Yeah I'm ticked that it's not coming to Steam, 99% of the games I play are from Steam

This is referring to Bad Company 2, but has anyone successfully used a joystick or joystick and throttle? I used to use my trusty old Sidewinder twist stick. I finally decided to give chopper combat a go with it, but it doesn't recognize my HAT switch or my throttle switch even though it shows up just fine in Windows game controller settings and works in other games.
I hope this is fixed in BF3 because I plan on flying a lot. I did a lot in BF2 as well. Just for whatever reason decided not to in BC2. -
From my GamesCom thread :
- Amazing SP campaign with the help of an ex-SAS soldier.
- Co-op is going to be shown now!
- LIVE co-op PS3 demo now!
- Triangle spotting in co-op
No comma rose meanwhile
- Graphics seems nice on the PS3. Animations are pretty nice.
- Co-op is pretty well done, it's campaign mission (?) on a co-op mode.
- Infra-red scopes are here.
- There is a revive system.
- Textures are not as good ( obviously ) as on the PC. Pretty so-so.
- Co-op mode seems very fun!
- Apparently, BF3 will be launched through a browser
- Cologne people will be able to experience conquest with jets with 64 players on PC
I WANT TO BE THERE
- Map is HUGE! Lots and lots of vehicles, choppers, jets, tanks, quads
THERE WERE LIKE 4 OR 5 JETS ON AIR!
- There were at least 5 of every vehicle available ( 5 tanks, 5 quads, 5 cars and humvees... I don't know the exact count, but there were LOADS ! ) in the map in each team! -

this game looks awesome
but how did the alpha run? do you think i will be able to play with a 5650 at 1366x768? -
I was just about to post this
Can you run Crysis at that resolution? I heard the Alpha didn't have all the bells and whistles of the full game, but that people with 5770's and 6850's were able to run it quite well.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
I lmao'd so hard at 1:33
That, as I said, looks gorgeously amazing! So many vehicles! So much action! So much awesomness!

I wonder if they officially support TrackIR cause that would be awesome.

Once I saw no one posted it yet I posted it quickly. -
WOO HOO! That looks PHENOMENAL!
TrackIR support would be great too. Can't wait to get in those jets. -
So excited for this, the air warfare is one of the big things I had been looking forward to about this game. Can't wait to order my Sager laptop in a couple weeks!

Wow, incredible. This will most likely be the first game I buy at full price... I'm really looking forward to it. It will be my only non-Steam game too. Doesn't matter, it looks awesome.
Thanks for the video. -
The command rose is basically a communications menu. In BFBC2, when you hit your spot button (default Q), depending on what you're looking at, you will automatically say something. If you're looking at an enemy, you'll put a marker on them and say you spotted an enemy. If you're looking at a friendly medic, you'll ask for health. If you look at a friendly Assault, you'll ask for ammo. If you are a medic and look at a wounded teammate, you'll tell them you have aid, etc. etc.
In BF2, when you hold Q, instead of being automated, it brings up a small menu that lets you select from a bunch of different dialog options, including spotting, calling for a medic, thanking teammates, apologizing, and so on.
Personally, I liked the fact that it was automated in BFBC2 (i.e. just hitting the button would make you say something appropriate based on what you're looking at), but still, the option to say thanks without having to type it into chat is nice.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -

Ohhh reminds me of Ghost recon. Yup a nice feature to have -
Well nice thing is you don't have to hunt down a medic or support guy you can just call for medic or ammo, and they can find you or you can find them. Plus saying, thank you, sorry, or affirmative is always nice to have.
-
This is GREAT!
Also, to those who wanted the stinger, check 1:09
Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
I wanted a shoulder mounted stinger.
-
Just don't crash them or people will rage at you
I need to be a bit quicker then
-
Wonder if there is gonna be the same stupid thing like in all BF games, that 5-6 players will camp at helicopter or jet spawn point so they could "fly" it...
and by "fly" I mean crashing in the ground a few miles away. -
Hopefully there will be more than just 3-4 air vehicles per side on the maps.
-
What annoys me the most is the bots do it too. As soon as you spawn in, the bots go beelining for the nearest helicopter or jet and then fly it in a circle and nosedive into a hill.
-
...
...
woops
Anyway, I would find this game a 1000/100 if we had like 16 jets per team
-
I wish there was a like button for this. What I would love to see in BF3 is a jet-only map. Could you imagine how much fun that could be? 32 aircraft in the sky, probably with a nice mountain range to fly through, obstacles, cliffs, crags, pipes to fly through etc.
-
Oh that was great! That the kind of BF video I can get hyped to. I hope that's not the only jet in the game. Didn't look like an F-35B
Also noticed that magazine icon next to the engineer's name, maybe that's the indicator to let other squadmates know you're low on ammo?Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
Most likely that person called for ammo using the comma rose.
-
Are there confirmed bots in BF3?
I remember absolutely epic times lanning with 5 other guys taking on like 32 bots in 1942 + desert combat
-
Good joystick for bf3 flying ?
Something not high end so my fiance won't kick my behind for spendin too much
-
I've always liked Saitek controllers. Their pro flight sticks harken back to the days of Thrustmaster and range from pricey ($100) to obscene ($400), but the lower end models have always been very good and are more affordable, about $50.
-
I own a X52 Pro which is VERY good! But cost me 180.
-
You don't need a full HOTAS for BF3. Just a twist stick with throttle will do.
-
I believe a Cyborg would fit the bill nicely.

BF2 never had more than 3-4 air vehicles for map and it was just fine. For 64-players and the map sizes we will have in BF3 3-4 air vehicles per team will be fine, otherwise it would just be overkill.
Anyways, the trailer looked very promising but it still looks really similar to BC2 in terms of look and feel. Hopefully though they will be very different once we get our hands on it. -
I am probably the only one here that thinks this, but I am going to ask anyway. Does anyone else think that their is just too much 'stuff' going on in that gameplay? I mean it seems almost overwhelming with planes, trains and automobiles. This really might not be a game for me -- love CS1.6, CSS, COD4. I guess the thing is, when I play a First-person-shooter I don't to fight a tank or chopper, I want to fight a person shooting at me with a gun, not a cannon from a battleship.
Also I have never played BF series, only Bad Company 2.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
If you've never played or seen the BF series then yeah it will look confusing or intimidating at first. A lot of the trailers really focus on the vehicles because that is what helps separate the BF series from CoD and other traditional fps... BF is more like first person warfare. You've got a lot of options and tactics beyond run and gun. Don't be fooled by the trailers though, the majority of the game relies on you being on foot like any other fps, especially for smaller maps like paris.

Personally I have no problems dealing with Tanks and Helis in BC2. I am a Infantry Type player.
I do love the feeling of killing/destroying/shooting down vehicles
EDIT:
Just found this comparison of people playing
BF3
MW3
If only sales will follow suite as well. Maybe MW4 will have a new engine and be balanced. -
Welcome to Battlefield!
That's what it's all about, and why it's called "Battlefield". At least BF2 did a great job of encompassing vehicles and infantry on a single battlefield. I love it. You learn to concentrate on one objective and it's not too bad. People that try to fight all the fights lose badly. Plus you will see a lot of air-to-air stuff going on just trying to scare off the other jets and choppers from doing some ground pounding against your troops.
-
Ooooh, hahahaha! I think this is a good sign towards good sales of BF3. Finally it's getting the recon it deserves, and people are understanding that MW3 is just a rehash, and that BF3 is a completely NEW, AMAZING game. I'll DEFINATELY buy BF3, and MAYBE MW3.
-
I'm so psyched about Battlefield 3. I've never played a Battlefield game in my life. Hahaha. If you see a stupid noob trying to pilot a jet fighter that'll be me!
I'm going to buy BF3 first (since it comes out first), and if I don't enjoy it I'll just sell it and try out MW3. Try both out heh. -
Keep out of the jets
Just kidding. But seriously. -
People really need to learn to use empty servers to practice vehicle handling. I'm so sick of people hogging my team's helicopter in BFBC2, only to do a backflip upon takeoff and instantly kill everyone inside.
-
I guess I'm the opposite. I love destroying and driving vehicles. First thing I platinum'd in BC2 were the tanks.
Shouldn't need to hop on an empty server. Even lousy Homefront provided a sandbox map to muck around in. -
That always makes me laugh, one wrong twitch of the mouse and you'll have it strafing to the wall.
They need to bring back the big vehicles, like submarines and air carriers you can actually drive. -
That would require a huge amount of time spent on the maps to create all that. They'll never do that.
Unless they give us mod tools and we get ourselves a map as big as Palm de Mallorca with bunch of subs, jets, planes, etc.
-
They have done something similar to that in 1942. The maps were actually pretty big I remember a map in the Philippine Isles and you could actually man a submarine and go as far as beaching it to the shores. It was amazing what DICE did with the PC Hardware back then.

The variety in gameplay is what makes Battlefield. You have so many options and choices when it comes to playing. You can be infantry and take on one of their roles, medic, support, anti-tank, sniper, etc. or you can grab a vehicle and wreck havoc, sneak behind enemy lines, provide support. The chaotic multi-dimensional warfare that Battlefield provides is truly astounding and it what keeps people coming back for more.
It's not just run & gun, insta-headshot, reflex FPS. It requires more thinking, strategy and skill. At the same time, it provides you with so many more options with regards to how you play. In COD you basically get a gun and run around killing people, in BF3, there's actually more to the game than just that and it is far more satisfying in the end.
Nothing like seeing infantry, tanks, and helicopters all converging on a capture point in one massive assault with crap flying everywhere and tons going on. It's so epic. That's the whole point of Battlefield. Epicness. COD is not epic. Battlefield is EPIC. It strives to create that overwhelming feeling of accomplishment, satisfaction and pride when you win, as a team.
Battlefield gives you the feeling that there is a living, breathing battle going on around you. It's not just limited to small maps with tight corridors and chokepoints. There's people hiding, there's people sniping, there's people flying, there's people flanking, there's people fighting, there's people defending, there's people attacking, there's people driving, there's people eating crap. There's freedom and choice. This. Is. Battlefield.
Let's say that you're having a bad day playing as infantry in COD, what do you do? You ragequit, cause playing infantry is the only thing you can do and it requires a lot of attention and effort since the game is so fast paced. If you try to take it slow in COD you are screwed. COD only has one speed and that's fast-forward. Battlefield has multiple speeds and you can choose the speed you want and still help your team and have fun. So that bad day you were having in COD as infantry, in BF, you could simply grab a vehicle or maybe take on another role as infantry and slow-down rather than frantically run around and kill people. -
Well said usapatriot! +1!
Nothing compares to Battlefield IMHO. Even Bad Company 2 despite its flaws, or lack of "epicness" is still much more epic than any other military shooter game to date (except for Operation Flashpoint...
).
Personally, I would like to see some elements of the original Operation Flashpoint, Joint Operations, and Battlefield 2 merged into one. Joint Ops maps were humongous! You could drive vehicles on hovercrafts, load up a gunship with not only troops but a jeep or other vehicle too (iirc)! Operation Flashpoint I think pioneered the modern day battlefield game though. So damn hard, but the single player campaign was surely epic. I remember playing it through several times, having fun with it despite dieing a billion times.
But BF3 does look great. I'm excited now. I wasn't before. Looking to shape up rather quickly. Time to pre-order I guess and get in on the beta since it's going to be all Origin and no great Collector's Edition with a pilot helmet or anything.
LOL! QFT! Joystick control in BC2 is broken, I hope they fix it for BF3. It worked fine in BF2. -
They already confirmed NO MOD TOOLS
This really fed me up. And I hope the game has bots. Cause playing this game on a LAN...would be a dream (BUT ONLY WITH BOTS!!!) No bots and no mod tools and won't buy this crap. I will definitely rent it. -

A few more pics from BF3@GamesCom:
And finally found some pictures of the Steelbook:
All I can say... Dear Electronic Arts:
ps: If any1 want's the Steelbook edition (which is limited to Central-Europe), I don't mind helping him/her to acquire it. (If he/she doesn't mind if the box+game is in English, but the manual is Hungarian).
