There are a surprising number of cheaters on BC2 still. The last few games I've played there were at least two cheaters banned while I was there. One was even a level 50 player (lol, why would you @ 50?)
-
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
I did shared this information about the cheaters before but was suggested about fixing my network lags if it existed.
I have found some players using noclip mode so that I can't get them but get shot instead.
-
I'm getting frustrated with this game again. I was doing reasonably well for a while. Now all of a sudden hits aren't registering again. I unload a full clip into someone (all "X" hit indicators) they turn around shoot me with a pistol and I die while reloading. I am aiming at their head too.
-
I find some games there is flawless hit detection(more times than less) and others are just obviously laggy. The cheaters are there but not for very long, they usually get banned within minutes it seems.
This was the best $15 I have spent in the last year easily. I clap to DICE and EA for giving high quality products for less than they would have been with say, Activision?
EDIT: add "narsnail" in Vietnam, I play quite a bit. -
I'll take the flamethrower over the knife if I'm going for a rear assault, especially with multiple targets. On occasion I still get hit register problems so the knife is more of a liability in this situation. I'll still die because there's usually more guys elsewhere covering them, but the ones I'm attacking won't have much of a chance as long as I keep flaming and strafing to avoid their return fire.
As for the flame tank, when Vietnam just came out, I used it a lot to root out enemies hiding behind rocks or bushes, but over time it became ineffective. I got no support from teammates and as tactics evolved, I kept getting RPG'd or TNT'd from various directions.
For BC2 Vanilla it was the engineer although I originally bought it to play with the XM8 LMG. For some reason I just clicked with the AKS and I was just effective with it on most maps along with my support using the rpg or gustav. I admit though that as soon as I got 5 gold stars with the Gustav I used it almost exclusively to get platinum, but I stopped using it afterward. For Vietnam I go with assault most times - the M16 is just fun to use. Lately I've been going with engineer since I've been racking up most of my kills in tanks, especially against Hueys on Hastings. I even got a pilot on the winning team to rage at me!

Ouch, sorry to hear that. I always try to join the lowest possible ping servers available but even then I experience some lag (strangely on the server list, server A will list it as a 46 ping but when I join I all of a sudden have 150-200 ping?!). TF2 is also weird as I'll see a server advertising let's say, 99 ping, but when I join my ping is around 20. Yeaaaaaaawut?
Anyways, your story reminds me of something else that just happened today. I was inside this house defending it when all of a sudden I hear a window break behind me and a machine gun opening fire. He was maybe 5 feet behind me, but as I was turning around, I was maybe only shot twice. On top of that, I managed to headshot him with my uzi. I felt pretty bad for the guy because I know exactly what it feels like to get the drop on the guy, only to end up getting "unlucky" or "laggy" and end up dying
-
I totally agree with you man, I still play vanilla or nam on a pretty much daily basis (much to my gf's delight
). I've linked up with a community from reddit and we have our own servers/mumble chat. I've been playing with them for a while now and there is ALWAYS enough people online/on mumble to squad up with and have some fun; I've gotten to know a few of them pretty well and it's great. In all honesty, playing with that group has totally changed the game dynamics for me.
If any of you are interested in joining me up and want access to our Mumble server, PM me and I'll send you the info. It's pretty much a public group and as long as you behave maturely, you're more than welcome to come hang out with us.
-
How do you view in-game ping and fps? Is there a console command so you can always see it?
-
In game FPS: I've always used FRAPS for any game
In game ping: I'm pretty sure it's another thing that has been broken since the get-go. You'll be able to see your ping to a server from the server browser, but once you're in game the numbers that show up are definitely wrong from my experience. I.e. it'll show 35ms ping in the server browser and show me 150ms ping in-game, even though I don't lag. -
EA explained the ping. What you see in the browser is actual ping to/from the server. What you see in-game is the true round trip time to the server, processed in-game, and then returned back to you. I'll see if I can find the explanation.
-
Ive done that a couple of times, I remember one time someone opened up on me with an M60 from about 20m away and he shot maybe 20+ rounds at me(forgot how many hit me) and i raised my M1 and put two shots at high center mass and droped him. i felt bad because ive been in a lot of simular situations where its usually me dying.

Putting this here because i didn't want to start a new thread + you're probably the only guys who really care about this:
Regarding the BF3 release:

Not crazy information, but information regardless!

I thought nothing was to be said of BF3 until GDC in early March.

My computer caught some viruses and frequenly crashes so I need to reinstall my OS.
I have installed BC2 and Vietnam. DO I need to backup something or everything in stored in steam? -
No, all your stats and progress are tracked by the account server, like previous battlefield games. There is no need to backup locally, unless you want to backup your game settings, e.g. keyboard mapping, etc.
-
Not for multiplayer, its all in EA's server.
You can make a backup of bc2 in steam so you dont have to re-download like 10gigs. -
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
Where is the installation? errrr 10gigs file?
-
You can either do it through steam or copy the steamapps folder.

Thanks a lot for the link!

That's also one of the benefits of Steam over EADM. I just found this out, but with EADM, you can't backup your game files. I've had to re-download the game 3 times already (twice in one day actually: EADM crashed at 95% and for some reason resume download didn't work, so 5hrs+ and ~16Gb downloaded). I should have done what Vicious did and grabbed a copy off those ridiculous Xmas Steam sales because I just learnt the hard way that EADM sucks.
Also I think they might limit your downloads to 6, so after that my game is probably going to be useless. Gotta look into that a bit more... -

EADM sucks, that's how I bought BF2142 and I had so many problems with it.

God damn defibrillator. It's nice when using it to kill people actually works, but sometimes it just decides not to...either that, or this wookiee was wearing a rubber ghillie suit. >_<

I just hate it when I have the defib out and I have to use it on an enemy out of surprise, I know I've hit them with it, and it doesn't work and they proceed to blast my face off. Bah.
I never purposefully use the defibs offensively. Too unpredictable. -
I hate when I go to defib someone and another medic gets there at the same time and tries to defib as well and you get the TK.
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Where I play there is no chance to TK anyone. Softcore > hardcore.
-
Lets not get into the softcore vs. hardcore debate here, I've seen too many of those and they always end up nowhere.
-
I hate it when I throw a grenade right at someone's foot and it goes off and they just keep strolling through like it never hit them.
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Hardcore should be called campcore cause that's all everyone ever does which is why I stay away.
-
Hardcore is only good if people communicate. But since the in-game VOIP is fubar, and even so you can only talk within your squad, it's kinda useless. You almost need a commander in hardcore to inform the rest of the team who's going where and doing what, even if they don't dictate, they can at least offer a play by play.
-
Using Mumble has totally changed this game for me. Being able to talk with my squadmates on Mumble completely adds a new dimension to this game. It's one thing I hope they fix in BF3. The offer is still there if anyone wants to join us up on Mumble, just let me know and I'll point you in the right direction!
Side question: My mouse can sidescroll. Through the Microsoft Mouse driver tool, I remapped scroll-wheel (right push) to press 'M', thus displaying my minimap. Is this considered a macro and can I get pb-banned for it? -
Punkbuster doesn't care what you do with your input devices. If they did, millions of people would be banned for stuff like scroll-firing semi-automatic weapons in Call of Duty.
It's actually one thing I wish they did ban for, instead of Steam overlays, or having the wrong version of your graphics driver. >_< -
Thanks man! Ma-ster-shroom! (to the tune of G-I-Joooooe)
-
I guess somebody knows where my avatar is from
-
You can get banned for macros?? Ive been using a few keyboard macros and i havent been banned yet.
-
No you can't, that was my point.
-
I thought macros were ban worthy in BF2? Anyone ever encountered someone using a firing macro with the G36E? (Single shot mode turned into full-automatic, but with single shot accuracy with the help of macros). Maybe I was wrong and it was just server specific rules, but I do remember people being banned for using macros.
-
I don't think I've ever heard of that. I'm really not even sure how PB would know if you're using macros or not, unless it detects a specific macro software. But I highly doubt it would kick for using mouse driver software with the ability to use macros.
-
Yea, I did some more poking around: looks like I was wrong, it wasn't through pb or anything, it was server specific rules. Thanks!

i have always been a first-person shooter fan. there is no competition to BF. -
yep, I bought so many high profile games on Steam through the holiday sales, and have yet to play them. All my time and attention is on BFBC2! I don't get enough rest, I play right after I get home from work, on my day offs I neglect my errands and appointments, I've stopped working out, and even when I load up and run the other games with in a 5 minutes of running it I exit and go back to playing BFBC2 multiplayer. Help me!
EDIT: It's now 12:26am here in hawaii, which means it's Sunday and I'm obligated to go to Holy Mass this morning, but I can't seem to stop playing
-
Do any of you guys use Mumble? We're thinking of putting up a Mumble server, the voice quality is incredible compared to TS3. Plus, it has an overlay that works with most games to show you when you're in game who's talking.

Any advice on fixing a broken friends list? I'll punch in a name and hit add friend, and it will say "request sent", but no request will actually go through. Confirmed this while sitting in a lan party... has anyone come across this before? I heard that sometimes it will go thru if both players are sitting on the main screen, but who does that? And how do you fix this?
-
Friends list is broken.
-
I don't think it's broken; it's just capped at 20 players (for whatever reason). Trying to send or receive a request beyond that will fail.
-
No, it's broken. I have under 20 friends and requests to add friends have ended up in never never land, same thing when someone said they tried to add me, never got the request. I'm not the only one to experience this. Plus if you delete someone off the friends list, it doesn't necessarily delete the intended person but some random person in your list.
-
Sounds like bad luck...I haven't had any trouble sending or receiving invites, nor deleting old friends I don't play with.

I'm pretty much done with BF:BC2. Now it's on to Crysis 2 and Shift 2: Unleashed plus possibly Homefront if it's any good.

I had so much fun on Vietnam last night. We were dinking around and one of the guys I play with was recording. This is what resulted:
