Source? DICE hasn't released any statement regarding mod tools...
-
-
Bah!
They underestimate the power of the modders! I can understand licensing issues of third party apps they use, but I would bet that modders would gladly pay for a mod app, and I would love to see what users can do. -
Last year, a DICE employee made a huuuuuuuge post on their forums about exactly why mod tools couldn't happen with BFBC2 due to the complexity of the Frostbite engine (and presumably why BF3 is the same way). He went into great detail and reasoned it out very well. It was a lot of technical stuff, but if I recall correctly, he mentioned that a single map takes weeks to render in their studio, which almost certainly has better computers than most modders.

Right. The opportunity cost of creating a mod would probably be much more lucrative if said modders put their time and energy (and money) into creating an indie game with their resources instead.
Then again, that's what the Sourceforge Community does best. I'm sure in a year or two, the consumers will have the hardware as well. If it's anything like BF2, people will be playing it for awhile anyway. -
Well I finally decided to pre-order on Origin, and lo and behold, Battlefield 3 isn't even on their site now!
-
Origin
Anyways, I have no issue with Origin is just that I prefer steam. -
BF3 is still there on the norwegian site, but i noticed they got a summer sale now.
2 daily sales each day.
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit sounds cool but i have to check the reviews first. -
I prefer Steam too, but now that it's clear no matter where you buy, you have to use Origin, I finally decided to buy it, but can't now.
-
NFSHP is pretty sweet. I have it for the 360. The cop missions are fun. The racing is OK, it's pretty much like any other NFS game. The police stuff is where it really shines. My only complaint is that there are some cop missions where you just have to get from one end of the course to the other within the time limit, and you lose time for hitting things. Those are annoying.
-
I hope Origin allows Pre-Purchase downloads, I would be upset if I were to only download it on the day it releases and have to spend half a day waiting. In fact, a retail copy sounds like a great idea, Origin might have a million clients taking up the bandwidth for downloading BF3.
-
I pre-ordered from Origin through the phone service and not only did I manage to get Medal of Honor for free (the BF3 Alpha promotion), but I also got them to send me a physical copy of Battlefield 3 along with the digital download.
-
Well if you order the physical copy don't you get digital download anyhow? And for physical copy don't they ship it release day so you'd have to wait a few days before you got it anyhow?
I wonder if there's going to be any more promos? I'd just like to get in the beta now, and already had all there games they offered for free before anyhow. -
I Pre Ordered just now, how do I get a free game like MoH? I'd really want one. Also anyone here with another promo code for a 20% discount, a friend of mine is begging me for one since I preordered with 20% off coupon. XP
EDIT: Nevermind, went on their chat support and it seems only alpha testers get the benefit. T_T -
No discounts or promos at the moment. I just pre-ordered too, but no discounts. I figured there wouldn't be much else out at this point and wanted to get into the beta before they pull that perk.
-
You had to be in the alpha and pre-order within three days of the alpha ending or something like that. The only games you could choose were Dead Space 2, Mass Effect 2, and Medal of Honor.

I am so psyched, it's always the little details that count and BF3 is FULL of them!

Might wanna post a smaller version of that; it stretches the crap out of lower resolution screens.
-
Plus that was posted oh like 6 pages ago.

In any case it does look phenomenal.
My question is why didn't the wings of that airplane get ripped off when it flew through those support wires of the radio tower ( at about 0:50)?
-
Or maybe the support wires were snapped apart by the wings?
-
I'm going to venture that flying at 250+mph with wings made of thin aluminum running across something as strong as those steel braided wires, the wires win!
-
If you look closely you can see that the pilot flies between the wires. I was wondering the same thing and had to rewatch that scene a couple of times to make sure. Otherwise, man, what can we expect with hitbox detection?

List of what will be in BF3: GameSpy: Gamescom 2011: Everything You'll Find in the Battlefield 3 Multiplayer - Page 1
I think HT will be happy with the jets
-
Good info! Thanks +1
OOh! Shoulder mounted Stinger missile! YAY! -
If you are interested to know BF3 MP server prices, take a look :
Battlefield 3 Game Server Rental | Buy bf3 Server Hosting - Multiplay Gameservers
Really expensive though! I wouldn't buy from multiplay... -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Ouch $1144 for a 64 person server for a year!
http://www.gameservers.com/game_servers/
They will probably be cheaper and I used to have one for L4D2 and it was pretty darn good. -
Nice arsenal of everything, it's going to keep everyone busy for a while.
-
Some reason, I find that price quote for per slot ain't so bad.
-
yeaaayah what ok an 94 is my bebe, so freaking excited for that gun with selective fire, burst and full auto hopefully it will do like the real one and do a burst on the first shot of full auto, and the scope will be AWESOME WITH GRIP TOO.
-
64 person? Please, I play 128 man games with bots and some real pals (LAN) on BF2. Now that, is a real warfare scenario.

Wow. That's a lot of info. I'm really excited about the inclusion about the AH-6J Littlebird which will make a great, zippy little transport to get squads behind enemy lines! Although I am kinda confused about the fighter aircraft included in the game, I thought we would see the F-35 JSF instead of the F-18E, but I guess it makes sense since the F-35 is so delayed and not even in service yet! I'm also curious as to how the weapon attachments, infantry, and vehicle specializations will work, that's bound to be interesting. -
Hmm, that's so strange, I login to Origin to pre-order BF3 and I get charged Canadian 13% tax, lol.
-
We get 25% vat. D;
But still way cheaper than any store bought games. -
Newegg.com - TODAY ONLY! 15% Off All CD/DVD Burners, $349.99 Canon PowerShot S95 Camera...
You can preorder BF3 for only $47.99 if you order from NewEgg with the EMCYTZT688 promocode. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Well some dude from DICE already confirmed the maps in BF3 on the PC will be the largest of any BF game to date, I'm excited!!
-
Dammit, of course the *day after* I finally pre-order. Sigh.
edit: Just cancelled with Origin (they wouldn't price match
) and bought through newegg. +1 for the heads up!
-
Wow... That's cool!
Pretty much what every BF fan wants! Plus comma rose = EPIC!
Now let's wait and see if they also include Commander
-
You think this is as cheap as it will get this year? I figure with Christmas it won't be going on sale at all. So if you want to play it when it comes out this looks like a good deal.
Would you agree? -
I'm just hoping that I get decent Eye Candy on playable FPS on my laptop.
-
I dunno. I don't think you'll see it a whole lot cheaper with pre-order, but who knows? I'll take $47.99 over $59.99 though!
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
rock on. preordered via newegg. no tax, no shipping charge. plenty of win.
-
They *must* have commander.
I have BF2 installed and there's nuclear artillery, you can see the mushroom cloud from far away. Brilliant, so beautiful.
EA don't let me down. -
Just pre-ordered again, $2 cheaper than the last promo code.
While we are at it, does anyone know any cheap pre-order deal for MW3 (Xbox version)?
Also, since your BF3 copy will be tied down to one Origin account, so can we make multiple BF3 profile accounts like before? -
Ah lovely, 3D spotting no longer has the triangle following the player around!
Battlefield 3′s 3D spotting explained - Battlefield 3 -
That seems reasonable and a good compromise.
-
Lol, I have the funniest reason for being happy it comes out in October.
My Sager is basically a portable heater in summer in my room and sometimes I pass playing cuz I know my room will be an oven after short session
But starting sep-oct the temps are much lower, I can open the window for cooling and I can have long sessions, without worry I will fry along with the laptop
-
I need to get a new headset before this comes out.
First BF game that I can actually play online
-
It follows the player around while the spotter can see him. The 3D icon disappears when the target takes cover, but he still appears on the map for a short time. If multiple people spot the enemy from different angles, the 3D icon probably stays as long as one can see him. I'm not sure if it worked that way in the alpha I participated in. It usually was so hectic...
In BC2, I use 3D spotting all the time. I don't see how it's so bad, everyone can use it. -
I'm not sure a Commander is necessary. In BF2, rare were the games where he really had any authority. I wonder how they'll have UAVs and artillery work, though. Maybe an AI commander and an order queue. Or maybe a points system, where you ''Buy'' artillery and UAV calls with teamplay points.
What I'd like is inter-squad voice communication, and 6 players squads instead of 4. -
Yea, I got myself a pair of logitech g35's, they are great!
I dont care what other people say, the virtual 7.1 surround sound works great, gives me real directional awareness
Also, they use a single USB so no bluetooth wireless chat problems , they work great with skype/teamspeak/ventrillo too so if your into your team chat then go for it.
They also have a built in sound card so no in-line box to clutter the place, they use a single usb cable, but have great sound quality.
I too got these for BF3, gotta take advantage of its epic sound.
looking forward to it even more now
Also the spotting idea is a great compromise! and it will hopefully shut those battlefield/pc elitists up.
