    How does it change anything?

The way I see it, 7970m is still unchallenged.

EDIT: better to edit than to post two in a row :D
i do have a question tho if i were to get a M17x with the 7970m will the 3d screen work with it or does 3d only work with the 670 and 675?

They talked about Tesla GPUs and the new GK110. Nothing for notebooks. 7.1 billion transistors inside a notebook? Don`t think so :p

    16 SMX units?

Where the hell do they think the 64 bit FP units are? Just magic them up?

12 for half 64 performance, 10 for full 64 performance.

Has anyone OC'd the 7970M to 960 core and 1425 memory? I'm not sure the memory speed would be possible, but people were saying 1GHz core I believe... And were these OC settings with or without overvolting? Did they require modded BIOS (is there even an official BIOS yet?)? Were there any other special conditions necessary for such an overclock, like a laptop cooler, non-stock thermal compound, or other special cooling measures?

I don't think heavy OC is necessary for the gpu to max out games at very playable frame rates, compared to the stock benchmark on games.

But... But... But... It has the same number of Stream processors as a 6970 desktop variety. If you could get those clocks it'd be the same speed as the fastest 6970 I saw for sale on Newegg. That would be, cool, you know? To have in your laptop and all.

    960/1425 is easy.

At stock voltage it tops out at about 1ghz core / 1.5ghz vram on my card.

If i added a little juice to say 1.075v (stock is 1.05), i would have 1050 core stable all day long

Why on earth would you overvolt for .03 fps gain. When overvolting is known to fry 90 percent of all cards. I fried 2 laptops doing that. I guess I'm guilty of being dumb also.

i don't overvolt but some people need to run the obsolute most that they can (probably for benching)

I'm content with 1ghz core at stock voltage

LOL like 685M or any Geforce mobile will be based on GK110. Not a chance.

1344 shaders might already be here in July like explained a million times already :)

I do hope those reports about 768( or there about) shaders are wrong and its the full 1344 instead

I was looking up specs and comparing Nvidia GPUs.

GTX 680 cut in half should give around P4900 in 3DMark like that screenshot shows, and the same core count, 768 cores (1536/2), and around 100W (195W/2).

If GTX 680M come out with 4GB, there are only two options they can make the GPU out of. GTX 670 or GTX 680. GTX 680 scenario is explained above.
GTX 670 scenario is 1344 cores, removal of 50W (150W-50W) and should score around P7000.

Call me shocked if the rumors of GTX 680/2 is true.

No reason the 680M could not be a 660 with a 256bit mem bus, they did it with the 460M and 450 and it would just mean not disabling one 64bit mem bus.

I don't think it will be a full 680 core, I think they need the best parts for the 690, but the efficient 670 cores could find their way in.

We just have to wait and see at this point.

Need to run at maximum speed for benching, at the risk of bricking their card? That's like saying I need to eat as many hot dogs as I can in order to prove that I can. People do it, and they're only harming themselves, but "need" doesn't come into it.

95% of the time you wont brick the newer card the driver (on NVidia atleast)
stop working and the app closes down or you get a screen lock or you get artifacs or flimmer way before you brick your card due to Over volting /overclock
often when you brick your card you havent been paying atention to your temps
and how fast they topout on heat often its the circuets around the gpu that gives out before the gpu becouse of exstensive running at the gpu heat limit

    Hello!

I just would like to know if ATI will produce a HD7990m chip card...
I could buy now an HD7970m card whereas last year, we were having the choice between two chips: 6970m and 6990m...

Thanks very much for your answers.

It probably won't be for a while. They'll most likely wait for whatever the hell Nvidia releases. If it competes with the 7970M, I don't see why they wouldn't release a 7990M a few months (maybe less) later.

Tbh all we can say is rumors.
In my opinion I wouldn't think so because 7970m is 100w which is the max tdp for laptop gfx so far so personally I don't think ati would make another card but then again it is just an opinion :/

    Congratz bro! Enjoy it :)

You obviously don't know the guys on the m17x forum...and yes, there were multiple bricked 580m's on the .92v bios. It is sport for them...and they will do it at risk of bricking the card

THis I believe is the fastest single card laptop on the planet: almost 7K 3dmark11 Tessellation ON. With drivers, this is a 7K laptop...close to 8k in 3dmark11 with tess off
