Armored Kill DOES look interesting! I wonder if I should spend on BF3 Premium now or just wait for BF4 if it's already being announced!?

Well thanks for the info about Mumble. Does it provide a feature that shows who is actually talking? If it does I might download it. I randomly joined a platoon so I could find some friends and talk with them in BF3 (since there's no in-game voice feature), but I hate not knowing who is talking (they use "Teamspeak 3"). Plus, this whole "platoon" thing isn't really working for me.
Also, I've never used my microphone before. It's extremely odd playing and talking at the same time. Plus, all of my family members think I look like a dork talking to my computer
-
Is anyone else pissed about the ridiculous DLC that costs more than the original game itself?
-
$60 game vs $50 premium?
-
Not really, its ~15 buck each. Unless you been getting BF3 under 10, then I could agree to that
.
Premium doesn't contain a single dlc, it's a price for a bundle of 5 dlcs.

The mumble dx11 overlay is being worked on but as I posted before, information on that and to get it working in also on NBR platoon page.
As for looking like a dork, I used Mumble in a filled lab room. Imaging having 100 people staring at you while you laugh at the computer like a maniac. -
Yeah, and thing about the $70 bf4 is angering me a lot too

I got BF3 for $42, Premium for $50. But for 4 decent expansions, it's worth $50 imho. I think $10-$12 is most any game should charge for each DLC / expansions. It's using the same game engine, same models, maybe add a few more, just primarily level design, something that the community could whip out for free and likely better if given the resources from the dev.

Can i run this guy`s, I have been thinking about buying it for a few months, I only have an HD7670m , my screen resolution is 1366x768 , see sig for full spec.

^ yes you can. it runs just fine on 1366x768. you can also overclock your GPU a bit to gain some more fps. i'd suggest you turn off MSAA and AO (HBAO and SSAO) and try the MEDIUM setting at first. after finding out more about the average performance of your GPU, you could turn some of the options to HIGH.
fyi, i'm running this game on a 6630m (7670m is a rebranded 6650m, so you have a bit more processing power than i do). i've overclocked my GPU from 485MHz/800MHz to 735MHz/933MHz. i've set it to 1440x900, on MEDIUM settings, MSAA and AO off, FXAA on high, and AF on 8x. it gives me about 40fps on average, dropping to about 35fpz on very intense explosions (which i tend to avoid, by the way
), and sometimes even go up to around 50fps. oh, when you install the game, make sure you create a file named
user.cfg in the same folder as bf3.exe and put the following lines in it
it gives you around 7fps to 10fps extra, plus it lets you see your fps on the top-right corner of the screen.
i used to run it on 1366x768 with a mix of MEDIUM and HIGH settings; then i decided i wouldn't mind more resolution, so i put everything on MEDIUM and increased the resolution to 1440x900. -

Excellent post thank-you +REP
EDIT : I hope it works with my driver "Driver Packaging Version 8.932.5.3-120120a-132503C-Toshiba
" , I cannot upgrade to one of the AMD website, I have tried and i loose the brightness control, using the F keys, and after a reboot my screen goes to full brightness.

i'm currently using Catalyst 11.9 (driver version 8.892) which is older than what you have. before this, i used to use Catalyst 11.6 (SONY drivers) which was even older. i think you'll be fine. just give it a go; it's a fantastic game, especially when played with a team for an objective.

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
I bought BF3 for about $45, which included the game and the first expansion pack. I can purchase the subsequent 4 expansion packs for $50 or $15/each. It's slightly egregious.
-
I don't like that you can't buy each DLC individually. I really didnt want and after playing it really dont like close quarters. It feels to COD like because the maps are so small. I really wanted Armored Kill and the new guns you get but I have to buy all of it. I bought BF3 for $30 and it included B2K so premium isnt as good as a deal had it not come with B2K.
-
darxide_sorcerer Notebook Deity
^ yeah, i bought my copy of Battlefield 3 from eBay for $22.50 about a month after its release. it is the North American version of the game (with discs and everything), and was factory sealed and shrink-wrapped. i then bought my B2K DLC for $7.50 from amazon.com when it was on sale for 50% off. so i paid $30 in total for BF3+B2K. i guess i'll wait for the prices to come down before i buy other DLCs. i hope i can buy them individually, since i have absolutely no interest in the CQ DLC and will not spend money on it.

I know the "DrawFps" puts your frames per second in the top right of your screen, but I heard that "WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable" removes the high end light render that give a significant performance hit for very little in visual quality. Is this true? Have you noticed a difference at all in-game?
Unless I wait for Steam to have the game for a ridiculously good price, I won't buy video games unless they come as a package deal. For example, I bought BF3: Limited Edition for $50 (my first PC download - no hard copy). Obviously, that came with Back To Karkand and, as a huge fan of BF2, it felt like a good deal. In terms of Premium, I waited until they announced I could get Dead Space 1 for free with my purchase. Now Premium alone for $50, in my opinion, is not worth it. $50 gets you a brand new video game, not a few new maps and weapons for the game you have in front of you. I dislike Close Quarters on the whole: the weapons aren't all that spectacular, the "HD Destruction" wasn't all that impressive, and it didn't add much to BF3, overall. Armored Kill should turn that around, but I'm still worried about the last 2 DLC.
Falco, I can only imagine
Tinderbox, nice pic ya got there  -
i use the worldrender.dxdeff....... thing so i can run my game at 90hz, since i run my screen at 90hz, its really fluid for flying and stuff.
-
Yeah it's something I think players should protest. It's getting ridiculous.

Do you guys use ECM, flares or extinguisher? I just unlocked ECM, but I think I like the extinguisher better. Being a not so good pilot, I like being able to put out fires caused by bullets as well as missiles.
-
Unless you run the game in DirectX 10 you need a Mumble build that works with DirectX 11.
I will link it here when i get home but i think its posted on the platoon wall.

Edit: True to my word here is the link for the special DirectX 11 build of Mumble.

haven't noticed a difference. afaik, that light rendered was designed and optimized for the single-player campaign and multi-player maps with many small light sources (like Operation Metro or Tehran Highway). with big maps with the sun as the main (and probably only) giant light source, that rendered is just a burden on the engine.
actually, this article has interviews with AMD and DICE engineers and developes about their light rendering engine. here is the quote i found most interesting:
-
this is true on metro it actually drops fps, whereas in nearly every other map it increases fps. i wonder if you could write a script to enable/disable that feature based on the map.
-
DirtyTrickster Notebook Evangelist
Is there a bug with the ECM jammer? When using it in jets I have a 10% chance of it actually firing when in the air. I have it mapped to two keys, one on keyboard and one on mouse. Neither will fire.
The HUD states " ECM ready" but as I pound on the keys...nothing.
So frustrating. -
Likewise... Very frustrating!
-
DirtyTrickster Notebook Evangelist
Ok good. So it's not just operator error. -
It's a known bug in normal mode since launch.
Lag and switching between 1st and 3rd often breaks the HUD ready indicator on all perk using the countermeasure key.
So you pretty much have to rely on audio or other visual que.
Another bug that can do that is a hardware issue with poor quality keyboards and pressing too many keys at once. -
DirtyTrickster Notebook Evangelist
If it were a hardware issue, wouldn't I see the problem with flares and extinguisher?
So there is no real fix? I can't control lag, and I do flip back and forth between first and third quite often. -
With flares and extinguisher, it just unlikely to trigger though it is possible if you treat them like using ECM.
I'm very happy of your progess ^^ -
DirtyTrickster Notebook Evangelist
Thanks man. I'm using your tips.
I'm still having trouble killing other pilots. I get a lot of disabled jets, but finishing them off is another story. My cross hairs are still very shaky. -
You'll get the hang of it eventually. First 60 hours into online gameplay, I never even imagined using the jets.. It seemed impossible for me! Now I've completed the jet tour of duty twice. It's just a matter of getting comfortable with it, like sniping.
-
Anyone know of a deal for premium?
-
I'd love the same! But I doubt there's anything being offered for Premium now...
-

Just bought the game on dvd, busy installing it, it want s to do an update it`s 5.1gb , I hope i can find the update file when it`s finished as i don't want to have to download such a big file at every re-install.
John. -
Just backup the BF3 folder in the Origin Games folder. It will be fully patched. Just put it back in the same spot after a reformat or whatever, click install from the origin menu, and it will show as if it's downloading but it's really just checking all the files on the drive.
-
I tried that once.. didn't work. Origin downloaded the whole content all over again!

Once the update starts to install, i am going to run taskmanger and then open the file location and copy the update file if possible to another location.

They do ruin the game. Are you using FRAPS to record? I was trying to read what you were typing, and I thought it said : I have Fraps running" or something along those lines. If so, how do you record for more than 30 seconds? -
use msi afterburner to record, its really good.
-
I take it recording also results in a considerable drop in performance? Never tried it myself...
-
DirtyTrickster Notebook Evangelist
Wasn't aware Msi afterburner did video recording. Thank for that! -
Nope nearly any drop
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2 -
Yes FRAPS. You can select 720p and full screen and see it all. Basically yeah I was saying I was recording and reporting. Maybe the trial version is only 30 seconds, I don't know, I've had the registered version for many years.
I've had mixed results. MSI tends to crash games, and for whatever reason DICE games are suscpetible.
With FRAPS and most other recording, it limits the FPS to the recording speed. If you set it to 60 FPS though, and FPS drops below that it will record at 30FPS as will your framerate drop. -
The trial version of fraps only adds a watermark, there isn't a limit how long to record but depends on space.
The performance drop depends on the write capability of the HDD. Usually most people workaround by using a drive that is not in use (a purely data drive) or use a second computer to record.
Fraps records in raw data example recording in 1920x1080 bytes per frame -
I usually record at "half size" of the screen to greatly reduce file size, but it does fill up quickly.
-
I don't even know why EA is calling this game "Battlefield" if it has nothing to do with its predecessors. This whole game is extremly infantry-based while BF1942/Vietnam/... have been vehicle-based.
-
just wait for armored kill
-
DirtyTrickster Notebook Evangelist
Anyone up for some jet practice tonight?
-
I don't see why not. It essentially follows up from Battlefield 2, not it's offshoots like Vietnam, BF1942 or BFBC2.
Which server?
