The following is what happens when I manage to stay behind enemy lines! I was like a ninja. I managed to deny use of the tunnel leading up to the second stage of Hill 137 for the longest time before they gave up trying to use it, then I just wrecked havoc on their tickets the rest of the round, I eventually went 33-6 when the rounded ended, funny thing is, I think my team lost anyways.![]()

no the funny thing is how the guy that only killed 15 people and died 17 times has a higher score than you

Can you say, medic spammer!
-
Okay I have a few questions.
1) Why is it that sometimes I can spot 2 guys in a row like a billion yards away and then other times I'll be sprinting after somebody trying to knife him while slamming my face down on the Q key but it's not spotting? The BF2 spotting system was way more consistent, unless it's a problem on my end.
2) Are there any maps w/o vehicles? I once played on this snowy village map that rocked. It was all house to house fighting.
3) Does health regenerate like other modern FPSers? Like, if I'm seeing red in the corners of my screen I should take cover and wait? Sometimes it melts away quickly, other times it's slower (I'm guessing I was standing near a health pack for the former). -
1)Spotting in BC2 isn't as consistent as it is in BF2, it's been like that since day one. To prevent spot spam, there's a limit as to how often you can spot enemies in BC2, exceed that, you won't spot anyone.
If you are right behind someone, don't spot him, your character's voice over can be heard by the guy you are after, thus exposing your position.
2)I believe there are vehicles on every map (combat or non-combat), except the one you mentioned - Cold War.
Most of the Squad Deathmatch maps don't have vehicles, try that mode out.
3)In normal mode, your health regenerates slowly over time, much faster if you are next to a medic pack. In hardcore mode, your health does not regenerate over time, you have to use medic pack to heal. -
Just wanted to say that I just played my first hour of Vietnam. It's amazing. More people need to get it ASAP...

Im still holding out for a sale
But yes I plan to get it and start playing.
If after the X-Mas sale its not part of any sale item then I guess I will pay the $15.00 for it. -
I'm in the same boat as you... I feel a special coming up, I just know it!
-
Ahh I see I see. Thanks!
-
I got it for free
Actually a cousin sent me the key. And he only payed like $6 (or 5 Euros) where he is. I did read on the Steam forums that that side of the world was having a nice sale on it. I wouldn't suggest it though, as it involves using a Proxy where all your info goes (like your credit card or Paypal, thats a no-no)
Anyway, I also think there must be a similar sale coming up soon. I still gotta hit the regular BC2 more often. I've had it for 2 weeks and I'm only rank 10

Now that I got both BC2 and Vietnam, I am having a strange issue with BC2(not vietnam)
3/5 times, whenever an enemy is infront of me, it moves fast like flash and I cannot shoot him but get shot instead.
Its as if there was a noclip going on.
Is it a graphic issue, game bug, cheat or what??
It is really getting into my nerves. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Never really heard of this happening, are you sure it isn't lag? -
For those of you who are playing Vietnam, how are things going? Are you getting tired of it yet? Still enough players?
-
There are still plenty of players, and plenty of fun.
-
It always takes me forever to find a good server but i enjoy it more than normal BC2.
-
Still fun and PC players unlocked Operation Hastings 2 days ago. Not many servers for me to choose from with good ping, living in the middle of nowhere.
-
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
No, its not.
I use 8 MBPS internet alone if there was network lag, and my system can preety much handle those graphics.
I experience those stuff in Chicago servers. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Could be so-called "rubberbanding", a few people have been experiencing it.
-
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
So, I can't get it fixed then?
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Well, apparently it's some kind of bug, but if it's happening a lot then it may be something else. Perhaps you should try reinstalling BC2.
Also, lag issues have been known to be present in BC2 even with the best connection in the world and pings. -
was playing some squad dm today and linked up with some guys on another Mumble server... voice comms really changes everything!
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Yeah BC2 has in game voice but nothing can beat Mumble.
I was talking to somebody on our mumble server while playing and some people were using the in-game so I had like constant talking in the background while I was trying to conversate, I wonder if my PTT key is bound the same for both mumble and in game lol... that means they heard me talking but I do not think it is. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
There's nothing like in-game working voicechat. Sure Mumble is great but then you have to coordinate too much with who you are playing with and when and where.
Whereas, if the built-in voice chat worked in BC2 on any server, a lot more people would communicate. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Yeah external voice chat is for people that know one another and friends and groups of people like ourselves not randoms.
In game voice chat is nice to have, still never seen one with quality and clarity of mumble. -
As it turns out, I'm a pretty good Blackhawk pilot. I flew one for the first time yesterday with a friend of mine on the minigun, on Valparaiso Rush last night. We didn't get shot down once, he got over 50 kills, and I ended up being second on the entire team with 2 kills and 3 deaths.
-
I wish shooting down Blackhawks was as easy as it was in BF2
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
The Blackhawk in BC2 feels clunky and awkward to fly. It should have handled like the Blackhawk from BF2. The Huey in Vietnam is a step in the right direction in terms of flight control though.
-
Nah, there are more than enough counters to choppers in BC2, especially with the tracer dart, AA emplacements all over the maps, and the AT4. Nine times out of ten, helicopters are just free kills for the other team, so it's good that competent pilot/gunner teams can be rewarded.
Feels fine to me, and I played plenty of Battlefield 2. It just takes a little getting used to, is all. Getting into a good circle pattern with your gunner on the inside is pretty simple. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I flew the chopper a few times in Vietnam the other day only to be promptly shot dead by a sniper every time almost.
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
The SVD and M21 can take down the Huery in Nam' with about two clips worth of ammunition using magnum ammo. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Yeah this was a one shot kill to me, not the chopper. It was a hardcore server and the M40.
Guy had good vision of where the chopper takes off and would shoot me right out of the pilots seat almost every time I got off the ground. so annoying. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Yeah, BC2 and it's little nuances are what really turn me off about the game. I haven't played Vietnam in a week.
-
Heh maybe the cheaters are back? I've seen some cheats where players in BC2 glow florescent red so you can see players through walls, rocks, vehicles. Combine that with auto-aim, could probably make sniping someone from a helicopter seat pretty easy.
-
I agree. It does take some getting use to.
I guess im just use to all of these flight sims that i have played. -
i think there are some people hacking because i have played against people who were head shotting me everytime with a 870 and/or xm22 from across the map or just one shot killing me. i dont call people a hack but there was some flags bieng raised in that game.
-
Alright, I can't wait any longer, I'm going to go buy Vietnam (yes, full price) right now. With my luck, those of you who have been waiting for a special will probably have one tomorrow morning, I'm just tired of waiting. $15 is less that what my food is going to cost me for dinner tonight hahah!
-
Yep, this game is sweeeet.
-
Here's me trying to keep this thread alive: was playing a few nights ago and we were getting sniped really hard as the NVA defenders. I flanked the attacking team and ended up coming up way behind their snipers. This explains the rest!
I love my flamethrower!
Edit: there were about 4 more snipers to my right on the next hill over, which I had just introduced to my flamethrower. I only thought about getting a screenshot later on before getting these 3 kills. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
aww just a picture, need to make videos
nvr used the flame thrower pretty good weapon I guess? does it kill instantly or take a bit of time? -
Man, the flamethrower is sooo deadly, I love it! They either 1) Die instantaneously or 2) Light on fire and start screaming as their health slowly decreases to zero; it's quite the experience really. But note that flames can be extinguished by medpaks and they can still shoot you while on fire (with reduced vision), so keep that flamethrower going until they're dead! It's got about a 15ft range, so you really need to get up close and personal with the enemy to use it effectively. Works best up close around an MCOM, both defending and attacking.
With the picture above, I flanked their position through that "hidden" back passage (to the left in this picture) and snuck up the hills they were sniping us from. Had I not flanked and tried to rush through the open ground, I'd be a dead man.
I hope that if they ever release a patch for Vietnam, that they make the fuel tanks for the flamethower shootable so they explode killing all within a certain radius. Now THAT would be cool!
-
Sorry, I should have added, you should definitely try it out the next time you're on!
-
hey dudes,
so this thread has mostly died off, so I don't see any harm in asking the following question here. I've been working on piecing together a desktop over at desktopreview.com, pretty much with BFBC2 and BF3 in mind. Desktopreview.com isn't a very busy site, but a few members have come out and helped me.
ORIGINAL POST
Long story short, I'm looking to put a desktop together which can max out BFBC2+Vietnam, and will probably be good enough to run BF3. I know there's no info out there for BF3, but I'm sure we can make some pretty close guesses. I put together a wishlist at Newegg, and was wondering if any of you would mind taking a quick look and giving me your opinions.
LINK to my Newegg Wishlist
Anyways, don't mean to hijack this thread or anything, but it is kind of sorta on topic, and it's not like I'm interrupting any conversations. If an admin thinks this post doesn't belong here, I apologize and feel free to remove it.
Any feedback will be appreciated, cheers!

Instead of GTX460 get a 6870
Just about as strong as the 5870 but cheaper, after rebate its only like $190
Newegg.ca - XFX HD-687A-ZNFC Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity
You can also softmod a 6850 to a 6870 to save more if you want.
Instead of i5 2500k get i7 2600k
Newegg.ca - Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I72600K
It will be worth it in the long run, as you can upgrade the GPU later and keep this mobo/cpu combo for a long time.
That is the main 2 changes I would make, rest looks good. -
I think you guys are exaggerating the power and ability of the flamethrower, now the flame tank is good but not the primary weapon. I've knifed numerous flamethrowers in the face and the knife kill is always going to be faster and the range at which you can use the flamer is quite limited. If you're going to surprise attack from the rear like your image shows, again I'd go with the knife. I suppose it's a nice addition but the flame doesn't do enough damage to make it worthwhile to throw out a primary weapon in exchange for a flamethrower. I'd go with a 1911 before I went with a flamethrower, case and point Tell me how far you get with a flamethrower on the Phu Bai Map. I realize that the flamethrower is useful in certain situations, but I'm just saying that Situation NEVER occurs, where a knife couldn't handle it just as well if not better.
-
Using that same logic, you wouldn't need half the weapons in Bad Company 2.
-
So which classes do you guys seem to bond with the most? When I first started playing (during the Steam sale at $6.67 ^^)) I used the medic class but soon realized that I wasn't used to the pace/feel of the game yet in order to rack up kills and unlock the medpack/defib. So I switched to the engi class and pretty much stayed behind my team repairing tanks and sending rockets into walls (I remember during my first hour of playing, my whole team was getting WRECKED by this grounded heavy MG, and people were yelling "Take that #@%@ out now!" So we're all trying to land rockets at this MG on this roof and finally someone gets it dead-on and BAM! it was like a blitzkrieg after that. Everyone exploded out of cover and just swarmed that base. This was during rush btw).
It's pretty much all I do 90% of the time (occasionally I bust out the medic class to heal). This is probably the first game I've played with destructible environments, so every time someone spots a sniper in a 2nd story window and I manage to not only blow him sky high but also a chuck of the roof along with him, yeah I get pretty excited
-
My engineer and assault classes are the most advanced. Then comes recon, then comes medic. My favorite so far is the engineer with shotguns, but I already have platinum on the 870 Combat and the SPAS-12 Combat so I now play with the Saiga.
I just hate staying behind the action and need something to kill quick, while I fix my tanks and break the enemy's. I'm not skilled enough to pull the trigger fast enough yet, lol. -
I've played them all. Depends on the map and situation too. Atacama Desert I like to be engineer, but when I keep getting sniped I pick the recon class and give payback, then resume my business as an engineer.
-
Well obviously you can't use the flamethrower in all situations, but if you're telling me the knife is better than the flamethrower, you're also telling me your knife has a 15ft range with the added shock value of a flamethrower, and registers every hit. I guess it's all down to personal preference, but tell me that you can defend those MCOM's that are in tight locations with a knife better than I can with a flamethrower, then we can meet 1v1 online and prove that theory. I guess it depends if you play hardcore vs. softcore; on hardcore the flamethrower is pretty much instant death.
I taken out entire squads with my flamethrower numerous times, as I have with my knife. It's just a question of having the Lightweight perk, Body Armor, and knowing your map so you can 1) move up using cover, and 2) flank them without being seen; it's really not that hard.
