Out of all the download services to reject, it had to be Steam. Doesn't EA know like 100+ Million people around the world use to Steam to buy games and so much more?

Hey guys,

I'm curious as to how well BF3 is going to run on my laptop (spec's in sig). Somehow I don't think it's going to run that well. If you guys agree, I might look at upgrading sometime before it comes out.

I would try Bad Company 2 and use that as a gauge for how well Battlefield 3 will run on your machine.

BC2 doesn't run bad at all. I'm not too sure that BF3 is going to have similar spec requirements...

No, but I'm sure it won't be a whole lot more stringent otherwise they'd isolate a huge amount of the fan base. My M11x R1 can handle Bad Company 2 on a dual core ULV CPU and GT 335m, barely. My biggest concern with BF3 would be CPU over GPU anyhow, especially on 64-player maps.

I hope the net-code is more optimized than 2142. I remember 64 player titan servers. The second they moved the titan, it was like the entire earth skipped a beat, lol.

Yeah. I was never too keen on 2142. The mechs had like no armor, titan battles were just nade-fests, and iirc you could only run like three seconds before tiring out. I liked the idea but it just wasn't implemented very well. Wonder if there's still a decent amount of servers playing.

I bought it, but I didn't pre-order so no early beta for me.

Unlike pretty much everyone else in the world, I enjoyed MoH. :p It was a great single-player campaign; one of the best as far as military shooters go, I would even say. Multiplayer left a little something to be desired, but overall, it was hardly the 0/10 disaster that most people seem to have such deep-seated hatred for.

I agree with everything you said. The campaign is probably THE best I've ever played. Danger Close did a great job. Hurray for Medal of Honor 2010 sequel! :D It'll only be developed by Danger Close, both SP and MP. Here's hoping it's NOT UE 3.97, rather the UE 3.5 :p

In steam it doesn't say. The only way to know if it is or isn't is by launching SP, it'll say a special code for you to activate in MP.

Yeah, start the game, open Steam in-game overlay, click on "CD Key", then you will see what kind of key you have -- Standard or Limited.

(Mine is Standard.... only paid $10... oh well)

Wow... Doesn't seem to be THAT hard to run in DX10 IMO... DX11 might push it due to terrain tesselation & disppacement mapping, but I think we ( mid-range users ) will be okay at 1080p with medium-high or 768p/720p with couple of settings on high.

Huge amount of shadows and SSAO in this game. If this is Alpha testing this is going to be amazing sound effects are so much better.

@ Cheesy BC2 was already an amazing game why change it? Just improve on it by changing all the textures, weapons, sound and adding new features and effects and it makes it a perfect game. The campaign is bound to be different but it appears they haven't failed IMO like Black Ops did for me by changing something that isn't broken.

BC3 over MW3 for me! :D

NOOOO! BC2 is NOT amazing. Bring back classic BF2 gameplay. This is not BFBC3, it's Battlefield 3. Offer a command wheel to call for medic, support, request for supplies, etc. Give us a commander. Give us PRONE and actually let us hide behind a rock, not only able to kneel so our noggin is exposed, but prone or better yet, a way to seek cover behind objects a la Gears of War. Add lean PLEASE.

But most importantly, CONCENTRATE on NET CODE! That's what kills BFBC2 for me. Plus we need jets and boats. Shoulder mounted Stinger missiles. Ability to change kits at a supply crate dropped by the commander.

-> Launch game
-> Go to Graphics settings
-> Put "Low" in Effects and Shadows and disable SSAO and "Very high" in textures and objects
-> Find game
-> Press Enter
-> Look at map
-> Shift + W
-> Get in Jet
-> W+M1 FTW :D

Shadows and SSAO will kill the game for me in terms of performance. If I disable them, I might pull some nice frames at 1080p.

Oh how i love Battlefield 2.
Dice better not dumb down BF3, its really hard to actually communicate ingame on BC2 with fellow team / squad.
Also sad to see how high ping the servers have.
A CS:S server from Norway usually gives me under 20 ping while BC2 gives me 80 ping and horrid hitbox.
Vietnam dlc fixed the hitbox.

Vietnam runs smoother in general but I still get hitbox issues. Judging from the graphics in the BF3 alpha I hope requirements aren't any more than BFBC2 because I don't see anything to justify it, at least visually.

Right. There are definitely good things about BFBC2, but let's hope they don't just expand on that instead of taking BF2 and expanding on that with the best parts of BFBC2 which would be persistent supply and medic packs instead of consumable ones. Ability to spawn on anyone in your squad instead of only the leader. Destructible environments (love that, and clearly it remains in BF3). Among many others.

Firstly there are jets, prone, etc in BF3.

And you don't see that BF3 graphics are improved? I just am not sure what to say to that.

There were very few good commanders in BF2. Most just spammer arty/cars/crates and camped for jets on the ship.

Graphics aren't much improved over BFBC2. Definitely over BF2.

there is jets in BF3 They showed some at the end of a trailer.

‪Battlefield 3 - "My Life" Trailer (Actual Game Footage)‬‏ - YouTube

1:20 seconds that is some jet flying going on there.

In the trailer where the guy is shooting the Rocket at the Sniper he was prone then got up.

Calm down guy.
