Based on a comparison with other cards in that tier, I say about 40 FPS min.

Usually playing Battlefield 3 on the lowest detail also give you a better advantage.
That and using Color Bling mode.
Much easier to spot on the UI.

My brother plays BF3 on a AMD Phenom 2 x3 710 @ 2,6 GHz paired with a OCed HD 4770.
That old budget rig pulls 30+ fps on low.
Probably gain some more with a core unlock and OC but the motherboard wont support it.

I can't play the game when my version isn't updated?

 

Well, the single player works but only in offline mode.

Coop and multiplay won't work unless you can find a server who didn't get updated which is highly unlikely due to tight server licenses.

Otherwise, you be constantly kicked for version mismatch.

I kinda wish there is a way to update via copy and paste but the very strict and ridiculously slow file checking defeats that.

 

Does anyone know what affects zoom time? Is it the weight of the weapon?

Oh and in an attempt to finish unlocking all my weapons, I tried playing some squad deathmatch last night. I've never really played it before as there don't seem to be many SQDM servers, but I had a lot of fun. I think it might be my new favorite game play style. It seemed to be that people actually tried working as a team more often than not. I'm surprised it isn't more popular.

 

Can you guys add me? I don't have any friends that play this game and I really want to play CO-OP.

 

Apparently people get mad if I use the DAO-12 with Holo and Slugs on HC, Because I will find a corridor and just walk down it shooting everyone I see until I run out of bullets and die.

Not so much with the USAS though, not a fan of that gun (although since I ran through all the DAO unlocks working on the USAS with holo flechetts. Not nearly as fun)

 

People will get mad at every single weapon in the game if they get killed by it. A few rounds ago I managed to flank and knife this camping sniper a couple times. He then said in chat "omg nerf knives so lame"

Yeah... except I generally end up getting almost a 1 shot 1 kill ratio with the dao and extended mags. And then I run away as fast as I can trying to reload

I killed a couple of inf guys with the mobile AA. They spam AA gun is overpowered and needs to be nerfed more.

Seriously? That gun requires like 14 hits to kill a single inf at any range.
Make it worse that the hit marker isn't reliable at all. You get feedback when dealing suppression around them anyways.

 

Finally got a decent sniper! Using the semi-automatic was a nightmare. Being a recon in BF3 is weird, I think I really got used to BFBC2.

 

I play the sniper a lot.

I learned very quickly that using the semi auto sniper rifle was not the way to go. I could not get kills for squat.

Switched over to bolt action SVD and immediately started getting better results.

 

The only thing I can't stand with bolt action sniper rifles is being forced to zoom out while reloading.

 

I'm MGC_BustaCap on Battlelog. I'm up for some gaming. I'd join the NBR clan but, unfortunately, that's against my clan's policy. I primarily do Conquest but am willing to do other modes.

Yeah, I had a 20-7 round last night with all the kills being with the mobile AA. They just nerfed the AA in the last patch, but yeah, people whine no matter what you use. It's not an issue with the AA being overpowered...its in how it is used. I always lead planes when using the gun, even when they're at a far distance...I always ping the hell out of them. I also have some tricks I use. First, I'll get a missle lock and immediately fire. As soon as both missles release, I'll immediately go back to guns and damage them while their dumping flares and bobbing and weaving. Then when missles are reloaded, I'll immediately go back to missles. It is definitely hard to bring down aircraft (post-patch), but if you've a gameplay to address the nerf, that nerf is somewhat neutralized. Flares help with helicopters (and tanks and sniper-placed SOFLAMs) with laser sights, and I always use the engineer class when using the mobile AA. Hell, I get a lot of kills in the stationary AA, too. It only pisses people off because it counters the domination of choppers and planes that you usually see in servers...they can't like they normally would if there's a competent mobile AA.

I thought there was a perk for this which enabled you to reload without zooming out (straight-cut bolt, or something of that nature). You have to earn it, though. I know it is supposed to keep your eye on the scope, but don't know if it keeps your zoom the same when reloading. I haven't used it yet (I have it, though)...maybe I'll give it a spin tonight.

 

Yeah, you're talking about the "straight-pull bolt". It's one of the later upgrades you unlock on the bolt-action rifles. With it, all that happens when you reload is crosshair movement.

 

What's a good bolt action sniper rifle to use for a recon noob to learn with? I'd rather not have to take the time to unlock the perks for all the weapons when I'm only in the mood to play recon occasionally.

 

You can be in multiple Platoons in BF3 (But im guessing you know that already) and then choose your primary platoon.

 

The sv98, m40a5 and l96 are basically the same with some minor differences (same damage, different bullet speeds, reload time). The sv98 is the first one you will unlock, the L96 is unklocked with the B2K assignment
The m98 which is the last one you unlock is significantly better for one hit kills: it has more damage but then less ammos. The bullet speed is also greater on this one and you have less bullet drop. In the last patch, the difference is less pronounced between the first 3 and the m98 as you now have the 1.25 damage multiplier for the chest, which allows you to have one hit kills without a headshot with any of those bolt actions in hardcore mode.

I don't mind the stationary AA much except in a couple of maps where they have clear view of the air for 2/3 of the map.

In the hands of decent AAer, I found them pretty annoying.

Though I did enjoy the 0hk of the tv missile before they nerfed it yesterday. But I learned how lenient is the hitbox for the tv missile against vehicles.

Ahh...so NBR uses the Battlelog platoon system...OK, gotcha.

 

I don't care what the stats say, I love me my L96 over any other sniper. But that may just be because Tis what I used in BF2.

In any case, ultra looks like high which looks like medium... take your pick.

 

I know it could run it. I've a friend with an Asus g74 that can play BF3 but some options must be in high/medium.
All I ask was if it could run it ALL IN ULTRA, not asking if could run the game.

 

In short, no.

But you can try, maybe 15-25 fps average. fps also affects your rate of fire in the game.

 

You will not be able to play in all Ultra settings. I play with all High settings on the laptop listed in my sig with good and steady fps.

 

Even low looks beautiful in this game, besides resolution I really can't tell much of a difference between playing it on low/med on my laptop and high/ultra on my desktop. Except for FPS

 

I'm having trouble with my jet hard brake. I used the bf3 config app to bind all of the keys and everything is working fine except hard brake. I have to manually set it before each game. If I close the game and pick a new server, I have to rebind the break. This started with the last patch.

 

I've actually been tinkering with low-ish settings (even though I can comfortably run the game on high with 45+fps) and I don't see much difference in anything unless I stand five inches in front of a wall and stare, but usually I'll be dead in less than three seconds because I came out from cover

It also slightly lowers my GPU temps which is great when the outside temp is ONE HUNDRED DEGREES RAWR! It's too hot

 

Well, the higher graphic settings are really noticeable when using air vehicles on normal presets.

As for the heavy break, it's now an bindable option ingame now. Try using that?
It's in your jet keyboard marked as Heavy Breaks.

 

Yes. I have to change it between each round or it goes away. Maybe there is a conflict between the game and the config app. I'll try deleting the app and rebinding the jet in game.

I'm only in it for the spaz-12 and the mp5k. Until they knee jerk nerf it.

 

That looks good...frankly, it'll be a nice change to have some smaller, faster-paced infantry-focused maps; getting tank-sniped and spawn raped by jets and helicopters gets a little old sometimes. Besides, I don't see why anyone's upset about it; they're not deleting the old maps.

For all of us with Alienware computers, or TactX keyboards/mice, BF3 got AlienFX support in the new patch from today. It flashes red when you are low on health, and flashes blue/orange when you respawn.

 

Do we need to do anything to enable this (Alienware computer) or is it automatic?

It would be nice to get a visual or audio warning when you're low on ammo too. I always get caught with 3 bullets left and need to reload

It's in the patch, nothing to enable. After completing the patch process, it should just work. You are correct though, I'm glad they added in AlienFX support, but I feel like they could have used it for a lot more (different events, warning, etc).

All I see is information about different attachment's pros and cons..

 

I haven't looked fr any patch notes yet. But spread across some the Forums here on NBR, people have been talking about i and confirming the color changes. Most talk has been done in the Alienware section and the M18x section.

 

Anyone using Realmware BF3 settings editor? Do you have an issue with jet hard brake needing rebound after joining servers? I constantly have to delete/rebind that particular key. Very frustrating.

The problem started after the last patch. I don't know if it has anything to do with EA putting the hard brake in the in game settings or not.

 

Most likely it do something with Dice putting heavy break in the game settings.

Also, why are you using heavy break nowadays.
With the significantly improved coin flipping heatseekers and stingers that how seem once in awhile ignore flares make you an easy target to both air and ground.

And when I say coin flipping heatseekers as in they can turn 180 on a dime, can fly in circles around you despite it passed though many chaff burst. Where it decides you get hit or not, once the ecm wears out.

 

I assumed it was due to the patch. I wanted to delete all of the modified files (modified my the editor) but I'm nor sure which they are.

I use the brakes to help get away from dogfights

 

While, I'm not horrible but just half decent pilot.

Here's a jet tip, never use heavy break to break away from dogfights.

All it does either make you an easy kill or get rammed by the tailing pilot.
