Battlefield 3 Discussion Thread

I frequently have one of the lowest pings and it doesn't matter. It jumps around. I find if sometimes I switch weapons it improves a bit for a little while. Heck I wish I was running fraps, because I had an RPG go straight through a tank once. I mean I could see it sail right through the middle of it. I was like

And then I got the drop on a scout class, a grenade, full magazine, and an RPG but kept on coming. They popped me with a couple handgun rounds and I was down. It showed their health as 80%. Again

 

If that is the case (which it is), Battlefield 2 is still too mainstream for my case. It was not bad but it wasn't good either. On the other hand Joint Operation was so much funner and better than Battlefield 2. Even Black Hawk Down multiplayer, sometime u don't go on a shooting spree like COD, you stick with your squad, and you watch all site (kind of like U.S marine) and it funny when someone try to go behind to kill you, you got each other back. Sometime it not even about shooting, it having people online (who you don't know) but share the same optimism and teamwork you have and it a joy to work with all of them. These people are people who know how to play a game and know what team game is all about not just some COD crap. Battlefield 2 is kind of like that, but not as much team work as Delta and Joint Ops game. I am as old school a shooter as they come. Right now BF3 look like (metro gameplay) that in the close proximity as COD.

Remember it was the first Delta Force and Counter Strike that really started first person shooting game.

Just got an invite for BF3 Alpha and been playing a litte of it.
Works great and really smooth with Medium settings at 1920x1080.

What i enjoy most is the sound effects.
Trowing grenades just to hear them explode.

 

Guys can anyone tell me why my screen goes all black when i try to install the nvidia driver?
EDIT: it seems as it installed fine, but i cant play the game with this HORRIBLE internet i have : / In a few days ill be home where i have good internet and then ill be able to give the game a real test!

 

Why medium settings? Is the HD 6970M not able to handle it any higher with smooth gameplay?

 

I am for stable 60fps.
Of course i can try to set it higher but for multiplayer games i take performance over visuals.

 

I have a question where did you find the settings meny
for me it just starts a firefox page then like a popup window i cant get to become a proper full screen

 

to make it full screen you have to click alt+enter. And the options are there when you click escape!

What is your system?

 

So far we've been seeing a lot of gameplay on the Paris Metro map but I would like to see what other kinds of environments we will get with BF3. Hopefully there will some more expansive maps with a focus on vehicular warfare. I really want to see jet and helicopter gameplay.

 

Ok to answer ALyH and make some notes.

1) Im getting around 25-30 frames on medium (IMPORTANT!!! IT RUNS LIKE BUTTER EVEN WITH THAT FPS!!!!!!) And around 20-22 on high(Still runs like butter) so on my old GPU it still runs good!
2) Yes the APC´s can run over fences and lamposts and such!
3) the hit registration seems good! though i can tell for sure with my terrible dial up!
4) i think there is an in game voice service but i havent used it!
5) Some parts of the map are not destructible, but i think its a bit mixed. i havent seen too much of it! So ill play some more and report back on that!
6) And im quite certain that its around 4-6 people and there are 1 guy in the main canon 1 guy on a turret on the top and then 2 guys on the side. Then im not sure if you can be 2 passengers...
7) Its more of its own mix of modern FPS and old school FPS!
ok now some notes.
You can see a big reflection in the enemies sniper scope when he scopes in!
There is a Real time reflection in you´re sniper scope when you run around!
The recoil is realistic! It is not 0% but its not exadurated like most fps tends to make it like. So close up it might be some what easy to spray but in the distance you really have to do it in bursts!
The game looks BEAUTIFUL! Its simply amazing! The animations are fantastic and really realistic! And the gameplay is really fun! Its also good to see that they have made the m16 after the actual assault rifle they use in the current military and not the one in BFBC2... If you have any other questions, with the help if DEagleson i would love to answer them!

 

I noticed in a video back a few pages that the guy had a Dragunov, are there any differences between the weapons in the same class (dragunov is comparable to the gol magnum) or is it just reskinned/resounded?

The game is under NDA agreement so i cant really post images or upload videos, but i can say that even on the "Low" preset the game looks awesome.

The settings, is only Low, Medium, High and Auto. As of right now you cant choose custom settings. But as deagle says there is not a very big difference between the settings.
And to answer the sniper question, since i have this terrible internet (dial up) i havent really tried the snipers since i see no use whit this high ping. But Deagleson has told be that the Dragunov isent very good, which is a pitty since it almost never is in any game : /

 

I will be playing the game on my desktop at 1920x1200 with the following specs:

i7 920 @ 4GHz
6GB DDR3 @ 1600MHz
Radeon 5870 1Gb @ 850/1200 (might upgrade)

 

Watching the videos it seems like reloading is way too fast...especially the RPG. Looks comical. Very CoDish. Thoughts?

hi i dont think its realy working the grafics setting since on high and medium i almost get the same fps only about 2to 3 fps dif same as if i overclock the most of the time within 32 to 48 fps i ran a a Oc with 125mhz on the GPU's and im running sli 485m and there was no dif in fps from standard and also do you have a qlue how to aply the thicker barrel and the front grip i got it but i cant get it in me customize menu

Or they just targeted the high end Rigs, and just tweaked each setting just a little?

 

So far nothing I have read so far excited me. I need you to be honest man give us a rating from 1 to 10, and do you think I would like it? I didn't like bad company 2 and wasn't a fan of battlefield 2. I love battlefield 1942, counter strike 1.6, and Delta Force 2, Black Hawk Down, Both Joint Operation and ARMA II. I'm as old school a shooter as it get. Thanks

Man i was hoping for some old school shooting mechanic, but EA/Dice and Activation don't know how to make a good shooting game if it hit them in the face. The aim down sight in modern game suck.

 

thats most prob since what ever i do i dont get the fps up and im talking im gettin over 33000 points in vantage with oc and org is 26k to 27k and no dif in the game with or with out oc it must be so all alfas get the same experiance
but im getting right killing mach whit the game since it keep on frezing on me all the time and ive turned of anti v and every thing i can think of ad it runs as admin ever where its killing my exp

if you did like any of those then you wont like this but m8 give it a try you might like it who know its realistick contrary to allot you played before how old are you if i may aske

Joint Operations was far from being realistic but it did have those huge maps with 150-players on one server going for them...Twin Islands or Straits of Malaga anyone???!

 

they are now running a small map to airon out phyxc props i think

 

@Cheesy the game is defenetly worth a try! I would not be able to rate how you like the game. How a person likes something is completely different from 1 guy to another. Though i must say that you should try it out at the open or closed beta and see how you like it!

 

I'm 22, first favorite (not a fan of 007 goldeneye sorry), fps game were the old ghost recon and DF 2, spent 3 good years on black hawk down, part of the UFS clan. Spent 3 years playing Joint Operation until hacker came in and Novalogic no longer supporting their games. Play DFX 2 but once again hacker came in. Spent 5 years playing counter strike, spent the last 2 years playing counter strike source until the recent patch which makes me hate valve so much. cgf files won't save, no more playing css for me. I forgot to mention, huge rainbow six Vegas fan, and even all the new ghost recon games. Also Socom games are my favorite shooting game on console hands down.

Realistic in term of the setting and lighting. Battlefield 3 doesn't look realistic (look not play), it too bright and too much light source on the soldier outfit. The environment look fake, like something out of a cartoon.

I will be buying it and playing it. But it is not a true Battlefield 3 sequel. It seem like EA is afraid MW3 will win so they added a lot of MW3 element to it that it no longer a true battlefield game. I swear I feel like as an old school hardcore gamer, I think fps games on the PC are dying.

 

i just need to say im 33 i played all the orange games and allso bf2 bfc2 and iwe tryed this one and it f..... you up becouse you want more and more brutall and it becoums more when it dont frezee up but this is the alpha but i would say buy it

 

Hers a good question; does each side have their own unique weapons (US = M16A4, M4A1, SMAW, M9 Beretta, etc and Russia = AK's, RPG-7's, MP-443, etc) or they all have access to the same exact layout much like the Bad Company series?

Ah - so each team has stock weapons that are different to each other, but unlocks are universal for both teams (like battlefield 2?)

BTW mate when you say it plays well @ 30 fps or so, what do you mean - as in not jerky, doesn't feel like 30fps?

 

To Answer you´re question, Yes each team has stock weapons. For example, The US marines have an M16 in the assault class while the OpFor has an AK74M i think it is, and so on.. And i play the game at around 25-30fps normally and that feels like butter! So even though the fps isent that high it still runs very well.

 

But isn't the GTX 260M a DirectX10 card? Maybe you're not running the game at its full potential with the added DirectX11 enhancements and slow downs.

 

Yes it is a DX10 card. But i still think that its the overall thing with BF3, even though it might not have a lot of FPS but it still runs very smooth!

 

i have Dx 11 cards and still no twitching running realy smoth with low fps but like i said what ever i do i cant get the fps up high i even tried high oc for gaming (that i can run for days with no issues) that norm would give me around 160fps to 200fps with maxed out setting in Bc2 and even higher in MoH but still same fps as at stock and there is only 3 to 4 fps dif betven medium and high

 

BF3 is still in limited alpha.
I have felt invisible walls, seen a tank getting stuck inside a tree ect.

Probably needs some more fine tuning to get the engine to exploit the power of the different cards, and for Nvidia and AMD to cheat in their driver suite. ;3

 

the best one ive seen is the tank does two back flips about 20 meters up in the air and it was no explosions
