Arrandale is almost set to january 7 2010. GT300 architecture just came out, the fermi based GPU launched this week.
But nothing mobile yet!
-
Arrandale is January 7th, its clear and certain, just 5000 mobility series unclear...
-
Jan. 7th is most likely just a paper launch, I wonder when options will really start becoming available...
-
i think that you will able to buy laptops pretty soon with it, jsut remember i7, they just released it, and laptops appeared. (i personally woudlnt be supprised that they rellease laptops on 7th of Jan, because all OEM have arrandale for a while now, so they can do whateve they want and implement them, and Intel has really big plans for it, therefore i dont see why we wouldnt see arrandale laptops on 7th of Jan)
we'll see
but thats what we know, 5000 is what we dont know... -
I dont suppose we have any educated guesses as to ow long ATI will take over getting these into laptops? Intel will probably be quick to get Arrandale out in new machines, definitely first 2 months of 2010 we'll see announcements.
-
Intel released the quad core i7s roughly on schedule and you could order it a bit after announcements but most didn't receive it until almost 2 months later. I expect ATI Mobility 5 series in Q3 2010 when Calpella is refreshed. Another important thing to note is whether the ATI Mobility 5 series is actually based on the ATI 5 series (for desktops), since some sources have posted that it will be rehashed 4 series. ATI just released the 5 series on desktops and there have been massive shortages lately.
-
-
If we go by history, ATIs Mobility and Desktop cards are the same, being mobility downclocked versions of the desktop cards.
I see no reason to stop doing that. Yes there are shortages, but by 2010 it should have been fixed...they cant lag that bad (though I did read that one of their biggest partners on GPU was getting of the boat some time ago) -

ATI ® Mobility Radeon ™ HD 5850 ?
Must be a misprint, eh? But we can dream, right?
-
Might be wrong... i doubt they can get the 5000 series cards in notebooks yet... the 5870 is very toasty and supply of cards is low thanks to the ever useless TSMC so it going to be next year.... they most probably mean 4850 card...

This site is also showing the Radeon 5850, and availability in only a week:

Looks like good things are ahead, sooner than we thought, eh?

It is interesting that both of the German sites are listing the spec as an ATI 5850 card......
One can only HOPE, right?

If it arrives I'll be happy. Mind you, paper release is supposed to be in January so they'd be a bit early lol

Doubt you will see any ATI 5xxx series for a while since the mobile series has moved to 40nm too... -
Ya, I found out about the Acer and posted the details here if you can't read the page for some reason http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=436043
The part that's of particular interest to me is the fact that it sites DDR3 for the video card. I thought the transfer to mobile would have DDR5. I'm hoping it's at least 256 bit and DDR3, best would be 256bit and DDR5 of course. -
5850HD is either GDDR3 or GDDR5 with 256bit I see no reason for it not being 256bit.
Now this is me hoping that gaming laptops get GDDR5 -
With a 58xx I think they're all "gaming" at that point.

I don't see why ATI is releasing the 5970 that early while there is a high demand for the 5770 and 5850. That's where the shortages are coming from!
I don't think we'll the mobile before 2010, really. Demand is too high for desktop and production is really low. -

I hope other manufacturers soon follow. Come on, leaks!

Bu-bu-but... where's the 57XX/56XX?
-
what do you think of that?
http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/16544/1/
will mobile versions appear at the same time? and if yes, will they be better than 5000 mobile?
P.S. if there is another topic on fermi mobile cards, please redirect me there -
Fermi mobile won't be available at the same time as the desktop variants, and I doubt you will be able those in Jan.

And the MSI 5770HD is here -

It makes my baby feels like she is a real high end card
EDIT: Still no new shipments of 5850/5870 and 5970 seems already discontinued. Time to hold yourself together ATI! -
Not really ATI's fault on the poor yields...
-
-
For that we have to keep waiting. TSMC cant keep up with production, and ATI is seeing shortages ATM.
Mobility, at best, I would say Q1 2010 -
It's going to be funny when Nvidia tries to release Fermi. Both Nvidia and ATI use TSMC for their 40nm production. TSMC can't even put out enough viable silicon to fill orders for ATIs desktop 5800 series of cards, how the heck are they going to fill orders for the rest of ATIs line-up due before the end of this year in addition to a high-end launch from Nvidia in January? Sounds like DX11 hardware will be in short supply for a long time.
None of that even accounts for mobile chips!
Here's hoping Global Foundries gives TSMC some competition soon! -

In my view, things are looking up for the ATI Mobility HD 5850. We may see these very soon!

Love the talk about ATI, just wished AMD would step up their game...

Well I got a 5850 on my desktop, though it's only running WinXP 32 bit on 4 GB of RAM. Of course I'm limited to DX9.0c functionality so I can't comment on DX10/11 capabilities, but I'll tell you what, even Crysis gets it's butt handed to it in 1920 x 1080 resolution all DX9 high settings with FPS varying quite a bit (probably due to my dual core CPU). Far Cry 2 runs maxed out quite easily too at 1080p with 4x and 8x AA. Mirror's Edge is the same way with max settings, PhysX off (you don't want your CPU handling it!), 4x AA (don't need it any higher), 1080p, though it screen tears like a mother even with VSync on. I must say it's so beautiful to play and watch at such a high resolution. Unfortunately the FPS varies ALOT, even more than Crysis (I'm pretty sure it's an ATi related issue, as ME is of course Nvidia centric), but most of the time it's running well above 60 fps.
I can only hope for notebooks to get the 58xx mobile cards soon. These things are freaking amazing! -
How much (by percentage) are mobile version slower than desktop on average? (+- approximate figure)
-
around 20% slower for ati cards I've heard, unless it's a high end card
-
I would compare shader count and clock speed to match the mobile and desktop parts to get an accurate comparison. Usually the mobile high end is equal to the desktop middle end.
-
well i have a single 5770 on my desktop paired with the base core i5, and for a midranged machine it dominates pretty much everything i throw at it. apparently with crossfire 5770's, certain games perform identical (and in some cases better) than a single 5870.
but if a mobile 5850 performs like a desktop 5770, then you shouldn't have any worries whatsoever for performance unless you're gaming over 1920 x 1200. the card rocks even with a 128 bit bus. -
. My friend has a setup with CF 5770 and a I7 920 coming this week. But as a 5770 is basically a 5870 cut in half (same clocks, but 128bits bus VS 256, 800 SP versus 1600 and 16 rops versus 32) they should be pretty similar.
The only game computer does not max at 1080p is Crysis Warhead. Crysis one is flush (20~28FPS) for single player but probably would not cut it for multiplayer. -
Dang, no mobility ones, but the 5750HD and 5770HD are being launched everywhere...

5770's were released back in late september or early october i believe, but these models you linked here just have redesigned fans it appears.

Yes, it seems like to cut down prices or that is what Fudzilla is saying...
-
yeah because the fan noise at default is silent. it runs at perhaps 30-30% fan speed and it's a whisper.
