this is an exert from benchmark3d:

"Without the slightly elevated 3DMark HDR/SH 3.0 scores for the 8.97 April 18, this new 12.6 9.00 Beta driver would have been extremely close to 1st place, still, this is a good driver that, keep this in mind, focuses on HD7000 cards.

The good things about this driver is the DiRT 3 performance fix, switchable driver support and improved performance with Skyrim (about 10% increase compared to any of other 21 drivers). The bad: I can’t find any flaws, at least not obvious flaws but what I can say is that 8.97 remains the best driver for non-HD7000 cards/owners."

so looks like these drivers concentrate on the 7000 series which is good

Should a Fraps average of 30 - 40 (varies a lot though) in the beginning of Crysis (before finding the dead teammate in the forest) with an OC of 940/1420 be good? Or not?

Notebook check says Crysis 2 has an average of 54fps with everything maxed out in DX11 at 1080p. Doesn't seem right, but I'm a noob, lol.

Can't believe you OCed it that much, my R4 can't do that. Unless MSIA is playing up, which it has been doing.

How's your card/OCing translating to gameplay?

984/1400? it's definitely doable. I can run those clocks for everyday, but i have no need to so I drop it to 950/1400...and right now, playing D3, i have it at stock because I'm already getting 100+fps. There is no need for the OC

yeah i know some games just don't need that but also those games don't overheat the card as bad so is fine leaving OC all the time :)

definitely! Overall though, even overclocked, I find the temps on the 7970's to be very reasonable. And you being down in the swamps, temps must be a major concern

I think your CPU is refusing to work for you. :p

GPU score is perfectly fine, CPU score, not so much. :p
Probably some energy saving mode you have enabled or something

Some kind of powerplan that disables turbo boost and such with the CPU
    CPU throttling
    Faulty CPU
    +++

    I have no idea

    Thanks

probably no body knows yet but the 7970 throttles at 81c and it goes full speed once the temps drop

I experienced this running furmark stability test with 4x and extra voltage 1075v

Tried to stress it with a program called "Core Damage". After 5 min it was 70-74 degrees, but the it the core clock stayed at 3100 mhz. This means that it does not throttle, right?

You need to check while running a 3d app to make sure when both the CPU and GPU are working one is not suffering because your CPU results are too low in the combined tests.

Btw, why are you selling your machine Meaker?

On stock clocks can people please tell me their FurMark (15 min burn in 1080p) and Unigine scores at 1080P please. I need to know the region I should be in as I think my 7970M is significantly weaker than it should be...

In Furmark I only get an average of 24fps, max temp 67oC 99% GPU usage.

Nvidia may be getting a new member lol...

I would look at gaming results rather than arbitrary numbers DJ and powerful I am moving to a system that properly allows the 7970M to stretch its legs.

Is my 7970M faulty then? I never even get remotely those scores at Very High with an OC of 950-1400

Barely ever get over 40fps... I have a turbo boosted 3820QM processor as well... :/ Can you run Furmark at 1080P and post your results at stock clocks please :)

Meaker: It's not great with games either. Performs poorly when I disable the Intel Graphics 4000 and run solely off of the 7970M. In other words, my 7970M only performs well when I enable enduro and set certain programs to high perfomance... It's a joke.

He is running 12.5 beta modded from slick's guide. You can install if by FN+F7 and restart then proceed to install that driver. And yes, 12.5 is better than your current stock Dell driver.
