Uh. Battlefield has always had "centralized" dedicated servers provided by several major server providers, at least since BF2. You can run your own private servers but they will be unranked. This is a good thing. This way people can't modify the game on their server, only alter the rules. Consistency in game servers has always been a Battlefield trademark.

BF2 had private ranked servers, centralized servers started with BC2.

I don't get it. You still rent them from a server provider, what's the difference? -
If i call this game overrated will I get flamed?
-
Yeah you will, unless you provide me a good reason for why is it overrated??

Additional multiplayer footage if you didn't catch it from the live stream: YouTube - Battlefield 3 - MultiPlayer gameplay E3 7-8 June Broadcasted by UStream.tv‏
Edit: just ignore the host... -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Yes.
Are those ex-Infinity Ward guys from Respawn Entertainment? LMAO. They're super into the game and the host is bothering them, never bother a PC gamer while gaming!
DICE = The masters of PC FPS gaming. -
hahaha yea, I thought that was funny too! I hope IW was raging hard. But yea, the hosts for that segment were just brutal and they kept replaying the same trailers we've been seeing for months. Atleast we got to see some actual multiplayer footage though.
I'm putting my money on that Metro map being the one released for the BETA. Funny as how it's an OPEN BETA now, I feel bad for everyone that bought MoH simply for special access to the BETA. -
Wow watching those videos i just cannot wait for the game.
Wonder what those Respawn guys were thinking, they too are getting funding from EA now. Will be interesting to see what they do for their first game. -
I feel that we, MoH LE owners, will get it earlier than the open beta. Perhaps in August? Look at MoH beta : it was who pre ordered first, then it was the open for everyone.
-
I bet they were counting on more sales of MoH and felt it wasn't enough so they decided on an open beta. Sounds good to me I still wanted to pick up MoH to play through the story but my better judgement tells me other wise. Im glad BF3 looks like it plays slightly quicker then BC2, its like playing in cement shoes!
-
Honestly, I like MoH. It's a solid game, and definitely one of the best campaigns of any FPS in recent years.
-
This. One of the drawbacks of MoH is the MP. The SP is, IMO, one of THE best I have EVER played.
-
You guys suck. I hope steam has a sale now damnit, thanks alot
.
-
True MoH single player was awesome. Especially love the US army Ranger invasion stage in which the unit gets trapped and hell rains down on them. I almost thought the unit was gonna be abandoned and killed. And the ending was epic IMO. People keep saying Black Ops had a great story but I feel MoH had a much better story, it was much more emotionally engaging.
-
Shadowfate Wala pa rin ako maisip e.
I agree with MOH. One of the most emotional storyline I have ever played.
Nearly made me cry when the team was stuck with only a few bullets left. -
Because it is fps #589 with pretty graphics?
-
With pretty graphics a next gen engine with destructible environments, unlimited possible light sources in a single room, almost real like character animations(look at the way characters die, or move or even change stance). An excellent and balanced multiplayer with support for upto 64 player epic battles on large maps. Hmmm come think of it, all of this does sound overrated.
-
Exactly. Its just another fps with pretty pixels.
-
You can always go back to Catacomb 3D. Not so sure about pretty pixels, but at least it's authentic. And I'll wait for release to decide if this game "just another fps".
-
I was being ironic. If you do read the post i have explained why it is not just another FPS. I mean EPIC scale multiplayer with 64 players and destructible environments, awesome class system, a gameplay where team work is actually required so that it is not just run and gun, how is that overrated.

I won't pay $60 for a game with a decent singleplayer campaign, multiplayer has to be a huge part of it as well.
-
Exactly, This will be multiplayer game with a single player add on wouldn't have been missed if it were not included
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Battlefield has ALWAYS been about the multiplayer experience. Single player might be a nice addition so that players can practice before they hit the real Battlefield, which is the MP Conquest game mode with 64-players and land, sea, air vehicles.

Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
I just can't wait till I get to fly some jets!
-
I'm still skeptical. Is it me, or does everything about the gameplay sounds like BC2? No commander, 4 man squads, can spawn on any squadmate, 4 kits... BF2 style squad tactics are not looking too promising.
-
+2
I could careless really about MP, I just flew through bc2 and was like; "eh that was nice" decent story plot. I think for me, it's just moreover of "just getting through it" - just because; paid for the game.. might as well just play it through and see how it is. However, I don't get too critical on it. What's more important is getting to the MP and start working on the guns/ranks/etcetc -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
I know the 4 kits thing, but has the rest been confirmed? I see why you would be skeptical, so would I if this were the case... -
I'm almost positive those were confirmed. No commander is confirmed, 4 kits were confirmed, 4 man squads were confirmed, and I remember reading/seeing somewhere about being able to spawn on any squad mate or having the squad leader role dynamically changed through a match. With so many articles/independent reviews coming out, it's hard to keep track of where I read this stuff.

Battlefield 3 to have 3x more DLC than Bad Company 2
Planet Battlefield - Maps, News, Battlefield 3, Videos, Downloads -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
As long as the DLC is good and brings enough content to make it worth the money, I don't mind.
-
But according to that little blurb, 3 times the amount of DLC as compared to BFBC2 would mean 21 DLC packs?!? Let's say the DLC sells at approx $3/pack (minimum), you end up having to pay an extra $63? That's a whole other game!
-
7 DLCs ( except Vietnam and onslaught ) = 7 VIP map packs = free. Don't worry, EA ain't Activision
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Well, I'd gladly play for $63 worth of content if it were in fact, a whole new game!
I doubt DICE will do something that stupid though. -
Those VIP Packs were pretty decent, I just hope they fix the multiplayer interface, its a pain to navigate, of course I have the console version and its near impossible to get into a game with friends, plays ea fix that. Ill be buying this one on steam so we will see how it turns out.
-
Yea playing on the console is your issue there with the interface. I don't see why they have to fix it since you are getting the pc version now.
-
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
I wonder if they will fix the if someone is playing on the PS3/XBOX360 and PC at the same time. No on will get kicked! So annoying right now can only play Bad company 2 when my roomate is not here. He has the PS3 and when he plays I can't play on my PC.
-
Thats bizaar, I wonder what that is that makes you unable to play at the same time? Also with the interface ya im not sure how the pc interface is or how well it works with steam but I guess I'll find out
, im glad I got this lappy now with some great games coming out this year.
-
I wonder if this demographic will hold true when the game is released... thinking about it now, BC2 really doesn't have many kids playing it!
(at bottom of pic)
-
It's because you have two people on the same IP playing online. happens all the time with games.
-
You're assuming that every single DLC will cost money, which, knowing DICE, probably won't be the case.
For BFBC2 we got all of the map packs for free, and there were a bunch of those. The only things that cost money were the SPECACT kits (which were just reskins of weapons already available to everyone, you were not at any disadvantage if you didn't buy it), and the Vietnam expansion (which gave you new maps in a completely different time period, new vehicles, weapons, dialogue and music). -
I didn't know that they were using one ID, I was assuming other wise or I would have replied with what you replied to me with.
-
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Not using the same id the same ip, zbut is ok for 4 computers to play online together on the same ip it is stupid that I can't play when my roomate plays on the ps3. That is a drm issue with the consoles nothing more nothing less and is just bs. -
Looks like they will be selling upgraded weapons as DLC.
Battlefield 3 Limited Edition: Physical Warfare Pack Available Exclusively For Pre-Order
"Players can storm the battlefield armed with powerful weapons and items only available in the Physical Warfare Pack including the Type 88 light machine gun with bipod for superior firepower and total zone control, the SKS sniper rifle flash suppressor that provides increased stealth abilities for Recon soldiers, and the lethal armour-piercing flechette ammo for the DAO-12 semi-automatic shotgun that is sure to tear through anything in its path."
Also note that there is a difference between Day-1 access to weapons (DAO-12) through pre-ordering, and exclusive map pack weapons (Type-88). I wonder if this will actually play out; most of the comments I've read on different forums are negative, extremely negative. -
This is BS. I want to play this game so bad, but DLC that gives you an ingame advantage?! B-Frikin'-S.
-
Re-posting the exact same thing I said in the other thread on this.
You know how this is going to affect game balance?
It won't.
The M1 Garand was an exclusive to BFBC2 Veteran players, otherwise there's no way to get it in-game...and it doesn't change anything. It's a decent rifle, but people who don't have it really aren't missing anything. I guarantee you this isn't going to be anything game-changing either. It'll probably reduce firing noise at the cost of damage or something like that.
Not to mention suppressors really don't mean anything in Battlefield games anyway. You can still hear them a mile away, and they don't prevent you from showing up on radar like in Call of Duty. Let's not forget that all Engineer SMG's and carbines were suppressed in BFBC2, and a few sniper rifles as well. -
Hmm dice said that Sniper muzzle flash would be visible to decrease the stealthiness of Snipers and with this you get a flash suppressor I say that is a pretty big advantage, seems unlike DICE
-
The flash suppressor description states "The essential weapon mod for teamplay Recons at the front." I'm just speculating, but this mod might be limited to mid range sniper rifles like Dragunovs as opposed to long range rifles like the M95 or M24.
-
It's specifically for the SKS.
-
Whoops! missed that part.
Definitely not bad then since the SKS doesn't seem to be a long range sniper rifle.
-
I hope they release the M1 Garand again...I actually loved that weapon
. And I'd really like to see the medic mechanics in this game
