High, MSAA 4X, AF 4X, Physx disabled, Tessellation enabled, Depth of Field disabled:

    850/1200:
    Average Framerate: 35.00
    Max. Framerate: 83.16
    Min. Framerate: 7.32

    910/1600:
    Average Framerate: 41.80
    Max. Framerate: 99.94
    Min. Framerate: 8.74

You'll see that from all of the information compiled above, with stock clocks, with DoF on and turning the AA setting down to AAA, you'll gain a 19% performance increase. Comparatively, leaving AA at MSAA 4X and disabling DoF will net you a 44.63% performance increase, while turning AA down to AAA and disabling DoF will increase performance by 85.12%.

hola. forgive my ignorance, but I am a novice in these things.
I also think my graphics card does not work well. i get the same fps in batman ( 51) or BF3 (arround 40 -45) with clocks 850/1200 or 950/1400
the reason for this is that my graphics card does not work well?
in 3dmark 11 i get better score with clocks at 950/1400 but the games run the same with OC

OCing a GPU usually does not yield large or sometimes even noticeable improvements in FPS, it's more of a tool for benchmarking enthusiasts. Take for example those that are flashing vbios of their 680m, even though they are running upwards of a 40% OC the reported fps gain are not as significant.

I've noticed 10-15 FPS increases by OCing my old 580M. I don't play with an OC on my 7970M as it's not needed.

if u want to know if Enduro has been in anyway fixed, NO it s not been fixed so far, and god knows when it will be, hopefully during august when (hopefully again) 12.8 will come out officially.....

from ClevoHM and AW we know that 7970M and680M are more or less performing at the same level at stock clocks/stock OCs, while the 680M runs cooler.
if u want to overvolt (which ill never do on a notebook for soooo many good reasons) then the 680M takes some lead......

In short performance difference in benchmarks is a few percent on stock clocks, but with max OC (note that the 7970M can't be overvolted yet, however the GTX680m with a modded BIOS can) the gap grows to up to 25%. Of course if a modded BIOS is possible/gets released for the 7970m as well it will surely catch up somewhat.

The new drivers basically didn't improve performance at all, neither the Enduro issues as james_het said.

Afaik clevo has an issue with flashing and dumping bios with EM machines.
But I may be wrong tho, you have to take into account that some users don't know how properly use Atiflash (like the fact you need to specify gpu index because there's two gpu, one is the igpu).

Did you select high performance for 3DMark11 in Catalyst control switching? Do that and try it again. It might be running on the HD4000. This happens a lot for me in games. Anything less than 5600 odd is fishy.

AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-740QM Processor,Alienware score: P2541 3DMarks

that's the link. and well, are you sure? would the 740 qm really bottleneck the card that much? D: i have benchmarked higher with an overclocked 560m (over 2600), and i would think that the 7970m at stock would be higher than an overclocked 560m... i may be wrong though...

are there any other 740 qm users who have tried this?

and would this cause me to not be able to run games with really demanding graphics?

Could also be that the card was stuck on idle clocks unless 3DMark11 read the clock speed wrong.
Does the card underperform on games?

I hope that's the case! haha, I ran BF3 at 60 FPS on full ultra settings, and everything set as high as it could go with no problem. But after that, reformatted my hard drive. I have a SSD arriving today and I'm going to install that fresh. Then install BF3 and make sure it still runs the same and i'll let you know how that goes!

So no, I don't think there were any gameplay issues before the reformat.. because i could never run BF3 on max settings at 60 FPS until now with the 7970m.
