My first impression as well. I was enjoying the game, and glanced at the FPS- it was a huge shock. Strangely enough, I can't notice any of the tactics used by console games to hide low FPS (copious amounts of motion blur, pixel doubling, etc.). The key is that the servers run at 30 ticks, so the world refreshes at 30fps. Even when the FPS is around 25, there is no noticable mouse lag, and actions are still instantaneous because the game is almost perfectly in sync with the server.
And in case your concerned, the 30 tick servers don't seem to have any detrimental effects in terms of laggy physics or going out of sync. -
Here's Tiger woods 08 and Madden 08 both on 1280x1024, global AA is off. TGW is played on about 75% max settings on the graphics bar slider. Madden is played with all settings on high or highest. It actually plays pretty good on 1680x1050 as well, so does TGW.

Here's one of GuildWars. Its on 1280x800 with everything on max with 4X AA. I can show screenshots off CSS and/or UT3 if anyones interested.
-
Yes but because of the increased power of the shaders against the 7800GTX 256, the 8600GT still takes a bit better AA and high resolution. The 8800GT is another perfect exemple. It has 512MB of GDDR3 1800 at 256bit and performs better than the GTS wich has 640MB of GDDR3 1800 at 320bits because it has more shaders, and that at 1920x1200.
The problem on the 8600M GT is that it's using DDR2 800 rather than GDDR3 1400 for most of them

ut3 please
-
anyone mind showing me some World Of Warcraft gameplay pictures using the 8600M GT graphics card please, and tell me what frame rate you get!
-
this is with a 8600 gt gddr2?
-
yes under winxp with 169.04, 1280x800 tex 3 / world detail 3
-
Anyone got some World Of Warcraft gameplay pictures using a 8600M GT graphics card? I'm interested to know the quality! Please tell me the frame rate as well, thanks!
-
Anyone?

These are taken (not by me, i found them on the net) in maximum quality, although not with 8600M GT:

http://www.sonikstudios.net/beta/images/wowhires/zangar.png
http://www.sonikstudios.net/beta/images/wowhires/shatt.png
In maximum settings the image quality shoud be about the same regardless of your card. With 8600M GT framerates should be over 30, propably even over 60. So no worries there. -
Another one of UT3

NFS PRO STREET (fps in top right corner)
All Settings MAX @ 1280 x 720, NO AA
System in sig
1680 x 1050
All MAX, NO AA
I think i will keep the rest at 1280 x 720, looks just as good and fps is higher
Click on thumbnail to enlarge, click on magnifying glass to enlarge again , then click on picture to make it full size lol!

Team Fortress 2!
All options on max, motion blur on, 4x something or other AA, 2x aniso, resolution @ picture size. The drivers are stock with my machine, and as such I can't get any widescreen resolutions except native...which is odd.
And I'll just show off:
-
I got the same laptop Thaed, go to laptopvideo2go and download the 169.04 drivers for your OS. Follow their instructions on how to install them though.
After doing so you will notice great improvements in games and you will be able to select tons of resolutions -
I don't have any screenshots to add, but just to tease all of you, we'll be having a competition this month (starting in the middle) to giveaway a gaming notebook (can't say which one yet) and it will involve voting on the coolest screenshot from a game. Stay tuned for more
-
Thats quite nice
-
Har! Updated with 169.04 drivers. Settings: All at max, 2x thingy AA, 4x Aniso and resolution as screenshots. Also, V-Sync enabled and hitting my FPS quite a bit, but it's worth it. FPS never go below 30, I'm pleased :>

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Why not use 1680 x 1050 res and no AA? It runs great with motion blur, at those settings and 2 aa.
-
Nah, native runs at around 25FPS for me with v-sync on and no AA - not smooth enough for me, and I hate screen tearing.
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Try some of the fixes in the 8600 stuttering fixes thread. Enabling v-sync through the control panel is better than enabling it in the game.
-
Do you happen to have a GDDR3 8600M GT? 'Cause that may be the problem. I tried tweaking it, it just made the 1280x800 fps increase
1650x1080 stayed locked at 25fps :\
-
-
Thanks for all the screens guys especially for the TF2 screens. My vostro 1700 should be here in a week or so. I'm super excited after seeing what the graphics can do.
-
-
Wow! Better then i expect!
-
Thanks man, howd you get the game so early.
Also are these on 8600M GT overclocked or not? -
I just lightly overclocked it 535/430. It ran pretty smooth with those setting 30-40fps (I have shadow set to low, other all high) I just turned off the fps counter (same command as UT3 btw to enable the fps counter, "stat fps"). The game is based on UT3 engine so if you run UT3 smooth then GOW should also run smooth.
I got my copy from bestbuy last night.. But it should be available in many other place today I think. -
cool thanks, and yea thats what i do as well, i put fps counter on for a bit, see if its at 30, once it is i turn it off since otherwise I will always be like oh **** the games not running smooth when before I was perceiving it to be running smooth
-
What drivers do you use? I've gotten way lower FPS at higher clock at medium :\
-
169.04
I will double check the setting and cap some SS with fps counter on later when i get home later but i think i had it all high minus shadow which was at low.
Edit:
Just double checked, and here were the settings I was using:
okay...not that useful without translation lol...
from top to bottom:
resolution - 1280x800
full screen - on
brightness
postprocess display setting - default
postprocess quality - high
texture quality - high (I just find out there is a "highest" option for this one which I did not know before)
character detail - high
visual effects detail - high
decal quality - dynamic
shadow quality - low
vsync - off
dx10 aa - off (running on XP so...)
So other than texture quality and shadow quality I have everything at their max.
and some SS with counter on:
Edit 2:
Just tried to set the Texture Quality to Highest along with all the other settings at their max... not as bad as I thought I am on 25-40 fps range with occasionally stuttering probably because the larger texture size. -
World in Conflict...1920x1200, DX10 mode, all medium settings, about 25-35 FPS constantly unless zooming in on large explosion/nuclear fireball/large group of units moving through a disintegrating forest/bombed out city surrounded by napalm/gas/nuclear fallout with incoming rocket artillery rounds/heavy artillery shells/ aircraft dropped cluster bombs. -
Why is your copy in that language .... -
The game supports multi-languages.. it automatically shows the Chinese installer when I put the DVD in. (I have the language for non-unicode program set to Chinese, my mother tongue, in the XP language control panel.)
-
i canr help but notice... there are no shadows at all when shadows are set to low
.... cant u even put it to medium and play the game smoothly?
-
anyone have screenshots of hitman
-
Can someone be so kind and post some screens of Crysis, Portal, or Team Fortress 2? Mostly Crysis since I'm sure Source can run great on the 8600.
Thanks! -
That looks amazing. Thanks! Oh btw, what fps are you getting usuallyÉ<
edit: nevemrind, I see 23.1 -
I'll post some later on today
-
And from your experience with the demo, where those settings enough for smooth playing? For example, on that picture the FPS were 23.1, was that enough? Thanks.
-
thanks davron. i posted that a month ago and no one replied. post the pics and + rep for u
-
I think 23 fps is a bit low...
If you have like 29 fps or something it IS playable -
its a matter of preference. ppl have different levels of judging what fps is PLAYABLE.
